A new first: Someone livestreamed B//C! Unfortunately they experienced a bug dependent on very specific window sizes, which they managed to stumble upon! Whoops! 1.06 Changelog
- Fixed textbox not being hidden during Act_1_1 to Act_1_2 transition.
- Fixed text moving outside of textbox at certain window sizes.
Finally, the long awaited (for both of us) update fixing typos, among other slight issues! This update would have come out much sooner if not for the fact Steam has HATED letting me set up authentication. Without it I could simply not update the game. That issue is FINALLY resolved however so this update can be freed upon you all. Changelog:
- Fixed typos
- Fixed dialogue not clearing from one section in Act 1 to another.
Butterfly//Circuit is finally out and available to play!
Release Date
After 2 years of hard work I am happy to announce that Butterfly//Circuit is FINALLY RELEASING on the 1st of August! I'm happy to finally be able to show off the work I've put into it and hope you'll enjoy! Mark the date on your calendars etc etc. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy B//C on release day! Update to Prologue
In addition to the main release, the free Prologue has also been updated to reflect the visual changes and developments of the rest of the visual novel. A lot of it is how it was, but particularly the very early artwork was replaced and it really changes the feel for the better. So as to give you a taste of what's to come, heres a few of the visual changes!
Whoops! This dev log is LONG overdue. Originally the plan was to put out a video but with becoming employed, as well as all the work that needs to be done on the visual novel itself, I had too much on my plate, so you're stuck with text and some images.
SCRIPT COMPLETE
Most importantly, the first full draft was completed in early December 2023, and the second draft is also nearing completion. Furthermore, the programming process began in late December. Currently, 2/3rds of Act 1 is complete. As is evident by the fact Butterfly//Circuit is finally coming together, asset production has been going well.
HUGE ASSETS
The number of backgrounds and CGs is always growing as it often becomes evident a certain scene needs some extra artwork to make it pop, but currently the spreadsheet I've made outlines that I have completed 63 backgrounds/CGs, and 19 remain (give or take a bunch are totally undocumented). With a majority of backgrounds completed, there has been a push on drawing the character sprites. A lot of work is still to be done on them but there has been some huge progress, with the most prominent characters being complete, only requiring more faces and expressions. In particular, Heather has FINALLY gotten a makeover and fits the vision. Every other sprite has been pretty easy, but Heather and Charlie have been a total pain so I am glad that that nightmare is finally over.
GAYS
To avoid too many potential spoilers, I will go ahead and only show one of Heather's sprites, as well as this loathsome twink called Emil and that's it.
MUSIC
In terms of audio and music, it'll probably become clearer further along in development, but as of now, the music I have made so far feels like it could be adequate for the whole visual novel. SFX and foley I just do on the fly when it comes up. Stylistically, I think the music has shifted a lot, and definitely feels a lot more honed in, which is great. Or at the very least, better produced. With that all said, I hope to be finished within the next few months. Don't want to keep you waiting too long :]
1.02 Small update for the prologue:
- Changed menu to better suit the style and to match the full game's menus
- Changed the dialogue text boxes to be simpler and to fit the text better
It has been about 2 months since the last dev log and progress has been steady, and arguably speeding up.
So what has been done in that time?
The Script
Firstly, Act 1 is complete (at least the first draft) at a nice 33k words. This is going to change once I go over the full thing in editing of course, but for now, that is done.
The writing for Act 2 is well underway now currently standing at almost 17k words. Writing this has gone much quicker than Act 1 by virtue of actually knowing what I need to write, and also just improving! Also, I started using this program called Stimuwrite that has super helped with my concentration. Also a growing caffeine addiction.
The way it is going, Act 2 is going to be longer than Act 1 by some amount. How much specifically I can't say. The storm on the horizon is Act 3, and writing that will either be the quickest, or the most soul drainingly slow process, and so far I can't tell which. That is something I'm going to worry about later however.
Art & Music
Outside of writing, there's also been progress on music and art. I have started work on backgrounds and more character sprites, as well as some CGs. With each new background and sprite I draw, the urge to go back and fix up the prologue grows, but if I do that, it's going to be after the rest of the VN is finished.
Music is the least of priorities currently, but it's still fun to make so I'm making stuff, but whether it ends up getting used is a different story.
Future Plans
For now, things are just going to keep going at this pace. More art, more writing, more music. If you want to keep up more frequently either follow me wherever at @wiregrrrl or join the WireWARE Discord discord.gg/MPQuNmhzUP
Until next time.

Unable to deal with the aftermath of what happened in her home town of Rzekiva, Amelia Morrison leaves for the city to try and pick up the pieces of what’s left.
The routine of every day life is comfortably numbing in its monotony, but no matter how much she tries to suppress them, the memories of that town always resurface. Despite the pain they cause, their persistence reveal that the events that transpired in Rzekiva may not have been what they seem.
As Amelia peels back the layers, the world around her starts to spiral and she alone stands in the middle of it all. Trust and truth become scarce commodities.
Butterfly//Circuit is set in the New European Federated Economic Territory (NEFET) in the grey city of Centropol. Surveillance, resource extraction and the policing of bodies are nothing if not the norm within the concrete grid, but Amelia has bigger things to worry about. Networks of conspiracy, hidden passages, and lost technoccultures permeate the the fabric of Centropol, and Morrison has to cut through the threads.
Crossing paths with faces both new and old, Amelia has to choose wisely who to trust, and who to keep at arms length.
From up and coming solo developer WireWARE with guidance from the MVU, Butterfly//Circuit is a cybergothic kinetic visual novel featuring a twisting drama laced with psychological horror inspired by the likes of Serial Experiments Lain, Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, and the works of David Lynch.
Butterfly//Circuit creates a dark and tense reading experience supported by original art and an originally composed soundtrack featuring a variety of music ranging from pumping techno and chill trip-hop, to moody post-rock and atmospheric drones.
