Song of Farca @ LudoNarraCon - Q&A Follow-Up
A: Great question! The world of Song of Farca reflects the unstoppable technological progress that we all witness right now, with the IT corporations gathering as much power as some of the governments, but at the same time, you have ordinary citizens such as our hero being able to track down people and hack their private lives with a press of a button.
A: Izy is a private investigator under house arrest. Not a vigilante, basically. She is more like Jessica Jones, not Batman.
A: Thank you, glad you liked it! If we are only talking about other mediums, then that would be: Black Mirror Love, Death & Robots The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo True Detective other thriller/detectives like Se7en and The Silence of the Lambs
A: In some cases (more classic detective ones), we counted on the story and characters. The narrative work there was built from outcome to set. In others, we wanted specific gameplay elements and adjusted things to our needs. As the narration is built according to the classic serial structure (relatively unrelated cases, which are then merged into a single plot), our hands were pretty untied. One of the main initial ideas was to have a hero who solves his problems without leaving her house (way before the current world situation btw). Thus, remote-hacker-detective was born and the world around her was built accordingly.
A: We are absolutely amazed by the works of Alberto Mielgo (Spanish animator, artist, and director). He has a significant impact on the visual of Song of Farca.
A: We've tried to take point-n-click mechanics and implement hacking using familiar gameplay while also being diverse and immersive. We do have mini-games as well as puzzles and other mechanics in store for the full version.
A: All thanks to our genius sound designer! Hopefully, you'll like the atmosphere of the full game even more. LudoNarraCon 2021 is over, but we are still full of excitement. On the last day of the event, the team behind Song of Farca answered players' questions in Discord. If you missed the Q&A session, we are glad to present you with the questions that seemed to us the most interesting. Feel free to ask us questions in the comment section!
Q: So there was a great panel during the event that mentioned how Cyberpunk stories reflect the time and era they're in. How do you feel your game reflects the current times we're living in? What are some of the main issues you wanted to exaggerate and call attention to?
A: Great question! The world of Song of Farca reflects the unstoppable technological progress that we all witness right now, with the IT corporations gathering as much power as some of the governments, but at the same time, you have ordinary citizens such as our hero being able to track down people and hack their private lives with a press of a button.
Q: Is vigilantism and taking justice into your own hands a big theme in this game?
A: Izy is a private investigator under house arrest. Not a vigilante, basically. She is more like Jessica Jones, not Batman.
Q: What were your main inspirations from other mediums?
A: Thank you, glad you liked it! If we are only talking about other mediums, then that would be: Black Mirror Love, Death & Robots The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo True Detective other thriller/detectives like Se7en and The Silence of the Lambs
Q: What was the writing process for the cases like?
A: In some cases (more classic detective ones), we counted on the story and characters. The narrative work there was built from outcome to set. In others, we wanted specific gameplay elements and adjusted things to our needs. As the narration is built according to the classic serial structure (relatively unrelated cases, which are then merged into a single plot), our hands were pretty untied. One of the main initial ideas was to have a hero who solves his problems without leaving her house (way before the current world situation btw). Thus, remote-hacker-detective was born and the world around her was built accordingly.
Q: What were the inspirations for the node like interface and overall graphical style?
A: We are absolutely amazed by the works of Alberto Mielgo (Spanish animator, artist, and director). He has a significant impact on the visual of Song of Farca.
Q: Can you elaborate more about how the hacking mechanics work? It seems quite different than how most games tackle it, which is usually a quick puzzle mini-game.
A: We've tried to take point-n-click mechanics and implement hacking using familiar gameplay while also being diverse and immersive. We do have mini-games as well as puzzles and other mechanics in store for the full version.
Q: How did you nail the sounds and atmosphere so well?
A: All thanks to our genius sound designer! Hopefully, you'll like the atmosphere of the full game even more. Corporations and criminal gangs have carved Farca city up into zones of influence, and there's nothing the corrupt government can do about it.
