Evil has been vanquished. Peace has returned to Ancardia, and the peasants dare to dream once more of prosperity. Seven very different factions vie for control over the cataclysmic aftermath left behind by Andor Drakons defeat. And somewhere, deep down in an inhospitable cave, chaos is stirring again. Pick up your blade, prepare your spells, check your daggers and ready your bow, for you are about to enter the ominous Caverns of Chaos. Choose your allegiance carefully, for you are nothing more than an expendable asset to the masters you choose.
Fight for a mercenary's glory and a hefty coin purse, for the justice of a community in decline, for the light of purity, or even for chaos itself. Every choice you make will determine how you approach the ever-changing Caverns of Chaos laid out before you.
To be the person who originated a game with an active and dedicated community since 1994 makes me unbelievably proud," said Thomas Biskup, Creator of ADOM. "After 25 years we will continue the story of ADOM and bring that experience into the modern realm. Ultimate ADOM: Caverns of Chaos offers plenty of depth for seasoned vets of the genre but with all the tweaks, options, and quality of life adjustments that ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for the contemporary player.
Hi everyone! Just another quick note about the ADOM pen & paper RPG Kickstarter currently running its final 42 hours at https://www.adom.de/rpg-kickstarter:
Hi everyone! Though it's a minor release for Steam we are proud to announce the availability of ADOM 3.3.3 on Steam: https://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2019/01/big-release-day-adom-333-has-been.html (and please forgive us the temporary extra click to skip the screen pointing to our ADOM RPG Kickstarter - but small indie companies need all the attention they can get and we love your support and value your feedback!) Thomas Biskup ADOM Maintainer
Hi everyone! Today I have an ADOM-related announcement! ADOM is branching out into new media: Our Kickstarter campaign for the ADOM pen & paper roleplaying game now is live: https://www.adom.de/rpg-kickstarter You can find more information about the RPG athttps://www.adom-rpg.com(and take time to look at our beautiful samples athttps://www.adom-rpg.com/samples- I'm really excited about the look of the game). This is really exciting for the current ADOM game, too, for several reasons (besides broadening the audience):
Ho ho ho! Shortly before Christmas we decided to release ADOM 3.3.2 to Steam. This celebrates our 100th ADOM release (in 27 years) - a kind of special moment. Nonetheless ADOM 3.3.2 mostly is a bug fix release again improving the stability, performance and usability of ADOM. You can find all the details in this blog post: https://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2018/12/celebrating-100th-adom-release-ever.html Additionally we soon will have something awesome related to ADOM to announce. Stay tuned for another update in the very near future! Kind regards Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! Our beta release of ADOM 3.3.1 proved stable enough to be turned into a general public release. It now automatically updates for everyone at Steam. Brief release note here: https://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2018/10/adom-331-now-turned-into-public-release.html Happy hacking! Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! We are proud to announce the release of ADOM 3.3.1 fixing some important bugs. Please read our announcement closely if you are a MacOS Mojave user as there is a problem with Mojave that we currently can't quite fix (waiting for another library). There is an easy workaround though. Here you can find the full announcement: https://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2018/09/announcing-adom-331-as-steam-beta.html And now have fun playing! Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! After a longer pause we are proud to announce the release of ADOM 3.3.0 as a Steam beta version. You can find all the details about the release in this blog post: https://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2018/09/announcing-adom-330-as-steam-beta.html To activate the beta follow these instructions: https://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/p/adom-beta-steam.html The biggest new feature is the "floating text" UI enhancement. Important messages now pop up in shortened form over the PC and float upwards (e.g. damage, poisoning, critical hits, items found and many more). This really adds a whole new level of comfort to the game as the text messages become far less important and you are much less likely to miss something important. Besides this there are some critical bug fixes (related to multi-turn actions, the volcano quest), another round of buffing for boss monsters and dozens of minor bug fixes and enhancements. Please test the beta and let us know what you think as we want to proceed to a general release as soon as possible. Bug reports and requests for enhancement should be submitted at https://www.adom.de/bugs as usual. And now enjoy playing this new release! Thomas Biskuo & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! After we skipped the announcement for ADOM 3.2.1 (because it contained only cosmetical bug fixes) we just released ADOM 3.2.2 as the latest public version. ADOM 3.2.x thus leaves the beta status and we hereby declare it stable. ADOM 3.2.2 again doesn't offer any major content updates - but we had to adjust it to the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which takes full effect on the 25th of May. