The Development Plan of Bio Prototype
The development of Bio Prototype began in October 2021, and after more than a year of development, it was released in December 2022, entering the EA phase that lasted until April of the following year. During the EA period, we have made 3 major gameplay updates, more than 10 content expansion updates, and more than 60 fix-oriented updates. We would like to extend our gratitude for your support and tolerance, helping us to optimize the game from a clumsy state to a playable one. Although we temporarily solved the problem of the team debt and unpaid payroll for team members in the late stage of EA. After deducting the platform share, distribution share, and taxes, our income for every copy of the game sold is less than 1 USD. After paying off what we owed, the remaining funds were just enough for 3 months of team operation. We then decided to officially release the game in April 2023 and set up an update plan based on the actual sales of the game, that is, starting Creative Workshops with 200K sets sold, and starting DLC with 300K sets sold. As the promotion provided by the platform such as spots and queues lasted for only about 2 weeks, the sales of the game dropped significantly in May 2023, and the monthly sales began to be unable to support the team's expenses. Under these circumstances, we opened up a new round of project discussions internally. Ultimately, due to years of losses and the team's strained financial situation, we had no choice but to slow down the content expansion of Bio Prototype. As of today, the actual sales of Bio Prototype have not reached 190K.
I started to run this indie studio in 2017. Yes, in the past 7 years, there has been no such thing as an instant hit or a memorable "debut", instead my pocket is filled with works that took a lot of effort but with terrible sales. Bio Prototype is the first game to sell over 10,000 copies since I started my career, and it means a lot to me, as well as to the whole team. I'm pretty sure I expect the game to get better more than anyone else. I value every player who enjoys Bio Prototype. It's no exaggeration to say that I have carefully gone through most of the discussions, live streams, videos, discord chats, and even player reviews of Bio Prototype. On many silent late nights, I organize the players' suggestions and feedback into the team's discussion documents, thinking about and looking into the future of this game. However, the sweet dream is soon woken up by reality. The reality is that it's not that perfect. I've always wanted to make a game with higher build potential and better performance. However, the architecture of Bio Prototype doesn't lend itself to more expansion in either of those areas. Please let me further explain the reasons. Firstly, its game loop is too simple, which can lead to much negative feedback for a new player after failing a 20-minute game; secondly, it has a relatively limited design space. With the update of the game version, the underlying trigger logic in the game is already saturated, and continuing with redundant cobbled-together designs will also pollute the original organ pool, making it impossible for players to make up their own preferred builds; thirdly, it needs some step to step content to guide players to learn and understand the featured organ builds gameplay. According to the achievement data from the Steam backend, only 60% of players completed Stage 1. Based on my observation in the players' live stream, probably half of the players who passed Stage 1 have not constructed a complete BD, with very many invalid Organ links. Why not think outside the design framework of Bio Prototype to make the builds a little richer? After many discussions with players and my team members, I planted a seed in my heart and hoped the seed would take root and grow not just into a tree, but a forest. Maybe shortly, we will dig up more interesting things in that forest, and bring a broader stage for Bio Prototype Imagine you could have the traits of multiple characters from Bio Prototype 1 at one time, you could modify your organs, you could challenge Bosses and Elites with deadly skills, and you could always use a build you love and share its blueprint with your friends. This is the prototype of Bio Prototype 2. My team members were energized by all these thoughts. We began development of Bio Prototype 2 with the core of Bio Prototype.
During the development of the new game, we are very remorseful for not establishing a good communication channel to inform you of our development plans. We would like to express our deepest apologies hereby. We will do our best to create a Bio Prototype 2 with far greater content and BD richness than its predecessor, to return the trust you have placed in our studio. At the same time, in our future games, we will display the development roadmap and work progress as graphs and lists within the game, so that players can get our updates for the first time. We will also give back to our users who have supported Bio Prototype. A bundle with Bio Prototype series will be created on the official release day of Bio Prototype 2, with a special discount to players who have purchased Bio Prototype 1. We're now communicating with the publisher to make this discounted price equal to the pricing of the Bio Prototype 1.
We hope that more players who like this kind of games and enjoy Bio Prototype can get involved, share your feelings with us, and help us push the Bio Prototype series forward; we always trust the judgment of players and your understanding of the game. We will never abandon a game we developed. We just want to survive, to make more interesting and creative games. That's all. For a small team without a steady income, every favorable comment from you is our biggest spiritual wealth. If you have any ideas or feedback, feel free to contact me via Discord or bob@emprom.net. I'll read and reply to all. A small request at the end, if possible please add Bio Prototype 2 to your wishlist, making it visible to a wider audience.

Why a new game
