Long time no see!
We're approaching four years since the release of Dawn of the Mexica. As a developer, I've been involved in other projects (ahem) and have a few things in the works, but now it feels like the right time to revisit Dawn of the Mexica.
Today, I'm proud to announce the official wiki for Dawn of the Mexica!
This is something I've wanted to do for a long time, but I was also hesitantI didnt want to spoil the fun. I know some players are really hardcore. Some even managed to kill the gods in Mictln, which was totally unexpected! So, I wanted to give you enough time to uncover the secrets of Dawn of the Mexica on your own. However, four years after release, I think it's finally time to share some of this information.
It's been quite a journey for me to review the code and publish this detailed data. Not everything is included yet, and the wiki itself is still missing some information, like items and unique NPCs. However, it does contain an in-depth description of every enemy in the game, every level, how stats and skills work, and consumables such as liquids, herbs, and scrolls. I've always enjoyed keeping things intentionally obscure, as I think it's more fun that way, but this time, I'm offering plenty of clues. Maybe this will reignite the excitement for some players and encourage them to revisit the game.
That said, be careful! The wiki contains major spoilers. If youd rather explore Dawn of the Mexica on your own, I suggest staying away for now!
Otherwise, come to the official wiki for Dawn of the Mexica!
Now, about the future of the gameI'm not sure how to proceed. It's been a long time since the last update, and honestly, I'm a little scared to touch the code. Creating this wiki has also been a way for me to reacquaint myself with it. If I can update the engine and ensure the game is stable, there could be a new version. I've noticed a few things, particularly with the enemies, that Id like to fix. But for now, nothing is decided.
Anyway, enjoy the wiki!
A new deep branch has been added: The tolteca dreamworld of Tlatlauhqui Temictli, the sacred place of dreams that appear in red and bring us to the maternal womb. Some of its features are: - Two levels deep. - 9 new enemy mobs. Meet the mayan aluxes! - 5 new unique enemies (named and with special skills). - 4 new monster spells. Find the library of dreams and find what the tezcatlipoca cultists are looking for in the depths of the tolteca dreamworld! Other changes in this update: - Two uniques added to the Teonanacatl branch. - Kick now spends a small amount of stamina (0.75) - Kick now wakes up NPC victims if they were sleeping. - Bug correction: Player made lava (fire magic) didn't generate heat. - Bug correction: You could carry immobile NPCs to a different level through stairdancing. - Bug correction: Pressing two keys at the same time could break the menus.
Dawn of the Mexica version 1.05 is out! Featuring user defined keybinding for most of the basic actions in the game.
Happy New Year! Back from Christmas holidays, with a few updates and planning some future features like fast-actions and maybe key bindings (though this requires some heavy refactorization). With this update: - Random name generator added to character creation, with a few common male and female mexica names. - Now both stunned and knockout status show in a corner how long they will be active. This will help you strategize better your following actions. - New unique added: Diego de Landa, the Inquisitor ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diego_de_Landa ) - Luck bonus now affects weapon critical failures, so if you have enough luck, it will be less likely that you get the harshest (stunned and knocked out) critical failure consequences. - Change in monster skills, since they were too fast. Internally they're treated like mana-less spells, which means they are too fast. This also will make owls hoot a little less frequently. - Bugfix: A streamer found a bug in which part of the second level wasn't generated when switching to it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnKCwbfAT9Y Its been impossible to replicate the bug, but watching the video closely it must be at 2.37.14 when switching to the Chapultepec level, since it fastly displays Chapultepec (2nd level) then Coatltitln (1st level). The most likely problem is that the two level changes were so fast that this messed up the internal data. Really unlikely but it indeed happened, so a fix was added: Internal code preventing level change overlap.

Changes in this version: * Four new help screens which explain player spells. * New unique character: Yaretzi the Entranced Nahualli. It comes with a new more monster spell. * Heavy optimization on savefiles, so that those from mid-late game become smaller. load/save time in mid-late game has been dramatically decreased * Fix: Christian priest spells "iron nails" and "crown of thorns" now take into account your magic resistance. * Review of the "morgue data" section, aligning the morgue file data so it is easier to read and changing a couple of colors on the ordering. * Increased the amount of lillies in the Chapultepec level. * Adjustments to fix pixel size when resizing the resolution in the in-game menu. * Review of several texts including the skills part in the inline help.
In this update:
* Morguefile browser and reader: This is a new option in the main menu which reads all morguefiles (summaries of each and every character you've played) and lets you order them by date, XP and turns played. It also features a reader for it.
* < and > bugfix: This update fixes the problems with US keyboards and '<' '>' keys.
* F1 (help) ingame icon: This wasn't linked anywhere. You can browse 4 help pages about key bindings, skills and special item codes.
* More uniques: Added a new unique character (feral teenager) and fixed Cincalco so that there's more variety and some more uniques show up. Uniques are usually enemies (though they can be allies) that randomly show up. They aren't guaranteed to appear in every game.
* Clearer Zoom option highlight for high definition screens when you start a game or the tutorial.
* Atlatl message clarifying that you need to wield an atlatl spearthrower to throw atlatl spears when there's spears in the quiver but you have not equipped a spearthrower.
* Easier tutorial: Your character is a little more powerful in the tutorial, so hopefully it doesn't take too long to kill the rats with spells and bow.
* "Game in progress" warning when you try to create a new game but you still haven't finished the previous one.
* Tutorial save bugfix: You could save the game in the tutorial through the bug sending mechanism and thus ruin your character progress. It was very rare since it makes no sense to play the tutorial while there's a real game in course, but still fixed.
* Slight main menu change in which the occasional red buzzing image doesn't conceal menu options.
CHANGELOG v1.01 This version is released so fast to fix a bug. - Fixed a critical bug that happened sometimes when reaching the 2nd map. This is what I get for adding content in the last week before release :( - Meditating now recovers stamina. It uses less time and recovers more stamina the more proficient you are. - Link to Tips & Tricks if you survive less than 500 turns. - Sound added when you're drowning.
