Surprise! For the past few months, I've been working on a major update for my first game, Home is Where One Starts.... I made this short, exploration title in 2015 to prove to myself I could finish a project, and it honestly did better than I anticipated (I wasn't expecting much, haha). It inspired me to make a new game that was slightly larger called The First Tree, and that release changed my life. I wanted to make sure this small game was up-to-date so future players could play it on their system without any legacy crash problems. There are countless updates, but here are the biggest one:
- 64-bit engine upgrade (helps with compatibility on all systems, especially MacOS)
- Input system totally revamped. All controllers should work.
- Added a run button! Whaaattt??
- Huge graphical overhaul
- Changed the objective of the game due to confusion. Now, it's simply "Find the 8 memories"
- Added a familiar creature from The First Tree (can you find it?)
- Countless bug fixes, performance optimizations, and quality of life improvements
It's been a while! I've been hard at work with The First Tree, but I didn't want to leave my first game in the dust. While making merch, I decided I would love to sell a design from my first game, so here it is, for the hardcore fans out there! Thank you everyone for the support, it means a lot to me!

In case you missed, you can now play The First Tree, a beautiful 3rd-person exploration game about a fox looking for her missing cubs, while at the same time she uncovers a second story about a son reconnecting with his father in Alaska.
Here's a link to the store page. I think you'll find that the game has more in common with Home is Where One Starts... than you might think. ;)

I’m happy to announce that Home is Where One Starts... was nominated for the Emotional Game Awards alongside indie juggernauts like Life is Strange and Ori and the Blind Forest. It didn’t win, but just being nominated was an honor. To celebrate, my game is 80% off for a week. Thanks again for all the support and the sales! I thought it would be fitting with school starting up again to release an update for Home is Where One Starts... (and a big discount to boot). The big updates include Linux 64-bit support, subtitles (which can be easily edited for fan translations), Steam Trading Cards, and a huge variety of small fixes and additions. Please note that the Linux version is still in beta, and you can visit this forum post on potential compatibility issues. Also, if you’re interested in creating a fan translation of the game, visit this post about the subtitle system to learn more. Thanks again for everyone’s support! It’s been a great journey sharing this small story with everyone, and your kind words do not go unnoticed. By the way, I believe there is still an ending no one has discovered yet! I look forward to seeing if you guys figure it out. If something is on your mind, feel free to send me an email at homeiswhereonestarts@gmail.com .
