Huge (and terribly overdue) Development Update!
Most importantly, the first full draft was completed in early December 2023, and the second draft is also nearing completion. Furthermore, the programming process began in late December. Currently, 2/3rds of Act 1 is complete. As is evident by the fact Butterfly//Circuit is finally coming together, asset production has been going well.
The number of backgrounds and CGs is always growing as it often becomes evident a certain scene needs some extra artwork to make it pop, but currently the spreadsheet I've made outlines that I have completed 63 backgrounds/CGs, and 19 remain (give or take a bunch are totally undocumented). With a majority of backgrounds completed, there has been a push on drawing the character sprites. A lot of work is still to be done on them but there has been some huge progress, with the most prominent characters being complete, only requiring more faces and expressions. In particular, Heather has FINALLY gotten a makeover and fits the vision. Every other sprite has been pretty easy, but Heather and Charlie have been a total pain so I am glad that that nightmare is finally over.
To avoid too many potential spoilers, I will go ahead and only show one of Heather's sprites, as well as this loathsome twink called Emil and that's it.
In terms of audio and music, it'll probably become clearer further along in development, but as of now, the music I have made so far feels like it could be adequate for the whole visual novel. SFX and foley I just do on the fly when it comes up. Stylistically, I think the music has shifted a lot, and definitely feels a lot more honed in, which is great. Or at the very least, better produced. With that all said, I hope to be finished within the next few months. Don't want to keep you waiting too long :]

Whoops! This dev log is LONG overdue. Originally the plan was to put out a video but with becoming employed, as well as all the work that needs to be done on the visual novel itself, I had too much on my plate, so you're stuck with text and some images.
SCRIPT COMPLETE

HUGE ASSETS

Unable to deal with the aftermath of what happened in her home town of Rzekiva, Amelia Morrison leaves for the city to try and pick up the pieces of what’s left.
The routine of every day life is comfortably numbing in its monotony, but no matter how much she tries to suppress them, the memories of that town always resurface. Despite the pain they cause, their persistence reveal that the events that transpired in Rzekiva may not have been what they seem.
As Amelia peels back the layers, the world around her starts to spiral and she alone stands in the middle of it all. Trust and truth become scarce commodities.
Butterfly//Circuit is set in the New European Federated Economic Territory (NEFET) in the grey city of Centropol. Surveillance, resource extraction and the policing of bodies are nothing if not the norm within the concrete grid, but Amelia has bigger things to worry about. Networks of conspiracy, hidden passages, and lost technoccultures permeate the the fabric of Centropol, and Morrison has to cut through the threads.
Crossing paths with faces both new and old, Amelia has to choose wisely who to trust, and who to keep at arms length.
From up and coming solo developer WireWARE with guidance from the MVU, Butterfly//Circuit is a cybergothic kinetic visual novel featuring a twisting drama laced with psychological horror inspired by the likes of Serial Experiments Lain, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, and the works of David Lynch.
Butterfly//Circuit creates a dark and tense reading experience supported by original art and an originally composed soundtrack featuring a variety of music ranging from pumping techno and chill trip-hop, to moody post-rock and atmospheric drones.