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Data_Protection_Regulation for the dirty details. It took us lots of effort to take everything into account and your data won't be any safer despite all the work because we always cared for your data and didn't abuse it in any evil way. But now there's a lot more documentation and legal text. The most important game-related change is that - if you registered for our global highscore server at http://www.rogueleague.org (which we highly recommend and which soon will be getting a boost) - you will once more have to read and accept the terms of use. You also can choose to decline them but the you no longer will be allowed to upload your highscores to the global highscore. The release cycle for this release has been filled with extremely boring and brain-numbing work because GDPR - despite its good intentions - is a nightmare of cluttered, chaotic and not very well-thought out bureacratic heap of regulation. But so be it. We now are compliant and finally can move forward creating real value. Unless the next stupid EU regulation destroys productivity. As you can see I am a bit pissed off about this monstrosity. Please continue enjoying ADOM and sorry once more for not having new content to offer - we spent so many hours on this abomination that there was no room for content. The next release will be much better in that respect - promise! The update will be running automatically and if you still are running on the beta program, here you can find the instructions on how to turn off beta: https://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/p/adom-beta-steam.html Kind regards Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! We are proud to announce the release of ADOM 3.2.0 (release 95) as a Steam beta version. You can read the details in this blog post (as well as the instructions on how to activate it): http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2018/05/adom-320-released-as-steam-beta.html The major new feature is a high individualization level for the PC sprite depicting hair color, weapons, armor, etc. There is still a ton of detail we are going to add over time but we highly enjoy this feature already now :-) Please try it and let us know what you think. Bug reports as usually perferrably bia http://www.adom.de/bugs And now have fun playing! Thomas Biskup & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! While we are working on ADOM 3.2.0 we decided to do one more release in the 3.1.x line fixing another important crash bug related to to altars not being found when switching a level. Another (minor) bug fix relates to skill improvements on very high character levels (so it probably would not have affected 99% of all players and was only a visual problem anyways). Nonetheless ADOM 3.1.5 fixes these two problems and will be installed automatically on your system. Here you find the details: http://www.adom.de/home/changelog.html Enjoy playing! Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! We just released ADOM 3.1.4 to Steam. This became necessary due to a nasty bug we introduced in ADOM 3.1.3 which seems to have wrecked havoc upon our various screens. As all Team ADOM members are on Easter vacation we were in quite a hurry to get his fixed. I apologize for introducing this bug - that's what you get for doing a release before going on vacation (which is something that every experienced IT person knows you never should do - but I didn't want to keep you waiting for another two weeks and thus pushed my colleagues). Sorry for that and all the inconveniences once more. ADOM 3.1.4 should fix that problem. It contains no other changes. If for some reason there is yet another critical problem please message me directly on Twitter at my @adom_dev handle - that's the best way to get me during the vacation. ADOM 3.1.4 will download automatically on Steam and you should be able to enjoy your games once more. Happy Easter & all the best! Thomas Biskup & Team ADOM

Hi everyone! Again quickly on the heels of our 3.1.1 beta release follows the ADOM 3.1.2 beta release. If you already are using the beta branch, it will be updated automatically. Otherwise you should follow the instructions in http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/p/adom-beta-steam.html should you want to test it. ADOM 3.1.2 again fixes a number of important bugs in the last release and fine tunes some other game aspects. You can find the full announcement here: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2018/03/adom-312-available-as-steam-beta.html I expect probably one more beta release before the 3.1.x ADOM branch will become the stable standard for Steam. And now: happy hacking! Thomas & Team ADOM P.S.: Our newborn daughter still is taking a toll on my concentration skill - I announced ADOM 3.1.2 everywhere but here. *Sigh*

Otherwise you should follow the instructions in http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/p/adom-beta-steam.html should you want to test it. Hi everyone! Starting now you can try out ADOM 3.1.0 as a beta version here on Steam. ADOM 3.1.0 comes with a greatly revised talent system that should make talent choices a lot more interesting (and hard due to more competing & compelling abilities). Additionally we have revised the internal trap mechanisms to lower instant death situations and replace them with more exciting challenges. And there is an extensive list of minor enhancements and bug fixes, fully available here: http://www.adom.de/home/changelog.html This link explains how to activate the beta version: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/p/adom-beta-steam.html The following blog post contains all the details about the changes in 3.1.0 beta: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2018/02/adom-310-available-as-steam-beta-and.html Please note that 3.1.0 still is beta - their might be bugs or other problems. Only try it if you feel adventurous! So far no serious bugs have been reported so we feel pretty good about the release. As soon as we have ironed out any remaining oversights we will release this as a general public version (without the beta status). The next major release after this one finally will tackle customized PC sprites showing your equipped items, etc. In our internal version this already is working quite decently but we need to work out some more kinks before we can release ADOM 3.2.0 with this exciting feature. Stay tuned and have fun in the meantime! Thomas Biskup & Team ADOM
