Hello, friends! A couple of weeks ago Elroy and the Aliens got that sweet "VERIFIED" badge for the Steam Deck. Today, weve brought every single improvement that made the full game Steam Deck Verified to our free Demo. The improvements are visual (UI) and only apply for the Steam Deck version of the game. Because Valve only reviews full products, the demo itself wont show the green check-mark, but under the hood its running exactly the same. Hey Friends! Urban, our man responsible for all the visual juiciness in Elroy and the Aliens (a.k.a. Art Director), is sharing a bit of the vision and challenges behind the game's colorful and vibrant cartoony art style. We started searching for inspiration in classics from the '80s and '90s, an era very close to us. From a visual perspective, weve always been in love with LucasArts games, Hanna-Barbera cartoons, Spielberg movies, Disney classics, and so many other creations that trigger that special magical tingling the one you got as a kid when you sat down in the living room on a Saturday morning and started watching your favorite cartoon. Speaking of inspiration, heres some suuuuper early concept art of Elroy! It's taken from The Art of Elroy and the Aliens, a making-of book that we'll release later this year. Urban got his first inspiration for Elroy's look from Disney's short film Paperman. Read more about it in the excerpt below.

The Game's Mission

Why did we start hand-crafting Elroy 11 years ago? We wanted to revive that special feeling that happens only once, when you're a kid. When the eyes are wide open and full of wonder. Hey, friends! It's no secret that we're huge fans of the old-school drawing and animation style from legends like Mr. Chuck Jones, Hanna-Barbera, & Co. They brought the timeless magic of Saturday morning cartoons into our living rooms, making us smile and feel cozy and warm. The vibrant colors, the contrasts, the tiny irregularities of the hand-drawn line and the perfection of it at the same time what a treat! From the start, when we began creating Elroy about 10 years ago, we made a decision. We want both you and ourselves to experience that same feeling of warmth and coziness we had back in the '80s and '90s watching those marvelous hand-drawn cartoons, through Elroy's art as well. There should be no compromise, no cutting corners. Using modern tools, all of the art in Elroy and the Aliens is carefully drawn by hand, ensuring that all the colors, shadows, and lines are just right, exactly where they're supposed to be. So, how do we do it? Here's a little time-lapse of a desert ghost town named Losantos coming to life. And make sure to turn on the sound, too! ;) Until next time, folks! Well, we're extremely proud to announce that we are sailing into the holidays with the game feature, story, puzzle and voice-over COMPLETE! Here is a glimpse behind the scenes featuring our amazing actors recording the voices for Elroy and the Aliens. Featured in this video are 4 of our 20+ actors for Elroy's 60+ characters. Heyo, folks! With engineers having a knack for finding and building solutions to complex problems, they rely on various tools and tactics to complete the task at hand. This one seems to be plug-and-play, though. :) In this sneak peek, we catch a glimpse of Elroy as he navigates his home, picks up a propulsion module, climbs the stairs to his rooftop and, as engineers do, installs it in his DIY rocket. This video is a short example of how we strive to orchestrate the voice, art and sound of Elroy to make the characters and environments of Elroy and the Aliens as lively as the old-school Saturday morning cartoons we used to love as kids .. and still do as mature and responsible old farts.
