Greetings Mayors!
Today we'd like to share our latest and rather unusual story about the development of our upcoming game - Kapital: Sparks of Revolution.
For those who dont know me, my name is Andrey, I am the game designer for Kapital: Sparks of Revolution and the head of the Lapovich Team. I remember last Saturday in August... the weather was good, and the sun was shining brightly, so I could not resist a short riding on my scooter in the park. Still, much work had to be done to finalize our new big project before the launch. There were only few weeks before the planned release... but the fresh air and half an hour riding my scooter was a recipe for success and good mood until the evening.
I was riding my scooter, enjoying the weather, and suddenly a dog jumped out in front of me. Long story short, I ended up in the hospital with a fractured shoulder a "surprise" I did not expect.
Doctors told me that the fracture was complex, and I had to undergo an operation in the next few days, which means that I will not be able to work on the game for a while and it will be impossible to release the project in good shape on time. If we postpone the release for 3-4 weeks it would not be the best plan and not a good idea for an indie game to be released during a period when many AAA games are planned to launch. Also many seasonal Sales on Steam will start at the end of October and will go right up to February 2022. So we had to come up with a new plan and make sure that our idea of how we imagine the game to be will remain intact despite the change.
And what an idea it was! Create the first city-building simulator about class struggle! A divided society, an economic crisis, crowds of disaffected people demanding a better life... Street protests escalate into riots, the poor folks robbing shops and destroying estates, epic story, and conspiracy... Which side will you take, and how far will you go in suppressing the dissent?
At this crisis moment, we sit down with our publisher, 1C Entertainment, who offered us additional help and a new plan to support the project. We created a list of new features that should reveal the class struggle in all its glory. We will add mayhem, hostage-taking, warehouse robberies, factory accidents, mass poisonings, and other accidents! So, each playthrough in our city will be unique and not like the previous ones.
And now, a month and a half after the events described, the situation looks completely different. And we work hard to implement new features in our game. The release is now planned for Spring next year, so we have some additional time to add the new content and polish the game based on the community feedback.
In the meantime, you can watch the new trailer:

The fight continues! The revolution awaits its heroes! Add Kapital to your wishlist!
P.S. By the way, I havent stopped loving scooters, and I will resume my lovely trips in the future.

Kapital: Sparks of Revolution is a sandbox city-builder focused on society management. It is a game about crisis and permanent conflict in human society. You will run out of vital resources in times you need them the most. People will protest and riot despite your best efforts to help them. Not everyone will survive.
You’ll have to run a city with limited resources. To balance between people's needs and city development. To deal with angry crowds on the streets. You are the one to shape the future of your people. Just remember - there is no way to make everyone happy.
The population of your city consists of 3 classes: nobles, bourgeois and workers. Each class has a unique role in the city economy. Nobles serve as officials and policemen, bourgeois pay taxes while workers provide the labor force. Their vision of the future is very different and they are ready to fight for it.
Running the city is not an easy task. Your resources are limited while people’s demands are high. You have to decide who will get food and shelter first. Be prepared to face new threats on a regular basis. Epidemics, accidents, sabotages, hostage situations - the city will fall apart unless you make a difference.
People whose needs go unsatisfied will hold a grudge against your rule. Some of them will become dissidents and radicals. They will form secret societies to overthrow you. Protests on the streets will turn into massacres and riots. You have to make a tough choice of which class to support and which to suppress.
You will research new technologies and adopt new laws to improve the lives of your citizens. You will fight crime, tackle corruption and maintain order on the streets. As a ruler of the city, you have the ultimate power to shape the future of your society. The question is how far will you go to reach that goal?