A Happy New Year to everyone! May 2018 become your best year ever full of health, love, happiness and success! Oh, and we just released ADOM 3.0.6 most importantly fixing a minor bug with challenge mode: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2018/01/happy-new-year-and-adom-306-on-steam.html The update will be installed automatically. Enjoy! Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! One day before Christmas we are very proud to release ADOM 3.0.5 to the general Steam public. ADOM 3.0.5 is the culmination of the crowdfunding campaign started in 2012 (http://www.indiegogo.com/resurrect-adom-development). ADOM 3.0.5 consists of a spectacular set of features including:
Hi everyone! We are very close now to a general public release: You already can try out ADOM 3.0.5 as a public Steam beta. Here you can find a description about how to activate it: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/p/adom-beta-steam.html ADOM 3.0.5 is a _huge_ update compared to the last Steam release 2.3.8. It contains a significant amount of new content, the most important features being:
Hi everyone! Thanks to your awesome support we managed to get into the top 100 for Indie game of the year 2017. Hi everyone! If you want to support ADOM please nominate us for the Steam awards - just follow the purple links on the store page at http://store.steampowered.com/app/333300/ADOM_Ancient_Domains_Of_Mystery/ We'd prefer the labour of love category but naturally you are free to do whatever you like :-) In the meantime there is a short update (with this call for action plus some more brief details on the global highscore server plus the new statistics module for ADOM) at http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/11/nominate-adom-for-steam-awards-update.html So if you like the idea of global highscores or detailed player statistics, all this soon is coming to Steam. You want to use the current sale to get into ADOM if you haven't done yet ;-) Thanks Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! I just returned from Roguelike Celebration 2017 in San Francisco - an all out awesome event (Steam doesn't let me post the link - it's https :// roguelike . club)! I recommend you go there next year, too :-) ! It's a fantastic event with great talks if you are into roguelike games or procedural generation of content! Wonderful people throughout! On Roguelike Celebration we made five (kind of big) anouncements regarding the state & future of ADOM which you can read here: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/11/five-adom-announcements-made-at.html The biggest is: Ultimate ADOM is coming end of next year - as a series of interlinked games not only with the current desktop options but for mobile devices and consoles (step by step). It will be a continuation of the ADOM storyline and offer a wide variety of play options - but as a game engine it is rebuild from the ground based on the Unity3D engine. Ultimate ADOM already has its own (currently not yet very extensive) microwebsite at http://www.adom.de/ultimate Best of all: We have been funded by an investor to work on ADOM & Ultimate ADOM for at least two years - thus continued updates of ADOM here at Steam are guaranteed, too! Additionally we have been busy moving on with our release train: By now ADOM 3.0.2 already is under prerelease test and once we have ironed out the bugs will move towards Steam. It is a very big content update - with dozens of new artifacts, items and monsters, a sizeable number of new levels and quests and much more. You can find the pointer to the release info of ADOM 3.0.2 here: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/11/five-adom-announcements-made-at.html That latter blog pause also explains a brief pause I am going to take after the frenzy of the past couple of weeks as I am getting surgery in about 90-120 minutes to have the metal removed from my left hand after I was turned part-cyborg after a dancing accident last year (http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2016/12/silence-due-to-broken-arm.html). Wish me luck as I want to be back ASAP to resume work on ADOM and now work full throttle on Ultimate ADOM. I'll be back soon - now off for the surgery! Thomas Biskup
Hi everyone! Releases have become so commonplace nowadays (wink, wink) that I totally forgot to announce the release of ADOM 2.3.8 to Steam: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/11/full-steam-release-adom-238-is-here.html It's just a minor bugfix release and automatically updates as usual. Enjoy Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! We just updated ADOM to version 2.3.7. It is a minor release that nonetheless includes some important bug fixes and improvements. The update as usual will install automatically. You can find more details in our blog announcement: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/11/full-steam-release-welcome-adom-237.html Enjoy! (and BTW - if you happen to be near San Francisco next weekend I'd love to meet you personally at the Roguelike Celebration, see https://roguelike.club for details - I'm going to have two talks there, the second of which still needs to be added to the schedule; I will have me lots of news what's going to come next with ADOM). Kind regards Thomas Biskup & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! We are very proud to announce the release of ADOM 2.3.6 as a full Steam release. Despite the rather minor version bum from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 you will find a ton of enhancements in this release - we have added 80+ refinements to the user interface alone, several races and classes have been buffed, lots of bugs have been fixed, there are performance improvements, lots of additions to make ADOM even easier to play, etc. pp. You can find an extensive change log at http://www.adom.de/home/changelog.html Next steps now are
