Greetings Capitalists. 2024 is now here and so is a new update for CAPITALISM The action board game for one player. Today you get five new minigames, a couple of extra features and I've even fixed some bugs for you. Let's have a look at what's new:
Money King
In this arcade game, inspired by the greats, you have to reach the top of the tower and avoid barrels along the way. The main challenge is that the slopes are slippery so you will slide down them just like the barrels. Plus you must jump on the head of the greedy capitalist at the top in order to reach the platform with the prize.
Balancing Act
Also using the new construction site theme, this minigame is all about the new unicycle powerup. The movement physics are completely different here and realistic to an actual unicycle, meaning that absolute precision is required to navigate this platforming challenge.
Putting out Fires
Featuring another new item, I really am spoiling you lot today. This minigame includes the brand new water pistol, which must be used to put out the fire and reveal a prize. But watch out for the more deadly fire balls that fill the screen, the water pistol is no match for these.
Spinning Stones
A riff on the existing Stepping Stones minigame but with a revised layout and spinning asteroids that you must jump between.
Orbit
Making use of the previously introduced High Jump powerup, in this minigame you must fall dangerously low to grab a prize from around the orbiting asteroid. Survival is then a case of using the powerup to boost back to safety before you are crushed by the rock.
So what else is new?
You can now delete cards by right clicking on them from your deck, which is a handy time-saving alternative over dragging them to the bin. If you're using a controller it's also possible to bring up the right click prompt by pressing LB when hovering over a card. Plus you get the following bug fixes:
- Fixed some issues with minigame sound effects playing when the game was paused
- Fixed a couple of issues with the Prize Drop icon
- Fixed some issues switching between fullscreen and windowed mode
- Fixed an issue where the mouse would display twice on Mac if using the new fullscreen 'Game Mode'
- Minor text and geometry changes
- Fixed an issue with the character creator fill button not working properly with a controller
- Engine upgrade
One more thing...
This is advanced notice that I'm going to be removing the demo for CAPITALISM The action board game from Steam in a few weeks. Once I've done this, the demo will not be playable even if it's in your Seam library. So if you'd like to 'try before you buy', I'd recommend doing this sooner rather than later. The reason why I'm removing the demo is twofold: 1) I actually thought I'd done this already. It's been active for over a year longer than I intended. 2) The demo was made for Steam Next Fest and therefore it was a pre-release build of the game. Not only has the game now been released, but it's since received several content updates and patches and as such the demo isn't an up-to-date showcase of the game in its current state.

Greetings Capitalists. Summer is now here and so a new update for CAPITALISM The action board game for one player. The summer holiday update adds in 5x new summer/ water themed mini-games plus an extra non-summer mini-game too. So you get the following six new mini-games in total:
Wetsuit
Wetsuit introduces new underwater physics as well as a new 'Wetsuit' powerup. Underwater you can jump higher and with the power up you can swim by repeatedly pressing the jump button. Swim through the maze and avoid the obstacles to collect rewards.
Prize Drop
In Prize Drop you must use the wetsuit to ascent the water tower and then try and collect a prize on your way back down.
Water Park
Waterpark is an underwater platforming challenge where you must avoid dangerous spinning obstacles whilst attempting to collect prizes.
Lido
A small 2D platforming level where you must jump off a tall tower and then slide around on a float collecting prizes. Be careful not to fall off.
Beach Party
Okay, so Beach Party technically used to be the second half of the Lighthouse mini-game. But reviewing this it felt like that level was far too long this part was difficult to get to. Because of this I've moved it into a separate mini-game.
Bonus: Asteroids
I wanted to do 5 new mini-games, and Beach Party felt like a bit of a cop-out, you also get the bonus mini-game Asteroids, where you have to collect money whilst avoiding the spinning rocks. --- This update also includes a set of 5 achievements for you to try and unlock when playing CAPITALISM.

