In 2016, we set out to create a turn-based tactics game, driven by nostalgia for an era of handheld strategy games. Wargroove came to be, through a desire to capture the retro-feel of these titles, and a passionate community of tactics fans who cheered us on along the way. In 2020, we partnered with our great friends and strategy game developers at Robotality, with a vision of creating Wargroove 2. We expanded the world of Aurania, introducing new factions, stories and game modes. The Wargroove series is one brimming with challenging, strategic gameplay that we couldnt help but keep growing. It is our pleasure to bring you the full series: Wargroove, its DLC Double Trouble and its sequel Wargroove 2 all in a single cartridge, to play on handhelds, just as we loved to do on our Game Boy Advances. If you have any questions please give the homies at Super Rare Games a shout on X or Discord. Thanks again for all your support!

Hey everyone!
Were stopping by to wish a very happy 5th anniversary to Wargroove! It's been an exciting year, with the reveal of the sequel, Wargroove 2, weve continued to expand the world of Aurania and build our community into a hub of enthusiastic tactics fans! To celebrate this special day, both Wargroove and Wargroove 2 will be on sale from February 1st to February 8th.
Wargroove came to life as a love letter to the classic turn-based tactical games we adored and wanted to see on modern platforms. Fueled by nostalgia and an excitement to build something new after Starbound, in 2017 we got to work building a new strategy title with a retro feel. As Aurania and the factions of Cherrystone, Felheim, Floran and Heavensong came to life throughout development, we developed new twists to keep the genre fresh. With a unique Groove system, dynamic gameplay and a custom campaign and map editor, Wargroove became a full-featured title.
Wargroove not only became a labour of love by the development team, but also became a bustling community of passionate tactics fans who love creating fan art, custom campaigns, mods and our very own thriving competitive community, Groove of War. You can join our community Discord to see what all the buzz is about
After launching Wargroove in 2019, we followed up on Wargrooves success with an all-new co-operative DLC, Double Trouble - a free update which brought a new story and a brand-new Outlaw faction into the mix. In 2020, the baton passed to our friends at Robotality, who took over with their own turn-based strategy experience and expanded Wargroove even further with Wargroove 2, introducing a plethora of new units, 2 new factions and 3 story-rich campaigns.
The anniversary sale is our little way of showing gratitude for your unwavering support. The Wargroove community wouldnt be the same without your enthusiastic engagement and feedback. Thank you all for all the support youve shown Wargroove over the last 5 years. We hope youve enjoyed the additions made to Wargroove 2. Heres to many more years of tactical gameplay goodness!

Wargroove 2 has been a delight to make. The team has been working on the game since May 2020 while many of us were locked down and unable to leave our homes. Throughout Wargroove 2s development, I have found such joy, camaraderie, and inspiration from my fellow developers. To Robotality and the rest of the development team: I am proud and honored to have been part of this journey with you.
Weve been overwhelmed by the positive critical reception that Wargroove 2 has received so far, and are pleased to have been able to improve on the foundation the Chucklefish team built during the first Wargroove. Taking on this sequel was indeed a colossal task, but we're absolutely thrilled to have done it the justice it deserves. We're excited to see how far we've come and can't wait for you to join us on this journey!
Players can grab Wargroove 2 today on PC & Nintendo Switch. While you dont need to know the story of the first Wargroove to hop into Wargroove 2, you can also grab the Wargroove Bundle that has both games for a cheeky 10% off.
Oh, and great news - Wargroove 2 supports crossplay! If you're on the hunt for fellow strategy enthusiasts to game with, why not drop by our official Wargroove Discord? It's the perfect place to make new pals and challenge some formidable foes.
Already marched into the world of Wargroove 2? We'd love to hear your thoughts! If you have any feedback or suggestions, don't hesitate to share them with us in this Steam Forum thread. Your input helps us make the game even better, so let's hear it!
Finally, thank you again for all of your support whilst we were making this game. See you on the battlefield and enjoy!

Wargroove 2 takes all the elements players adored in the original game - the charming pixel art, the big-brain turn-based combat - and amps it up several notches. Say hello to 2 new playable factions, meet new Commanders, and brace yourself to embark on three new interlacing campaigns: Breaking Grounds, Rising Tides and Dark Skies.
We also revealed the latest faction coming to Wargroove 2: The Faahri Republic. A nation of curious mouse-folk who have landed in Aurania on a scholarly expedition. What the Faahri Republic lacks in military experience, they more than make up for with academic theory. Equipped with mysterious crystal technology, Commanders Lytra, Pistil, and Rhomb must work together in pursuit of information for their mysterious benefactors.
What's more, Wargroove 2 introduces a Supercharged Groove system, giving you an upper hand in turning the tide of battle to your favour. But if you're up for a true test of your tactical genius, the all-new roguelike game mode 'Conquest' awaits you.
The extended Wargroove universe is for everyone, meaning that you dont need to have completed Wargroove 1 in order to play Wargroove 2. Pick up and play on your own terms, in your own time, at your own pace.

