We are back with the Beta Client to test the upcoming NW.js 0.13 version. Build is using NW.js 0.13 beta 2. If the build is running stable we will push the update to the stable version within this month. Hopefully this means a more stable Shadows of War with fewer bugs, especially on Linux. The big changes are mostly under-the-hood and you probably wont notice them, but they are huge and will improve the game experience massively in the long run. We will update this announcement with updates to the beta version. Next on we will begin to reinclude achievements and fix reported bugs.

This will probably be the only time we will report on an beta client update as an announcement, but we just wanted to share som important news. The beta client has made what it was supposed to do; Test out experimental fixes that actually worked as users reported the last game-breaking bug to be fixed. From here on out the route is pretty much straight forward again. Sadly we have to do a compromise as this fix forces us to update NW.js which breaks Greenworks (Achievements/Overlay) support. We decided as we are pretty sure Greenworks will be fixed at some point, that in the next stable update this month (If the last beta client update goes smooth) we will update NW.js so the Overlay and Achievements will not be available normally. However we will upload a 1.9.2 version with Overlay and Achievement support as an extra branch for those that wants Achievements / Overlay. Wo do it like this because we feel like a working game is more worth than a partially working game with achievements, that's why we will roll this fix (Which only affects a portion of people as only some experienced that bug) out for all SoW players as a Stable update. As a sneak preview we include the pre-patch notes for 1.9.2 here:
As we push forward and want to keep delivering updates to continually fix the problems people are experiencing, we are launching a beta client. We want to try to get more feedback based on that and want to be able to beta test our upcoming patches to decrease bugs in the Stable builds. In the current beta we want to test NW.JS 0.12 - to see how it affects performance and some other known bugs, we had to disable achievements and Steam features for it to work. The beta is only available on Windows.
This patch took a bit longer to complete due to its size of changes. It features big changes that may not look like much in the beginning but change alot in the end. The whole Physics engine used has been switched out with another, and a new storage method for stats and campaign progress is used. Sadly this has the effect that previous saved stats and progress are not compatible. We also decided to make use of a new way of labelling patch number, the second value (in this case 9) represents the months since SoW launched. and the third value (in this case 1) represents the patch number of this month. This means that the next patch this month would be labelled 1.9.2 and next month would be 1.10. Also a bug that made the game freeze in loading screen should be fixed, but since we couldn't reproduce it properly and we only suspect it to be fixed we didn't include it in the patch notes, please report whether it is fixed or not. Now for the part that you all waited for, the patch notes:
Sadly no NW.js update just yet, but we thought instead of holding back the fixes until the new NW.js version is released, we should publish the fixes now and on a later date then update NW.js instead of holding back some important fixes.
As some of you haveve seen there has been quite a few updates to SoW. They were WiP builds that's why they gave an error when trying to launch them. However, now the correct update 1.8.4 is out, just quickly changing a bit and improving the Physics engine. If this patch fixes what it should, it will take a bit before the next patch comes out, that however should improve the "laggy" scrolling and some other things people may have problems with, as the next update will update NodeWebkit 0.11.6 to NW.js 0.12.0 It's going to be a major maintenance update.
This is just a quick maintenance update to improve some things.
We figured out it would be a good idea to have a tutorial to teach the basics of the game. So this update will include a tutorial together with a new achievement. As always we appreciate all feedback and hope to improve SoW even further.