- Wait cards can now be stacked, drag one onto another on the board and wait for longer!
- The clear grid button now works properly in the character creator

Greeting Capitalists, how are you? An update arrives to CAPITALISM The action board game to bring you Capital Quest, a game inside a game. Or something like that, here's what's new.
Capital Quest
Really this is just one of three new mini-games included in this update, but it's the only one with a cool logo. Capital Quest is inspired by Lion Quest, the first game I released on Steam. As well as the mini-game I've adjusted the swatch hues slightly (and I am sorry if this has ruined any fabulous creations you've made to date) so that the character creator can now be used to make ALL 10 of the Lion Quest characters. That even includes Jimmy the Sloth, who didn't technically appear in the first Lion Quest game. Anyway, I'm sure you can't be bothered to draw all of these characters out yourself (I did and it took literally ages) so I've gone to the liberty of providing a full set of codes that you just paste into the character creator.
Jethro the Lion:

Jefferson the Fox:

Copy the code and then in-game go FILE > CH CREATOR and then EDIT > PASTE.
I haven't put all the codes in this post as there's simply too many, but you can get all 10 here in the forum and then play CAPITALISM The action board game as your favourite animal.
Orange Cube / Gauntlet II
These are the other two new mini-games you can look forward to playing. Gauntlet II even includes a new high-jump powerup that lets you fly into the air
New cursor
The game now has a custom cursor which is very exciting news because it means FULL CONTROLLER SUPPORT. You can continue to play the game as before with the mouse but the selector also responds to controller input. This also means the game is now very playable on the Steam Deck.
Multiplier indicator
Finally. Outlets now display a badge to show if the x1.5 or x2 multiplier has been applied to them.
Miscellaneous stuff
- The icon indicating which tool is currently selected in the character creator has been made bigger
- Mini-games now support d-pad input
- The player and AI speed has been adjusted for Ms Tax Man to make it a little more fun and a little less horrible
- The back button no longer resets the player in the side scrolling mini-games as this 'feature' didn't really make sense
- Engine upgrade
And the bug fixes
- You can no longer retire before starting a game (and in doing so break things)
- Opening the leaderboard and then restarting from the file menu used to cause a crash and it doesn't any more
- The music playlist didn't previously change song on the character selector screen and this has now been fixed
- I've fixed some layer issues with the toolbar
- You can no longer apply a multiplier card to a non-property tile on the board
- A couple of random problems with the Lighthouse mini-game have been sorted
- The mini-game card could actually be dragged out of its slot on the board, but not any more
[ 2023-06-23 14:35:25 CET ] [ Original post ]
Hello capitalists, it's Friday and I've got an update for you. Here's what's new in CAPITALISM 1.3.3:
Early Retirement
You can now select the 'Retire' option from the File menu and end the game early. This lets you save your high score without having to wait until you go bankrupt. I've even heard reports of some players deliberately going bankrupt just to ensure their high score was logged, so hopefully this will remove the need to do this.
Localised Currency Denominations
Up until now everything just displayed in s but I figured it would be more fun for everyone if they were using their own currency denominations. So the game now works out what country you're in and automatically displays the local denomination ( $ etc.) as appropriate. It can't work out absolutely every country ever, but I've looked at the sale data for the game and ensured that most of the places where the game is being played are covered. Oh, and incase you're wondering, there's no currency conversion in place here beyond just showing different denomination symbols. So in terms of high-scores, outlet payouts etc. 100 equals $100 or 100 etc.
Custom character now persists through sessions
That's right, if you customise your character then any changes you make will still be there if you reset/ restart/ replay the game. If for some reason you end up make a real mess of the character then you can still reset to the original design by going 'File > Reset' from the menu when you're in the character creator.

A small patch! Bug fixes for the following:
- Fixed an issue with flashing text flashing on the wrong item
- Fixed issue returning from leaderboard to the game over screen
- Hospital bill now consistently places into top right hand corner of the board
[ 2022-09-17 18:49:27 CET ] [ Original post ]
Hello capitalists. Today is Monday, and CAPITALISM version 1.31 is now live. It includes the following bug fixes:
- Wait card can no longer be swapped out when the countdown is running this prevents an issue where the card could be removed, preventing the wait sequence from ever completing
- Right-click to pause the player character has been removed okay so this one is kind of embarrassing. Right-clicking to stop the character was meant to be a debug/ development feature and I didn't quite realise it was still active in the standard version of the game. I'm sorry if you were making use of this feature and are sad to see it go, but it's being removed for two reasons. 1) Part of the challenge of the game is meant to come from arranging the board in real-time. This is why the board is purposefully hidden when you pause the game. 2) This feature was never tested for release, I'm sure there's a whole bunch of ways in which it could be used to break the game.
- The the area of the trampoline that the player can bounce on has been extended. This prevents an issue where you'd land near the edge of the trampoline and not actually bounce.
- Flashing hospital text. Not necessarily a bug, but it wasn't very clear how hospital bills work in the game. During the minigames or the customer showdown, if your character gets smashed to bits then a hospital payment is added to your list of bills. This sounds straight forward enough, but it's worth noting that you can fail some minigames without incurring a bill for example in shoot through hoops the minigame always ends at the point where you fall off the bottom of the screen. You never get a bill in this game, it's just a case of trying to grab a prize. Anyway, the hospital bill text now flashes at the point of being added, so it's much more clear when this happens and highlights it as a penalty for situations such as when the customer destroys you in the showdown.

Greetings capitalists. Today a new update for 'CAPITALISM The action board game for one player' arrives. From the player feedback I've received since the game launched, the most requested feature has been more minigames! So here we go capitalists, you've asked for it and I'm here to provide. Let's have a look at the new minigames you're getting...
Portal
In Portal you must time your jump perfectly to fly through the portal and collect a prize. You can play it safe and aim for one of the wider shoots, or try and go right down the middle for a greater reward.
Gauntlet
This minigame introduces a new power-up mechanic. Once you collect the spinning double jump you can jump in the air twice, essential for navigating this tricky tower with spinning sticks of death.
The Pirate Bay
This is a large 2D platforming level, not dissimilar to the Lighthouse minigame, but with a pirate theme. Its based off a level in Lion Quest Infinity, but as that game is in 3D it was fun to re-work some of those ideas from a 2D viewpoint. Plus as piracy is the enemy of capitalism it felt like a thematic fit. Watch out for the bandits!
Portal 2
The sequel to Portal, naturally it's called Portal 2. This minigame is more of a puzzle, although it requires some precision too. You must shoot yourself back and forth through the portal to build up the momentum to collect the prize. And yes, it is possible to complete this one, if you don't get it first time then you've just not worked out the trick yet.
Firing Line
This is a riff on the existing Bandits minigame. Here there's a row of bandits all lined up to take their shot at you. Fortunately you've got your gun too, so you can focus on shooting back or just trying to dodge their projectiles all together. Aside from the minigames this update includes a few minor changes and bug fixes, but nothing significant.

Greetings Capitalists. Today we've got a quick update to 'CAPITALISM The action board game for one player' that adds in a leaderboard. This keeps track of the top 100 scores, with your high-score being the largest amount of money you had at the height of your career. You can view the leaderboard either from the game over screen, or from the File menu at the top. Now you can who really controls the free market! Do you have what it takes to become the richest capitalist?

Greetings capitalists. It's been exactly two days since the release of 'CAPITALISM The action board game for one player' and here is a very quick patch to address some issues that have been brought to my attention. Changes are as follows:
- Payment modifiers can no longer stack each outlet now can only receive a maximum of one modified (this prevents an issue with you pesky Capitalists placing all modified onto the same outlet and earning money too easily)
- Payment modified can no longer be placed onto a blank space on the board
- Pause option has been added to the File menu
- Slightly revised intro text for additional clarity on how outlet cards work
