Dear koi farmers,
Todays update improves the koi schooling behavior. Koi now group based on their color, which makes it easier to tell different breeds apart while they're swimming.
These screenshots show the improvement: the koi in the first image use the old schooling algorithm, and exactly the same group of koi swims grouped by color on the second one.
The screenshots were not captured on a PC, but on the upcoming Nintendo Switch version, which will be released this year. We're making good progress, the game runs well, and we're currently working on porting the interface. Stay tuned!
The 'Chill Hoarding' bundle is out now, featuring both Koi Farm and Trash Goblin a cozy shopkeeping game where you collect, clean, upcycle, and sell trinkets to curious customers. That means that all koi farm owners get a nice discount if they buy Trash Goblin, or you can get both at a lower price.
Dear koi farmers, To celebrate the Steam Farming Fest, koi farm is 40% off! The game has also received an update:
Dear koi farmers, Koi Farm has a website now! For now, the website contains links and some information about the game, but we have bigger plans for the future. Stay tuned! https://koifarmgame.com/
Dear koi farmers, I've just pushed a small patch that prevents the shift and control keys from remaining in the "pressed" state when tabbing out of the game. This caused koi to be teleported (shift + click and control + click behavior) unexpectedly when tabbing back to the game window.
Dear koi farmers, By popular request, Koi Farm now has two English language options, one with metric units and another one with imperial units.
Dear koi farmers, I've had several messages of Steam deck owners experiencing problems with touch controls. Sometimes, a region to the right and bottom of the screen can't receive input. While I'm trying to fix the issue, a user on our discord has verified that this problem doesn't occur when running the game in desktop mode. I hope this helps Steam deck users until the game is patched!
Dear koi farmers, A small patch has been published today:
Dear koi farmers, The latest patch turns MSAA (soft edges) on by default, unless it is turned off in the menu. The patch also includes some compatibility fixes.
Dear koi farmers, To celebrate the Steam summer sale, we're hosting a koi breeding challenge in our official Discord server! We're giving away 2 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to the creator of the prettiest fish. For more info, check out the announcements channel in Discord!
Dear koi farmers, The game now has a menu option for toggling MSAA (anti aliasing). This feature was on by default, but it can now be turned off. This makes edges rougher, but the game will run smoother on slower computers.
Dear koi farmers, Koi farm has now been translated into Indonesian. The Indonesian option is accessible from the game menu.
Dear koi farmers, Koi farm has now been translated into Filipino. The Filipino option is accessible from the game menu.
Dear koi farmers, Koi farm has now been translated into Korean. The Korean option is accessible from the game menu.
Dear koi farmers,
To celebrate the Steam winter sale, koi farm gets a special winter update today! During the winter sale, Koi Farm is 30% off, and the koi ponds are covered in snow.
The koi in the banner were created by koi farm players for our winter themed challenge; come meet us in the official Discord server!
Dear koi farmers, Lightning flashes during thunderstorms can now be turned off by a menu setting, since they can be an issue for players with epilepsy. Thunderstorms still occur when flashes are turned off, but there will not be any flashes.
Dear koi farmers,
To celebrate the Halloween sale, koi farm gets a special update today!
The most visible change is the autumn theme that will be active during the Halloween sale:
On top of that, several smaller features have been added to the game:
Dear koi farmers, A small patch has been published today:
Dear koi farmers, A small patch has been published today:
Dear koi farmers, By popular request, I've added more empty pages to the card book. When all challenges have been completed, the book has 30 empty pages available that can be used to store any koi. Time to clean up those crowded ponds!
Dear koi farmers, By popular request, Koi Farm now supports three save slots, so three totally different koi ponds can be created. Existing saves will automatically become pond #1, and ponds #2 and #3 will become available as new save slots. All three ponds will be synchronized by Steam Cloud.
Dear koi farmers, Thanks to feedback and contributions to the source code, I've been able to release another small patch with fixes and improvements:
Dear koi farmers, It's time for another small patch, fixing the broken steam overlay among other things:
Dear koi farmers, Since the source code has been published, several players have already contributed small improvements and more translations. I have included them in this update. The following things have been changed since the last patch:
Dear koi farmers, As of today, the source code of Koi Farm is publicly available on GitHub. The game is written in HTML & JavaScript and it uses WebGL to render. Programmers who are familiar with these technologies should be able to work with the code. The code is provided "as is", but Koi Farm has a lively discord with a dedicated channel for code related questions; please ask them there. For more complex issues, GitHub discussions can be used. The code is distributed under the Apache 2.0 with Commons Clause license. That means that you are free to modify the code as you wish and distribute those modifications, but it is not allowed to sell any portions of the code. Great contributions may be included in the main game through pull requests. I hope the code helps modders to create new content, and I also hope it's interesting to other developers. Besides that, I'm planning on writing a few articles on my blog explaining the used techniques.
Dear Koi Farm players, By popular request, I've created an easy way to add new translations to the game. This public GitHub repository contains all language files that are currently in the game, and anyone can propose new translations there. When new translations are made, I will add them to the game as soon as possible. If you're not familiar with how GitHub works, sending me a translated language file via other means (like twitter or the Koi Farm discord) is also possible, I will make sure it ends up in the repository. Since five new (difficult) color mutations were added last week, I've added several pages to the card book for these colors. They can now be collected.
Dear Koi Farm players, Thank you for playing! Since launch, several updates and patches have been applied already, in part thanks to all the feedback on the discord.
Koi Farm has been released today! After fixing the last bugs and adding a few more colors and patterns, Koi Farm has finally been released! Koi Farm is a game about playing with koi ponds: you can crossbreed koi and combine interesting fish to breed the koi to your liking. Patterns are procedurally generated, an infinite number of them can be explored. Discovering new patterns and colors lets you progress through a set of collecting challenges.
