Update v1.4: Specializations

Its been quite a bit! I will never get over how much love people have shown to this small game. To everyone who tried the game, to everyone who recommended the game, to everyone who made a youtube video, to everyone who left a review, to everyone who competed in the rankings for a high score: Thank you so, so very much. This game was made to share my passion for deck builders, card games and silly references. Maybe too many references, but cant deny there is passion behind them. Now, for todays topic, the big update! 1.4 grew from a couple of quality of life fixes to much, much more.

General Changes:


  • Added a new unlockable: Specializations! 51 of them, to be precise. These are perks you can grab before the run even starts, all of them with an upside and a downside, changing how the run goes.
  • Ark points got turned into Gold, a currency you can get in game by defeating bosses! And as the Ark Points before, by getting achievements.
  • All basic outfits are unlocked by default.
  • Added 11 new fighters to the rivals pool.
  • A very basic tutorial was added for new players.
  • Critical projectiles now have a different effect.
  • Reworked the main menu.
  • And the character creator.
  • Several UI changes, actually.
  • Added outlines to characters.

Balance:


  • Buffed The Hunt is on.

Bugfixes:


  • Added a perk that was missing from Magical Girl: Creative Mind.
  • Trial of Wounds no longer allows you to remove wounds when removing cards.
  • Now when a player leaves the name field empty it actually changes to Protagonist.

Update v1.3.1: Projectiles Rework

General Changes:


  • Reworked pretty much all projectiles in the game. For real.
  • The number of unique projectiles went from 59 to 203.

Balance Change:


  • Getting negative HP due to Fire, Poison or Antihero now immediately triggers game over for both the protagonist and the rival.

Bugfixing:


  • Fixed a bug where the Grow perk will give armor as well.
  • Fixed a bug about the Grow, Overpowering and Keikaku perk not triggering due to gaining HP with another perk (Example: Trophy Collector).
  • Capped the amount of fused cards into one during Endless Mode using the Keeper of Secrets backstory. This is because there is an edge case that could end up crashing the game.
  • Updated Breaking the Limit description to better reflect how it works,
  • Fixed negative HP breaking into 2 lines,
  • Some typos.

Update 1.2.1: Card Codex

  • The Codex now has a section to check the Cards in game.
  • Added 3 new Trials: Trial of the Betrayer, Trial of the Underdog and Trial of Reincarnation.

Update 1.1: Magical Girl Archetype!

General Changes:

Update 1.0.1: Paladin Rework

General Changes:


  • Reworked the Paladin Archetype. Now the Avatar State is no longer divided into Red, Green and Blue. Instead is just one that gains abilities
  • The Captain of the Ark now is less random, and should be a greater challenge.
  • Added one new Outfit to unlock: The Survivor
  • Added 5 new Idle Poses to the character creation
  • Added 2 accesories
  • Added 2 faces

Balance:


  • Toying with the Space Continuum: At the start of the fight add 3 Abnormalities to your rival's deck.

  • Blessed Armor: When you're the Avatar, gain twice the armor.

Performance:

  • Added "Ultimate Mode". An alternative to Regular and Endless runs. It's like a regular run but with the trials of Endless Mode, and even more of them than usual. Consider it the Ultimate Challenge. (Note: If you can't find Ultimate Mode it's because it requires at least 10 victories or reaching rank 20 in Endless Mode)
  • Added 15 new Ultimate Achievements!
  • Changed the visuals for Backstories, added feedback if you had already beaten the game with that backstory.
  • Updated the Credits

Balance:


  • Endless Runs now require you to at least beat the game once before unlocking.

Bugfixing:


  • The game no longer skips getting a Perk on the second fight if you reload the game at the wrong time.

UPDATE V0.10.1: Online Leaderboards

General Changes:


  • Added online leaderboards for Endless Mode and Regular Runs! Currently they're not displayed in the game but you can check them over here!
  • The online Leaderboards for Endless Mode track how high your rank is in each Backstory and on Regular Runs you get to compete for the fastest run on the "Speedrun Leaderboard".
  • Now the Endless records are tracked depending on the Backstory instead of globally
  • Added the Paladin and Magical Girl outfits to unlock!
  • Added 9 new Trials to the Endless Mode
  • Added 3 Achievements to Endless Mode

Balance:


  • If you play with the Keeper of Secrets backstory you get harder trials in Endless Mode.
  • "Trial of the Thief" now takes longer to show up

Bugfixes:


  • Solved a bug that made it impossible to continue playing the Endless Mode if you had all the trials (Congrats on the people who managed to get that far!)
  • The "Forbidden Powers" perk was not loaded correctly between games. That is fixed now.
  • "Trial of Unity" description was updated to reflect it's actual effect
  • Changed how perks are displayed to avoid covering the UI if you have way too many of them.

