It's already been ten days since the release of Reverie Knights Tactics and we are truly grateful for all the support you have shown our game so far! Over these ten days, we have received a lot of feedback and suggestions, and we cannot thank you enough for it. We understand that the launch of the game was not perfect for some players, but it is only thanks to the amazing community you have already formed, that we have been able to release two updates in less than a week (you can read more about them here and here), fixing many of the reported issues. We of course continue our work on improving the game as we are solving even more issues, and implementing changes based on your suggestions as well.
If you have already tried our game, we would really appreciate if you could come to the forums or our discord, and let us know what you would like changed or added. Greetings adventurers! Thank you all so much for trying out Reverie Knights Tactics, and for your feedback here in discussions and reviews as well - it allowed us to release another quality of life update, which brings the most requested changes and improvements to the game. Full changelog follows:
Major Improvements:
New Difficulty Options - Story, Normal, Hard
Story - The story mode of play, for those that want to experience the story without challenging combat. Enemy strength is reduced, party health and mana is restored after each encounter, and items are more plentiful. Normal - The normal mode of play, for those that want to experience challenging combat and narrative. Party health and mana is restored after encounters. Hard - Hard Mode is for those seeking an even more challenging experience. Party health and mana is not restored after encounters, making environment usage and item management crucial. Please note that all existing player's Normal Mode save data will be changed to Hard Mode automatically to keep consistent with its previous behaviour. A backup copy of saves will be created when loading a Save Data from a previous game version. However, players can now also change the game's difficulty during a playthrough in the Options Menu. Please note that changing the game's difficulty during an encounter will require a restart/retry of the battle for these changes to be applied. Also note that these changes are only applied to the Save Data when the game is saved. Players are recommended to save manually after changing the difficulty setting via the Options Menu. ---
New Item: Potion of Undoing
Allows the player to respec all Attribute Points of all party members when used in the Customization Menu. This item is granted at certain moments in the narrative, and a recipe to craft it at the Cook can be unlocked later in the game. Players that have already progressed through these narrative moments will be granted the Potions of Undoing they missed. ---
Options to control the visibility of Tiles during battles.
Tile Outlines, the white line surrounding the tile, can now be shown as fully visible (current), transparent, and disabled. Tile Fills, the center shadow of the tiles, can now be enabled or disabled. These settings can now be changed in the Options menu. Please note that Tile Fills will always be displayed when showing the color ranges for movement, skills, and area of effects during battles.

- Minor balance updates.
- Minor battle design updates.
- Standardized Attribute Unlocking across input devices. (Both mouse and gamepad now require a confirmation)
- Updated the Cogni costs of certain tomes at the Scribe to create a smoother purchasing curve. Players that already purchased these tomes will be refunded the Cogni cost difference upon loading a saved game from the previous version.
- Tomes can now be purchased after the final encounters of the game.
- Virtual Pointer will now move the camera when close to the edge of the screen.
Bugfixes:
- Fixed a late game task not being shown properly in the Quest Log.
- Fixed a crash when loading the Main Menu that could occur with certain kinds of CPUs.
- Fixed certain cinematics sometimes not playing the correct animations and sfx.
- Fixed a position issue with the Game Over Screen buttons that occurred in certain resolutions.
Known Issues:
- We are aware of out of bound instances in some scenes when playing in narrow and ultra wide aspect ratios.
- Some crashes may occur due to Discord Overlay. If you are experiencing crashes, we suggest trying to disable Discord Overlay for Reverie Knights Tactics.
- We've been unable to reproduce certain reports of soft locks during battles. If you encounter such an issue, you can help us try track it down by specifying the situation that may have led to it, such as skill, battle, or active enemy/player turn/action that may have caused it, as well as which platform you are playing on (Windows, Linux, Mac).

- Changed/fixed levelling up attribute points in the Customization Menu using a controller

With just one day left until the release of Reverie Knights Tactics, we are concluding our series of introductory articles about the main characters of the game (read about Aurora here, about Brigandine here and about Fren here), and this time we are going to tell you more about Hellaron, master and mentor to Aurora.
While the Order of Tanna-Toh is led by the Helladarion, a large, living artifact located in the Caves of Knowledge, mobile platforms of the Helladarion are spread throughout the Kingdom at various temples dedicated to the goddess. Hellaron is one of these mobile platforms, capable of performing many of the Helladarion's feats, such as absorbing memories of those who passed away.
Calm and somewhat mechanical, Hellaron has watched over Aurora ever since she was brought into the order and could not stay away when she needed him on her quest. As a mystical being himself, he has ready access to many abilities and spells that provide various tactical benefits in a battle.
However, don't let his calm demeanor fool you - he is quite capable of inflicting damage, when he deems necessary.
This is of course nowhere near the full list of abilities Hellaron will be able to unlock in Reverie Knights Tactics, coming January 25! But we would not want to spoil all of the game for you, so we hope you've enjoyed this little sneak peek. And that brings our series of character introductions to a close. We are continuing our series of introductory articles about main characters of Reverie Knights Tactics today (read about Aurora here and about Brigandine here), and this time we are going to tell you more about Fren, the smug and cynical guide, recruited to help Aurora (and Brigandine) on their quest.
A ranger in Lenrienn's hayday, Fren now lives isolated in the woods surrounding Rarnaak, the remains of what once was his city. He was contacted by the Order of Tanna-Toh to lead Aurora's expedition into Myrvallar Forest, a task he was only completely convinced to perform after he was assured Aurora and Brigandine had what it takes to survive in such a dangerous place.
As with most elves, Fren can display an entitled sense of superiority to those around him, and the isolation of the forest has left more than a few marks on his personality.
Most noticeably, his tenure in the wilderness taught Fren to hit fast, and hit hard. He has a variety of ways to hurt multiple enemies around him, and his Focus attack, well... See for yourself:
As a ranger, he is in general attuned to his surroundings, and to an extent can also use the forces of the forest to hinder and restrain his enemies.

Brigandine is earnest, cheerful, and, although something of an airhead, very attentive to those around her. Brigandine is known for her voracious appetite and, while she eats much more than her size would indicate and has a palate that welcomes most kinds of food and spices, she has a weak spot for sweets and pastries.
A strong soldier in her own right, Brigandine is nonetheless terrified of anything with a ghostly nature: spirits, wraiths and apparitions are the bane of her existence, and her friendship to Aurora is one of the few things that would motivate her to take a perilous journey to a place full of spectral menaces.
On the battlefield, Brigandine is not easy to take down with her heavy armor and enormous shield. She can on the other hand push enemies around and control the battlefield with her... Unique way of taunting enemies.

With the release date of Reverie Knights Tactics quickly approaching, we decided it's high time to introduce you to our cast of main characters. First, let's take a looks at Aurora, the main protagonist of the game:
A cleric of Tanna-Toh, Goddess of Knowledge, Aurora is no stranger to adversity, having lived off the streets of Malpetrim since an early age. She scraped up food and money in any way she could, until a fateful meeting with Marius, an emissary of Tanna-Toh who took her under his wing and eventually filled the role of mentor and father. With her existence going from a perilous to a sheltered one, Aurora was raised inside the Order of Tanna-Toh, becoming a faithful servant of the goddess with a deep appreciation for knowledge of all sources.
When her adoptive father Marius decided to take on the mission to extract whatever wisdom could be gathered from the fallen city of Lenrienn, the decision did not sit well with Aurora, and once her father failed to return, she knew bringing him -- or at least his memories -- back was her responsibility. She would save him as he once had saved her.

Aurora is by no means helpless, being a powerful ice-based spellcaster, she can dish out significant amount of damage, her magic is truly formidable.
But far from being just an agent of destruction on the battlefield, her long studies have given her the ability to heal herself and her friends with her spells as well.

Hi guys! My name is Leonardo Pietrowski and Im a Brazilian music producer, composer and sound director. I worked on Reverie Knights Tactics by directing and producing all audio, including songs, sound effects and managing talents for audio production. This is just a little bit of my story with this awesome game!
For starters, let me say this: working on Reverie Knights Tactics was a blast! We started way back when (maybe 5 years ago?) with some drafts of how we were going to approach the game sonically. We were throwing a lot of different ideas around to see what we wanted the music to sound like and how we were going to create and implement the sound effects.
The first thing that we decided were the overall instruments and elements that we wanted to use. We tried to focus more on the anime(ish) aesthetics while still keeping the fantasy sound that people associate with this kind of game. We went with string sections and also added distorted guitars to keep a fast pace. Well, maybe it was TOO fast at first. The drums were too much and we were walking into heavy metal territory, so we toned it down by cutting some guitars and adding more percussion instead of just fast drumming. I think that decision really paid off in the end.

To make the tracks more dynamic, each map has two variations of the same core melody: one, while the dialogue is going on, is more peaceful and less intrusive.

The second, when the battle kicks in, adds the already mentioned distorted guitars, more percussion and usually amps up the speed. This keeps a cohesive feel to the songs while still making them sonically different and sets up the right mood.

Finally, for sound effects, there was a lot of head and floor banging (quite literally), effect research and foley creation. Probably my favorite part was designing the many, many skills and spells the characters have. The enemies were also pretty fun to do, even if a few here and there were quite challenging. This was mostly due to the game having some enemy variations that needed sonic differences while still keeping some sort of identity to them (such as in different hobgoblin enemies). This was a learning and rewarding experience, however.
I do hope that everyone likes what we have done and also that people enjoy playing Reverie Knights Tactics!

Hello everyone, my name is Matheus, and I'm the programmer for Reverie Knights Tactics. As the development slowly wraps up and we squash those last few remaining bugs, I thought it'd be interesting to share some of the experiences of building our game.
RKT is the first large production I was a part of, and there was a lot to learn from it.
Originally the game was planned to be a traditional turn based JRPG, similar to the earlier Final Fantasy titles, but as we were planning out the game, we thought that having it be a grid based RPG would allow us a lot more room to experiment and introduce interesting gameplay mechanics. Such a change presented a myriad of programming challenges that had to be sorted given the massive increase of gameplay complexity, but it was also a great opportunity to really expand on our production goals.
Most of these programming challenges derived from design questions that had to be answered during development as it evolved, and sometimes, things did not work out as well as we'd hoped, and we'd have to pull back and re-evaluate the implementations, which is no big surprise given the iterative process of game development.
But perhaps the biggest challenges with making a game was implementing those invisible backend systems that we take for granted, or are very simple on the surface, such as save systems, gamepad support, cinematics, and dialogues. Turns out, things get complicated and edge cases are a thing when dealing with a multitude of systems.
For cinematics and dialogues especially, the biggest struggles were to allow them the flexibility to interact and update many different facets of the game, accommodate the different requirements for the scenes we had, as well as having the different systems communicate with each other to create the sequences you will play through the game. However, as our requirements changed or expanded, and more complexity was required due to our desire to present the world, characters and story as best we could, we've reached a point where we can comfortably handle pretty much any scene we could come up with.
There is also a lot that could be said about the design of the combat itself, but perhaps that is something for another time. I would like to thank you for taking the time to read this write up, and I hope you enjoy our game. It's been an amazing journey, and it feels strange to be reaching its end, at least for the time being.

We have several amazing animators from Hype Animation working with us on the game and since character animation is such a big part of its unique esthetic, in this installment of our Dev Diary series, we wanted to share a few words and insights from them.
Animating the characters for the Reverie Knights Tatics game was both challenging and fun. Challenge, because here at Hype Animation we hadn't worked with animation for games yet and we needed to understand the process and practically relearn some animation concepts. The fun was in the opportunity to work with a franchise based on the fictional universe of comics, books and RPGS known as Tormenta. Despite this, all this fun has had an air of challenge, as the franchise has a considerable fan base here in Brazil, and our work has to respect the lore of the universe of Tormenta; at the same time, it needed to bring innovation and of course, some surprises.
In the beginning, we had the idea of making the game's animations in 2D, this meant, using the traditional technique, with each frame drawn by hand on a two-dimensional support. But due to the lack of 2D animators on the market, we realized that this more traditional approach would be impractical. We then opted for the 3D animation process, modeling and animating the characters with the help of three-dimensional animation software. After the animation stage, each frame of the character would go through a post-production process that would leave it with a visual aspect similar to a traditional 2D animation, with a strong influence on the oriental features of anime animations.
We had total freedom to create the movements mixing exciting actions with humorous ones, trying to surprise and amuse the player, but without overshadowing the epic tone of the narrative. Because this is a tactical game, with characters movements separated by turns, we were able to extend the duration of the animations, (since the gameplay does not demand an immediate response to the actions, as in a beat'em up game, for example). Thanks to this, the actions could be more elaborate, and it was possible to add small narratives to the actions, contributing to the cohesion of the game's universe. We use humor mainly in the Brigandine character, but many of the enemies also have humorous moves occasionally, like the Doglin's flaming attack, or the Bugbear who, when successfully blocking an attack, laughs at the heroes' ineptitude.
Other moves such as team attacks are intended to show the strength of heroes in an epic and exciting way and were challenging because they demanded an integrated and coordinated movement between two or more characters.
The team of Brazilian animators made a great effort to bring this dynamic to the actions of the game, working on the fluidity of actions and acting, showing that they are at a high level of technical quality and professionalism, compatible with the demands and quality expected by the international audience. I really hope you enjoy and have fun playing Reverie Knights Tactics as much as we had fun animating it!

Hello everyone, this is EdH Mller, director, producer, and the illustrator of the game.
One of the cool aspects of Reverie Knights Tactics is all about taking the time to look at the scenarios and characters artworks, which were all hand-drawn. Nearly 400 sheets of paper were necessary to cover the entire game, and I did every single drawing with a mechanical pencil, using HB leads.
I`ve been working with illustration for over 20 years now, on comics, advertising, CD covers, Package Designs for bands, drinks, anything that needs some good drawings on it, and of course, games! Working over Reverie Knights Tactics was delightful, considering it was one the best experiences I had in the field up until today.
Drawing scenarios was the most challenging part of doing this game, specially because of the high number of details each of them have, and, as you players might have noticed, the multi-layers they also have. Hours and hours sitting on my drawing table during weekdays and many, many weekends... my wife and my cats didnt like the idea so much, but it was worth it. :) Not to forget, I had three amazing helpers during this trip: Marcel Budde and Leonardo Tomazi, which their work was to help me out with sketches for the scenario assets, along with Carolina Mylius, color artist who did the amazing color work over my drawings.
As for the characters, it was great to create new characters for the Tormenta universe, which is really popular in Brazil. I took a lot of time figuring silhouettes out, along with distinctive characteristics to make them unique.

Hello everyone! My name is EdH Mller, and I`m the producer, director and illustrator of Reverie Knights Tactics, and on behalf of the whole team, thanks for checking our game out! For now on, were gonna make use of this space to talk a little about the game development, so stay tuned!
Our journey developing it started in 2017, and now here we are, showcasing our baby to the world. Its a special occasion for all of us, specially because of all the hard work we had through those years. Heres some cool facts about the game:
40 Giants Entertainment is an indie company from the south of Brazil, and we did start it out with only two persons working on the game, a programmer and me as unique artist. As time passed by, more people came to contribute to it, and we where needed to buy more chairs. :) We did the production, direction, programming, game and level design, script, 2D art... a lot of work. And a lot of love too.
Maybe a few of you people dont know, but the game is based on a famous brazilian RPG universe called Tormenta, published by Jamb Editora, which its been around since 1999. Though the years it spammed through the launch of comic books, tabletop RPGs, audio books, novels, and since 2015, videogames. Reverie Knights Tactics is the first release of the Tormenta universe worldwide, regarding videogames!
Have you seen the awesome animations in the game? Well, Hype Animation, which already did works for Disney and Nickelodeon are the ones responsible for everything that moves, attacks and bark. Working with them was awesome, specially when they came out with some out-of-the-box ideas, like a dog peeing fire on your characters. Wicked!
Music and Audio Design was fully done by Yo-Ho Musik Arsenal, which already done stuff for Netflix and many other cool games. Check every melody and youll know they are great!
Bad Minions game studio helped us out with porting the game to consoles, thank you so much, guys!
And, wed like to give a special THANK YOU for 1C Publishing, for helping us on putting this project out. The team behind the publishing side is incredible, and we are more than pleased for the attention all you guys gave us.
