Your supplies are exhausted, your body bruised and broken. The path ahead is one of pain and hardships. Charon beckons you forward. Will you find your way home?
HIRAETH is an immersive single-player survival experience that challenges players to survive and explore the desolate remains of a forgotten planet. Only the strong can survive merciless AHRA PRIME.

You find yourself alone and out of resources on an forgotten planet that seems to be trying very hard to kill you. Scavenge for food and supplies as you try to piece together the mysteries of AHRA PRIME. The voice of the enigmatic Charon is your only guiding light through the seemingly endless abyss. Where will that light guide you? And what awaits you at the end of the journey?
HIRAETH features two distinct gamemode experiences that share survival mechanics.
- HIRAETH – ETERNAL offers a non-narrative, endless survival sandbox.
- HIRAETH – REVELATIONS is our story mode, with each chapter unveiling a greater mystery. Both will test your survival skills, however, REVELATIONS also features moral decisions with outcomes that significantly affect the world.

Offers an endless, pickup and play sandbox, ending only with the player’s death. Eternal mode will challenge you to survive utilizing your skill and cunning. As you complete challenges, you will be rewarded with skills that assist on future playthroughs. In-game notes can be found, offering lore and additional tips. Tasks can also be completed, such as repairing installations and accessing databases, that aid in your survival.While exploring the endless horizon, you will discover environmental storytelling, hidden secrets, and unimaginable dangers.

A fully crafted narrative experience that unfolds over chapters. Awakening on AHRA PRIME, a delirious survivor attempts to uncover the truth. Guided by a mysterious figure, Charon, the survivor must explore the remnants of the colony, delve into labyrinthine caverns, and survive the planet’s harsh conditions. How far will they go in the pursuit of truth?CHAPTER ONE: DENIAL

DENIAL is the first of many chapters in the Revelations. An amnesiac awakens to find the horrors of AHRA PRIME. With the colony in ruin and the settlers seemingly gone, the survivor must brave the harsh planet’s surface in their pursuit of survival. Charon, an enigmatic figure, will guide them.

EXPLORATION

AHRA PRIME features a diverse landscape, including mountains, coastlines, and canyons. In order to survive, you must traverse the hellish landscape, collecting resources and scavenging for supplies. Deserted Outposts and dilapidated bases act as markers, helping you navigate the seamless open world. As you complete survival challenges, you can earn perks that will assist in future runs.

PERMADEATH

When you die in HIRAETH – ETERNAL, survival free mode, your save and progress is reset. The wrong choice might cost you everything. The mode will also feature difficulty settings, so that each player can tailor the challenges to their liking.
SURVIVAL

HIRAETH features custom, in-depth survival systems. As you explore and fight, you must manage your oxygen levels, thirst, hunger, and negative ailments. Without vital supplies, nourishment, and rest, you will not survive the planet’s harsh conditions.
RICH STORY

Play through a rich storyline as you explore the world while trying to learn the fate of those who came before you. The full story will be released in chapters with the first chapter available upon release.
LIMINAL SPACES

You must traverse the world of AHRA PRIME for life-saving food and gear items, while avoiding the dangerous predators and environmental hazards. Outposts can act like temporary shelters, but when your supplies are exhausted, you must travel onward. Cowards will starve and the brave will become prey. Which are you?
CRAFTING

HIRAETH features a deep, robust crafting system that must be mastered in order to survive. As you find schematics and recipes scattered across the world, you’ll be able to craft items, food, supplies, and weapons.
Tools, workshops, and recycling stations will assist you, as will portable tool sets. Some tasks can be performed by hand, while more complex recipes require specialized machinery, such as a 3D printer.
FULL BODY AWARENESS

For better immersion, we have introduced a full body awareness system. When looking in first person, you will see your character's movements, clothing, equipment, and held items. This will also allow you to determine an item's condition, for items and weapons deteriorate with use.
EVA SUITS

The EVA suit is your lifeline and only means of surviving the deadly environment of AHRA PRIME. As you explore you will come across different suit types such as pilot suits designed for faster traversal or heavy suits built for greater protection. You can also customize your chosen suit with upgrade modules that add additional functionality and further enhance the suit’s unique characteristics.
UPGRADING

Upgrading your tools and equipment will allow you to survive longer and explore further. Shelters can also be repaired and upgraded. Doing so can increase the efficiency of its workstations or unlock entirely new systems.
PROGRESSIVE SKILLS
HIRAETH is not a typical RPG, but everyone learns something all the time. As you gain experience, you acquire different skills. Some will help you survive, others will speed up your work, and others will enable you to perform more complex activities.After achieving some of them, you will receive them permanently, which will make it easier for you to try again - because you definitely won't end up with just one!
UNLOCKABLES
In each playthrough, after achieving certain goals, you can earn permanent Perks that will make tasks easier in the next playthrough. From the acquired ones, you will be able to choose which ones you want to use and later increase the number you can bring with you.The simplest example would be to increase your stamina after walking a certain distance



FREE UPDATES
HIRAETH will receive free updates over time, including additional story chapters, an expanded world for the survival sandbox mode, and numerous improvements. These updates are free and accessible with the base game purchase.We will not introduce:
- paid add-ons (apart from the already available soundtrack)
- paid content, items, world expansions, storyline - we want to deliver a complete product.
- However, we do not rule out adding paid cosmetic items. These items will not affect gameplay and are pending community outreach.
WORKSHOP
First, we will provide translations by the game community into languages not available in the basic version. Next, we will expand the possibilities of working on HIRAETH

- Screenshots from the third person perspective come from the idle camera effect, the main view of the game is the first person perspective with full body awareness;
- User interface is not the final version.
Migration to Unreal Engine 5.7.1
This update moves Hiraeth to the newest version of Unreal Engine 5.7.1.
This upgrade brings improved stability, smoother performance, and better overall consistency across systems.
The migration was significantly more demanding than previous engine updates, but lets leave that part unspoken.
Windows User Files Updated Folder Structure
I also reorganized the games file structure to make it cleaner and more futureproof.
Previously, game files (saves, logs, configs) were stored in:
[c]%LOCALAPPDATA%\\\\Hiraeth2025[/c]
Now they are stored in:
[c]%LOCALAPPDATA%\\\\Hiraeth[/c]
This matters because you can manually move your old saves and settings into the new folder. Simply copy the entire Saved directory from the old location into the new one.
This is a onetime change, and I dont plan to modify this structure again. Sorry for the inconvenience.
DSLL Update (Nvidia)
The new engine version allows Hiraeth to use the latest December DSLL build from Nvidia.
I also improved how video settings are applied both after changing them and when loading the game.
DSLL in Hiraeth is still in an alpha state and may require several attempts to find the best settings for your hardware. There are two reasons for this:
Nvidia optimizes DSLL primarily for AAA titles.
[/*]Working with DSLL is extremely timeconsuming, and I cant dedicate as much time to it as Id like.

From my tests, the game looks noticeably better on the same settings compared to the previous DSLL version. The older build tended to oversimplify the image.
As for performance hard to say. Thanks to unusual projectlevel optimizations in the previous update, my RTX 2060 already achieved very solid results: not EPIC settings, but stable ~60 FPS both in Training Center and the much heavier Nesoi Island (large map, ocean, and many FPSimpacting features).

In other areas I can reach around 60 FPS even on EPIC (though not fully stable). Considering the technologies used in Hiraeth, this is an excellent result for this GPU.
New Performance Features (Normally Unavailable in UE)
This update enables additional performanceoriented features, including AVX2 support.
AVX2 allows the CPU to process certain operations more efficiently, improving performance in systems that rely heavily on math and data processing.
HLOD Update
Hierarchical Level of Detail (HLOD) systems have been refreshed.
HLODs help the engine render large environments more efficiently by grouping distant objects into simplified clusters. This reduces draw calls and improves performance, especially on large maps like Nesoi.

AI Navigation Optimization
I updated several projectlevel navigation settings to make the AI navigation system more stable and more efficient.
This should reduce edgecase errors and improve overall runtime performance.
Creatures Return
With the navigation system updated, I restored creatures that were temporarily disabled in a previous version:

There are now more of them, and some appear in new locations.
New WorldLoading Checks for Certain Items
Dynamic world loading brings many challenges, and engine rules keep evolving.
I added new checks to ensure that certain items for example, weapons verify whether the object beneath them is already loaded before enabling physics.
What does this fix?
Previously, for example, a rifle placed on Mr Gilz could occasionally fall straight through the world and end up at the bottom of the ocean.
This new system should prevent that. It uses advanced internal checks but has zero noticeable performance cost.

Removal of the Starting Pistol in The Last Drop
You now start the game with a crowbar if you find it.
Players who dont look around or experiment wont survive long on Ahra Prime. Simple as that.
Nesoi Island still has plenty of easily accessible weapons, but this will change in the future once I add new gameplay elements to replace that availability.
Many Small but Important Fixes
A lot of seemingly minor adjustments have a big impact.
For example, some lights were reconfigured to eliminate flickering such as the previously unstable Charger Air light under certain video settings.
There are also numerous tweaks across Nesoi Island, foliage, and various environment settings.
Fixes for Overload Issues
After introducing stackables, several overload problems appeared for example when moving Duct Tape and other items.
I fixed everything I found, but the system still needs refinement. Its new to Hiraeth, and the new engine version introduced workflow changes that Im still adapting to.
Simple WIP HeadBob Reduction
A workinprogress headbob reduction system has been active for some time, even though I didnt announce it earlier.
Press \\[L] to toggle between normal camera mode and reduced headbob mode.
This isnt yet visible in the keybindings menu (for now), but the key works.
How to check?
Look down at your feet and press L youll see the camera shift slightly.
This is just a side effect, but it confirms the mode switched.
In this mode, the camera also applies partial smoothing to reduce animationdriven motion.
I dont use it personally, but Ill continue improving it.
Using Old Saves
With changes as deep as a new engine version and major system updates, starting a new game is recommended but the choice is yours.
As described in the previous announcement:\n[dynamiclink href=\"https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/2646160/view/523111043238464000\"][/dynamiclink]Playing with old saves requires moving your files from the old folder to the new Windows User Files location.
Summary
Beyond the changes listed above, there are many smaller improvements Im not mentioning individually.
Gameplay itself hasnt changed much, but the combination of a new engine version, navigation overhaul, DSLL update, and performance features makes this a Major Update.
IMPORTANT
With so many deep changes, some issues may still slip through, even though I tested this build for many hours and it is stable. If you encounter any problems, please report them on Steam or Discord your feedback helps me improve Hiraeth for everyone.
