Enjoy gameplay upgrades and quality of life fixes during the spooky season and beyond. The main focus this round was removing some pain points for new and experienced players alike. Hopefully, you'll have an all around more exciting and fun time! Summary:
- Better display support for wide and standard screens plus audio fixes.
- Much more engaging asteroids, drone boss, and some heavy enemies.
Ultra Wide Support & Layout Fixes
Removed side bars for full panoramic view and adjusted UI layouts for a consistent look across various display ratios. In the process, the support ship dashboard HUD also got a cleaner layout to avoid overlapping items. Looks better on 16:9, 16:10, and 21:9 ratio displays.
Boss Upgrade
The boss with attack drones now use the attack drones repeatedly throughout the battle, and it is more resilient against the Blackout Device. This might be the best boss fight in the game now! Hopefully, you'll enjoy a more engaging combat experience.
Audio Fixes
All menu sounds are now affected by the Sound FX volume slider, plus the strange bug causing menu sounds during battle was fixed. This annoyance is gone and you have a bit more control over the balance of what you hear.
Asteroid Behavior
To reduce frustrating deaths, asteroids no longer blast apart as aggressively, but are now a more interesting challenge and possible utility. Witness chain reactions as one fragment destroys a neighboring asteroid. Asteroids are now more manageable and fun.
Heavy Enemy Vulnerability
Too ease up the grind, especially for first time players in the first level, those side armored heavy gunships are now prevented from fully closing their impenetrable outer armor. It might still take some skill, but you can deal damage at all times against these oversized tanks. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1662790/REVO/

While testing the Halloween event, something went terribly wrong: for some strange reason, the game would hang on the Loading screen. Fortunately, it was an easy fix and there is even now a feature that will prevent the infinite loading process in favor of just closing the game application to desktop. In the future, it would be nice to display a friendly message to players about the specific issue the game detects, but for now, this is a simple way to avoid trapping you in the game. To summarize, the game failed to load during the Spooktober event because of a missing object reference that snuck in during a recent update, and that bug is now squashed and things are back to normal. Enjoy some Spooky REVO all through October!

REVO v1.0.16 Details
Engine & Post Processing Upgrade
A big engine upgrade led to an overhaul in post processing. Visual polish like neon glows are of nicer quality, but will hopefully feel about the same as before. This is a subtle effect adjustment.
Screen Glitch Effect
Speaking of effects, a long lost visual communication of player damage was a screen glitch. This effect was lost when changing renderers mid production to achieve better dynamic lighting. Newcomers wont realize what theyve been missing, but those who saw the effect loved it and it was sorely missed. Thanks to the generous work of some amazing developers out there in computer land, a port of the old effect was made for the newer renderer. When your player ship takes armor damage, you will see a full screen glitch effect. This will help you better notice the damage and feel the damage more accutely.
Instant Armor Repair
While your energy shield will regenerate on its own given a safe moment to recover, your armor have been hit points that dont grow back. At least not until you dock between levels. This can make a little damage seem very punishing in a high speed, chaotic battle and a lot of damage quite annoying as you tolerate the low health alarm. Now, given the right conditions, your armor will gradually repair on its own during battle. You will be required, similarly to shield regeneration, to find a safe moment and be stocked up on material, which means you must be effective in battle and have the skill to earn your repair. Hopefully, this smooths the lower end of the difficulty ramp and offers more experienced players a new system to learn and leverage. Special thanks to early tester Argent Vulpine for requesting this. Sorry for the delay.
Combat Asset Retention
You primarily need ammo to stay in the fight, so ammo drops are an item your support ship builds and sends to you should you run low. These drops, as well as extra ships, require tech to build. One of the old ways to keep you armed in battle should your support ship run low on tech was to convert an extra ship into an ammo drop. This happened automatically and was too subtle for players to notice, plus it led to many frustrating game overs. This is no longer a function of the support ship. Once you have an extra ship, you keep it. Once you have an ammo drop, you keep it. They only empty as you directly use them. No more mysterious asset conversion will happen in the background. This, of course, means that if you run low on ammo, you will need to learn other survival skills.
Boss Tech & Scoring
Each boss you encounter has a power core you must destroy to defeat them. In fact, some bosses have many power cores. Every boss used to be worth the same point value when you destroyed it, but now each power core is worth its own point value making multi-core bosses more valuable kills. This is an opportunity for higher scores across the board! Furthermore, cores and turrets would only drop ammo, but tech debris is now dropped by some of the destructible boss components. You might discover that this can be useful for your own specific tactical needs, but is generally just one more way to gather a common resource.
Score Adjustment Display
Every time you earn points, an adjustment number displays briefly to inform you of how much you earned. Of course, with multiple kills at once or in quick succession, it has been easy to miss some of the adjustments values. The display will now show the last five changes, making it a bit easier to spot distinct values that happen close together.
Level Select Refinement
When docked between levels, arrows that indicate you can scroll to a previous or next level are now accurately hidden when a level is not available to the left or right. Further, left/right input from a gamepad or keyboard will now change level selection without having to additionally interact with arrow shaped buttons. Its a bit simpler now and hopefully more visually clear, especially when the level info highlights while interactive.
Miniboss/Irongill Adjustment
Those large enemies that have impenetrable side armor and open only to volley an attack have been adjusted slightly to ease combat for inexperienced players. The huge armor panels now open at a slightly different angle and raise up a little higher to better reveal the vulnerable hull underneath. The panels also close more slowly, but open for attack more frequently. This should provide a better chance to for the player to attack them with less of a tedious grind.
New Ship Arrival Notification
When you have an extra ship and take fatal damage, that extra ship zooms into the battle to allow you to continue the fight with virtually no downtime. Unfortunately, this has been a little too subtle for new players who think they have lost and can no longer play. They soon realize they have another ship in play when they are surprised that they are once again under attack. Thanks to a request by streamer Lloyd Berry, there is now an announcement as the extra ship arrives and a visible countdown just before the delivery capsule releases you into combat. While it is quick, it should be enough notice to ready yourself for battle.
Fixed: Errant Milestone Notification
Finally, a bug was fixed where a New Personal Best or 1,000,000 Achieved message would appear as you transition from the title screen menu to being docked just before playing any level. This was simply an oversight during development and these score assessments only happen now after you clear a level. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1662790/REVO/ https://steamcommunity.com/games/1662790/announcements/detail/6019704377364782600

