Visual and Ergonomic Updates

Hello everyone! More and more of you are playing Fortune Avenue and that's really great! Especially since you're giving me such relevant feedback! As a result, I've worked really hard to deliver as much content as possible so you can enjoy Fortune Avenue to the fullest!

Visual and Ergonomic Improvements

There has been quite a bit of work on this. In fact, I've changed the colors of the buttons on the main screen and added icons to better distinguish between online and offline game modes. So when you play in offline mode, Fortune Avenue's colors change to become more orange. Meanwhile, when you play online, the beautiful yellow remains until you launch the game. At that point, the background will turn purple. I've implemented small color codes so that at a glance you can see what state the lobby is in. It was quite simple to do, but it was necessary. Still on the interface side, when you arrive on the game board and let's say one of your colleagues is taking longer than expected to load their game. Then Fortune Avenue will display a panel explaining that everything is fine, and that the game will start as soon as everyone is connected. Once again, it was simple to do, but necessary.
And the last two interface changes concern gameplay readability. First, you'll notice very quickly that the scenery and surroundings of the board are less bright. This allows you to focus on what really matters, the flow of the game. But additionally, when you hover your mouse, or cursor if you're playing with a controller, over a player's username, all properties belonging to that player will be highlighted on the board. It's super convenient for knowing at a glance what's happening on the board!

Lobby System Improvements

In Fortune Avenue, when you want to play alone, you have the option to play against bots. And these bots are quite strong. Each bot has a personality. So you might see one bot buy back a property, while another bot won't. This is due to the bots' aggressiveness parameter. And I took a certain pleasure in modulating this aggressiveness so that the bots don't all play the same way, making the games more lively.
But the bots are still very strong! Too strong perhaps for some? So I listened to you, and now you can adjust the difficulty of the bots. There are only two difficulty modes. The difficult mode, which is the current mode. And the easy mode. In easy mode, bots don't organize World Cups. They never buy back hotels, and they never build 5-star hotels. When they take a plane, they make somewhat questionable choices. I had the bots play against each other, and the difficult bots absolutely destroy the easy bots. Rest assured, if you find yourself disconnected from a game, a difficult bot will take your place. Just to cover for you until you reconnect. So, this is a major update, as it modifies the interface, but also allows you to create more enjoyable games. Thank you for your time, And I wish you great games! Xavier aka Binogure

Update v0.41.0: Thank You for Your Support!

Hello everyone! What a launch?! With more than 300 sales in 48 hours, that's not bad at all! Thank you to all of you who purchased the game and are playing it, it's wonderful! I want to see the Fortune Avenue community grow, more and more! Though, we still need more players. Even if 300 of you bought the game, you're not all playing at the same time. So, I've contacted the press and influencers to ask them to talk about the game, or even play it to bring in more players! I hope this strategy will work, but in the meantime, here's the first major update for Fortune Avenue!

Bug Fixes

Some users, especially on Windows, encountered crashes while playing Fortune Avenue. But not just simple crashes, the game completely froze the computer. And that's not great. Having experienced this bug myself, I was able to fix it. And after 2 hours of gameplay on an old machine, I'm confident enough to tell you that the bug is fixed! Another quite annoying bug has been fixed. At the end of a game, if you lost before others, a panel offers you to return to the main menu or continue watching. The fact is that if you clicked on "Return to main menu" the game would stop responding. Not that it had crashed, but the interface became completely unreachable, forcing you to violently close the game to restart it. This annoying bug came from a very silly mistake on my part that I fixed quite easily.

Small Addition

So, you start a game with friends online or locally. You're having fun, at least I hope you're having fun. And like all good things that come to an end, the game finishes. Until now, Fortune Avenue simply offered you to return to the main menu to create a new game. Well, with this version, the "Play Again" button has been added to the end-of-game panel. This is super convenient and allows you to restart a game with a single click while keeping the configuration.

