Update on the Castaway Coalition Journey

Hello dear followers and fans of Castaway Coalition,

I am reaching out to share some substantial news regarding the journey of creating Castaway Coalition.

As you might know, I have been developing this game using the Unity engine. However, recent changes in Unity's policies and the introduction of new fees have left me disheartened. Frankly, I do not agree with these new rules and have decided not to continue using Unity for the development of Castaway Coalition.

But, this is not the end of the road, not at all!

I am taking this time to delve into the world of the Godot engine, a promising open-source alternative to Unity. My plan is to start with a simpler game project as I get accustomed to this new tool.

Though it pains me to pause work on Castaway Coalition, I am hopeful and excited for what lies ahead. Eventually, I plan to return to the project, armed with new knowledge and expertise, and recreate it from scratch in the Godot engine. It offers a fresh start, a new beginning where I can possibly even incorporate some of the logic written in C# from the initial project.

To all of you who have been so supportive and eager about the game, I want to extend my deepest gratitude. I invite you to continue this journey with me.

For all the latest updates and to walk this new path with me, follow me on Twitter: https://twitter.com/MehowLipa

Let's keep the conversation and the excitement alive!

Thank you for your understanding and your continued support.

Warm regards,
Mehow Lipa

Development Update #2

Dynamic Job System for Characters: Every character in Castaway Coalition is now empowered with its own job system. No longer will they aimlessly wander! Each individual's actions will be dictated by their immediate needs or the town's requirements. For instance, if a character is hungry, they'll seek out food. Or if the town is expanding, they might be tasked with gathering logs and branches for construction.

Job Prioritization Mechanism: Jobs aren't just handed out randomly. They come with priority levels: Low, Medium, High, and Critical. This ensures that characters know exactly what's important and what needs to be tackled first.

Dynamic Job Switching: What happens if something urgent pops up while a character is busy? No worries! If a new job with a higher priority appears, the current task is immediately halted. Characters will then focus on the most pressing matter. Imagine a scenario where a character is building a house but is suddenly ambushed by a wild animal. They won't just continue hammering away; they'll either defend themselves or flee from danger!

Understanding Actions: In Castaway Coalition, an action is a distinct task a character undertakes, like WoodCutting or LogCutting. A single job might comprise one or multiple actions, providing layers to every assignment.

I believe this system will elevate gameplay, making each character's decisions feel more organic and driven by the dynamic environment. It's not just about surviving; it's about living and adapting to the ever-changing challenges of Castaway Coalition.

Can't wait to see how players react to this intricate system and adapt their strategies. Let us know your thoughts and feedback.

Development Update #1

As may already be known, Castaway Coalition is set to become a heavily simulated survival game. The primary objective in the development of this project is to create highly immersive Non-Player Characters (NPCs). Players will find themselves tasked with surviving on an island alongside these NPCs, engaging in various activities including cooperation, town-building, socializing, and gathering resources.

In pursuit of enhancing the realism and immersiveness of NPCs, and to ensure that they interact within the game on an equal footing with human players, a Vision Module (an environmental observation module) has been developed. This will enable characters to actively look for and search objects as they wander the island, thereby enriching the overall playing experience.

What Castaway Coalition Strives to Avoid:
Fake vision where every NPC already knows where the searched object is

What Castaway Coalition Aims to Implement:
Organic search capabilities and vision skills for each NPC
Characters module - Vision
Features:

 • Characters possess vision akin to that of a human being
 • Characters (NPCs) must actively search for essential elements such as food, water, and other characters
 • Three distinct vision distances are assigned to each character: short, medium, and large
 • The game will modify vision distances according to specific circumstances (e.g., during night or rain)
 • The game can enable or disable the vision module for characters (e.g., disabling vision when a character is asleep)

Three distances:

 • Short: Suitable for locating small objects within a short range, such as mushrooms, tools, berries, etc.
 • Medium: Appropriate for spotting larger objects like trees or other characters
 • Large: Designed for identifying expansive objects, such as a body of water or ocean surface

those vision lines won't be visible for the player (development purposes only)

Vision distance will be changing base on external things (time of day, weather, character personal skills and traits)

for example at night will be much shorter:
