Update 0.7 - Potions... Now LIVE!

Hello players! Some of you are probably thinking "Hey, we got cauldrons in the last patch, what's going on?" and you would be right, we did release a patch that gave you access to cauldrons. But, we hadn't added all the other related content to go with it - that's what this patch is. We're really excited for this one because we've added tons of stuff. Check it out!

New features:


  • Lots of new sounds (with more to be added soon)
  • Several new quests
  • More guidance in the form of quests and pop-up tips
  • NPC portraits
  • New dialogue UI
  • Yard opened up at beginning of game
  • Luminars will steal light if you linger too long in the forest - beware!
  • Shrines replenish a small bit of light after Dawns Relic Quest
  • New area to enter - mines! (after the Ore quest for Patrick)

  • Leash now has a visible rope between the Lambent and the player

Patch 0.6 - Bubble bubble, toil and trouble... Now LIVE!

Hello players! It's a new month and we've brewed up a new content update just for you. We hope you're keen for new features in our gloomy but cosy little crafting game, and can't wait to hear any idea you might have for how we can expand on them. Check them out!

New features:


  • More beds! Sleeping in better quality beds gives you a well rested status, giving more max light.
  • Cauldrons added! You can now craft this new bubbling crating station
  • Potions! Only a few available to craft right now, but they have some cool effects and more will be coming.
  • New ingredients and crafting recipes to support potions.
  • Added new plant mechanics - trees, grass and other plants won't always grow in the same spots.
  • Smaller plants like straw and the newly added plants no longer require an axe to harvest.
  • Did you hear that? Footstep sounds have been added so you can hear the sound of feet scurry and stomp in the darkness.
  • Cloud saves added! Many of you will be happy about this one.
  • New stats and status mechanics implemented with plans for more related features to come.

Bug fixes:


  • Inventory improvements for crafting benches (furnace, light forge etc.)

Notes:


  • Loading an old save with items in furnaces may remove all the items in the furnace.

Patch Notes - Update 0.5.15

Hello dear players! Firstly, another huge thank you to all the players that have reported bugs to us. You help us make the game better and better everyday, and we truly appreciate your feedback. We're so grateful to have such a great player base that lets us know when something isn't working or doesn't feel right. Below are all the fixes we've implemented since Update 0.5 was released. For those of you that have been in the Discord you may notice that several of these fixes have been released in earlier small patches, but we hadn't yet listed them here and wanted to make sure everyone knew these fixes and improvements had been added in the last couple of weeks.

Bugfixes


  • Fixed issue with Lambents spawning/despawnign in animal pens
  • Lambents try so much harder to stay in their animal pen - they will now take being tamed much more seriously
  • You can now place items in any order in Furnace/Lightium Forge and Mixer
  • Fixed furnace stations from showing progress bar when there was definitely not enough ingredients - should reduce trust issues in inaminate objects.
  • Fixed furnace duplicating items during rest - no more freebies
  • Fixed a bug in Dawns Relic quest, where one of the items spawned early
  • Doors that NPC's use will no longer make their open sound over the whole outerworld map
  • Improvements to item bar which should also fix the bug that froze your inventory bar in the past
  • Fixed NPC spawning - sometimes NPC's got stubborn and didn't want to roam around the world
  • Fixed many typos

QOL


  • Sound should correctly play when near edges of map
  • When mouse selecting inventory items on hud all actions you would expect to happen will now happen
  • Furnace type items now show their name when using them
  • Animal pathing improved
  • Added a particle effect in the dark so you can see items - so sparkly!
  • Shops now fade out things you cannot sell to them, and the amount you can sell for will be on each item you can sell
  • Inventory button now also closes inventory
  • Furnace arrow now highlights when when items are valid
  • Furnace make sound every time an item is crafted

Patch 0.5 - Animals is Now Live!

Hello! Wow! It's been a while since our last significant update to Lightsmith, but we've been working away to bring new content and improvements to this cosy little crafting game of ours. We didn't mean for it to be this long a wait, and we're really sorry for that, but we hope it's worth it for all the new goodies we've added.

New Features


  • New customization options during character creation
  • New types of items for your Lightory (formerly your factory) for both wall and floor slots
  • Lots of new items and materials to collect and craft with
  • New quests to complete
  • Journal added to make keeping track of quests and tasks easier
  • A brand new area to explore - Ruins and Lake
  • Introduction of animal taming and breeding
  • New outside building area to unlock
  • Two new NPC's to meet and interact with - Avario and Ashleah
  • Better scheduling system for NPC's
  • NPC buildings updated - new NPC's can start to move in

Quality of Life Updates


  • Better smelting menu for the furnaces that allows queuing up of craftable resources
  • New split-out version of the inventory menu
  • Re-balanced respawn rates of resources
  • Added NPC nameplates for unnamed NPC's

Our Roadmap for Early Access Lightsmith

Hello Lightsmiths! We know you're all keen to find out more about what we have planned for the game, and we want to be as transparent with you about it as we can without giving too much away too soon and ruining some surprises. So, here is our current planned roadmap!
As we work toward these and get closer to each milestone release we'll drop some hints about what is to come and finalise expected release dates. Right now we're working on 0.5 - Animals, and we're very excited for the content that will be included in this update. We'd love to hear what your thoughts on what the 0.5 update will have, so head on over to our Discord to speculate and maybe get a hint or two from the devs if you're lucky. We can't wait to tell you more soon.

Patch 0.4.6 Now Live!

Hi all! just a quick update to fix a few bugs and other minor things. Keep reporting any bugs to us on the Discord so we can track and fix them ASAP!

