Gemini f2p build with supporter DLC implementation

After much consideration we have decided to move Gemini: Binary Conflict to a free to play model. After many years of development effort; learning and exploiting some of the cool features and idiosyncrasies of Unreal Engine, we believe we've created something engaging, colourful, and most importantly fun to play, with unique environments and mechanics.

Unfortunately we haven't had much success with the 'premium' model and seem to be stuck in a vicious cycle of players not being attracted to the game due to lack of other players (although silver lining: we have received a lot of praise for our bots/AI from our small but dedicated community).

Although it would have been nice to see some up-front reward for our efforts, by going F2P we hope to bring some value for those who have supported us so far by expanding the player base, as well as getting Gemini into the hands of as many gamers as possible (especially those on a tight budget).

We of course want to thank and acknowledge all those who have backed us so far by offering an in-game 'supporter' tag as well as access to unlock and use five cosmetic armour sets (unlocked at level 16 for each player class). We will also add this as a 'Supporter DLC' for new players who like the game and also want to support us moving forward.

We are excited to announce the release of three new Gemini maps!

A new subaquatic warpath battleground wp_spelunk! Alongside its free-for-all counterpart fdm_spelunk and of course for good measure a team deathmatch version of the truly magnificent magmastation.

If you are interested in some real combat verticality, do come and check out what spelunk has to offer, not only with its (quite literally) wonderfully immersed visuals, but wild gameplay to match. There's something for everyone to love in this avian underwater jaunt!

Also in this update:
- added a system for dedicated servers to reload the serversettings config file on map change (so certain settings can be changed while server is running)
- workaround for a bot ho/unearthed repair issue
- fixed new lag comp system only working for the first shot of the burst on burster/repulse
- attempted to make client/server shots match up better on the shooting clients side

wp_spelunk (wip) fixes and tweaks including:
* moved corridor crates more towards edge to improve pathing and sight lines
* fixed no droid spawning at forward bases + no super droid spawns
* improved placement / size / team priority for barricades
* fixed small tube steps pathing issues + added floor to tube (to improve path visibility)
* improved locations of and added more collectables
* added blocker volume to centre scaffolding + added some barriers to point peak spots
* fixed no team spawning when final base is being attacked
- tightened impulser rifle spread
- slightly tightened burster rifle spread
- increased chat hide delay since last message from 5 to 8 seconds

wp_spelunk map updates (wip - art pass complete!)
- fixed spectator 'ghost' issue on larger maps (whereby enemies weren't visible in spectator cam if a player died outside of net relevancy range)
- increased net relevancy range for a number of objects / characters, and made players always relevant
- introduced a system to circumvent client movement lag when shooting

- fixed an oversight to the build process regarding EAC / game launching

fixed an issue with cloak knights no longer being able to attack
- setup a cloak 85% radius check on radial damage to help reduce "luck" decloaking
- slinger direct / close range shots below the belt give an additional upward impulse (making it more difficult to lock someone in place)
- fixed a potential crash related to melee lag compensation hitbox system

added a hud based capture bar in warpath to show your teams most relevant point capture progress
- created a client rotation compensation system for melee to help improve the feel of melee attack connections
- implemented a feature to allow admins of a server (or hosts) to execute select cvars via the in-game chatbox using an ! followed by the command i.e. !mp.botquota 10
- added a new cvar goal.defertobot to allow bots to attempt to complete the objective in holdout regardless of if a human player is alive
- slightly increased cone for client hitscan rotation compensation
- slightly reduced the screen footprint and translucency of world based health/capture bars
- lowered the max connections on PvP in-game hosted servers to 10, with a new system to still allow bots to fill up to 16 players (this still allows for full self hosted 8v8 matches, while lowering the risk of network issues from too many clients dedicated servers are unaffected)
- prevented cloak knights from being able to attack whilst in the process of engaging the cloak
- fixed a rare issue where bots could be fixated on attempting to buy a no-longer accessible CP building if they were attempting to buy it as sudden death kicked in

A new free demo for 'Gemini Binary Conflict' is now available! Allowing new players to 'try before they buy'.

The demo features a small selection of maps / modes from the full game, as well as all player classes and base weapons, aiming to show off a 'vertical slice' or flavour of the fun gameplay and features Gemini has to offer.

The passion project of just two people, Gemini has been a labour of love for a number of years. It's now finally ready for public release and we invite those who would enjoy a good scrap on a hostile alien planet to come and check it out!

The game makes good use of colour in its bold visual style as well as some unusual gameplay mechanics to try and make something both aesthetically pleasing and fun to play.




The steam game festival has given us a unique opportunity to garner some interest and support from the community in the run up to a full early access release. Geminis festival demo aims to provide a flavour of the player vs player (PvP) aspect of the game, containing three PvP modes across five unique maps, along with full access to two sidegrades of class weaponry, equipment and customisation. The full version of the game will additionally feature a co-operative mode, and class based xp/leveling/unlock system, with more features, maps, modes, weapons, armour sets and other improvements to come throughout the games time in early access.

We are a small indie development team of just two; a Programmer from the UK and a 3D Artist from the US, we enjoyed some relative popularity with the release of the free steam game/sourcemod Codename CURE back in 2017. Following this we decided to go away and develop a new game/IP from the ground up on UE4.
