Prerelease Update #1
Thank you so much for playing Abalon Arena during Steam Next Fest and providing in-game bug reports and feedback on our Discord server and Steam community page. Thanks to your help, Ive managed to make some considerable improvements to the game so far. Check out the release notes below.
[olist]Fixed bug where mousing over cards in the hand to view them wasn't working. (Thanks Foomy44)
Fixed bug where the rasterization engine was reusing old/outdated rasters of the game, resulting in errors such as the characters and card text not aligning or the grid/UI appearing to look scrunched or spread out.
Fixed bug where it was possible to surrender while in the menu or lobby by using the Surrender/Retreat hot key.
Fixed bug where spectators would get a cascading desync error and/or load to a black screen for any game where a card pickup had been dropped or picked up from an object.
Fixed bug where a player, having defeated themself on their own turn, could become desynced with the other players and start seeing cascading bug modals.
Fixed other bugs contributing to sync errors in multiplayer games that resulted in cascading error prompts.
Fixed bug where player could use the end turn button on their allys turn after one of their opponents had been defeated in a 2v2 game. (Thanks N.N.Q)
Fixed bug where it was possible to see the "Initiated Surrender" prompt (which notifies you that your units will attempt to flee at the start of your turn) even if you surrender on your own turn.
Fixed bug where it was possible for multiple players to drop a disconnected player at the same time, which resulted in players who hadnt disconnected being dropped from the game as well. Made it so that once a player is dropped or reconnected, the drop player prompt is automatically dismissed for other players. (Thanks Reiga, Coolstory, mr.kitty)
Game Alerts: Made it so game alerts (i.e. player disconnected, player surrendered, player reconnected) only center for the animated message, but appear as regular left justified text in the chat log.
Chat Improve: Teammates player color appears as green in the chat log instead of red.
AI: Fixed bug where AI was throwing a sync error due to units being knocked in the water and the return to the board from water was resulting in different trigger sequences for the player and AI.
AI: Fixed bug where AI was throwing sync errors when a player was eliminated on their own turn (i.e. from poison). Players are no longer eliminated until their start turn sequence (and all start turn triggers) are finished resolving.
Fixed bug where units that fell in water are returned to the board after their owning player has been eliminated from the game.
Fixed bug where player could not right click on their teammate's surprise trap to view its card.
Fixed bug where Sibylla could sacrifice ally summoners in 4 players games to gain back life.
Fixed bug where Raise Dead could revive defeated enemy summoners in 4 player games.
Fixed bug where a Gnome Scholar returned to the board by an opponent (for example, by dispelling the Chronomancers send ally to the future) would result in the opponent getting to choose a card from the gnome controllers deck. The Gnomes warcry now only triggers when being added to the board on its controllers turn. (Thanks Jear)
Fixed bug where a Metamorph who transformed into another unit could be unsummoned using the Unsummon spell resulting in a the transformed unit being added to that players hand and the Metamorph remaining on the board back in its original shape. Transformed Metamorphs can no longer be unsummoned. (Thanks Arseface)
Fixed bug where stacking vulnerability from Meditate and Earth Elemental resulted in the vulnerability damage being applied twice. (Thanks Jear)
Fixed bug where using Madness or other temporary mind control effects on a Metamorph and then transforming it into another character resulted in gaining permanent control of the Metamorph.
Map Improve: Added border terrain and exits to the 2v2 Desert Temple map[/olist]
Abalon Arena's demo will remain live through the duration of next week for Steam's Remote Play Festival. My next priority will is adding support for local multiplayer (i.e. the ability to add a local guest player) so that you can play local co-op battles and use Steam's Remote Play feature. After the festival, we'll take a break to integrate other features (single player/coop campaign ladders, async multiplayer, etc.) and aim for more demo opportunities in the future before launch. Be sure to Wishlist and Follow our store page for these updates.

Welcome to the Arena! Here, the greatest champions of Abalon gather together to engage in a battle of wits to see who can reign supreme as the world's greatest strategic mind.
Inspired by classic tabletop games like Dungeons and Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, Abalon Arena brings together turn-based tactics and strategic card play with innovations that make for the most fast, fluid and fun matches you've ever experienced!
Combine Cards to Unleash Cascading Chaos!
We've spent the past decade collaborating with players to create the most outlandish and compelling interactions, guaranteed to leave a lasting impression long after the battle is over. Win or lose, you'll discover something new each time and have a few good laughs as well.
Hurl a squirrel at your opponent. Transform it into a super human hulk squirrel. Breed an army of super human hulk squirrels!
Just a handful of possible synergies from the Nature spell school.
With over 400 tactically distinct cards, there's a wild, original combination to be had to suit any play style.
Combine any two of 5 Magic Schools
- Unleash unspeakable evils and raise an army of the dead with Void magic.
- Destroy your enemies and burn the entire forest down with Chaos magic.
- Buff up the ultimate warrior and even manipulate time itself with Celestial magic.
- Control the battlefield with counter spells, redirects, and mind-altering Arcane magic.
- Evolve creatures into monsters, plant traps and create insect swarms with Nature magic.
Tactics Matter Like Never Before!
Abalon Arena takes you to a world beyond the cards to a tactical battle grid where your position, facing and environment will make the difference between victory and bitter defeat.
- Wield shields to block attacks from the front.
- Backstab with assassins to deal massive amounts of damage.
- Knockback enemies into your allies to trigger devastating combo attacks.
- Use terrain to your advantage: take cover behind boulders, push enemies into a poisonous spore pod, and even transform trees into Treants to fight for you!
Beefy characters can knock enemies into your allies to trigger bonus combo attacks.
Features
Characters and Cards
- 20 Heroes to choose from including a squirrel hurling druid, a life sucking liche king, a time-traveling steampunk rat, and a psychic lizard wizard! Each hero has unique abilities and can command two of the five magic schools.
- 48 Guardians that you can mix and match to create powerful synergies with your hero, spells, and summoned units. Each party has two guardians.
- Over 400 cards from which to build your dream team! No commons to dust or gacha mechanics. Each card is tactically distinct and offers unique play-style advantages.
Multiplayer
- PvP Ranked Matches where the most skilled players shall inevitably climb to the top of the leaderboards for fame and glory!
- 2v2 Team Ranked Battles where you and a friend work together, till death or victory!
- Casual Battle Mode to test out your wildest deck creations and have a good laugh with fellow players.
- Real-time turn-based multiplayer battles are fast, fluid and fun! We've clocked them at seven minutes on average, densely packed with jaw dropping plays, sudden twists, and nail biting cliffhangers.
- Asynchronous turn-based multiplayer guarantees you'll always have a real human opponent waiting to play. Take your time to plan your perfect turn, then sit back and wait for the notification to get your daily dose of battle action on your time.
- Custom Lobbies grant the freedom to set up your own game modes, invite friends, and engage in friendly rivalries.
- Spectator Mode allows you to watch competitive matches in real-time and learn techniques from the top players.
- Instant Replay lets you save and share your greatest gaming moments.
Single Player
- Endless Arena offers increasingly difficult challenges where you play solo or cooperatively to defeat onslaughts of enemies and powerful bosses to climb the arena leaderboard.
- Artificial Intelligence that fights and flees for its life like any human player! Our third generation AI aims to put your skills to the test, whether you're teaming up with or fighting against your silicon friend.
- Undo that accidental mis-click and test out how your combos play out with confidence thanks to our handy Undo button. This is a battle of wits, not a test of your reflexes.