New Translation

This is where it gets significant. I would have liked to add it for the demo, but due to lack of time, I couldn't do it. But fortunately, everything is back in order, as Fortune Avenue is now available in German. It wasn't easy to add this new language, and some typos may have slipped into the translation, but normally the entire game is functional and everything works really well. I've also gathered quite a bit of your feedback, and thank you to everyone who has already left a review on Steam, it really counts and helps to highlight Fortune Avenue even more, allowing us to find even more new players! Thank you for reading. And I wish you a good game! Xavier aka Binogure

Fortune Avenue: Final Countdown to Launch!

Fortune Avenue releases on April 7th, 2025, exactly one week from now! It will launch with the biggest possible discount: 40%. Normally a launch discount is between 10 and 25%, but I wanted to treat you with a 40% discount for 7 days! It's an opportunity not to be missed! And to avoid missing it, wishlist the game immediately, because it would be a shame to miss this, right?!

The final changes before release

I've done my best with the time I have left and the feedback you've provided! First, a huge change regarding controllers. Controller support has been completely overhauled to make it more fluid and enjoyable. No more buttons you can't reach! Now you can rotate the camera, check the rules history, or even view the cards you own with a controller! It was a big job, but I think you're really going to appreciate it! In addition, there are less significant but equally important changes. When playing locally, there's no longer a timer. You can take a whole hour to roll the dice if you want, without needing to open the pause menu. Plus, the functionality of certain cards has been revised. When someone offers you free rent, the player whose property you land on will still receive that rentthe bank will pay it instead of you. I've also given the helicopter a little facelift to make it put a bit more pressure on you when it's chasing you! Yeah, with a big spotlight, you definitely can't miss it now! I've made other small changes, particularly to the interface to make it more fluid as well. Whenever I talk about changes, know that they aren't in the demo but only in the final game. So there's no point in launching the demo to see the changesyou'll only see them on April 7th, 2025. Speaking of the demo, it's time to disable it. We're one week away from the big day, and the demo is now obsolete. Sorry if you wanted to play a quick game, you'll have to wait until April 7th! Thank you for reading, and I wish you all an excellent week! Xavier aka Binogure

Multiplayer local, new content and balancing

Hello everyone! It is with great pleasure that I return today to tell you about this new version of Fortune Avenue. I know the game isn't out yet, but over 2,000 of you have played the demo, so I've gathered quite a bit of feedback.

Local Multiplayer

This is a feature almost all of you requested: the ability to play with multiple people on the same machine. And it wasn't easy to implement. I had to rewrite a large part of the network code to ensure the game could work offline while managing multiple players. Managing the offline mode was the most difficult part since the local multiplayer was already handled by Fortune Avenue. Indeed, before adding the network layer that allows online play, I made a prototype that allowed me to play with multiple people on the same machine. And honestly, it works wonderfully. But there were still some things I wanted to improve, including the fluidity of game creation. In a local game, you all play on the same controller, you can choose your piece, but you can't play the same piece. In online multiplayer, this restriction only exists in local mode. So, to make it work, I named each of the pieces, so you'll find Gunter and others like Van Diesel (a touch of humor doesn't hurt anyone). So to summarize, you can play offline, but also online, and even play co-op if you want!

More Content

I got the message loud and clear: you wanted more content. So I added 5 new rules that spice up the game. One rule at the beginning of the game distributes hotels to all players, another adds a carbon tax. In short, there's something for everyone, and above all, it makes the game even more chaotic! But you also asked for more cards. And here I'm going to make you happy, because I've added many cards. Including one that allows you to move another player, or send them to jail, or even remove festivals. I won't reveal everything, but know that these cards give you control and once again add chaos to your game.

Balancing

Some of you reported that the ice floe doesn't cost enough, or that the airplane ticket is practically given away. Rest assured, I've doubled the price to get out of the ice floe and tripled the price of the airplane ticket. And if we combine this with the possibility of melting the ice floe or adding a carbon tax, believe me, the game board won't recover, and neither will you!

Game Release

This was a very big update and it will definitely change the game. I still have plenty of things to add to Fortune Avenue before its release, I have a few weeks ahead of me, but I also need your help. To be completely transparent with you, Fortune Avenue has accumulated just under 3,000 wishlists. This is a very respectable number, and I thank everyone who took the time to wishlist the game. However, in the eyes of Steam's algorithm, this number is not big enough. In fact, we would need to reach at least 6,000 wishlists for Steam's algorithm to kick in and start promoting the game. To put things in perspective, it took 1 year for Fortune Avenue to reach 3,000 wishlists, and it has less than a month to gain 3,000 more. To reach this goal, I've implemented many strategies: emails, YouTube videos, social media posts, but I don't think I can reach 6,000 wishlists alone. Maybe Fortune Avenue will reach 3,500 wishlists if I'm lucky. But honestly, every wishlist counts, every share counts, and each of you can choose whether or not to wishlist Fortune Avenue. At launch, Fortune Avenue will have a flash sale of 40%, and I don't think you'll want to miss it. So by wishlisting the game, you'll be informed by Steam about the game's release, and you definitely won't miss the sale. Thank you for reading, and thank you for your support! Have a great day Xavier aka Binogure

Technical Update for Fortune Avenue

Hello everyone! Thank you for reading and especially for growing in numbers! I've gone through your feedback and it's excellent. Now I'm working directly on the complete game, adding new rules, implementing local multiplayer, among other things. Before getting there, I wanted to tell you that Fortune Avenue is made with Godot Engine. An Open Source and free game engine. I really like the idea behind this engine which is collaborative and allows me to make quality games without having to worry too much about the technical aspects. In short, Fortune Avenue uses the latest version of this engine, and an even more stable version has just been released. So that's what this morning's small update was about. After testing the multiplayer for several hours, I decided to publish this new version with the latest version of Godot Engine. I hope you're enjoying Fortune Avenue, and if so, please don't hesitate to leave a review or wishlist the game directly on Steam. Thank you for reading. Take care and have a good day. Major Demo Update

Hello everyone! First of all, thank you for being so numerous in testing the demo, and especially thank you for your feedback and reviews on Steam. Not only does it help me make a better game, but it also gives Fortune Avenue a bit more visibility. Nothing but good things, you're awesome, keep it up!

Synchronization Issues

Some network games may experience synchronization problems. This happens particularly during your first game, after which it shouldn't occur again. To prevent this from happening, I had to revise the algorithm managing the game's internal state machine so it only synchronizes when necessary.

Visibility Problems

Many of you reported that it was difficult to find your token on the board. Well, I tried several approaches, some of which I won't mention, but I managed to find a pretty effective solution. From now on, a small arrow in the center of the board indicates each player's position. It's super convenient, and you no longer lose sight of your token.

Game Speed

I want Fortune Avenue to be a party game with matches lasting no longer than 30 minutes. So I had to revise quite a few things to make the game a bit more fast-paced. The first change concerns the default game speed. Instead of normal speed, the game will start directly at fast speed. I've verified that it remains playable and that you can still understand what's happening on the board. The second change concerns voting for new rules. In fact, when you play a 4-player game and 2 players are eliminated during the first round, it significantly slows down the game. Yes, rules actually speed up the game. So fewer players means fewer rules and therefore a longer game. So I had to adjust the voting for new rules accordingly. You'll actually vote more often, but not too often either. So, these are the changes in this new version. I hope you're as hyped as I am! That's all from me. I hope you're enjoying Fortune Avenue. Don't forget to add the game to your wishlist if you plan to buy it to be notified when it releases! In the meantime, have a great day, Xavier aka Binogure