UPDATE v0.10: Endless Mode

Have you ever played Tournament Ark and thought: "I wish I could play more than 20 fights per run"? Well, I have great news for you! Introducing Endless Run, where now you can play for as long as you can survive! The difficulty will keep on rising to insane levels. If you ever wanted to test how far your multi-fusion build can get you, this is the time!

General Changes


  • Added the Endless Run Mode
  • Added 20+ Trials, basically additional challenges that you get during Endless Run
  • Added a system that keeps track of the rank you reach
  • Added Visual Feedback to hovering over options

Balance


  • The effect of the Unleashed perk is now: "Each time you level up a card, level it up once more."

Bug Fixes


  • Rush and Spores are now marked as "Max Level"
  • Boss Perks were removed from the usual Mech Pool
  • Fixed typos

Update 0.9.12: Haste

General Changes


  • Added a new status: Haste! The next move will have as many additional attacks as you have Haste charges. After that you lose all Haste charges.
  • Added a new Universal Card: Rush. This card give you the Haste status.
  • Added a Difficulty rating to each archetype. This is mostly for new players to know how complex is to play each Archetype.
  • Added 2 new Perks for the Mech Archetype: Multitask and Showtime
  • Changed how "Ejecting from a Mech" works. Now it will keep your accumulated MK, while only the Mech getting destroyed will reset it.
  • Spawned cards now spawn in the discard pile instead of the deck (For example Relentless).

Balance Changes


  • Breakthrough: Higher Critical Charge, now if you don't have a Mech gives you +2 Power Charges.
  • Combine Robots: Base Power increased.
  • Flying Module: Less Critical Charge, more Base Power.
  • Get into the Robot: If you're already inside a Mech it advances the MK of your Mech. Now it has a base Power higher than 0.
  • Laser Sword: Loses triple damage on crit. Now if you deal damage with this card it gives you 1 Haste charge.
  • Missile Shower: Rarity reduced, now is more common.
  • Transfer Energy to Shields: Rarity increased, now is more uncommon.
  • Repropose Scrap: Power reduced to 0. Now if you're Outside a Mech it summons a Mech instead.
  • The Ranger now haves only 1 healing potion in his deck.

Bugfixing


  • The default victory and defeat animation no longer plays if you're inside a Mech.
  • The Living Ice card that was removed in the previous patches no longer can randomly show up.

UPDATE 0.9.10: The Archdruid

General Changes


  • Added a new boss to the game: The Archdruid.

Performance


  • Made the projectiles more performant
  • IMPORTANT: Had to increase the size of the main texture for the characters. If you feel the game's performance has dropped significantly, please contact me about it.

Update 0.9.9: Draft System

General Changes


  • Added a Draft System. Now you can draft the initial cards instead of having the default starting deck. (NOTE: This option unlocks after you win the game the first time. There is a toggle during Character Creation)
  • Reworked how DOOM works, now it gets increased at the start of each turn, it can stack, is no longer irresistible using Hidden or resist perks, and it triggers when the DOOM reaches 10 or more, instead of when going to zero.
  • Now you can randomize your Outfit if you're in the Customize Outfit tab, and randomizing the body doesn't overwrite the outfit anymore.

Balance


  • Reduced the number of turns before the fight is over to 20.
  • Chances have been adjusted. Now you will have at least 6 Fusion events per run. That way, Keeper of Secrets is less unreliable, for example.

Bugfixing


  • Fixed a bug where you could get twice the same Boss Perk when exploring the Ark.
  • Reflected attacks with On Dealing Damage effects now apply the effect correctly.
  • Grammar corrections all around.

General Changes


  • Added the backstory: The Ultimate Warrior!
  • Now you can check the cards left in your deck and discard zone by clicking on them.

  • Now there is a crowd in the Arena, unless you're in Potato Mode they cheer and move!

  • Removed the extra step between winning and the reward screen.

UPDATE V0.9.5: Antihero

General Changes


  • Added the "Antihero" backstory! Unlocking by finishing the game with the "Veteran" backstory.
  • Added 2 new Achievements.
  • Changed the look of the cards.
  • Added a visual drawing and discarding system.
  • Consumable cards now visually disintegrate instead of going to the discard zone.
  • Improved text quality of the Deck UI.
  • "Passives" are now called "Perks".
  • Replaced the icon of 5 passives.
  • Changed the logo of the game!
  • Added a small animation to the main menu.

