Hello there! It's been a long time since the last news. Now we want to announce the event that will happen only on October 31.
Achievement
It will be the only day of the year you can get this achievement! Enter the game and, either load the game or start one, you will discover some creatures that will roam every corner. But it won't be so easy to get rid of them, they are very elusive. Good luck with the hunt!
Good day, everyone! Were happy to announce that were releasing today an important update for Alt254. To begin with, the game now supports Mac and Linux! This is something weve been requested many times, and we really wanted to make the game available to as many people as possible. We hope you guys enjoy Alt254! But thats not all: we have called it the Speedrunner Update for a reason. Although it wasnt developed strictly with that goal in mind, the open and minimalistic nature of Alt254, along with its difficulty, suit speedrunners very well. With this in mind we have implemented a new Speedrun Mode, which adds a stopwatch to measure how long it takes you to beat the game and a worldwide leaderboard to compare your performance with other players! How fast can you beat Alt254? Try this new mode and find out -- and don't hesitate to send us your personal bests! On top of all this, weve fixed several technical issues; check the patch notes below to find more details. We hope you enjoy these new features; you can send us your feedback here in the Steam forums or through Twitter. Thanks for playing Alt254!

Hello, everyone!
Its been a while since we last spoke but weve had a good reason: weve been hard at work on a new update to improve some aspects of Alt254s gameplay as well as adding a series of quality-of-life improvements, like map annotations -- check out how cool they look:
Weve been working with one goal in mind: to make the game as accessible as possible, so you can enjoy the minimalistic journey of Alt 254. So, without further ado, heres a list of the new features that you will find in this new update, available tomorrow:
- Map annotations: you can now put marks on the map to signal what you encounter along the way.
- You can check what ground level you are in when the map shows up.
- The UI has been revamped to give you visual cues when there's a secret passage nearby. We don't want to spoil the surprise -- but you'll notice when you see it!
- Combat has received a general overhaul to make it fairer.
- Also, you will be rewarded with HP when you defeat an enemy.
- Enemies now only respawn after you die. They wont do it when you reach a checkpoint.
- A new system to evaluate the players needs has been implemented: now the Oracle shows more coherent and useful clues.
- Some puzzles have been tweaked.
- Several bugs have been fixed.
Hi everyone! We've been working hard this week to bring you some of the promised improvements -- and here you have the result. We've focused on making an easier learning curve for the game, as well as on fixing several last-minute bugs. Here you have the patch notes:
- Help for new players: controls screen at launch and tutorial tooltips.
- Map terrain modified to improve clarity in some puzzles
- Some of the bugs fixed:
Hi everyone! Alt254 is an enigmatic game and figuring out how to beat its many challenges is part of the fun. However, as we told you yesterday, we heard your feedback about the game being a bit overwhelming at first, and we are working in some tooltips to help in the early game. In the meantime, you can check out this nice video by the youtuber The Scarlet Seeker, where he explains some basics of the game. Thanks to the Seeker for his feedback -- we hope you enjoy his video! https://www.youtube.com/embed/uiP7Qzb-BDc
Hi everyone! First of all, thanks for all your support after our release! It's been a very exciting weekend, but as we said on release day, this is but the beginning of the road for us and Alt254. We've read and considered very carefully all the feedback we have received through social media, here in your comments and reviews, etc., and we want you to know that we are already working on some improvements for the game. Here's a quick list with the most important points: Improve map usability: new features such as allowing players' annotations New tooltips at the beginning of the game as a sort of tutorial, to help new players New enemy difficulty levels to improve user experience Some puzzles will be re-designed Bug fixing and balancing issues We will be releasing these fixes within the next days and weeks, so stay tuned -- we'll post the patch notes as soon as they come. Good luck out there, !
Hello, world! We almost cant believe it, but release day is finally here. We are Rename Studio and we are thrilled to finally be able to release to the world our debut title, Alt254. This adventure started a few years ago, when some of the studio members met at a games design masters degree. After a few years of working for other studios, we decided to pursue our dream. We pitched the idea at a grants program here in Spain and got the second-best award, just enough to kickstart Alt254. Its been a very complicated road from when we met at class to this day full of twists, bumps, ups and downs but we made it in the end, and today we get to press (finally!) the Publish button. However, this is, hopefully, just the beginning of the real journey. We plan to add more content to the game, and were even thinking of new lands to explore and new adventures for you to live. As you may already know, the game puts you in command of , a character made by a single pixel that will have to explore an island full of secrets in a journey of self-discovery. Theres one recurrent question we hear every time we pitch our project: why is the main character a single pixel? To answer this we have to go back to the design table. Antonio, one of the team members, asked himself: what makes a game really enjoyable? Its game mechanics? Its art style? Perhaps the narrative? Back in their first years, games were really funny although the art style wasnt exactly sophisticated. We decided we wanted to have a go at that minimal art style. And whats the minimum graphic unit? A pixel. But we didnt want to only have a pixel as the main character. We thought that idea was powerful enough to make a whole game around it. Thats how we decided to show the game in a 26x21 resolution. We had to do some testing to find the perfect resolution, one that was small enough to be a challenge for us but, at the same time, gave players enough space to have a pleasant experience while playing. This is not just an experimental game, we want players to explore its world, uncover its secrets and have fun while doing so! You might say that Alt254 is a minimalistic Zelda. Its no secret that Zelda has been a source of inspiration, as well as the Souls trilogy (yeah, we know, everybody says so but we really love those games). But, unlike Zelda, we believe our game focuses more on exploration, investigating the story and discovering secrets while you experiment with the game mechanics. Believe us, this game is one of a kind. Alt254 is the result of those first design decisions. Now its finally in your hands; we hope that we were successful in exploring these concepts and ideas, but most of all we hope you enjoy the game. If you want to help us, spread the word and leave us your honest review once you play it. Best of luck out there in the world, !

Alt254 - Linux [185.85 M]
Set out on a fascinating minimalistic adventure where you will explore an open world, full of surprises and enigmas, where every location is different and brings its own challenges. The very first puzzle will be to understand the world around you, its rules and mechanics.... but that is just the beginning. In your adventure, you will find broken pieces of your memory -- glimpses of a lost past, like a shattered mirror, its pieces scattered around the world. Maybe when you find them all, you will understand who you are and why you are here.
Alt254 invites you to a never-seen-before take of the action-adventure genre. Taking the key features and conventions of action-adventure games, Alt254 deconstructs one of the key genres in the history of games to express the true core of its key features. Lush landscapes are reduced to one of the smallest resolution ever seen in games, only 21x26 pixels, without losing its sense of wonder. Heart-stopping adventures and terrifying monsters are expressed with a single pixel. Weapons and skills are reduced to the bare minimum: you will need precision, speed and wits to beat enemies and overcome all kinds of hazards.
KEY FEATURES
- A unique adventure in an open world. Explore and discover at your own pace in this non-linear action-adventure and exploration game.
- Minimalistic abstract pixel-art style. You are ■, a nameless character represented by a single pixel. Every other element in the world is represented by a pixel -- the whole world is reduced to its more basic, abstract representation. Your imagination does the rest.
- A journey of mysteries and self-discovery. You wake up in a world that you do not remember and do not understand. Unraveling the mysteries around you and the world is your main task – and overcoming the dangers and challenges of this world, the only way to do it.
- Secrets within secrets. Alt254 presents you with a world full of secrets and mysteries. Some hide behind cryptic messages, buried deep under the earth, or in seemly unreachable places. Others lie at plain sight – but you will have to scan every pixel to find them…
- Fight enemies and monsters in a simple but efficient combat system, as minimalistic as exciting and thrilling.