Hi everyone!
Were excited to announce that Wargroove 2 will be taking part in this Steam Next Fest. That means youll be able to play the demo from June 19th - 26th, starting at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 6pm BST / 7pm CEST / 2am JST / 1am CST.
The demo will be playable in English, French, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Simplified Chinese (Japanese players, we'll have news for you soon!).
In this demo, were giving you a look at Conquest, a single-player roguelike mode completely new to Wargroove 2, as well as access to online and local co-op Multiplayer skirmishes! If you played the PAX Wargroove 2 demo, fear not, were made some changes based on initial player feedback and have new commanders on the roster: Caesar, Mercia, Emeric and Dark Mercia.
Check out the Steam Next Fest demo teaser trailer here:
[previewyoutube=TqsT63CQN60;full][/previewyoutube]
Whats Conquest mode?
Hands up if you crave permadeath! In Conquest, youll take on quick-paced, bite-sized battles where every choice is permanent. Once youve selected your starting troop, plan your route to victory as you take on a series of challenges leading up to the demos boss.
The Steam Next Fest demo is, of course, an early snapshot of what you can expect from Conquest mode in the full game - with more trials to unlock with various Commanders, as you climb the ranks of this new challenging game mode!
Whats changed since the PAX East demo build?
Weve made a few exciting changes to the build since our PAX demo, which we did a progress update on last month. Those changes are finally ready, with a changelist that includes:
- Lucky Coins (previously Blessings) are permanent
- Instead of one commander, you pick your commander at the beginning of the conquest. 5 commanders in total available. Selection is randomized.
- New items
- Rebalanced progression in conquest mode
- Conquest is a bit longer overall (2 elite fights)
- New events (there's a couple of new mystery events, merchant events and heal events)
- Dedicated recruit events (with randomized capacities)
- Lots of UI Tweaks + new UI elements
- Improved controller support
- Free Move mode has been added: In non-combat maps you can move around freely without turns.
- Improved/fixed AI in Fog of War (they don't cheat quite as directly any more)
How do I start a Multiplayer game? In this demo you can play both Online and Local Multiplayer modes with up to 4 players, with a limited number of Commanders old and new alike at your disposal (you might notice though that were keeping a few a secret for now!) To kickstart a match, select Multiplayer from the menu and select either Local or Online. For an Online match, you can join a friends match by selecting the button to the bottom right and join with a code, or host a New Match and have a friend (or stranger!) join your game. Looking for people to play with? Join our Discord and find folks who want to play!
Twitch Integration This demo build also has Twitch integration using Wargroove 2's new unit renaming feature! Simply select the Twitch icon at the bottom left of the title screen and authorize "Wargroove 2". When you spawn or recruit a new unit, it will be bestowed a name from a lovely participant in your Twitch chat! What else will be in the full game?
- 6 Factions with 22 Commanders
- 3 Campaigns, interwoven by an explosive conclusion
- 5 new units, bringing the total unit types to 26
- Conquest mode - the new roguelike game mode
- Local and Online Multiplayer
- Map & custom campaign creation tools
- Original OST by Dale North

