Hi everyone! I have some exciting news to share with you that you might have caught during PAX Online! Sky Fleet is officially being published by Freedom Games ( https://freedom.gg ). For those of you who may not know, a game publisher not only provides funding for developing games that they publish, but also takes care of a lot of the business and marketing that comes with releasing a game. That includes managing the store pages and potential future console releases, marketing and advertising the game, helping showcase the game at both digital and live events (like PAX Online!), PR, and a lot more. Really it lets me totally focus on working to make the game the best it can be, and provides me with the resources to do so. Freedom has been an amazing partner to me, only enhancing and supporting my vision. I selected Freedom because they are committed to my vision of the game, and only want to see it reach its full potential. It's been about a month since the last beta test. Here's a summary of all the changes. Thanks to lots of feedback I had a pretty big todo list of things to fix and improve. First I focused on the feedback and bugs then I improved player customization.

IMPROVEMENTS

• New fonts that are more readable.
• The game will let you know if your version is out of date.
• Improved grenades.
• Added UI icons that lead you towards the closest ammo factory and armory. Players had trouble finding ammo factories.
• Less screen shake.
• Smarter auto power cabling.
• Upgrades to buildings are now much better. Upgrade those turrets!
• Buffed farms.
• Right mouse button can be used to select things.
• Game ID is now hidden by default. Better for streamers.
• Confirmation prompt when quitting the game.
• Keyboard shortcuts for building.
• Added some tooltips to help new players.

BUGS

• Fixed the fonts. Many languages had missing characters. All the characters should now be included in the fonts.
• Can no longer select and upgrade the enemy team's buildings.

Plus many more bug fixes and improvements that aren't listed.

BALANCING

Balancing this game is really tough but it should be much better now. In public games it now scales based on the number of players. Also the different difficulties are balanced better by adjusting health and damage instead of only how many drones were being sent.

NEW SHIPS

Two new ships have been added. They can be purchased in the game at the armory. The frigate is a tank and the destroyer is a really fun fast and nimble ship. Also ships now grow in size as you upgrade them.

NEW PASSIVE ABILITIES

In addition to buying main weapons and alt weapons you can now buy passive abilities. My favorite are the side shields shown below.

GRAPHICS AND PERFMORMANCE

Performance should be better and graphics for clouds and islands are improved. Not only do the clouds render faster but now look much better. The next beta test starts this Thursday. See you there!

Thanks to everyone who played during the beta test.

STATS

The weekend started with 6,162 people signed up. According to the Steam page analytics 77% of the visitors were from China and 5% from the US.
When I started letting players in Friday morning I had no idea what to expect. The game had never been tested with more than 7 players and I had no idea how many of the 6,162 would show up. In the end 840 people played and the game peaked at 27 concurrent players.

BUGS

Many bugs were found. Thanks for all the reports. There was one really bad bug that kept crashing the servers. It didn't leave any errors in the logs so it was really hard to track down. I spent most of the weekend trying to figure it out and am glad to say I finally know what the issue is and how to fix it.

FUTURE PLANS

Soon I'll be going through all the feedback and making a huge todo list. Also this week I'm going to look into crowdsourcing the translations. Multiple people reported that the current ones form Google Translate were not great. After the bugs are fixed and the feedback is addressed I'm going to work on the ships and how the upgrades work. Adding more ways to upgrade your ship and maybe even different ships.

THE NEXT BETA TEST

The next beta test will probably be in about a month. In that one I hope to have all the issues addressed and a few new features. Again, thanks for playing! See you again in a month I hope!

The beta test has begun! Everyone who signed up should be in. Please let me know what you think of the game. If you're a Youtuber, Streamer or Press there's no embargo on the game. Please cover it as much as you would like. The North America and Europe servers are doing well but for some reason the Asia server has had a few crashes. I'm looking into it.

Want to try out Sky Fleet? March 19 - 21 will be a free open beta test. Sign up through Steam's playtest feature. We'll be seeing what people think of the game, stress testing the servers and finding bugs. Quite a few people have already signed up. Starting March 19th at 10am PST I'll be slowly letting people in until the servers are full. Hopefully that will include everyone who signed up. If you don't get in this first playtest there should be a few more before the game is released. Thanks for testing! See you in the game.