Polishing the final details

Hello everyone! One update per day even though Fortune Avenue isn't even out yet. Actually, I've been watching you play Fortune Avenue and noticed a few bugs here and there. The first one involves the hotel sales panel. Instead of displaying as a tiny window in the middle of the screen, it now takes a comfortable space and no longer hides the game board. Plus, the buttons had tooltips that made no sense. I couldn't leave it like that, so I added some style to the panel and implemented coherent tooltips. With these changes, you can already feel the difference.
Another bug concerns players who disconnect and then reconnect a bit later. There was a problem with character display synchronization. You see, if you were playing with 4 people and one player lost, everything was fine, especially if you weren't the one who lost. But if you got disconnected from the game (it can happen, Steam servers aren't infallible), and then you reconnected, the players who had lost would reappear but remain frozen on the board. This cemetery atmosphere wasn't great, so I fixed this bug so they change into tombstones. And there you go, much better right away! These are just small changes, but they're necessary to give you a good gaming experience. That's all from me. I hope you're enjoying Fortune Avenue. Don't forget to wishlist the game if you plan to buy it so you'll be notified when it launches! Until then, have a great day, Xavier aka Binogure

Steam Deck and Gameplay Improvements

Hello everyone! It's great to see so many players enjoying Fortune Avenue! It's really fantastic, I've already received valuable feedback that will be incorporated for the game's release, while other suggestions have already been implemented!

STEAM DECK VERIFIED

I've been working for months to ensure the best possible gaming experience on the Steam Deck. Valve gave me tremendous help showing what needed improvement. And now, this latest demo version makes Fortune Avenue a Steam Deck Verified game. So grab your Steam Decks and enjoy playing!

Dice Physics

In Fortune Avenue, you roll the dice with your mouse, so the dice throw depends on your movements. The game was quite forgiving, allowing you to make very small dice throws. But some players managed to exploit this feature to cheat. I've completely revised the algorithm that manages the dice, and believe me, it's now impossible to rig the dice. This is great news for everyone who wants to play without worrying about unfair advantages.

The World Cup

The World Cup significantly increases the rent of the space it occupies. Some players weren't fans of this feature. So I've revised how it works - now instead of multiplying the rent by 10, it will multiply it by 3. And each time you organize the World Cup, its effectiveness increases. The first time it's x3, then x6, then x9, and so on. I think you understand how it works now. Games remain fast-paced, but this makes the World Cup less dangerous in the early rounds.

Voting for New Rules

In Fortune Avenue, you vote for rules that change the course of the game. Some rules are connected to each other. I'm thinking of the rule that makes all players move forward or backward one space. From now on, rules like this will be linked, and you'll have to choose between moving forward one space or moving backward one space.

Bug Fixes

Two tricky bugs were present in this demo. The first one involved the voting rules. If you took too long to vote and voted at the last moment, it would disrupt the game and put it in a "weird" state. I managed to reproduce the problem on my machine, and now it's fixed. The second bug was more annoying. When buying a hotel, some options were grayed out without any explanation given. Now when you hover your mouse over them, you'll know exactly why the button is disabled. That's all from me. I hope you're enjoying Fortune Avenue. Don't forget to wishlist the game if you plan to buy it, so you'll be notified when it launches! Until then, have a great day! Xavier aka Binogure

New! Play Solo, Rest in Peace

Hello everyone! New announcement for Fortune Avenue, I know, already when the game isn't even out yet! This pre-release maintenance is incredible. Fair warning - this is my peak humor level, so brace yourselves for what's coming!

The Cemetery

I've added tombstones! Because going bankrupt is serious business, so when you lose, your character vanishes and poof - a tombstone appears in a cloud of smoke. It looks super cool in-game, and better yet, it lets you keep throwing emojis around even after going bankrupt!

New Game Mode

I've been working on this for several weeks, and it's finally ready for testing. The offline mode will let you play solo against the computer. No internet connection required, and I'm planning to keep working on this game mode before April 7th so you can play with your buddies on a single machine! Because I think that's a crucial feature for a party game!