Hey everyone, As of today, Wargroove now features cross-play support between ALL platforms, including PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC. Wahoo! We're really happy to finally be able to complete our vision of one big, happy Wargroove community, as PS4 players now join the mix. This means that no matter what platform of Wargroove you choose to battle on, you can enjoy competitive and cooperative multiplayer games, as well as share and play community-made maps online with friends. From the very early stages of development, we knew that playing Wargroove multiplayer was not only incredibly fun, but also a huge part of the game's experience, which made supporting crossplay between all platforms a no-brainer for us. As you may already know, the release of our free DLC, Wargroove: Double Trouble, on Steam earlier this year also featured a new public and private lobby system, making it quicker and easier to get stuck into an online match, no matter your platform of choice! With today's much-awaited PS4 launch of Wargroove: Double Trouble, AND the addition of full crossplay support, we hope you'll have fun teaming up with some new players to take on our Outlaw-themed Co-Op campaign. Have fun out there!
We're excited to be teaming up with the team at Japan-based studio, Area 35, on a brand new free DLC campaign for strategy title TINY METAL: FULL METAL RUMBLE, featuring Wargroove's majestic armoured dog Commander, Caesar!
As big fans of turn-based tactics and the awesome games that Area 35 make, adding Caesar to the TINY METAL ranks feels like a match made in Heavensong.
You wont be waiting long either - TINY METAL: FULL METAL RUMBLE - Caesar's Rescue DLC is available for *FREE* on Nintendo Switch and PC tomorrow (Thursday March 12th, 2020)!
Featuring:
- TINY METAL's very own Nora must team up with everyone's favourite magnificent and majestic canine Commander in order to save the world, in a brand-new DLC campaign
- Outmanoeuvre enemies to help Caesar get back home to the Kingdom of Cherrystone
- Caesar brings a brand-new pixel art visuals in signature Wargroove style to the characters of TINY METAL: FULL METAL RUMBLE as pixelation spreads across the globe
- Players of the DLC campaign will be given an initial set of units which will be used throughout all 5 DLC chapters. Use survivalist tactics and Caesars inspiring nature to ensure as many units as possible make it through to the very end!
Oh lawd, he comin!
We're so happy to finally share with you some exciting new Wargroove merch, in the form of this adorable Caesar plush!
(Wargroove vinyl for scale sold separately via Yetee Records & Boss Battle Records)
We've been working with the team at The Yetee on this very good boy for some months now. The idea to make a plush Caesar has been floating around since the early days of Wargroove development, and it was a pleasure to bring him to life with the Yetees talented designers and all their plush expertise.
We went through a few iterations until he was just right, consulting the development team here at Chucklefish all the way through. We frequently referred to photos of the dog breed that Caesar is based on, which, if youre a Caesar fan youll undoubtedly know is a Great Pyrenees. The trickiest parts were the ears and the expression, we wanted him to be as cute as can be so, in the end, we went for Caesars happy expression which you see when he wins a battle (or when its dinner time).
Our Caesar Plush is available to purchase right now on The Yetee store for $26, and ships worldwide from the US.
We hope you all enjoy this huggable pup as much as we do!
The wait is over - our big, new, free DLC Wargroove: Double Trouble is available now to download! Team up and lead the new Outlaw faction to strategic victory! Designed with co-op play in mind, this expansion adds a new story campaign introducing all-new Outlaw Commanders and much more! After an unexpected kidnapping and some severe ransom demands, your group of rogues have no choice but to perform the biggest heist that Aurania has ever seen https://store.steampowered.com/app/1061140/Wargroove_Double_Trouble/ Wargroove: Double Trouble introduces:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1061140/Wargroove_Double_Trouble/
Take a look at our brand new Wargroove: Double Trouble trailer created by our super talented Technical Designer Armagon:
[previewyoutube=Hd0e8WZxEh4;full][/previewyoutube]
Development on Wargroove: Double Trouble actually started before the release of the base game. Work kicked off in the period between the end of Wargroove's core development and the game's release when Wargroove was going through localization, testing, and platform submissions.
We knew that we wanted to expand upon Wargroove's story and create some new characters, but a real focal point for us was the local co-op gameplay element. As a studio we always really enjoyed playing Wargroove together, so creating a shorter campaign that could be played couch co-op felt like a no-brainer.
Another element set from the beginning was the idea of a 2-in-1 Commander, which we felt was not only unique but also fit the theme really well. Here's a concept animation sheet showing how we looked at the ways the twins' actions would work together. It's pretty cool to see a breakdown of how Errol's amulet also comes into play, igniting dynamite for Orla's slingshot attack and generating a protective shield when defending!
Can't remember what else is in the DLC? Here's a quick recap!
- Brand new Co-Op Story Campaign (can be played couch co-op, online co-op or even solo)
- 3 New Roguish Commanders
- 2 New Units - Thieves & Riflemen
- New Arcade missions
- Competitive online Quick Play maps
- Public and Private Multiplayer Lobbies
- Custom maps now playable online
- New Volcano map theme and more updates to the custom Editor tools
- Outlaw music tracks, composed by Phonetic Hero
- And much more!
Until next time!
Wargroove is a modern take on the simple yet deep turn-based tactical gameplay popularised in the 2000s by handheld games such as Advance Wars. As big fans of those games we were disappointed to find that nothing in this genre was available on current generation platforms and set out to fill the gap ourselves. One of the most common pieces of feedback we get on Wargroove is that the game is either far too difficult or far too easy - which makes balancing it that much more difficult! Though, even as developers we sometimes struggle getting that S-rank and have even failed our missions, embarrassingly, on stream in front of the community. If youre anything like the majority of us, then youll know that sucking at the game is half the fun. If you think Wargroove deserves your vote as the Best Game You Suck At, click the tab above. Thank you!
Hi everyone!
I hope you're all suitably excited for the upcoming *free* DLC, Wargroove: Double Trouble! We're getting closer to the stage of being able to announce a release date, but in the meanwhile let's get you better acquainted with the voice talent behind Double Trouble's new Commanders. You'll soon be hearing their fantastic taunts and warcries on the battleground. If you want a reminder of the original Wargroove voice cast, you can find out more in our previous Role Call blog.

