THE HOLIDAY PATCH!

Hi everyone! It's been quite a while, hasn't it? Now that we've announced our next game, I wanted to touch up Frogsong a tiny bit before fully switching gears to the future. There's been some minor fixes and improvements I've been meaning to get to for a bit, so it's nice to finally cross this off my list before going full steam ahead on the next game! So, what's new?

Steam Trading Cards


The game now has Steam trading cards, emotes, and profile backgrounds! This is something I've wanted to do for quite a while, and they were a lot of fun to make. Here's a couple of the backgrounds you can unlock:

As always, trading cards will retroactively be sent out to those who have already played the game.

Support for mouse input


Frogsong finally has support for mouse input! This is something I've been meaning to add for a long time, and revisiting the game meant I had no reason not to. By default menus support mouse controls, and you can bind controls to your mouse buttons. Many people have asked for this, so hopefully this should make the game more comfortable for some people using mouse and keyboard!

Little announcement on the title screen for our next game


Look, we're a small team and getting people to know you're making a new game as an indie dev is hard, okay? We're working on a new game called Stomp and the Sword of Miracles, a metroidvania in a world where not everything wants to kill you! I'm very excited about it and wanted to make sure people know about it, so I included a little link in the corner of Frogsong's title screen. 1.2.8 Update - This should actually fix things

This is ideally going to be the last bug fix patch for Frogsong! More issues kept popping up thanks to the Unity update, so I created a branch of the 1.2.2 build and reimplimented the bug fixes and optimizations I had done for the 1.2.3 update, without changing the Unity version. This seems to have finally fixed everything! Thank you all so much for your patience.

1.2.7 Update Patch Notes

Hey everyone! Weird update today. Turns out after the Nintendo Switch port was finished and exported, Unity suddenly broke a lot of things and swapped stuff around on it's own. It took me a while to realize any of these issues even existed, because they're problems in things I haven't touched in over a year, and none of them existed 3 months ago. If you use the 1.2.2 beta branch, you can see this for yourself! None of these issues exist on the Switch port (thank god, I wouldn't have time to fix them all before launch). Here's what broke and has since been fixed:

  • Fixed the "item collect" icon not displaying properly
  • Fixed the control prompt not displaying the correct icon
  • Fixed the monster book only displaying Skitterbud information
  • Fixed an issue where hovering over the resolution options would display the wrong markers
  • Fixed the "Done" button on the control mapping screen saying "Reset to defaults" for some reason
If you notice any bugs or anything weird in any of the menus, please let me know! I tried to do pretty thorough testing, but there's a chance I missed something.

Back to 1.2.2 for the moment

There's been a couple reports of very serious performance issues caused by the update. With an upcoming influx of players from Steam Autumn Sale today, I didn't want them to start with a potentially buggy, slow version of the game. I'll be investigating these performance issues in the meantime... what kind of game runs worse on PC than it does on Switch???

1.2.3 Update Patch Notes

Hey everyone! Just some bug fixes and optimizations here today.

  • Fixed a bug where the game would lock if you saved and quit while close to an NPC
  • Fixed a typo in a shop description
  • Fixed BeetleBud pathfinding in a certain location
  • Prevented the player from being able to unassign all control mappings for actions, locking the game
  • Slightly changed how rain is rendered to be more performant
  • Removed honeycomb collision to prevent the player from being able to get stuck in it
  • Slightly optimized all enemies
  • Changed how save files are deleted to prevent frame drops when deleting a file
  • Various minor and major optimizations that likely wont be noticeable on PC but were important for getting the game to run smoothly for the upcoming Nintendo Switch port
  • Fixed a bug where Rana could send the player back in time
  • Made level transitions smoother
  • Made some sound effects of final boss attack slightly quieter

1.2.0 Update - Herb Hole and More Dialogue!

Hello everyone! I've just released what is probably the largest update Frogsong has received. It features a lot of new dialogue and character interactions. I'd like to be clear that updates like this will not be common - in fact, this will probably be the only of its kind. These are things that I think add to the experience of the game, and there likely won't be any more major updates in the future. This update also includes a ton of bugfixes and tweaks that will make the game smoother. Let's get to the patch notes: Game Updates:

  • If youve given a worm to the frog in the hole, you can now go in and visit him!
  • Added Rimbal dialogue if youve spoken to Grubby about him.
  • Added additional epilogue dialogue to several NPCs.
Tweaks and Fixes:
  • Fixed an issue where the control mapper did not work on the title screen.
  • Fixed an issue that would occur if players used the forest shortcut, skipping some Rana dialogue. If the player went back to these spots without Rana, the dialogue would still trigger.
  • Fixed an issue where talking to Espo again in Chapter 5 would result in the player getting another Sunblade.
  • Fixed an issue where the epilogue dialogue in the Lost Moth Tavern would softlock the game.
  • Adjusted environment art near the forest shortcut.
  • Fixed an issue where the BeetleBud being out would make the bridge in the tutorial area completely unable to be lowered or raised.
  • Further adjusted the area around a coin pot in the Swamp of Glune
  • Minor dialogue tweaks.
  • Prevented the player from being able to escape their worm-burden.

