The wait is almost over. One week from now Birb Caf will finally be going live on Steam! This news also comes with the last major update for the game demo... ... a complete rebalance of the coffee making stats. Why? While our testers could figure out which stats are required based on dialogue hints, the actual numbers were nearly impossible to figure out without painful trial-and-error, as they were too confusing and arbitrary from order to order. This was also impossible to balance (believe me, we tried), so we did the next best thing: simplify it! The bean now adds a "greater" amount of stat, the sweetener a "lesser" amount, and combined they become an "overwhelming" amount of stat. This is both much more intuitive and provides better feedback to the player as to what they did wrong (or right!) We hope it's worth the wait!
We have received quite a bit more feedback after our Steam Next Fest update, allowing us to further improve our game! Once again, the main subject of the changes is Quality of Life improvements... but also some graphical updates! The change list includes:
Finally, after receiving quite a bit of feedback, we have released our first major update to the game demo! Feedback: the tutorial is still overly-verbose, confusing, and/or difficult. Response: major overhaul of the tutorial, which is now much simpler, cleaner, and more interactive! You can also skip it entirely if you want. Feedback: some of the orders are too difficult Response: added an "outcome list" button to help you out during coffee making. The list persists across playthroughs, so each new game (this includes reloading saves to retry an order) becomes a little easier if you use it! We'll also be sure to appropriately balance the orders in the full game, making it easier to figure out what you need based on dialogue and other hints. Feedback: guestbook and recipe book shouldn't take up the entire screen during coffee making, it should be open on the side. Response: that's exactly what we did! The guestbook and recipe book are open on the right side UI during coffee making, so you can keep that recipe book open while you work. Very handy! There's also many other improvements and bugfixes included. Full list of changes:
