Build 1.2.0 is now live!

Hey there!

Para Bellum - Hold the Line just had a new small update, version 1.2.0!

I've received some feedback from the players that the beginning of the campaign is too difficult and it turns new players off the game. I wanted to address this concern by doing a couple of small changes to the balancing of the first couple of campaign missions.

The early campaign experience should be more manageable now to new players!

That's all for now! Thanks and have a nice summer everyone :)

Aftermath Update!

Greetings, commanders!

After a long while, I've introduced a new update to Para Bellum - Hold the Line titled Aftermath Update!

[previewyoutube=1XPgcQwRIx4;leftthumb][/previewyoutube]

This update aims to improve the aftermath experience of the battles you fight. It comes with two new main features:

- Destroyable trees - Mortar Strikes, Missiles, Grenades etc. can now damage and destroy trees. This does not only improve the feel and feedback of your battles, but also changes the battlefield on tactical level as the cover your or the enemy's Units could use, is reduced.

- Blood and Gore - Explosions leave behind bloodied corpses that might lose body parts. The amount of bodies on the screen is adjustable in the settings menu between 10 and 100 in order to give you the best control between performance and feel.

Full changelog below:

NEW
- Destroyable trees

- Blood and Gore

CHANGES

- Dead bodies not removed by time, but per amount, customizable in settings menu

FIXES
- Bix explosion damage range fix

Future update

How's it going, commanders!

I'm taking a little deviation from the regular update schedule to keep you in the loop on what's going on with the game and its Early Access status and what the foreseeable future will hold for the game and for Laukaus Games as a whole.

Before going in to anything else, I want to thank each and every one of you, who have bought and played the game or added it to your wishlist for future purchase. Specifically, I want to thank all of you, who have provided feedback and reported issues you've found within the game. I also want to specifically thank those of you, who have recommended the game to someone you know and might be interested or made videos or other content off of it. We and the game wouldn't be here if it weren't for each and every one of yours support! It really means the world to me.

As some of you may remember, I made my first devlog video of Para Bellum - Hold the Line at the end of August titled "Good and Bad News". I'm gonna share the video here, if you're up to for a little trip down the memory lane and want to see what the game looked like in its very early state back then. Back then I had just lost my job and started working on Para Bellum - Hold the Line full time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hb3l8GZVowA

Why I'm sharing this now, is because it's kind of relevant to my current situation. As it turns out, I have now managed to find myself a new full time job and I will be starting at the beginning of the new year 2022. What this unfortunately means, is that I won't be able to work on this game full time anymore and game development in general, will take a back seat for the time being. Once I have figured out my schedule and new rhythm of life at the new job, I'm hopeful that I will be able to squeeze in some time for my own projects, but it might take a while and nevertheless, the development velocity is going to go down in the near future.

That being the situation, I feel like the priority right now, is to get the game out of Early Access. I don't want to rush things obviously, but I'm gonna start taking action towards the full launch of the game soon. I still have a couple of ideas that I want to try out and might add to the game and one scheduled update coming soon - the one with the new Paratrooper Units. I won't be disclosing more information about potential updates at this time since it's so early that I don't want to make promises that I might or might not keep.

In addition to getting the game to it's 1.0 release state, I need to work on a launch trailer and press releases for the media and influencers in the hopes that someone will be covering my game when it's launching. That is going to take some time and that means that actual game development time will be reduced.

After Early Access is over and the game is fully released, active development of the game will be on hold at least for a while. I'll try my best to fix any issues should any arise, but that's all I can promise. I hope to continue developing the game some day in the future provided that I have the time, resources and incentive to do so, but all of that is something that only time will tell.

Eventually, I would like to extent the Para Bellum universe to some new games. I have big dreams and ideas that I would like to chase in the future and I would definitely like to see something great in the future of Laukaus Games. The journey so far has been full of great learning and awesome experiences and I feel like I still have so much to give for all of you.

All of that is going to take some time though, which I unfortunately won't be allowed very much in the near future. Me and Laukaus Games will be here though.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. It feels a bit hard for me to disclose all of this, but I want to be fully transparent on what's going on and what you should expect from the future.

Take care, commanders, my friends!

Early Access Update 1.4.0

Greetings, commanders!