Quick Summary
This is a small update for REVO to improve performance and fix a bug, plus it adds a tiny bit of new content for those who especially enjoy the soundtrack.
- Small performance improvements.
- Fixed personal best score display.
- Full credits now available through main menu.
- Edited and expanded Special Thanks section.
- Special new music added for credits.
- Official soundtrack has a new track!
REVO v1.0.15.1 Details
Smooth Level Clear
Performance at the moment you clear a level used to experience a little speed bump, known as a lag spike, where the game would very noticeably lurch in its activity for a split second. While small, this sort of thing makes the game feel a bit clunky. The end of level lag should now be completely gone as the support ship arrives thanks to some simple code optimizations.
Full Credits Access
Previously, to see the full credits of the game with all of its Special Thanks and such, you had to beat the final boss and watch the ending. You can now access the full credits through the main menu. From the title screen, go to About REVO and select Full Credits.
Special Thanks Revisited
The list of names under the Special Thanks section of the game credits have been slightly reformatted as well as added to. When the game launched, several people were selected for an acknowledgement regarding feedback and support. These people had been helping out for years. Since the games release, new players stepped up in a significant way just like the original wave of feedback and support and earned a place among them.
New Music!
You can enjoy a new entry to the games soundtrack during the ending credits, either by winning the game or through the main menu, or simply by listening to the REVO Soundtrack. It is a piece of music that was written specifically for REVO during its production back in 2018, but it was never put into the game. This song was originally only a sample of an idea and meant to be a starting point for writing other songs. Since the release of the game, it was decided that it would make perfect credits music, but it was not a priority until this game update when the credits got a little attention. This music is finally part of the game as well as the official soundtrack. Please enjoy! https://store.steampowered.com/app/2095690/REVO_Soundtrack/

