We're constantly striving to elevate the visual prowess of Projekt Z: Beyond Order. Despite the misconception that Unity games lack visual appeal, we're determined to showcase that it's not about the engine but rather the expertise of those wielding it. Today, we're excited to unveil some screenshots highlighting the lighting and rendering enhancements we've implemented.
Our dedicated weapon and animation department has been hard at work, making substantial progress in broadening our array of weaponry. Through meticulous attention to detail and creative ingenuity, they've been diligently crafting new additions to enhance your gaming experience. Today, we're delighted to provide you with an exclusive sneak peek into the exciting weapons they're currently bringing to life.
Introducing Free-Roam mode, a dynamic segment of the game where players can scavenge for valuable resources and items outside of specific story missions. It's our Extraction Game Mode, but in a cooperative-only setting, offering unparalleled freedom and camaraderie. Upon completing a Story Mission, almost every map becomes accessible in this mode. Enter The Free-Roam Here's how it works: Upon entering a Free-Roam Mission, players are given a generous 15-minute window to explore and gather loot. But beware, if the timer runs out, all loot brought into the mission is forfeited, marking a lost opportunity.
Extract To successfully extract, players must reach out via radio to the "Hideout" to get a pickup zone assigned to them, accompanied by yet another timer. Failure to reach the designated pickup point in time results in losing all accumulated loot. Upon arrival, players must signal their readiness by shooting a flare into the sky, initiating a thrilling defense sequence as they await extraction by the Hideout Team.
In Free-Roam mode, every decision counts. Will you risk it all for precious loot, or play it safe and ensure a successful extraction? The choice is yours, but remember, in the world of Projekt Z: Beyond Order, fortune favors the bold.
Since we announced Projekt Z: Beyond Order, we have always talked about the characters and their abilities but never showed them off in one of our Devlogs. This will Change now. In today's development blog, we want to show you two characters, Alina and Gustav, who both play some big roles in the game. Alina (Medic) Alina Burov, a 25-year-old Soviet medic and sniper born in 1917, embodies resilience amidst war. Armed with a Medic Gun and syringes, she takes on the healer role, mending wounds and curing status effects. With her "Medic Scream" ability, she swiftly assesses her team's condition, ensuring seamless coordination. As a sniper, her sharp eye defends her comrades against the zombie horde, reflecting her unwavering dedication to her homeland and comrades.

- Prototype Gustloff Model 206
This is a rare example of a WWII German Prototype sheet metal semi-automatic rifle that was manufactured by Gustloff-Werke in Weimar. This design closely follows the various other late war German designed rifles and pistols that were manufactured using sheet metal stampings and minimal machined parts.

- Alina's main ability is her versatile Medic Gun, which can heal teammates and cure various status effects such as "Break," "Wound," "Burned," and more. This unique tool makes her the perfect healer for the team, ensuring that everyone can stay in the fight longer. The Medic Gun can be used at range, allowing Alina to provide critical support from a safe distance, even in the midst of chaotic battles.
- Alina's expertise extends beyond just healing her teammates; she's equipped with medic syringes that allow her to tend to her own wounds to a certain degree. In the heat of battle, when she finds herself in a tight spot, Alina can administer these syringes to patch herself up, granting her the ability to sustain her own health and stay in the fight longer.
- To minimize UI distractions during gameplay, Alina possesses the unique ability called "Medic Scream." With a button press, she can assess the health status and any inflicted conditions of her teammates. This intuitive action eliminates the need for excessive HUD elements, allowing Alina to swiftly gather crucial information about her team's well-being in the heat of battle.
Stationary Madsen Machine Gun
- Gustav's main ability is the Stationary Madsen Machine Gun. This powerful, belt-fed weapon excels at holding positions and providing sustained fire support, making it perfect for covering your co-op mates. With impressive accuracy and stopping power, it creates a deadly zone of suppression. Its sturdy tripod ensures minimal recoil, allowing Gustav to maintain a steady stream of bullets, making the Madsen an indispensable asset in battle.
- Gustav's resilience extends beyond his formidable firepower. While manning the Stationary Madsen Machine Gun, he possesses a unique Self-heal ability, allowing him to regenerate health gradually over time. This self-sustaining capability ensures that Gustav can withstand sustained enemy fire while holding down strategic positions for extended periods.

- Projekt Z, for me, is a game that clearly deviates from historical events and explores technological what-ifs such as the Nazi's Wunderwaffen, yet is mostly grounded. So, a lot of my work involves researching how they built their machinery and structures back then and applying these ideas to the work of our narrative designers. We often share these references with our amazing colleagues from the 3D Team and go on to discuss matters such as authentic color schemes and methods of construction at the time. Ultimately, we aim to create an experience that is not too removed from reality so that the fictional elements that we do have, such as the Zombies, gain a more gritty and dramatic nature through it.

What is Projekt Z?
Projekt Z is a free-to-play first-person shooter set in a WW2 Zombie scenario on a secret German island. The game focuses around the "Projekt Z", a project run by the Nazis to turn Zombies, which have been discovered on the island earlier, into weapons to turn the war around in Nazi Germany's favor. On the Island, you will discover various secret Nazi projects related and unrelated to "Projekt Z".
The core gameplay of Projekt Z is explained easily:
You have the HUB, you can craft weapons, ammo, and other consumables here. You will also be able to build things inside the hub (similar to Fallout 4's settlement building). From the hub, you start missions. Missions belong to a story arch and can influence each other, depending on the order in which you do them. An example: a mission where you clear the island's sewer system will lead to different zombie types appearing in other missions that otherwise were trapped in the sewer system.
Story arcs have a beginning and an end and shall not be stretched indefinitely. After all, the best stories are those that were planned with a definitive end in mind.
During missions, you can find items, building materials (for the hub) and recruit personal for your hub.
Missions can be repeated for gathering more materials/loot.