Other Changes

I've got 24 hours in my day just like you do, but I make the most of them - and yes, I'm totally bragging here! Sorry... More seriously, I'm super happy to have fixed two major bugs. The first one was a game closing bug. When you closed Fortune Avenue, it could take up to 3 minutes to actually shut down. That was annoying, but it's ancient history now. The other important change involves the 3D models. I've revised them again to make them even prettier and more efficient. This is really awesome because Fortune Avenue now uses even fewer resources than before while looking better. I know that's subjective, but I think the game looks much better in its latest version. This isn't a huge article, but I wanted to make a point about the offline mode. I think it's super important for games to be playable offline. So now you know everything! Don't hesitate to comment, or wishlist Fortune Avenue if you haven't already. Meanwhile, have a great day Take care Xavier aka Binogure

Major Changes Coming to Fortune Avenue

Hello everyone! The last major update was about two months ago and added team mode! Since then, I've been working hard and added many new features! Let me tell you all about them.

Interface

Until now, it wasn't always clear what was happening in the game. While you could see all player actions, crucial information was missing. When a player completes a lap around the board, we know they earn $50,000, but when they pay taxes, we don't know how much they pay. This was a major issue. I've fixed this by adding two important pieces of information to Fortune Avenue's interface: money spent and money earned are now displayed directly in the game. It's synchronized with the animations, making it even cooler!
I've also worked on the in-game text, making it clearer and larger. Everything now displays properly, even on Steam Deck. Speaking of which, Fortune Avenue now fully supports controllers, so grab your Steam Deck and try out this little gem!

Game Speeds

Reading through your feedback, I noticed a common comment about the game's pace. The animations were too slow and significantly slowed down gameplay. I heard you and worked hard to address this need. Fortune Avenue now offers 3 game speeds: normal, which many of you found too slow; fast, which is 1.5x faster; and very fast, which is literally 2x faster. Be careful though - at 2x speed, it really moves! I've tested it, and it works well. There were some synchronization issues to solve, but once those were fixed, the game plays very smoothly. Even the longest games now last maximum 30 minutes at 2x speed.

Other Changes

Easter is coming up, so to celebrate, I've added a new game board. You'll find Easter eggs, baskets, and a lush green meadow. It's a nice change from the existing scenery.
You've probably noticed other changes too. First, Fortune Avenue's main screen now has 2 buttons: one for offline play and one for online play. In the demo, you can only play online. But from April 7, 2025, the game can be played offline in solo mode. I hope you're excited about this! Another change concerns the game's price. As promised, the game will be $2.99 at launch. And it will be - I've made sure of it. But this will be for a limited time. For 14 days, the game will be 40% off, after which it will return to its original price of $4.99. If you're unsure about getting the game, you can try it now and make up your mind. Don't forget to wishlist Fortune Avenue so you don't miss the 40% launch discount! I still have plenty of work to do and features to add before the official release on April 7, 2025. So I'll get back to work. Take care, Xavier aka Binogure

The Balance of Power Update

Hello folks! I've been watching some streams of Fortune Avenue lately, and I noticed something that needed fixing - the same cards were being drawn repeatedly, turning what should be an hour of fast-paced fun into a marathon of monotony. That's not the Fortune Avenue experience I envisioned! So, I rolled up my sleeves and got to work on making this game even better. My goal has always been to create fast-paced, engaging matches that keep everyone on their toes, and this update takes significant steps in that direction.

Strategic Enhancements

The voting system has been completely revamped to ensure more meaningful choices. No more scratching your heads over pointless rules - every vote now carries weight in shaping your path to victory. I've also introduced team play, because sometimes it's more fun to plot world domination with a friend! Teams can now work together to build their real estate empire, sharing strategies and resources while trying to outsmart their opponents. And for those moments when luck isn't on your side, I've added the ability to gracefully bow out with the new abandon feature. Because sometimes, dignity is worth more than dollars (though not in-game, obviously). This feature helps keep games moving along at a brisk pace, preventing those dreaded situations where players feel trapped in a losing battle.