REVO v1.0.14.1 Enjoy some fixes and an early peek at a new, much requested, feature set.
Easter Calculation
Easter is hard to calculate, but the Cosmic Egg event will now land accurately around the correct date according to western tradition. Dates were hardcoded for 2023, but going forward will be automatically calculated. This update is being made just in time for the next Cosmic Egg event starting March 26th this year.
Gameplay Stats - New!
Many requests have been made for the addition of Steam achievements within REVO. In order to accomplish this, the game first needs to have a system for tracking statistics, otherwise achievements can't be calculated. You will now see a new menu item, "Gameplay Stats", on the title screen as well as the pause screen. These stats will accumulate as you play, but they do not yet save long term. This means you can get a taste for it and help me test it, but neither Stats or Achievements are fully implemented yet.
Paused Game Info
Also on the pause screen is the game's version info. I thought this might be helpful just in case someone is playing and needs to figure out if they're really playing the latest update or want to more quickly report details of a problem discovered without interrupting gameplay in progress. It's likely to show up during let's plays which could be informative. It also adds a fresh pop of color.
No Double Trouble
If you've unlocked Boss Rush mode (good job!), then you may have noticed a silly mistake I made of showing the boss in the foreground doing battle and simultaneously sneaking by in the background. Finally, this is corrected and you will no longer see sneaky doppelganger bosses.

This season is stuffed with space rainbows, neon jelly beans, and a little quirkiness. Enjoy weeks of cosmetic overhauls, a festive Easter egg hunt, and a mind bending one-day challenge. Let's take a look at what to expect on the March event train this year.
When you boot up REVO from March 12 through 17, you can enable the Lucky Stars event. Defend yourself with the super green clover shield, collect all the glittery gold, and unleash rainbows of pain upon your foes.
You'll be able to boot up REVO from March 26 through 31 for the Cosmic Egg event. This one is extra special because it includes an Easter egg hunt and there is a small prize you can keep and use year round if you win. Gotta catch 'em all!
Finally, if you time it perfectly and play on the very day that follows Easter this year, you'll be greeted with an in game event so ridiculously twisted, you might at first think it's impossible. Rest assured, Glitch Day is a grand ol' time of confusing maneuvers and nonsensical chatter.
Which events are for you?
All of these events are worth a try. Lucky Stars is best just for a small visual change, Cosmic Egg is great for adding another layer of fun as well as delightfully refreshing visuals, and Glitch Day is excellent for experienced REVO players but still a goofy time for newcomers. Enjoy the festivities!

Hey, space friends! REVO just got a demo added to the store page. If you don't have a copy of the game already and want to get a taste of it for free, go check that out! I'm also looking for as much feedback as I can get on the demo experience. I want people to have fun with it and to know exactly what to expect for the full game. So please give it a try and leave me some comments wherever you like. Right here is fine. If you own the full game and want to help with demo feedback (which would be amazing!), then just let me know and I'll get you a copy another way. (Or you can create a second Steam account, but that's not really necessary.) https://store.steampowered.com/app/1662790/REVO/

I thought some of you might want to know about recent updates on Friday, Saturday, and today. Some very tiny changes were made each time, mostly to correct for a mistake that blocked in game events from running properly.
- v1.0.10.1 simply updated the name of an event.
- v1.0.10.2 was an emergency workaround to force the April 1st event, Glitch Day, to be active when it was failing to activate on its own.
- v1.0.10.3 appears to correct the date comparison issue and restores normal event behavior.

For 24-hours only, REVO will turn the game on its head for the first of April. You better be ready for anything this Saturday, but dont take it too seriously. The jokes on you if you enable Special Events from the Settings screen, but if you already enjoy a challenge and have a good sense of humor, youre going to be quite amused. In fact, you might even wish for it to stay this way, but at the stroke of midnight, the nonsense will be put to rest.
Livestreams & Laughs
Or if youd like to experience the game vicariously through another poor soul, consider giving one of these long time supporters of REVO a follow and a watch. Theyve expressed interest in bringing REVO back to their stream, possibly this weekend. [table] [tr] [td]

REVO just received a small update that will affect nothing today save for a fix for a minor bug introduced into boss battles via the last update. However, it gets the game ready for Aprils festivities as well as adds a notice on the title screen about upcoming events so you can know when to expect something special to happen in game.

This is no fools gold. REVO just introduced a new in game event. When you boot up from now until the end of March, you can enable the Lucky Stars event. You can fly a green ship, collect sparkly gold coins, and enjoy a magically delicious variation on the most powerful super weapon in the game: the Rainbow Super Beam.
Free Access Playtest
Dont have a copy of REVO but want to see what these in game events are all about? You can try the full game for free until March 20th. To get free access, visit the REVO store page on Steam and click the Request Access button where it says Join the REVO Playtest. In exchange for the free festive fun, please consider sharing your feedback with Cosmic Misfit Studio and report any problems you may have.