Hi everyone! I am very proud to announce the release of ADOM 2.3.5 as a Steam Beta to the general public. The process to access the ADOM 2.3.5 beta is described here: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/p/adom-beta-steam.html The general public release hopefully will follow very soon - we just want to get feedback on stability, first impressions, etc. for a couple of days before it will be launched. Note that ADOM 2.3.5 still is a beta version - there might be bugs, crashes, etc. that we didn't discover in our tests. So be prepared for a little bumpiness - experience has taught us that general public releases are very different from prerelease test releases, which in turn yield a very different experience to our local tests. ADOM 2.3.5 is the culmination of more than a year of development (one year and one day exactly today - our last release was ADOM 2.2.6 on October, 16th, 2016). ADOM 2.3.5 contains tons of new stuff. I just want to give you a few highlights:
Hi everyone! Quick update: We are coming closer to the next (and then much faster) Steam release. As an intermediate milestone we just released ADOM 2.3.0 (ASCII only) to our prerelease testers. All details can be found here: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/09/adom-230-r73-released-to-prerelease.html Next are - bug fixing - completing the graphical enhancements - graphical test release - Steam beta release - Steam release Things are going to get a lot faster now. Thanks for your patience - take a quick look at the changelog at http://www.adom.de/home/changelog.html and start feeling good about what is coming soon. Simplification of the graphical UI/UX has been a huge topic and I really believe that the next Steam version is going to be spectacular! Kind regards Thomas Biskup & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! I'd like to give a quick update on current activities: We are moving forward with development but the number of loose ends is still staggering. We are very close now to an ASCII test release and hopefully also will be able to do a Steam beta shortly afterwards. These blog posts point to a few of the new features: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/08/physical-crowdfunding-rewards-revised.html mentioning - the new HUD prototype - big improvements on scaling ADOM for various resolutions - the revised talent screen http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/08/quick-hints-quest-dialogs.html mentioning - a new quick hint system that greatly simplifies learning the key commands - the revised quest system with much better messages and statusses - improved mouse handling http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/08/most-bigly-adom-news-update-in-long.html mentioning - the revision of point-based character generation - changes to question-based attribute generation - the new configuration screens for ADOM - many details on the physical rewards from the crowdfunding campaign Lots of work also happened on physical rewards for people who donated during the crowdfunding campaign. Some details can be found here: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/08/physical-crowdfunding-rewards-revised.html Additionally the _final_ roll call for submitting your addresses for physical shipments is up: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/08/final-roll-call-physical-adom.html Act now! That's it for today. Stay tuned - I hope that the next announcement will be the Steam beta ;-) Thomas Biskup & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! As point-based character generation has been a hot topic of much frustration I today started working on improvements. I would love to hear your thoughts on my analysis specifically on the effects of character backgrounds on attribute scores (but naturally also other ideas although on the latter there already has been so much discussion ;-) Read all here: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/07/point-based-character-generation-and.html Thanks Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! After being a bit spammy last week I'm trying to keep it to weekly updates here. The past week again saw a lot of work on improving the UI and starting two days ago I'm now playing my own game mouse-only (although I love the keyboard controls) in order to learn more about what actually is missing for a great mouse-based UI. Soon we'll also run more supervised test games with ADOM newbies to learn more about what works and what doesn't in the UI. This blog post summarizes the latest advances: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/07/a-week-of-work-on-adom-ui.html If you have more wishes or ideas regarding improvements for the UI/UX please submit them _now_ at http://www.adom.de/bugs - it's the perfect time as we really want to improve on this for the next release. Thanks & stay tuned for the next update! Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! I hope this series of announcements doesn't feel like spamming but I am very proud of the progress that we right now make and as long as every day brings an (IMHO) major new enhancements I'd like to keep you all informed (as a compensation for too much silence in the past). One complaint with ADOM currently (and rightfully) is that talking to monsters and NPCs is not much fun as you easily can miss the texts uttered by them. Thus I proudly present "communication bubbles" that were implemented today to display utterances by monsters and NPCs in a beautiful way. Being an ASCII artist I for now only can show the ASCII version but here we go: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/06/communication-bubbles-in-adom.html Let me know what you think - I'm really looking forward to the next release and now hope that my compatriots can catch up fast enough with the graphical repesentations for the ASCII visualizations. Stay tuned! Thomas Biskup & Team ADOM
