Hello ghosties,
Three years ago, we began working on a new game. The idea for the core story came to our writer Dagmar Blommaert in a dream in which she had died and could only observe her partners immense grief from afar while they mourned, dealt with the loss and eventually moved on.
We came together as a team to produce a plan for the game. This photo below is a very early series of notes from a brainstorming session we had together, on a rooftop in Ghent, back in 2019.
This wrenching feeling of not being able to let go eventually blossomed into Ghost on the Shore, an exploration game about the emotional ties that transcend even death. In the game, protagonist Riley is faced with a headstrong ghost, urging her on an adventure across atmospheric shores, uncovering the islands tragic secret. Choices in dialogue shape the bond between the two and ultimately decide Riley's fate.
After seeing such wonderful feedback from players on our first game, Maries Room, a narrative exploration game set within the confines of a single room, we felt the next logical step was to expand on this format with a story set across a series of islands, in the format of a branching narrative with multiple endings.
After three years, our journey has finally come to a close and we are thrilled that you can now meet Riley and Josh for yourselves as you explore the Rogue Islands and discover what happened to these long-forgotten shores.

Exploration and Environmental Storytelling
While you walk the beautiful landscape of the Rogue Islands, you learn their history through the items left behind. Josh remembers more from his time on the islands, and Riley is encouraged to reveal her dreams, goals and why she is running from her old life.
Immersive Dialogue
A unique feature that allows the player to make choices in a subtle immersive way. You don't always know how your words will affect the other. Words are powerful tools. Just like in real life, things can become fun, exciting or plain awkward.
Irrevocable Choices
Every dialogue option is shown only once, which makes your choices definite.
Branching Narrative
The relationship you choose to build with the ghost defines the narrative branch you get to explore. There are four branches with a different ending for each.
Created by like Charlie, the team behind the award-winning story exploration game Marie's Room.
Features
Hi all! George here.
As you will have gleaned from the title of this post, we officially have a date for the Steam release of Ghost on the Shore: Feb 24th.
Many of you have been following the development of Ghost on the Shore now for some time and I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you. Your comments throughout development have helped shape and refine the game that we will be releasing here at the end of the month, and we could not have done it without you.
Whether you have been wishlisting the game since the team first began development, or have recently discovered it via a festival or digital event here on Steam, I wanted to show our appreciation for your support.
As we do our final pre-flight checks now for takeoff, I wanted to ask one final favour.
If you have a friend or colleague, online or otherwise, whom you think would enjoy a first-person narrative driven adventure such as ours, please do share the game with them. We're a very small team here, and we can truly use all the help we can get. If you believe that games are more than just the tried and true formats we all know and accept, please help spread the word by recommending the game on Steam to a friend, or sharing the news on Twitter, Discord or another social media platform you use.
Thanks for all your support, and we will meet you on the shore.

Stephane Cornicard, a true industry veteran has over 30 years of acting experience in films, TV shows and video games. You may know him from Rome: Total War as Napoleon, A Plague Tale: Innocense as Vitalis and Horizon Zero Dawn as Patrick Brochard-Klein. In Ghost on the Shore, Stephane gives his voice to Scruff, an old sailor reminiscing about the past he cant seem to escape. His spectacular performance has landed him a win at The One Voice Awards in the Best Male Performance category. We're incredibly proud to be working with an actor of this caliber. Back in February Eline joined our ranks as an art intern, and weve been incredibly happy to have her with us. At last, we were able to iterate some of the areas that we developed a while back. Some of the buildings that used to be ruins are now redesigned to better reflect the architecture specific to the islands. Like our beloved lighthouse, which you may have spotted playing our demo. Its getting a full makeover in the traditional wooden lighthouse style. [previewyoutube=Vpu9pOjpA-I;full][/previewyoutube] Stop by our Discord channel for more behind-the-scenes development footage.
We have great news to share! Ghost on the Shore was nominated for the Most Anticipated Game of the Year at Belgian Game Awards.
Belgian videogames industry is a tight-knit community that has supported us a lot. We're happy to see that they share our excitement for the upcoming launch of Q3 this year. We're proud to be included in such an impressive lineup and wish good luck to all the nominees!