Balance


  • The "Veteran" backstory now gives 2 random passives instead of 1, and 3 random wounds intead of 1.
  • The "Hero" backstory got buffed, now it gives +100HP instead of +50HP.
  • The Body Building event now gives 25HP instead of 10HP
  • Armor events now give 15 armor instead of 10.
  • The "Fire Bomb" card is slightly less powerful, but now is "Unavoidable".

Performance


  • Reduced the render texture scale of the lights, it could help some users to run the game with those on.

Update v0.9.4: More Customization!

Hi everyone! It has been a couple of weeks without updates but I'm getting back to it. Big changes are coming! Also I'm working on adding a new Archetype to the game, with all that implies.

General Changes


  • Added a new way of customizing your characters' outfits, allowing you more options.
  • Now, whenever you defeat a boss 20 times, you unlock their outfits!
  • Added the final "Main Menu" illustration! Now everyone can have a better idea of what the Ark looks like.
  • When fusing "Apply Status" cards now the text with the amount of charges will stack instead of repeating the same lines multiple times.
  • Added a new event to the Pool: Body-Building.
  • Added 3 fighters to the roster.
  • Adjusted the Vs. Screen.

Balance


  • The "Maintenance" passive no longer removes Doom charges, since it tended to be more a detriment than a help.
  • Removed "Icy Protection" and "Profit" from the pool of passives you can get in the "Explore the Ark" event.
  • Fusing 2 cards of the same name will no longer level up the cards. This will be a soft nerf for fusing two "Block" cards, for example.

Bugfixing


  • Fixed abnormalities in how copying the rival's status works (For example, the "We're not so different" card).
  • Fixed a couple of lines of dialogue.
  • Corrected some weirness on how the Audio settings worked.

Performance


  • Improved the performance of fusing cards.
  • The way Cold charges work is not slightly more performant.

  • Fixed a bug where fusing 2 consumable cards would result in the fused card losing the Consumable tag after a fight.
  • Fixed some scenarios where you could have "0" charges of a status effect and still show visually.
  • Fixed a very awkward bug where the new cards created by "Reckless" were hard to select.
  • Added fix to prevent potential crashes when you beat a Boss.
  • Added the missing icon from "Plot Armor".
  • Fixed Guard Break and Breaking Point removing your own armor instead of your rival's.

UPDATE V0.9: The final Archetype Reworked

General Changes


  • Reworked and added art to all the cards in the Edgelord Archetype. With this, all the archetypes are up to date!
  • Added a new card for the Edgelord archetype: "Uncontrollable Power"
  • Replaced all the art for wounds.
  • Added 3 new Wound cards: Aftershock, Back pain and Mortal Blow.
  • Added art for 15 passives.
  • Added feedback on how much hypothetical power a card will have during the clash of the cards with Power altering effects.

Balance Changes


  • All the wound cards now have a base power higher than 0.
  • "Not just a scratch" now hurts the user by 5, in addition to the previous effect.
  • The "I've worst" passive now applies the wound effects on the rival instead of on the user.
  • Changed the starter deck for Edgelord.
  • Wounds are no longer Fusion candidates.
  • The "Cruel" passive was added to the Edgelord's passive pool.
  • Change the rarity of several Edgelord's cards.

Bugfix


  • Fixed bugs related to fusions losing some of their effects under special circumstances.

Update V0.8.17: The Codex

General Changes


  • Added a Codex with all the characters! You unlock the entries by defeating them multiple times (Takes at least one new victory over a rival to show in the menu).
  • Added the corresponding achievements for defeating each rival 20 times.
  • Added a new state "During Clash" that executes right before the clash happens, but after most effects (Except the post-clash ones). They refer almost always to damage modifying effects, allowing different tactics and to have a better feedback on how the card was affected.
  • When there is a "power-shift" during a clash now there is a feedback telling you exactly how much of a difference.
  • "Defensive" cards no longer can get a "Lifesteal", "Decisive" or "Ignore Armor" tag.

Balance


  • "Hacking" lose the "Defensive" tag and some of its base Power. The effect is now post-clash.
  • Adjusted several rarities on the Technomancer Cards.
  • Changed the starting cards for the Technomancer deck.

Bugfix


  • Fixed a significant bug where the card "Relentless" would spawn unusable versions of itself.
  • Music will no longer wait until the character is done talking to play.

Update v0.8.17: The Robot Army

General Changes


  • Reworked the Technomancer archetype, replacing all the placeholder art and rebalancing the cards
  • Created the "Last Resort" tag and add it to some of the cards.
  • Changed the starting deck of Techomancer and some of the rarities
  • Adjusted the general speed of the game
  • Introduced a "Fast Mode" for people who feel the game goes too slow with the new animations. You can activate it in the Options menu!
  • Dodging now literally dodges, the projectile no longer collides if you're doing it
  • Guard animation activates if you hit armor without damaging the character
  • Added a border to the HP UI

Balance


  • One Punch power was slightly reduced, it no longer gives "3 Doom", instead it has the tag "Last Effort"
  • Nuclear Energy gives 1 Poison charge instead of 3 at the start of the fight

Bugfixes


  • Fixed a bug that caused lifesteal to fail introduced during the last update

0.8.16: A whole new system

This one was a long time coming, but I finally manage to redo how the clashing cards works. Ideally this will make much clearer the inner workings of the game with all the extra feedback!

General Changes:


  • Reworked the clash System: Now the cards throw literal projectiles representing the attacks
  • Introduced feedback on when the cards execute their abilities
  • Changed the background and how lights work on it
  • Added new art for the projectile
  • Changed how the cards are displayed in the hand
  • Delayed until the end of dialogues the start of the game so you don't miss the first effects/passives
  • Fixed some typos

Balance Changes:


  • Multi-attacks are intercepted by single attacks, changing their whole dynamic.
  • Fire-Whip effect changed, now instead of applying 2 fire when dealing damage it applies 5 if you have a Critical Attack.
  • Wand of fire Power was slightly reduced

Optimization


  • Introduced a "Potato Mode" for those having performance problems, you can find it on the Options Menu at the start
  • Several changes implemented to cut the number of drawcalls

Bugfixing:


  • High negative numbers won't break the text anymore
  • Flurry passive no longer will display that a card can attack multiple times if the attack power is 0

General Changes:

General Changes:

UPDATE V0.8.10: Reloaded

General Changes


  • Added 15 new Achievements
  • Changed the unlock condition of Keeper of Secrets from 5 fusions to 20
  • The "Embrace Change" event now gives a pop up explaining which cards turn into which
  • Made impossible to Upgrade 6 cards that gained nothing out of being Upgraded
  • After triggering a "one time use" passive the icon is now transparent
  • Added a Martial Arts passive: "Mastering the Basics"
  • Now conversations won't give you Passives with no utility at all for your archetype

Balance Changes


  • Second Life boss passive has been nerfed, now it only heals half the boss HP, removing all status charges in the process
  • On the Run also has been nerfed, now it gives 1 Power charge per turn intead of 2, and still gives 1 Hidden

UPDATE 0.8.8: Rise of the Mutants

General Changes:


  • Added the "Mutant" backstory!
  • Added a new achievement for unlocking the Mutant Backstory.
  • Now each of the reward cards after a fight can be of a different level.
  • Added images for Andrea's objects of power (Sword, Bow and Shield).
  • Updated the art for Mens Sana.
  • Updated the icon for the "All In" passive.
  • Updated the Samurai art to fix some visual defects.

Balance Changes:


  • Mysterious Past now gives 5 random high rarity/level cards instead of one.
  • Black Market effect has change, now paying the price only gives 1 immortality charge, but has higher power.
  • Ernesto passive order changed to make early runs easier.
  • Removed all Power from Mens Sana.

Bugfixing:


  • Fixed several inconsistencies on the level of the cards, in particular starting a fresh run with level up cards.

UPDATE 0.8.7: Requiem for the Samurai

It was time for the Samurai to get a bit of a rework, in this patch we have:

  • Reworked the Samurai's cards
  • Added new illustration for said cards
  • Added 3 new passive abilities for the Samurai Archetype
  • Changed some factors of the formula when you fuse cards, such as how much critical charge you get
  • Added missing passive ability icons
  • Changed the cursor config to allow it to leave the game, useful for multiple monitors or when not in fullscreen

UPDATE 0.8.6: A long journey ahead

Hi everyone! A week as pass since Tournament Ark was published on Steam, quite an exciting one for me! This is the first of many, many updates in a mostly weekly basis to bring the game to the so call "1.0". Without any more delays: What's different now?

Balance Changes:


  • Nerfed "Perpetual Interdimensional Engine" from giving 3 Power per turn to 2
  • Reduced the max amount of bosses' cards
  • Changed the logic on how healing events show up during the run

Optimization


  • Reduced 21% the file size of the game and memory use!

General Changes:


  • Added options in-game to change "fullscreen" or change the resolution
  • "Escape" now not only opens but closes the pause menu
  • Changed the typography of the basic card's name
  • Changed the blurry text on the fighters display
  • Fixed some typos
  • Minor visual fixes
  • Added the version number to the hub

Bugfixing:


  • Fixed a scenario where "Astral Projection" would also remove the positive status instead of just the negative ones
  • Fixed the "Getting 0 bleed charges" from Blood Link