Greetings! As part of our UI enhancement quest we just finished the ASCII implementation of a new dialog widget system for ADOM (the graphical counterpart takes a bit longer bit is upcoming, too). The following blog post has a demo illustrating the new dialog widgets: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/06/new-dialog-widgets-in-adom.html This in the future will make it much simpler to recognize input requests from the game and display detail information. Stay tuned for the next release! Thomas Biskup & Team ADOM
Hi everone! And just to show you that we are very serious this time (after a long sequence of frustrating events): Just after yesterdays demo for the new look mode in the next ADOM release (http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/06/look-better-in-adom.html) we today have a demo for a new direction selection dialog: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/06/better-direction-selection-in-adom.html More to come... and yes, I know it's only ASCII so far - the graphical stuff needs more work and I need my colleagues from Team ADOM for that... I can only do gameplay and ASCII stuff ;-) Thomas Biskup ADOM Maintainer
Hi everyone! It has been an awful long time since the last update but things are returning to normal (or rather: better than normal - expect a pretty exciting announcement probably within the next six weeks). Lots of work has happened behind the scenes by my team colleagues and I took longer to recover than I expected from my broken arm/wrist/hand (see older posts) but finally we again are moving forward and working towards new releases. We have been focussing on several areas and the next release will bring a number of pretty fun features and changes (besides the usual batch of bug fixes and minor improvements). With me being fully back in the saddle and our GIT infrastructure finally in full motion I hope that we also will be able to switch to much faster release cycles (especially as far as bug fixes go). Below you will find main areas of work of the past months: Art Krys is extremely busy on animating the PC and all our monsters. This actually is pretty tedious work considering that we are switching from still images to animated parts but the results are nothing but wonderful. ADOM feels a lot more alive now and some of the animations are incredibly funny and fascinating. The following blog posts provide various sneak previews: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/05/advanced-adom-animations.html http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/05/sharks-in-adom.html http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/04/a-glowing-example.html http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/03/animation-and-line-of-sight-live.html The animation system also finally will simplify enhancing the player character as outlined in http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/05/customizable-player-character.html Sound Lucas has been very busy over the past couple of months adding both sound effects and musical scores leading to an ever expanding sound library. Here's one blog pertaining to that (and other refinements of graphical nature): http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/03/ever-expanding-soundscape-where-no.html Gameplay Besides working on a pretty big package of new features a major part of the next Steam release will be an even more simplified UI with much more focus on a more intuitive mouse interface and generally better interaction between the player and the game. We have been doing field tests with new players (and are continuing to do so) and defined a batch of issues to address for that release, as outlined here: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/06/simplifying-adom-ui.html For ASCII mode you can see one example for the look mode of ADOM here: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/06/look-better-in-adom.html Very soon this will be integrated into the graphical mode and I hope for true tooltips so that in the future you don't even need to know how to activate look mode but rather just can hover over the map to get more detailed information about specific spots. Another example for such improvements is the long requested standardized handling of the ESC key (e.g. showing a popup with the most important commands like saving and quitting). The full list of issues to be addressed (still growing) is listed here: http://www.adom.de/forums/projectmilestone.php?milestoneid=8 Organization Our team organization behind the scenes currently is improving greatly but I can't yet explain the details. Sadly I can't even explains the reasons for not being able to explain that - but some of the most recent delays have been caused by re-organizing. It's worth the wait and very soon I can speak... stay tuned. All in all I am happy to be back to much more time to work on ADOM and we'll focus on releasing ASAP. See you soon Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! I keep forgetting that not everyone is reading the blog. My health has taken a hit due to a pretty serious hand/arm fracture (which basically prevents me from programming). You can find the details here: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2017/01/broken-arm-update.html I'll post updates when things will improve. I also can do a foreshadowing comment about "big things being set in motion". But I'm only going to announce that when I'm back in the saddle (I expect March or April). And no, this is neither an excuse or a diversion for yet another delay ;-) I promise you will not be disappointed ;-) Kind regards Thomas
Hi everyone! Although this announcement is only indirectly related to the Steam version of ADOM I thought it worthwhile to post it nonetheless because I hope that it illustrates our long-term commitment to evolving the game. Part of the crowdfunding campaign that brought ADOM back to the stage was the promise to print a pen & paper RPG version. Last night me and my awesome team of packing djinnis assembled the very huge first batch of RPG shipments which are going to leave my home in about two hours. You can read the details in our latest blog post: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2016/12/adom-lite-rpg-is-shipping-today-yeah.html As far as I know there are very few games on Steam with a pen & paper RPG to boot (and none of the small titles as far as I know) so I thought it worthwhile to mention. Additionally I would love to point you to another awesome crowdfunding campaign for an exciting roguelike game with beautiful graphics and an amazing UI. Right now the Jupiter Hell Kickstarter is still running and the team around Kornel and Darren can need a helping hand to reach their funding goal. Check it out - I think it's awesome and I know that the team is nothing but brilliant: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2020043306/jupiter-hell-a-modern-turn-based-sci-fi-roguelike I already backed it and there is a Steam Greenlight process running for it, too: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=804488499 I'm now back to work - the next digital ADOM release now needs to be done - and it's going to be awesome :-) See ya! Hi everyone! We'd like to motivate you to give us a vote in the currently running Steam awards nominations (http://store.steampowered.com/SteamAwardNominations/). We feel that ADOM particularly deserves to be nominated in the "Stood the test of time" category as according to our knowledge there are very few (any?) games on Steam that can look back to a 20+ year history and still are in active evolution. While we know that there are still many UI wishes we feel that we have made some good progress and by now sport enticing graphics combined with incredible game play and replay value). So if you feel you want to agree just click on the Steam award links on our store page and give us a helping hand: http://store.steampowered.com/app/333300 While we are working on the shipment of various physical crowdfunding rewards (ADOM Lite RPG & postcards) and will have those finally out within the coming days we also have turned ADOM r72 (version 2.2.6) from Beta to public release so that everyone now automatically gets to play this release (actually this happened under the hood a while ago ;-) ). Just to let you know. Additionally we are working on a very major content update that will feature greatly enhanced graphics (we are starting to animate all beings in the game) and tons of new content (rechargeable items, a time trip, the legendary Rolf and volcano quests, dozens of completely new items and monsters among them antediluvian orcs and dwarves and so much more). Due to the extensive size of this update we'll still be busy for a moment. In the meantime enjoy ADOM and if you have not yet bought it enjoy the 10% winter sale! Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! We are very proud to announce the release of ADOM R72 (version 2.2.6), again as a Steam beta (but available for anyone who owns the Steam version). This release should bring yet another big performance boost - see the blog post at http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2016/10/adom-r72-version-226-released-as-steam.html for all the details. The short version is: ADOM R72 should be up to 1500% (!) faster on older systems and hopefully bring another 30-100% of speed increase on newer systems. The exact increase depends heavily on your setup (e.g full screen versus windowed, graphics cards, etc.), so don't get overexcited ;-) Nonetheless we believe that this is yet another big step forward. Please let us know what you think (you find the installation instructions in the blog post linked above). Kind regards Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! Jochen just released ADOM R71 as a Steam beta. You can find all th details here as well as the instructions for activating the beta: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2016/10/adom-r71-version-225-released-as-steam.html Enjoy playing and let us know your impressions! Thomas Biskup & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! So far we have received nothing but positive feedback regarding our performance improvements in R70. In many cases the new version seems to triple the available framerate. Thus we have decided to upgrade R70 from Steam beta status to public status so that you all automatically will receive the update. If you activated the beta version please turn the property settings back to the default so that you also receive future updates. This blog entry detailed the changes in R70: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2016/09/adom-r70-released-as-steam-beta.html Have fun playing! Thomas Biskup & Team ADOM
Hi! ADOM R70 now is available as a Steam beta (meaning that you manually need to activate it if you want to try it - see below). The biggest and most important change is a new internal cache mechanism that should greatly enhance the graphical performance of the game. Try it out and tell us about your experiences! Here you find all the (short) details: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2016/09/adom-r70-released-as-steam-beta.html Thomas Biskup & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! We are happy to announce the release of ADOM R69 (version 2.2.3) as a public Steam release. You can find all the details of the release explained here: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2016/09/adom-r69-released-to-both-steam-players.html All in all it is in itself a rather minor bugfix release with some performance improvements but combined with the features from R65, R66, R67 and R68 (which were only released as Steam beta versions) you get a pretty improved game with many new detail features and bug fixes. You can find the full changelog for those versions here: http://www.adom.de/home/changelog.html We hope that we have a very stable release with R69 and are checking right now, if we are going to do an R70 version with more graphics performance improvements (depending on results of tests we currently are