Fixes


  • Patrick quest conversation loop - you can now hand in the quest and his dialogue loops correctly
  • First item in stack quest updates - quests correctly register stacked items you need to craft to complete them
  • Balance for Lambent feeding - light matter drops much sooner after feeding
  • Minor conversation updates
  • Metal bar stack size - metal bars now stack 10 like lightium bars
  • Fix Lightcore quest - now registers the activation of the lightcore if you activate it before or after the quest section

Patch 0.4 Now Live!

Hello! It doesn't feel like it's only been a month since our last patch, not with all the changes and new content we've added to the game. You'll notice the game has a different look now and we really hope you love it as much as we do!

Features


  • Changed game art and assets to have color (it looks so good!)
  • Added tool balancing: lower grade tools will take longer to cut/mine resources
  • Added options screen in game so you can change audio levels and key/button binds mid play
  • Added the ability to place furniture on the floor and walls
  • Changed furniture placement to be more accurate
  • Furniture placement guide now shows you the size of the item you are about to place
  • Added Lambents: Little animals that you feed that will produce light matter
  • Light drain occurs over 15 minutes still, but it now has a curve so it stays brighter for longer
  • Improved the sell experience to shop venders
  • Two new shops to go and explore
  • Updated NPC pathing to allow them to walk anywhere but prioritize paths

Bugfixes


  • Small optimisations that should improve game performance on slower machines
  • Furniture placement disappears once furniture is placed.
  • Dropping and using stacked items will take from the selected slot first.
  • Movement optimizations
  • Save migration improved
  • Corrupted saves will now report the devs so we can diagnose

  • Mouse scroll wheel now changes selected item

  • Item stacks drop properly and will not double up (Trees drop 2 wood instead of 4)
  • Infinite spawn in the clock tower fixed
  • Item stacking in inventory fixed
  • Losing items on when inventory full at crafting stations no longer occurs (Item will drop on ground)
  • Some structure prompts added to know what to use at different stations (Lightcore and Crypt)

December 2021 Game Updates

Hello Players! We've been a little quiet since our last patch but only because we've been hard at work behind the scenes working to make changes and improvements to the game. A huge thank you to everyone that has reported bugs to us so we can fix them and/or given feedback. We're really proud of this latest update. It might not seem like a lot right now, but it's laid the groundwork for us to add a whole bunch of new content in future updates. Expect more over the next few months. We'd also love for you to review Lightsmith! Reviews help us to be more visible in the Steam store and help new players get an idea of what to expect, so if you have enjoyed our little game and have a few minutes spare we'd be grateful if you could leave us a nice review. Latest Game Updates - Halloween Content!

Hello players! Have you been enjoying the spooky season? We have, and we're excited to bring you some spooky content to help celebrate it! It's been a hot minute since our last patch, but we promise we've been working hard behind the scenes on all sorts of things to improve the game and make it more enjoyable for you. Firstly, have you seen our new key art? Our artist, Lauren, did a smashing job bringing it to life! We love it, and hope you do too. Next, we want to say a huge thank you to everyone that has purchased and played the game so far! We've loved your feedback and bug reports because it helps us identify and fix things faster, and helps us get to know what you want to see in the game.   • Clocktower added - A menacing landmark. If only you could get it working again...

Latest Game Updates

First, we want to say a great big **THANK YOU** to everyone that has purchased the game and played it in this first week since release. It's really exciting to see so many of you enjoying this little game of ours. It's also been hugely helpful to be able to watch people that aren't us playing the game and to have you all reporting bugs, imbalances, and quality of life issues. We're loving all the feedback you've given us and are working hard to implement what we can.

Patch Notes


Speaking of, we've released a number of micro patches this week to fix some of the issues you let us know about! Here's a full list of updates so far.
  • Mining now requires.... The pickaxe!
  • You can now pick up all structures you have placed down allowing you to move them around
  • The Anvil now has the correct name and icon
  • Added a Details panel to the crafting menu so you are able to see what an item is and what it does
  • Fixed Anvil items being free - no free crafting!
  • The Crafting Table now has the same baseline as other crafted structures
  • We've added 1-8 keys being mapped to item selection
  • Hitting Esc key in inventory and crafting menus now lets you exit instead of bringing up the Pause menu
  • We moved the Pig Pen to be on the way to the Workshop/Factory
  • Stopped the physics issue of Main Character getting bumped and having unlimited momentum
  • Fixed duplicate Chest menu opening
  • There are some small Gloomdale updates you'll just have to play the game to discover...
  • Audio options now apply to ingame
  • Delete save option in start menu will now delete your save without requiring a game restart
  • Scroll wheel now works in build menu
  • Fixed deselect bug in Chest
  • Items/structures drop on ground if there's no room in your inventory

Out Now in Early Access!

Early Access is finally here!


After working hard the last few months, the game is finally available in Early Access! Thank you to those that have helped test so far, your input has been invaluable. Getting our little game in Early Access means you'll get to part of the journey as we continue building it and adding more features and content, and we can't wait to take you along for the ride. Obviously the game isn't going to be perfect - there are going to be parts that may not feel finished and there will be bugs, but helping us identify them will mean we can fix them faster and make a better game.

Latest updates


The game is being released in version v.0.1 in which we have the following features ready for you to explore:
  • A crafting tree of 30 items
  • Wood, rock, metal and light crafting materials
  • Quests from Gloomsdale villagers
  • Simple town management
We're keen to expand the crafting tree and add even more quests, NPCs and features. Updates coming soon!