  • Made it so that the BeetleBud will no longer attack Humming Devils that have not been angered.
  • Changed a dialogue trigger in the Swamp of Glune to make it easier to explore a certain location.
  • Fixed BeetleBud collision issues.
  • Adjusted Elder Bufos position at the start of Chapter 3 to make it easier to see him.
  • Fixed broken pathfinding in a secret shortcut in the Gloaming Grove.
  • Changed the wording of a line of dialogue in Chapter 2 to make some directions more clear.
  • Reworded the Get Steel goal description to make it more clear that the first upgrade doesnt require Salamander Steel.
  • Reworded Barlows dialogue to remind the player that they can only visit him at night.

1.1.1 Update Patch Notes

Hi! Another update is out with some more general fixes and tweaks.

  • Fixed an issue where the BeetleBud was unable to damage a specific boss
  • Further adjusted the BeetleBuds attack range
  • Stopped the BeetleBud from colliding with enemies, which would sometimes result in it pushing enemies directly into the player, among other unwanted interactions
  • Fixed Open Map not being listed in the control remapping menu
  • Moved an enemy that was too close to a shortcut exit, resulting in players bumping into it and taking damage as soon as they entered a level
  • Fixed a weird double sprite glitch affecting the Dreamreader
  • Fixed footstep sounds in a late game city
  • Fixed an environmental art issue in one Meadow level

1.1.0 Update - Map and House Decorating Improvements!

Hi everyone! We just put out an update with some nice quality of life updates. You can now open your map from outside of the pause menu, as well as slow down the house decoration cursor for more precise decorating! Here's the full list of changes below: Game Updates:

  • Added a map you can access from outside of the pause menu. A control prompt will show in the tutorial area, but if youve already passed it, the default input is M on the keyboard or Left Trigger on gamepad
  • Added control markers to the pause menu map
  • Added the ability to slow down the cursor while decorating by holding the attack button to allow for more precision
  • Added control markers to house decorating
  • Adjusted the default speed of the house decoration cursor
  • Adjusted some environmental art around a puzzle in Westshore to try and make the solution more clear
Fixes:
  • Fixed an issue where house decorations would appear to shift positions after leaving your house (In reality they werent shifting positions but in fact getting smaller. Game development is fun!)
  • Fixed the phrasing of one content warning summary
  • Fixed an animation issue with Lord Lithos during a content warning skip

1.0.5 Update Patch Notes

New bugfix update is out! Lots of small but important fixes this time around.

  • Fixed an issue in which the BeetleBuds targeting range was significantly higher than intended, causing it to be able to attack enemies way too far away, sometimes before they were even visible on screen
  • Fixed BeetleBud targeting the bell in Tennsfall for some reason
  • Fixed an issue with the Resume button in the pause menu
  • Fixed an issue with the final bosss intro animation when skipping dialogue with the content warning system
  • Fixed an issue in which a certain player effect during the second phase of the final boss would not be removed upon death
  • Fixed the sound of rain hitting the roof inside Elder Bufos house would continue after it had stopped raining
  • Adjusted the positioning of one bead pot in the Swamp that could cause the beads it drops to be uncollectible when the bead magnetism effect isnt working (the bead magnetism bug is still be fixed, but this will make that pot from being less annoying until then)

Hi guys! Another small patch has arrived, including a fix to a mysterious dialogue bug that had been plaguing me since launch. Here's the patch notes:

  • Fixed a bug in which quitting to the menu and then starting your file again would result in dialogue freezing in specific moments related to Steam achievements
  • Fixed an error in which the Dreamreader could accidentally give you major story spoilers
  • Fixed a weird shadow in one Meadow level

Another update for you all! This fixes some more pressing issues. There's a handful of bugs left to fix, another update will likely be coming out later this week.

  • Fixed a major issue some players would run into involving getting forced out of bounds during the final boss
  • Hopefully mixed a major issue in which the final boss would disappear and never come back, softlocking the game
  • Fixed an issue where the BeetleBud interacted with an aspect of the final boss improperly
  • Fixed the Save and Quit option not working after some chapters
  • Fixed an issue where you could select the BeetleBud while decorating your house which would result in locking the game
  • Fixed being able to go back to a certain endgame location after beating the game
  • Fixed map marker issues outside the Tomb of the Prophets
  • Fixed a collision issue outside of Elder Bufos house
  • Fixed an issue where a couple interaction prompts would display the wrong text

Hey everyone! Thank you so much for all the love you've shown Frogsong in the first day! It seems a few bugs have been encountered, so we're hard at work tracking them all down. We just put out a patch that fixes some of the more pressing issues!

  • Fixed an issue where certain Steam achievements were not unlocking properly
  • Fixed skitterbud plush not being added to chest
  • Fixed the game locking while reading one of the books in the library
  • Fixed a broken camera animation during the final boss
  • Fixed a dialogue typo
  • Fixed a broken dialogue portrait
  • Fixed a certain checkpoint that would leave the player out of bounds when respawning

Demo Update - v1.2.0-beta

Hey there! I just released another update for the Frogsong Beta Demo. It's nothing too major, but it adds some little things that I find quite fun. CHANGELOG:

  • Added gamepad rumble
  • Made player UI animated
  • Hopefully actually fixed the Chapter 11 glitch this time?
  • Temporary fix for pausing while dialogue is open
  • Let Chorus rest a little. It's been a busy month!
  • Fixed some issues with Mac installation
Note - if you're using Mac, in order to properly download this update, you'll have to reinstall the demo. I've fixed some issues with Mac installation that would make any older versions unable to be opened.

FROGSONG is a heartfelt adventure game where it's okay to be small.