REVO has been out for nearly 10 months now! It has received several updates for fixes and improvements as well as some holiday fun. This, however, is the first time a totally new game mode has been added since release.
What it is
Boss Rush is all about battling the biggest, toughest enemies in the game. In the main campaign, you fight through waves of enemies before you encounter any boss, but in this mode you encounter nothing but boss after boss.
How it works
Boss Rush is unlocked when you complete the main campaign. If youve already completed the main campaign in a previous version, then as soon as you boot up this new version of REVO, you will see Play Boss Rush on the title screen. You will still fight, dock, reload, and launch just as before, so its not one endless run without any rest, but each time you start up REVO, the Boss Rush progress is reset and you start with almost no resources and must play all the bosses in order to complete the new campaign. Since this is treated as a separate campaign of new, boss only levels, you earn separate personal best scores for each boss you defeat, which then combine into a total Boss Rush score. Although it is separate from the main campaign, your ship and weapon options do carry over, so anything youve unlocked in the main campaign is available to use when you play the Boss Rush.
Feel the rush
REVOs Boss Rush mode offers a new way to play, focuses entirely on boss battles, packs a lot of action and variety into a small space, and provides a new high score to track your mastery. Plus there is now a better foundation for possible other new modes in the future. Whether youve played it before or not, I hope youll fire up REVO, unlock Boss Rush, and see what its like for yourself. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1662790/REVO/
Coming up
The first anniversary of REVOs release in stores is almost upon us! I plan to publish another update in celebration and hope to include one or two of the features that have been repeatedly requested. Meanwhile, what other game modes or features would you like to see in the next REVO updates? Discuss in the REVO community hub: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1662790/discussions/
[ 2022-06-18 14:52:50 CET ] [ Original post ]
Its the first update of the year! REVO is finally back into post-launch development. Over the past few weeks, several things were fixed, improved, added, and streamlined. It was in need of a six month overhaul, especially after the recent holiday update. Read on for a tour of a few fun changes or just fire it up and enjoy a more refined experience. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1662790/REVO/
Debugged Blast Waves
Have you encounter an enemy blast wave during a boss battle that would expand far too quickly? It may have seemed overly difficult or plain unfair, and it was. This bug snuck in when a new feature was added in the last update, but is now no longer a problem. A few critical and minor bugs were fixed.
New: Tech Dialog
Possibly the most valuable bit of polish applied in this update is a subtle addition of dialog that should heighten the players awareness of the underlying tech resource system. There is still no handholding, but this should offer a new foothold to better understanding.
Weapon Display Rebuild
One of the most exciting bits of polish to work on, however, was the overhaul to the player weapon system graphics and information. It doesnt actually change the gameplay and has nothing to do with any technical improvement, but it was something that has been on the development wishlist to both correct and enhance for a long time. Plus it may help clarify the weapon options for new players.
New: Score Milestones
Speaking of excitement, who doesnt like to celebrate their wins? Well theres a small, new feature that will join you in that. Some of you love pushing your score numbers ever higher and already celebrate common milestones like 500,000 and One Million points. Now the game notices these milestones and ensures you dont miss a single one.
Streamlined Graphics
Virtually every update includes some effort at performance optimization. When a game lags or runs at a low frame rate, it feels very bad and can even skew the intended difficulty. After a major graphics rebuild, I hope many of you will notice a much more stable frame rate throughout every battle, no matter how wild it gets.
Fire Away!
More improvements are planned including additional optimization, so stay tuned. In the meantime, if youve ever struggled with any part of this game in any way, this update is for you. And if the thing you want most hasnt been added or improved, please share your request today in the comments so that maybe your neon space shooter dreams will come true in the next update. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1662790/REVO/

