Happy Halloween! This is our first major content update for Usurper, including an all new deck to play in Campaign, with a unique Ruler (The Count) and rules. We hope you enjoy it!

    • Added new Vampire Deck (unlocked at Level 9)
    • Added Gameplay Tips to round won/lost screens
  • AI Improvements
    • Made AI less likely to place units that could immediately be captured by Ranged units
    • Made AI less likely to miss checkmate
    • Added "Chess Familiarity" popup dictating strength of the AI before reaching level 3

    • Improved clarity of Overtime description in tutorial and rules
    • Specified highlighted tile for pawn placement in tutorial
    • Improved text readability of card pile hover boxes
  • Bug Fixes
    • Fixed Usurped achievement so that it is properly unlocked
    • Fixed Dealer's Gambit text overflow
    • Fixed bug where vsync was not enabled when uncapping framerate
    • Fixed bug where Decree 7+ Overtime would cause the board to disappear while reviewing

Classic Game with a Modern Twist

Usurper offers a unique take on the standard Chess formula. Start each game with only a King and work your way up to a powerful army by purchasing pieces from your deck.

Unique Pieces and Mechanics

Play with completely new pieces with interesting move sets. Be sure to finish off your opponent quickly or risk going into Overtime, where the board itself is damaged and the tide of battle can suddenly shift.

Choose Your Playstyle

Features 3 dynamic decks to play with: Kingdom (familiar and simple), Shogunate (forward facing and aggressive), and Empire (long ranged but slow moving). Mix and match units from different classes to create the perfect deck to crush your opponent.

Local and Online Multiplayer

Play with random players using premade decks or your own specialized creations. Create private matches to play with friends online, or take turns on the hotseat in local matches.

Roguelike Campaign Mode

Face off against the computer in a permadeath mode of ramping difficulty. Start with a basic deck, drafting cards after each success. Challenge unique bosses and upgrade your King with new powers. Clear all 10 highly replayable stages to usurp the throne.