doing) or continue working on the next major content release. If we manage to improve performance we'll do another small release and only then continue on tons of new content. We'll keep you updated! Happy hacking! Thomas Biskup & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! We are proud to announce the release of ADOM R68 (version 2.2.2) as a Steam beta. Originally it was intended to be a rather small update but by now it includes more than 50 bug fixes and new features. You can find all the details in this blog post: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2016/08/adom-r68-released-as-steam-beta.html And now enjoy the latest beta! Thomas Biskup & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! We are now very close to the next public Steam release of ADOM. If you already own ADOM on Steam you can play ADOM R67 even now! Find all the details in our latest blog post: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2016/08/adom-r67-version-221-released-as-steam.html Please report any problems you find. If nothing major is found we will release the general public version in the next couple of days. But to stress it: Everyone who owns ADOM on Steam can play this release right now - just follow the steps in the blog post above. And now enjoy the latest release - it took much too long but we think that it is great :-) Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! Here you can find the latest update on our various activities: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2016/07/bi-weekly-adom-update-pending-release.html We are now very close to the next release, have laid out a test release road map and I hope that at the time of the next biweekly update we also will have the stable Steam release out in the public. It's been a tasking journey but we are getting back to more speed. Stay tuned for the next news! Kind regards Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! I just published my next ADOM update (after a vacation... so it's not quite bi-weekly - I know). But as a compensation there's lots of exciting stuff going on and we now should be very close to the next release. Read all the details here: posted a new bi-weekly #ADOM update with lots of progress on new topics: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2016/07/bi-weekly-adom-update-lots-of-progress.html Kind regards Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! While we are feverishly working on the next ADOM release (R66) you can find a new update on the latest progress over at our blog: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2016/06/bi-weekly-adom-update-bug-smashing.html (and there’s finally another unboxing video for the ADOM Lite RPG) We are still busy working on graphical character generation (and the whole team will be very happy once we are finished with that), I have been fixing bugs and now am preparing for a major content update (Rolf and volcano quests being the main focus). Details in the blog post above. Stay tuned! Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! After a far too long period of too much silence I today posted the long overdue update on the status of ADOM development. http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2016/05/the-state-of-adom-long-overdue-update.html It doesn't contain the answers to all questions but is a relaunch of my activities after feeling sick for much too long. Sorry for all the silence - I know that no communication is the most stupid communication of them all. I'll try to improve in that regard. Concerning ADOM development I'm now working to get my job back on track. See the blog post for details and see the next updates. Kind regards Thomas Biskup
Hi everyone! Starting yesterday (yes, I'm late - Team ADOM right now is faster than I am ;-D ) ADOM now also sports five Steam trading cards that you can gain for playing ADOM (if you are into such things). In addition we have customized badges and emoticons. Krys has done an awesome job in creating beautiful high-res images for the cards and stuff :-) We hope you will like them - enjoy! Thomas Biskup & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! I'd just like to give a quick update about the stuff we are right now working on: In our current development version we 1. have a totally flexible and rewritten character generation process including point-based attribute distribution, star sign selection, complete configurability, re-use of previous selections and much more. After some testing and graphical enhancements it quickly will find its way into the next Steam update. 2. have some new artifacts (like the tome of donors), new map adjustments (like moving dungeon sections) and the groundwork for a revised team (crowd) mode. Soon you will be able to play ADOM as a team on Steam (hey, the Mad Minstrel seems to be active here ;-) allowing you to trade items, chat, exchange power and more. 3. are adding tons of new graphics (final female versions of all monsters concerned, e.g. no more female bearded black wizards ;-), new achievement icons and lots of detail refinements). Besides that we already have fixed a ton of details (currently about 30 issues total addressed). We intend to do a closed prerelease test to see how people like the new character generation process and then (when all the graphical work has been done, too) will provide a Steam beta version. If that works out well, too, we will ASAP release a new Steam version. Next up then: Lots of fiddling with the mouse interface, a more guided access to the background story and lots of new content! We'll keep you updated as we progress. Thomas Biskup & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! We just officially released ADOM R64 (version 2.0.3) on Steam. This is another important step forward by introducing three major additions: 1. You now can play ADOM offline. No more internet connection required. 2. You now can select star signs freely. 