You can also follow updates about Wargroove: Double Trouble and Wargroove in general on Twitter, Facebook, our forums, the Wargroove subreddit, and the wiki!
See ya!
Hello everyone, We wanted to share more details about the new units and commanders you'll find in Wargroove's upcoming free DLC Double Trouble (we'll have news about a release date soon)! Were also incredibly excited that PS4 and Switch versions of the Wargroove Deluxe Edition physical copies released this week, so make sure to check out retailers such as Amazon, GAME, GameStop, JB Hi Fi, Micromania, ShopTo, fnac, MediaMarkt, Argos to grab a copy to hold in your hands!
Thief
The Thief is sneakiest unit in the game. What they lack in strength, they more than make up with cunning and sleight of hand. Thieves can fill their knapsacks with 300 gold by ransacking enemy buildings, and 1000 gold if they manage to pull off a heist on the enemy Stronghold.
Thieves cant do this alone though! Since theyre unable to attack, theyll need reinforcements, subterfuge and protection as they journey across the map. Let it be said that opportunity makes a thief!
Rifleman
A Rifleman spends their whole life training to become an expert marksman watch out, you dont want to be in this units line of sight, lest you be blown across the map! But with limited ammo, comes great responsibility, as youll need to keep track of how many shots your Rifleman has left to avoid stopping to reload out in the open.
Of course, not just a pretty face, a Rifleman can be deadly when theyre desperate, landing critical hits when theyre down to their last shot. If youre going up against this gun-wielding unit, make sure to take cover between the trees, where their bullets wont reach you.
New Commanders
Commanders are the most powerful unit type in Wargroove -leading their troops into battle and using their special ability to turn the battle in their favor. We have some new commanders arriving in Double Trouble. These three are all from the Outlaw faction, a group of lawless rogues who plunder and pillage.
Wulfar
Wulfar is the Chief of the largest and oldest Outlaw clan in Aurania. He stands enormously tall and uses his colossal strength to wield his weapon of choice a massive stone hammer. It may seem a clumsy instrument, but years of training allow him to wield it with expert precision.
He comes from a long line of pirates and thieves and uses his flexibility and adaptability to overcome opponents in battle. Though many are intimidated by his towering physique, Wulfars strong resolve, quick thinking, and clever problem solving are the reasons his Outlaw clan follows him. Wulfars groove uses his hammer like a supercharged golf club, launching his target across the map, dealing damage to both the target and any enemies they land near. With one fell swoop of the hammer, Wulfar can launch ground units into the ocean to immediately defeat them or swing at allies to reposition them during battle.
Errol & Orla
These twin commanders come as a pair, but operate as one! They have two Grooves between them, but share a single Groove Meter. With feisty Orla on the attack and thoughtful Errol defending, this dynamic duo is a force to be reckoned with.
Carefully choosing which Groove to unleash depending on the state of the battle will be key to maximising the twins potential, although being typical siblings they often bicker on which Groove is best. Errol would argue that his groove Cooling Water has the best applications. Once activated, a large area is covered with healing magic, shrinking in size over several turns. Any units left in the area at the start of the twins turn are healed for 20% of their full health, so be careful not to accidentally heal enemy units! Orla would tell you that her groove, Scorching Fire is the better of the two. Initially igniting only a single tile, the flaming area grows in size over several turns creating an area of destruction that instantly defeats any unit caught in the flames. And we really mean any unit, including your own.
Vesper
Sly, deceitful and abrasive, Vesper certainly makes an impression this notorious criminal is capable of conjuring a demonic smoke beast with just a whip and a flourish. A real bte noire, nest-ce pas?
Vesper is the main antagonist in our brand new co-op story campaign. Fresh from kidnapping someone close to Wulfar and the twins, Vesper demands a hefty ransom for their return. Wulfar, Errol and Orla must raid the Imperial Palace of Heavensong, The Stone Mountain Fort of Felheim, The Celandine Vault of Cherrystone and the Florans Iron Root reserves Its a heist, for all the gold in Aurania! Vespers groove Smoke Shroud sees her shrouding an area of the map in thick, magical smoke. Units within this area cannot be targeted or counter-attacked for one turn. That's it for this preview! Again, if you're interested in the physical edition of the game for consoles there's a variety of included goodies - a map, a classic instruction manual, soundtrack code, and stickers!