The Space Xmas in-game event is now live and several improvements are included in the latest update.
Space Xmas
REVO just got a holly jolly update! Space Xmas is upon us for a limited time. Enjoy a little festive fun with a holiday twist.
The asteroid field has experienced a deep freeze, as have some of your available weapons, and even someone among the opposition has got into the spirit of the season. But dont expect any less challenge during this celebration. And it only lasts through December, so play it soon to join in!
Feature Update
Not only are there seasonal changes, but some are here to stay year round in the form of gameplay adjustments and small quality of life features.
- Beginners are likely to appreciate a change to the first encounter. Ive provided more opportunity to succeed against the toughest enemy in Level 1. Hopefully this tweak will clarify for new players how combat works.
- Ive also introduced a couple new menu items on the Pause Screen during combat. You can now quickly restart a level. You can also now simply exit a level without suffering a game over, which will allow you to dock and update your weapon and level selections and dive right back in.
- On top of that, the scoring system has been expanded for those who have gained access to the additional game mode. You can now track your personal best for each mode separately.
More improvements are planned, so stay tuned for further updates! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1662790/REVO/

Darkness has fallen upon REVO. It is now haunted with shadows from beyond. Find them all before Halloween night ends. What holiday goes better with looming dark ships and neon glows? Thats why REVO is getting a free update to celebrate the spooky season.
What to expect
The game is the same, but its now sweetened with devilish treats. Can you spot them all? Even those who have finished the game will find new things to discover. But you have to catch the eerie event while it is still live, which means you only have through October 31st to witness the weirdness. (And after midnight still counts!)
Unspooky options
The new feature for live seasonal events is automatically enabled in the latest version of REVO, but for those who prefer their space without spook, the regular game is still playable at any time. Simply opt out of special events in the Settings screen, but this and possible future events might sneak by if you dare to disable, so maybe switch it back on to see what happens later. Note that this special event does not require an internet connection to work.
How to join in the fun
This is a free update for REVO. If you already have a copy, just update it and enjoy. All new copies of the game will include this live event. But the event only lasts for a short time, so beware you dont miss it! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1662790/REVO/
How to update REVO
Steam will make this update for you automatically by default, so simply make sure automatic updates are on within the Steam Client.
How to request help
If youd like some assistance with this update or anything to do with REVO, please make an official request of the developer through Cosmic Misfit Support or start a discussion in the Steam community hub and ask fellow REVO players. Someone is always available and happy to help. Have a blast with the festive fun!

Good news!
If you're one of those trying to run REVO on a Mac or Linux machine and ran into an issue where it hangs up in the intro, I believe you can update the game and give it another go. This time, it should be smooth sailing. Had to make a few adjustments after much research and testing.
How to request help
Should you encounter any problems with the game, please reach out to me via an official support ticket. It makes it much easier to keep up with requests for help and to notify you when issues are resolved. Happy blasting! Cosmic Misfit Drew

REVO is now Steam aware, PlayStation controllers are better supported, and the heroic exploits of community bug hunters has led to new victories. The Steam Beta is still alive and kicking, so join in the fun and help with the pre-launch effort (details below). And wishlist REVO!
Steam Integration
It took some trial and error, but REVO is now able to respond to the Steam Client. The main feature is its ability to automatically pause combat if you pull up the Steam Community Overlay.
When you launch REVO from the Steam Client, title menu and About screen information is now more relevant and will link you to Steam specific items in place of things that would have otherwise taken you out of the Steam ecosystem.
You can get a sneak peek of this Steam integration and help test that it works for every player. If you're not already part of the ongoing beta, go to the REVO store page and use the Request Access button to join the limited time playtest group. While youre at it, please wishlist REVO on Steam to boost its popularity which will help others discover the game. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1662790/REVO/
PlayStation Controllers
In an effort to support the most common controller types, REVO now allows you to specify the icon set within the Settings > Controls menu in game, which currently includes PlayStation and Xbox, as well as keyboard.
You should be able to enjoy PS3, PS4, and PS5 controller support thanks to Steam Input which magically inserts itself between REVO and your gamepad device to help it work like an Xbox/XInput controller. If you experience any big or small problem with your controllers and REVO, be that for personal taste or necessary accessibility, please reach out so I can try to resolve the issue. (Do note that this is not an offer to support Steam Input itself, but I will try to get REVO to play nice with your controller within reason.)
Major Bugs Crushed: 3
Thanks to some solid playtests from a small handful of community members, a couple major bugs that slipped by me were discovered and are now corrected.
More testing is always necessary to prove that it works where fixed and to discover new issues previously undetected. If you like to break stuff, consider joining the bug hunt and become a playtester for REVO. Help make it a better game before launch day arrives, which is coming up fast! Opportunity to try out the game is still available. Visit the REVO store page to Request Access.