Today's update comes with a new support and a couple of smaller fixes. The ability to destroy built Sandbags and especially Emplacements was requested by the players. The new Demolish ability allows you to do exactly that. When you demolish something, a part of the Demolished building's price will be returned to you in a Supply Crate spawned on the demolished building's position. This Supply Crate will then need to be collected by any of your Units.

There will be another update hopefully next week that will include a couple of new Units. Here's a little teaser for that:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZAYYmTurLw

Have a great weekend, commanders!

Full changelog below:
NEW
- Demolish support - allows you to demolish any Sandbags or Emplacements you've built. Will reimburse you a part of the built Emplacements price in a Supply Crate
CHANGES
- Only one cargo plane sound will play at once
FIXES
- Cargo plane sound cuts too early
- Placement bug with GMG Emplacement muzzleflash

Early Access Update 1.3.0

Hey there, commanders!

Another week of Early Access has passed and it's time for another update. The main feature of update 1.3.0 is Helicopter Overwatch Support, as seen here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuq_g-fXA0w

Helicopter Overwatch Support will loiter around your area of designation while suppressing and destroying any Infantry Units it can see.

As usual, there's a couple of more minor additions with the update as well. The full changelog is as follows:
NEW
- Helicopter Overwatch Support
- Contextual messages for building Sandbags and Emplacements
CHANGES
- Changes to collision Layers - this should help with placing and orienting Emplacements and Sandbags, calling in Units and Supports and moving the camera around.
- Added some Unit speech bubble line variety

Have a great weekend, commanders - and to my fellow Finns, happy Independence Day for Monday!

Early Access Update 1.2.2 released!

Hey there, commanders!

I'm up at it again with another non-scheduled update. The purpose for this update was to fix one glaring issue with GMG Emplacements, where the Emplacement was still able to shoot even though the gunner is killed.

Known issue: this version still has the old version number 1.2.1 shown in the Main Menu. I will fix this for the next scheduled update, hopefully up later this week.

Over and out!

Early Access Update 1.2.1

Hello there, commanders!

Quick update outside of my regular update schedule. Changelog as follows:
NEW
- Hit Chance Indicator - if you have Unit(s) selected and hover your mouse over an enemy, a number will show up that shows the chance of the selected Unit(s) to hit that enemy. This feature is still work in progress and implemented for testing and receiving feedback. Subject to change.
FIXES
- Fix for randomly dropping player Morale when using GMG Emplacement
- Potential fix for Achievements not tracking properly

That's all, got you later, commanders!

Early Access Update 1.2.0

Greetings, commanders!

Today's update will bring Para Bellum - Hold the Line up to version Early Access 1.2.0. The most notable change in this update is the GMG Emplacement. This new Support, while costly, will provide you with superior firepower of a Grenade Machine Gun (or Automatic Grenade Launcher, semantics!) and cover of a wooden pillbox. Here's a short video to show how it works:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5dn8YWx33KA

And here's the rest of the update changelog:
NEW
- GMG Emplacement Support
- Requirements for Stars shown in the pause menu of Campaign missions
FIXES
- Details button in the victory screen after Campaign missions mouse detection issue
CHANGES
- If you've missed unlocking one of the following achievements, due to being offline for example, you can unlock them now as you load the campaign
- All Units unlocked
- All Supports unlocked
- Campaign completed
- All Stars unlocked
- Tweaked some UI texts to be more descriptive

Have a great weekend, commanders! Stay tuned for more updates in the near future!

Early Access Update 1.1.0

Spectacular Monday morning, Commanders!

To start the week well, I'm introducing first update for Para Bellum - Hold the Line. This comes with the version number 1.1.0 as it's the first regular update. Here's the list of changes for this update:
NEW
- Quick Unit selection - you can assign Units to groups by holding Left Control and pressing a number key on the number key bar on the top of your keyboard. You can then quickly select these groups by pressing the corresponding number.
- Unit selection sound - You now hear a short sound prompt when you select Units.
FIXES
- Dead Units will no longer be selected or highlighted in certain edge cases.
- Potential fix for cursor size on certain platforms.
CHANGES
- Tweaked range and volume for shell casing impact sounds based on impact velocity

I have a couple of updates planned for the future that will include some new content that has been requested by the players. Stay tuned for those in the near future!

I'm thrilled to announce that Para Bellum - Hold the Line will launch on Steam Early Access on November 19th, 2021! I'm planning to improve the game's balance and performance and further polish the experience based on player feedback during the Early Access period that will take from around one month to an estimated maximum of a few months!