3. Keyboard commands have been greatly simplified. You now can play the game by memorizing the cursor key/numpad commands in addition to ENTER (for the context actions), minus ('-') for the exploration command and '?' for the online help ;-) There's a lot more fine-tuning and you can find all the details of this exciting new release at http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2015/12/adom-deluxe-r64-version-203-released-on.html And now enjoy the game ;-) Thomas Biskup & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! You now can vote for ADOM to become the Indie Game of the Year at IndieDB. Please cast your vote for us. Here's the direct link: http://www.indiedb.com/games/adom-ancient-domains-of-mystery And here's Krys' ADOM image for the vote: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2015/12/vote-for-adom-as-indie-game-of-year-at.html Thanks Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! We just released a beta version of ADOM R64 on Steam. Currently included are the following most important changes: 1. We have fixed more potential crash sources. Crashes by now seem to happen on a limited number of systems (but still have been there) - so if you are a victim of crashes please try out the beta version if you don't mind being a tester. 2. ADOM R64 should now be playable in offline mode (prior versions required internet access to be played). 3. The "explore unknown areas" command (accessible by pressing '-' (minus)) has been enhanced to truly cover all areas and also search out item stacks. 4. The "use" command (accessible by pressing 'u') has been enhanced to handle items more intelligently. Enhancements #3 and #4 are partial steps on our road to a much more simplified UI/UX. We are trying to reduce the number of keyboard commands new players will need to learn and my personal goal is to make them countable on one hand (except for the movement keys - but that should be trivial). The full list of changes can be found here: http://www.adom.de/home/changelog.html The instructions to access ADOM Beta can be found here: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/p/adom-beta-steam.html If you play the beta version and find problems please report them at http://www.adom.de/forums/project.php?projectid=2 And now have fun! Thomas Biskup & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! Just to make sure that nobody misses it: The ADOM Steam launch discount is going to be ending in less than 24 hours. If you are waiting for much larger discounts or bundling activities please don't hold your breath. It is highly unlikely that future discount phases will use greater discounts than the 10% currently offered. We are in this for the long run and intend to continue developing and expanding ADOM for years to come. Effectively this means that we will keep adding value to the game - thus much bigger discounts just do not seem reasonable. Especially as ADOM already now costs less than an evening at cinema plus coke and nachos (at least were we live ;-) ). So use the current discount if you really want to own and play ADOM - future discounts probably will not help you in getting a better price. And to make this very clear: Please do not feel pressured to buy ADOM right now. Buy it if you want it and have the money - but for no other reasons. We want happy customers & players ;-) Kind regards Thomas & Team ADOM
Hi everyone! We released ADOM R63 a couple of hours ago (I couldn't post earlier, sorry for that). ADOM R63 is the second minor bug fix release fixing two specific problems (see http://www.adom.de/home/changelog.html), the most important being that the game no longer should crash or hang under Windows in ASCII mode (especially when being left in the background or alt-tabbed). We are sorry for the inconveniences caused by this and will continue to work on not repeating such problems ever again. In the background we already have prepared everything so that volunteers will be available to participate in beta-testing the Steam version before a release to the general public. This should help identifying problems much earlier on in the future. Thanks for your patience with us and keep the suggestions coming! Thanks also to Team ADOM for working long hours trying to identify the problems and getting them fixed as quickly as humanly possible! Thomas Biskup
Hi everyone! Due to certain sad and lamentable instabilities in our ADOM R61 (2.0.0) release we decided to quickly follow up with ADOM R62 (2.0.1). For those plagued by bugs on Steam in the R61 (version 2.0.0) release we are happy to announce that - Alt-tabbing and shift-tabbing no longer should cause any problems. - There no longer should be any hangs when leaving the game unobserved in the background. - Reading spellbooks no longer should cause any NotEye problems. Right-clicking on altars no longer should cause problems. We also already fine-tuned some minor functionalities. The most important additions are: - 'u'se tool now is more intelligent: When you have no tool equipped it lets you select an item to use from your backpack (this is the first step to reduce the number of keys a new player will need to know - the second step with the next release will be to allow many uses, e.g. eating, drinking, etc. directly). - The 'explore unknown areas' command (w?) now also is bound to '-' (minus) to make it much more accessible. I already have become addicted and also have noticed a couple of areas where it should be made more intelligent (e.g. when discovering monsters and items; also something to do for the next step). - Additionally exploration mode now offers a wand of wishing with 42 wishes as people complained about our tough limit of 4. We live to please ;-) As usual you can find the list of changes here: http://www.adom.de/home/changelog.html The full blog announcement can be found here: http://www.ancientdomainsofmystery.com/2015/11/adom-r62-version-201-released-on-steam.html In case you are more happy with R62 than with R61 we also would be happy if you adjust reviews :-) Thanks and now go playing and enjoy the game!