What makes an indie game stand out? To us, its definitely the quality of all the different elements of a game, coming together. The player will notice the art style and gameplay first. But an immersive writing, relatable voice-over and one-of-a-kind sound design make a truly polished experience. We are lucky to have two extremely talented sound designers on board - Ward Snauwert and Dries Vienne. Dries originally worked on our first title, Maries Room, and then freelanced for Ghost on the Shore. Today were happy to announce that he has joined us full-time. Lets get to know him some more.

Ghost on the Shore is once again happy to be taking part in the Steam Game Festival event!
The lullaby is a sort of universal leitmotif throughout the game. The songs in the game are all in some way linked to one another. All stemming from this ancient song. I started out by picking pieces from the title song Flesh and Blood and simplified the melody to fit a lullaby. (You cant use a rock song to get kids to sleep). Ive used chords for more melancholy and movement. I made different versions to see which fitted the singers voice best. [previewyoutube=s4t9RNf7m9A;full][/previewyoutube] The lyrics were inspired by the legend of the Selkie - a seal-like creature that changes into a woman once she comes on land. She can only return to the sea if she puts her seal skin back on. Now thats a song! She meets a boy, and because he doesnt want her to leave he hides her skin. She falls in love, becomes a mother. One day she finds her skin and cant deny the call of the sea and returns. Every year she comes to the beach to see her children again. She sings this song at a bonfire the night before she goes back to the waves. [previewyoutube=59eajA-rdeo;full][/previewyoutube] Marijke Guetens has a lot of experience with ancient folk music. Her voice made it a deeply moving traditional lullaby, filled with a mothers love for her child. - Ward
Try out our demo! Were now a team of eight and rolling like never before. Always ready to tackle a new challenge together! We like to think its because we all put a bit of ourselves in the game - from the community manager to the CEO. The stories dont end with us. Our friends and families become a part of the team too. They often deliver the handwritings for letters, journals and notes within the scene. And youll find many drawings created by the children of our crew members. We love watching our little artists create something that can live on within our game. In a way developing Ghost on the Shore is a family business and combines the stories of us all. [previewyoutube=dzkRWjziY68;full][/previewyoutube] Our community is very much part of it too. They have contributed to the game in so many ways! If youd like to be part of this, wed love to meet you. Please join our Discord to learn more about our events. Thank you for reading! TheKristi
This year has been a busy one for like Charlie. We expanded our team with 3D artist Kaat and are now a team of eight. We had four incredibly talented interns - Marie, Yohan, Jef and Jozef - who helped accelerate development. We opened our Discord server and 132 of you joined us on this crazy game development journey. And there are many many more friends following us on our social channels. We couldnt ask for a better community, youve helped us with new ideas and brought smiles to our faces every day. Were lucky to have you and we promise to work hard to get you the game you deserve. If youd like to learn more about what goes on behind the scenes, we welcome you to join our Discord. We wish you a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year! - Dagmar, Kenny, Alex, Steven, Ward, Dries, Kaat, Kristi [previewyoutube=O1c1knqbGTU;full][/previewyoutube]
Weve been working on one of the more uncanny scenes in Ghost on the Shore - the graveyard. A lot of game lore will be buried in this area. The fate of some of the fascinating islanders will be revealed on this piece of sacred land. 3D artist Kaat Van Thillo created a little sneak peek walkthrough for you, in which she shares a personal story related to this area. [previewyoutube=wvzu2ZGOm2Y;full][/previewyoutube] Join our Discord to keep an eye on our progress and let us know what you think. We'll share more news next week! Cheers, TheKristi
Ghost on the Shore is brimming with stories that are waiting to be discovered. Abandoned villages harbor lost items and forgotten belongings. Hidden tapes and letters anticipate recipients. Riley experiences inexplicable visions. These islands want to share their stories with the player. As you document your findings in the travel journal, you unveil the tragic history.
This week our 2D artist Steven Vergauwen is grinding away and we love getting these drawings from him. We wanted to share some of those with you.
Join our Discord, we'd love to hear from you.
See you soon,
TheKristi