New Cards & Mechanics

Your deck of possibilities has expanded with three new game-changing cards: a surprise grand hotel gift (because who doesn't love free real estate?), random hotel protection (insurance policies are important!), and a direct ticket to the tax office (sorry about that one). Speaking of taxes, they now increase by $30K each time you land on them - my virtual tax collectors need raises too! This progressive tax system adds an interesting twist to the late game, making those tax spaces increasingly threatening as the game goes on. These new cards have been carefully designed to create more dynamic gameplay moments without disrupting the core balance that makes Fortune Avenue special.

Quality of Life Improvements

The Wheel of Fortune and card animations have received a juicy makeover - they're now more satisfying than ever to use, with improved visual feedback and smoother transitions. Steam Deck users will appreciate the improved font rendering, making text clearer and more readable on the portable screen. I've added comprehensive gamepad support, meaning you can now bankrupt your friends from the comfort of your couch. Every button has been carefully mapped to ensure an intuitive experience whether you're using a controller or the Steam Deck's built-in controls. I've also added the ability to disable joystick vibration, for those who prefer their financial victories without the shake or want to preserve their battery life.

Technical Touches

I've squashed some bugs, including the pesky team-based "almost monopole of wonders" issue that was preventing proper wonder monopoly detection in team games. The UI has been polished with animated checkboxes (because even small details matter), and the Steam overlay integration for wishlisting has been smoothed out for a more seamless experience. Festival organizations now show properly on the board - no more invisible parties! The invitation system has also been refined, with the invitation button now properly disabled when a lobby is full, preventing those awkward "sorry, we're full" moments.

Looking Forward

This update represents my ongoing commitment to making Fortune Avenue the best digital board game experience possible. I've focused on maintaining the game's signature fast-paced nature while adding meaningful strategic depth through team play and new mechanics. The technical improvements and quality of life changes should make every session more enjoyable, whether you're playing on PC or Steam Deck. If you have more ideas, please share them - I always read your feedback and take it to heart. Meanwhile, take care and may the doubles be ever in your favor! Xavier aka Binogure

New Wonders, Better Balance

Hello folks! After watching a rather peculiar stream where the same card kept appearing like a stubborn penny (and the game dragged on longer than a mortgage approval), I knew something had to change. Let me walk you through our latest update that's about to make Fortune Avenue even more entertaining!

A Shuffle in the Right Direction

The card-picking system has been completely overhauled. Gone are the days when the same card would haunt you like a persistent ex. Now, once a card makes its appearance, it politely steps aside, giving other cards their moment in the spotlight. It's like a well-choreographed dance where everyone gets their turn to shine.

Wonderful New Additions

Speaking of fresh faces, we've added four magnificent wonders to our board: the Great Lighthouse (because who doesn't need better navigation?), the Forbidden City (not so forbidden anymore), the Empire State Building (King Kong not included), and the Brandenburg Gate. These new additions ensure that each game starts with a different set of wonders, adding that extra sprinkle of variety to your empire-building adventures.

The Great Time Crunch

We've also tackled the elephant in the room - those marathon games that lasted longer than a Lord of the Rings extended cut. Through careful rebalancing, we've ensured that games wrap up within 40 minutes. A particularly troublesome rule that was causing these extended sessions has been strategically pushed to mid/late game, when property rents have reached more substantial levels.

Bug Squashing

Finally, we've fixed two pesky bugs: the emoji panel that overstayed its welcome after games ended (like that one guest who doesn't realize the party's over), and the occasionally confused path-drawing system that sometimes sent players on unexpected detours (our GPS has been updated, so to speak). If you have more ideas for improving Fortune Avenue, please share them! I always read your feedback and take it to heart. Meanwhile, take care and may the rent always be in your favor! Xavier aka Binogure

Demo Launch Announcement: Fortune Avenue

Hey folks ! After countless hours (and more cups of tea than I'd like to admit), I'm thrilled to announce that Fortune Avenue is about to hit your screens with its demo release on November 11th! This project has been a one-person journey to bring a fresh twist to the classic board game experience, with plenty of strategy, surprises, and even a little chaos thrown in.