Hello everyone! Today were doing a public beta of a long awaited PC feature, modding! Weve been testing it ourselves, but as you are all much more creative than us, wed really like your help to break it as much as possible while creating cool mods!
How do I access the beta?
Good question! First of all back up your save files! Next, youll find the beta is available on Steam by using a beta branch. In your Steam library, right-click on the Wargroove entry and select Properties. In the Betas tab, you should see a drop down and a textbox. In the textbox, enter the password caesarisagoodboy and click Check Code.
If the code has worked, you should be able to select the public-beta option from the drop down box. Once youve done that, Steam should install the beta and youre ready to go!
How do I make a mod?
I have written a document to help you get started, which you can find on the Wargroove wiki! (Is this document just a thinly veiled attempt to get my dog more Instagram followers? Answer: yes). In addition, weve created a few little examples that you can find by following the file path C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Wargroove\modpacker_bin
How do I share a mod?
Once youve created your mod, it should have put itself in your Wargroove appdata folder. You can probably find this at %appdata%/Chucklefish/Wargroove/mods. Copy the folder with your mod name on it and send it to a friend! They just put the folder in the same spot in their appdata folder.
How do I use a mod?
Custom Maps If you want to create a modded map, go into a custom map and open the main menu. Hit the branch new Mods button, and you should see a list of your installed mods.
Just flip the switch for the ones you want to use and change the ordering if you need to. Hit Save and Reload Map. This should reload your map with the mods on. The Add to Mod button is for packaging maps within a mod, and you can read about it in the document linked in the How do I make a mod? section. Local Multiplayer If you want to use a mod in a map that already exists, go to local multiplayer and select the map. In the Match Settings window, hit the Mods button, and you should see a list of your installed mods. Flip the switches for the mods you want to use and change the ordering if you need to.
Hit close when youre done and you should be using your mods!
Online Multiplayer
The only modded maps that can be used in online multiplayer are maps that have been packaged within a mod. All players must have the same version of the mod installed. If you do, when you go to host a game you should see the modded map available. Anyone with the same version of the mod installed can join the game like normal.
Will console versions receive modding tools?
Unfortunately not this is a platform restriction we dont have control over, so modding tools are a PC only feature. Console players will not be able to access any custom content or join any online matches which use PC mods, and instead will see an error message.
I have more questions!
Ill be on the Wargroove discord today to answer questions, and Ill be available as long as Im near my computer!
Something is broken! How can I report it?
First of all, thank you! Weve set up a forum post to collect feedback HERE. You can also post on discord, but please post on the forum as well so that it doesnt get lost! Happy modding!
!

Hi everyone! The Wargroove Discord members among you may have seen that last week Chucklefish CEO Tiy divulged some information on what the development team are currently working on, and details on what you can expect in upcoming minor and major patches across all versions. Today we wanted to go into a little more detail! An official caveat though, the below isnt a finalised list of content, nor can we 100% confirm that all of these features will make it into the upcoming updates, as some are still in development / testing stages, so keep that in mind! Updates also still need to go through various approval processes, so we cant estimate exact release dates just yet.
So whats next for Wargroove?
While weve been keeping our heads-down in development since the last major QoL patch, were constantly reading and listening to feedback from all around the player-base be that from the online competitive scene, map-making fans as well as casual players who are keen to see more content to get stuck into. As such we have 3 updates in the works: v1.3.0 Minor Patch
- Korean Language will be added! !
- Bug fixes
- Some technical stuff laying the foundation for PC Mod support
- Adds mod support via Steam Workshop check out this Commander mod preview where we recruited one of our office dogs!

- Unit balance adjustments to a number of units and Commanders

This update will also include new Map Editor options theres quite a lot of ideas were testing at the moment, so here we go

- Counters Were adding new actions to perform arithmetic between counters as well as setting the counter to random value, and load/storing counter values to some other variables (HP, Groove etc.). Theres also a new condition to compare counters.
- Actions can now play sounds
- Metalocations Were adding support for metalocations which indicate where things last happened on the map, for example the last attacker, last defender, last recruit, last unit used, last movement path, last death etc. There will also be new actions for locations, such as copying a location area, moving location by (x,y) and boolean operations between locations.
- Unit Modifiers Were also enabling players to modify the damage that any unit/structure receives as a percentage, including making them invulnerable. Were also looking into a teleport unit action for the editor.
