Hello all fellow bug-girl enthusiasts!! Today I come bearing gifts! A major patch to the demo of My Insect Girl that should bring it closer to the final product! I took a break from working on the remainder of the game to completely revamp the opening you all have been playing for the last few months now! The full list of changes can be found below, but the highlights are 2 NEW SONGS!!! REWRITTEN OPENING ACT!!!! REVAMPED AND REDRAWN CGS!!!!! And many MANY QOL changes!! A word from my friend, the music man: -Thank you all very much for checking out our game. If visual novels are your thing, I hope to see you all at the full release. And quick word from me, as the developer: -Thank you all so much for the love you have shown this game. It has been in the works for.. Well Id rather not say how long.. But it is nearing the finish line, and the support you all have given me keeps me going through the days where I dont want to get up and work on the game at all. So once again, thank you! I will continue to work hard to bring you an amazing product for the full release in December. Now to answer some questions I have gotten about the full release of the game: If you have any additional questions, I will be answering all in the community tab. Q: When will the full game be out? A: The game will be released in Q4 of 2024! More specifically, December 19th Q: How much will the full game be? A: The game will have a full price of 7.99 USD, and will have a 20% sale on launch! Q: How long will it take to play the game? A: The game isnt finished yet, but by my estimates it should be around 6-8 hours worth of story and gameplay for the good routes, and 2-3 hours for the bad. (These are first playtime numbers, so NOT counting using the skip button) Q: How many endings in the game? A: There will be two good endings, and one bad ending. If this amount ever changes, I will be sure to update you all on it! Q: Any translations/localizations for the game? A: I would love to! One issue though.. I can only speak, read, and write English, as its my native language. If I can find a reliable way to get different languages out though, you can bet there will be localizations! Q: Can you romance Clair? A: Nope! Clair is your friend, your support, your trusty landlord, but not your romantic partner. That special title is reserved for Ophelia (if you so choose)! Q: Will there be a NSFW ending/scene? A: No, there will not be. This was a thought I shot down near the beginning of development as I wanted as many people as possible to play and enjoy the game and story I have made for you all. Q: Will there be DLC? A: I have no intention to sell any DLC for My Insect Girl. If I have more to add onto the story, you can bet itll be free! Patch Notes:
- Revamped the script for the opening based on player feedback. (By far the biggest complaint I was given was that of the opening feeling too wordy. I reworked it twice since then and eventually landed on what it is in this patch. I cut out a lot of the unnecessary dialogue that was in there before thanks to my inexperience in writing, and added some new lines to better lead into future plot points! I doubt the opening will change much more from this current iteration, so Im excited to hear what everyones thoughts on it are!)
- Updated the cgs in the game to more accurately represent what the final product will look like (The cgs in the game, (ophelia_eating, two_cops, ophelia_ham, and thank_you_demo), have all been updated to be more on model and cleaner overall. two_cops especially was rushed, and turned out bad because of it. Im happy to update them all for a better viewing experience.)
- Implemented 2 new looping songs, and a transition jingle (Songs somber_stone and empty have been added into the game at different parts, as well as the jingle time_pass_1 for the act_1 transition.)
- Changed the font for the title screen and menu options. (I personally felt the old font was very basic looking for lack of a better term. This new font just fits the feel of the game way more to me!)
- Centered the text alignment on the title screen (It just looks better \_()_/)
- The game now shows the players chosen name when youre speaking instead of just quotation marks. (There was some confusion on when the player character was talking out loud, or having their inner monologue. This was caused by swapping between using quotation marks and not. That is no more though! You now see the name you chose at the beginning of the game whenever youre talking out loud.)
- Updated karma system values slightly (Increased the starting value of the hidden karma.)
- Moved text box down to show off sprites/bgs/cgs better. (It was hard to fully see and appreciate the art in the game with the current height of the textbox ui, so its now moved down.)
- Changed the Preferences button to now say Settings (QOL change based on player feedback.)
- Volume of songs lowered across the board (QOL change based on player feedback.)
Wow, just wow! The support for the recent demo release has been absolutely incredible! I would've never thought 3 years ago that so many people would be interested in this little game I'm making.. So drumroll please, in the first 3 days of the demo's release it got over 30,000 impressions with around 2,000 people having installed the game! That is insane in and of itself, but now sitting around 2 weeks into the launch we are sitting at ~120,000 impressions and over 6,000 installs!! That's right, six THOUSAND!!! It is insane that that many people found the demo for my game that interesting looking, and even more insane that almost 120,000 people have seen my game!!! I've also gotten some feedback about the demo from some of you amazing people who have played it, and here are some things that have already changed for the full game's release: >The player's name will now pop up when they are speaking (previously just had quotations when speaking.) >The Preferences menu has been renamed to Settings >The title screen has been revamped to look better overall Some other comments I got about the demo so far include concerns about the amount of music in the game, and I am here to quell those worries! The full game will have the two tracks included in the demo, as well as at minimum 2 more tracks! One for Clair, and a more somber track! Another concern that was expressed was how little there was to the demo. People were on the edge of their seats wanting more after the demo ended, and that is incredible!! There is no greater praise I can receive than that, genuinely. And because of that, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. It has been my lifelong dream (literally since I was 7!!) to become a game developer, and with the success of the demo, that no longer feels like a dream. Today I'm here to show off the final character that will be getting a full model with multiple expressions, a character I hope everyone will love, MC's mother!!
Compared to Ophelia and Clair, this one was super easy to nail a design for. While in the rough sketch phase for her, I wanted to make sure that if someone sees her, they instantly know she's the mom. because of that, I decided to make her have her eyes closed all the time, and the stereotypical anime mom haircut. On top of that, I tried keeping her color pallet on the warmer side to try and make her feel more welcoming!
In terms of plot, she will be your guiding force, and her reactions and advice will change based on the choices you make in game!

In MIGCBTC you play as the main character, who happens across Ophelia in an abandoned city. With every choice you make, you get closer and closer to helping her integrate into society. With your friend and landlord Clair's help, you might just be able to pull it off.