Imagine swapping out Free Parking for a jet-fueled airport or landing on a melting ice floe instead of a traditional jail. Fortune Avenue has been crafted to keep you guessing at every turn, with evolving rules and game dynamics that ensure no two sessions are ever the same. Think Monopoly, but with a bit of extra spice, a helicopter (for a quick exit), and an entirely new layer of strategy.

So, if youre up for the challenge, eager to face some curveballs, or just in the mood to test your friendships, grab the demo, dive in, and give it a whirl. I can promise you that your feedback means the world to me. If anything goes haywire, just let me knowIm here to make it right. Lets roll those dice, strategize, and see who claims the title of Fortune Avenues first champion! Take care Xavier aka Binogure

Grand opening of the playtests!

Hello folks, I'm delighted to announce the opening of playtests for Fortune Avenue.

How to participate ?

For the sake of simplicity, I've decided to register via the studio's Discord server. You simply need to create a Discord account, join our server then say hello and you're all set! It's as simple as that.

How it all works ?

The playtests take place over at least 3 progressively increasing waves. Each wave lasts between 7 and 10 days. During the first wave, 5 to 10 of the most active members will be selected to take part in the playtests. These members are then given a Steam key and immediate access to Fortune Avenue. Assuming all goes well, and there are no blocking bugs, 7 to 10 days later, the second wave begins, along with 50 Steam keys distributed via the Discord server. As in the second wave, if there are no blocking bugs, then 7 to 10 days later, the third wave begins, and with it 250 Steam keys are sent out.

When does it start? When does it end ?

Although you can already register, the first keys are scheduled to be sent out later this week. Playtesting ends in the first week of September, and ALL Steam keys will be deactivated.

How to play ?

Even though Fortune Avenue is a multiplayer game, you can still play solo to test the game out. Simply activate the Steam key, install the game via Steam, launch it and you're ready to play. Well, that's all for now, and I'll see you soon. Until then, take care. Xavier aka Binogure

A demo coming soon

Hello everyone! In the past few weeks, Ive been very active and Im happy to share the progress made.

Recent Advancements

Voting System and Helicopter

Ive implemented the voting system and the helicopter, and they are 100% functional. Ive played several games, and its really enjoyable, even against AI with an unfinished game. I cant wait for you to try it out and give me your feedback!

Animations and Time Constraints

One of the main challenges has been designing attractive animations without exceeding the time budget. For example, an amusing idea of a giant hammer attached to the helicopter to eject losing players was set aside in favor of a simpler animation where the player disappears in a cloud of dust. This decision helps maintain a balance between rapid development and visual quality.

Time Management and Multitasking

Steam Page Reorganization

Alongside development, I had to spend time reworking the Steam page for Fortune Avenue to better reflect the game. This task was urgent due to the cross-promotion with my other game, City Game Studio, during the Steam Summer Sale. Consequently, I temporarily reduced the time spent on Fortune Avenue to manage this promotion. This only took a few days, as I am now back to working on Fortune Avenue.

Playable Demo and Playtests

Demo Planning

For the first time, I have a detailed plan to finalize a playable demo of Fortune Avenue. This plan includes specific tasks like adding players' real estate assets to the interface, creating the victory panel, and integrating Steam achievements. I estimate that I will have a playable demo by September 1, 2024. However, before that, I will need to organize playtesting sessions.

Playtesting Sessions

Before this date, several playtesting sessions will be organized to ensure the game works well and is enjoyable to play. I will soon recruit players to participate in these tests, and I invite you to join the Discord server and follow the Steam page to not miss the announcement.

Conclusion

Im thrilled with the progress made and Im determined to make Fortune Avenue a success. Your support is crucial, so please wishlist the game and follow the updates. Thank you for your attention and see you soon with more updates! Take care, Xavier aka Binogure

Preparing the demo

Hello all! Today, I'm going to talk about the evolution of Fortune Avenue's design and the solutions I've found to improve the game experience, notably by managing frustration and adding interesting new mechanics. In the early stages of development, I focused on the game design of Fortune Avenue, a board game inspired by Monopoly but with a personal touch. One of the first challenges I faced was to limit the randomness inherent in the game, as randomness can often lead to frustrating situations, especially when one player is clearly losing. Let's imagine a game with three players. After 20 minutes, one player already has 20 hotels, another has 15, and you only have three small caravans. Barring a monumental stroke of luck, it's almost certain that you're going to lose. And while you're waiting for that inevitable defeat, the pleasure of playing disappears, both for you and for the other players waiting for the game to move on.
To address this problem, I initially thought of a timer system that would limit the length of a game. However, this could be perceived as unfair to players who have a chance of getting back on track. Unfairness creates frustration, so I dismissed the idea. I then looked at a way of shortening the frustration with a sudden-death system. I considered several solutions, including the idea of rigging the dice to finish off players in difficulty, but finally opted for a more dynamic and fun approach: the pursuing banker. Here's how it works: as soon as a player falls below the $100,000 mark, a banker appears and starts chasing him. The player then has five rolls of the dice to get back over $100,000, or he's kicked off the board. The banker then pursues the next poorest player if he too is under $100,000. This keeps the waiting time to a minimum and adds a fun, stressful animation for the struggling player. To keep the other players from getting bored, I've introduced an elimination bonus. When a player eliminates another, he earns a substantial bonus, making each action meaningful and engaging for all players.
On the development front, now that the prototype is ready, I'm focusing on getting the demo ready. Currently, I'm working on 3D modeling with Blender to create the game's tokens. In the prototype, there was only one token, a white bear. For the demo, I modeled several tokens: a boat, a pawn, a shoe, a van, a little dog, a scooter, a goose, a top hat, a penguin, a pig and a suitcase. That's 11 tokens, each with five animations, for a total of 55 animations to create. It's a time-consuming process, especially as I often go back to improve the animations. The idea is to prepare an ultra-polished demo for the next Steam Next Fest. However, it's likely that I'll postpone Fortune Avenue's participation until the next festival to allow the necessary time. To fine-tune the demo, I'll be organizing playtests this summer and gathering your feedback to improve the gaming experience. In the meantime, you can wishlist Fortune Avenue on Steam. Take care. More tokens

Hello everyone! First of all, a big thank you to all of you for the feedback you've given me through the various social networks. The Steam page is more welcoming, and the game description is all the clearer for it. Let's talk about the game content itself. The camera will be redesigned to be more dynamic and allow you to better follow the actions taking place on the board. We had originally planned to customize the token. However, it turns out that you'd prefer to have a choice of various tokens. So, I'm listening to you and adding more token variations. More changes are to come, but for the next few months I'll be working on these announcements. Thank you all, and don't forget to wishlist and follow Fortune Avenue! Xavier aka Binogure

Fortune Avenue

Hello and welcome! Fortune Avenue is a 3D multiplayer Monopoly-style board game. That says it all, or almost. In detail, there are several changes that make Fortune Avenue a unique game

Fortune Avenue a unique game

Fortune Avenue's style and functionality are second to none. Once ready, the game can be played locally or via Steam. It can be played by 2 or 6 players. Two modes will be available from release: classic and ultra-fast. Classic mode takes the basic rules and adds some special features. For example, a wheel of fortune that allows you to take over your competitors' hotels. In addition, there's an airport that allows you, for a fee, to move around the board. You can also organize the World Cup on one of your properties to increase rents. An ice floe where it's best not to stay too long. In short, it's a whole new world that refreshes the game. The ultra-fast mode uses the classic rules, but changes the rents, the wages earned each turn and building acquisition costs. This means that games can be played in under 10 minutes.
All your interactions are physics-based. Shake the mouse to roll the dice, or the wheel of fortune. You're in control, and can recapture the sensations of physical play without having to tidy up at the end. Of course, if you like tidying up the box, picking up the pieces and sorting the money, there's nothing I can do for you in that case other than redirect you to a cozy game called "a little to the left". Thank you all, don't forget your Fortune Avenue wishlist and see you soon! Xavier aka Binogure
