I've spent the last two months on adding the most ambitious feature to Fallacy Quiz, I'm now ready to announce that there will be a local multiplayer mode, but that's not all! If you're new, Fallacy Quiz is a game to learn to spot logical and rhetorical fallacies, it can be added to your wishlist right now and it's really close to being released. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2847380/Fallacy_Quiz/ So, what's new since last post? It was a real challenge to make it happen, but Fallacy Quiz is now officially a local multiplayer game!
Local Multiplayer!
Imagine playing alongside friends or family members, working together or against each other, trying to get everyone to choose the right answers or trying to get the high score for yourself. That's exactly what you can do with the brand-new local multiplayer mode!
Up to 4 players can join using controllers or the keyboard (WASD and arrows), each with their unique color and shape, visible on their hand pointer. By default there's no time limit so yo can debate each question with your friends, but you can use the custom mode to have the timer on for quick and chaotic games.
Use controllers? Oh yeah. The game now fully supports most standard controllers!
Controller Support
I added full controller support, it was needed for multiplayer, but it's really handy on solo mode too. When not using a mouse, a helpful visual cursor in the shape of a hand will guide you through the interface.
Visual improvements
I've added a new theme for expert mode to be able to differentiate and make this harder mode a bit more eerie. Plus, it looks real fancy in my opinion.
The paper pieces illustrations have undergone a stunning transformation! I've added wrinkles and reflections to give them a more realistic look. It's all in the details.
Finally, the overall lighting has been improved.
Other improvements
I've improved navigation in the Glossary to make sure you can go back to the index or exit more easily. I also decided to add a little text on pages you haven't discovered yet to make it clearer what's happening. Last but not least, some behind-the-scenes work has gone into fixing graphical issues and optimizing performance. You'll notice a smoother experience overall! Fallacy Quiz beta has now being played by students in classrooms, youtubers are making videos playing it and my friends harass me everyday about the next update, and it's not even out yet! Let's keep this going until the release, if you could wishlist the game it would help me tremendously. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2847380/Fallacy_Quiz/ I'm pretty much sure that the next announcement is going to be the release date, so stay tuned!
Hi! I'm back with a new development update. I've been getting a lot of feedback since the last one and I'm working hard to get to the final version of the game while taking your comments into account. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2847380/Fallacy_Quiz/ Fallacy Quiz is a game to learn to spot logical and rhetorical fallacies, it's getting closer and closer to completion. In this post, I'd like to share all the additions, changes and bug fixes since last post. Let's get into it!
New Features
Play the game inside the game? Do we live in a simulation?
The Fallacy Glossary addition was a big hit among testers. It's a simulation of a book. You unlock fallacy definitions while you play. Until now you had to finish a game and then go back to the main menu to check the glossary. People asked for definitions to be accessible during the game itself, and it's what was planned from the beginning, but I didn't want the definition to be shown outside of the book so I had to decide how to include the book during the gameplay.
The solution was quite funny but it was a real challenge to implement. When you want to check a definition, the game freezes and the camera zooms-out, turns out you were playing Fallacy Quiz on a virtual computer inside the game this whole time and the glossary is lying on the desk in front of you. The idea is to make it feel like you have a physical glossary that you can just check by pausing the game. I'm really satisfied with the effect, I had to model a 3D desk environment but it was worth it in my opinion. This was even more reality shattering when I was working on it on my computer!
This really changes the way you play since you can now check and understand why you failed or even why you got it right by chance.
Confetti
This might be the biggest announcement: there are now confetti when you successfully answer a question. Yeah, I know, it's okay if you stop reading here and go update the game, I understand you excitement, it's totally warranted.
Changes
Look and feel
I spent a lot of time refining the look of the 3D environments in the game when you check the glossary. It was a lot of tweaking to get it right, I think the end result is stunning.
But it's not fair sometimes!
The game was indeed not fair in some cases. Some fallacies are subsets or special cases of other fallacies. For instance an anecdotal evidence could be seen as a hasty generalization. So when there's a question about an anecdotal evidence you could have hasty generalization as a possible answer but the game would tell you you are wrong. To fix this I created an invisible system: groups to track fallacy similarity, so that fallacies that are too similar would not be offered as possible answers simultaneously. As a user it doesn't feel that different, if it wasn't for this post you might never know it's even there. But it will tremendously reduce those ambiguities and the game will feel smoother for it. Flip through that book!!! You can now keep the arrow keys pressed down to flip through the book. It's not a key feature, but it sure is a satisfying one.
Polished game selection screen
I'm still wasting time on the game selection screen, but I love it so much, it's like way too polished at this point. I changed the color scheme with a gradient for the background and added some particles this time around.
Fixes
- The sound effects are no longer glitching when using the pause menu.
- The issue with the expert mode that was unlocked multiple times is fixed.
- The infinite score glitch is patched (even if it was a funny one).
- And you can't have the same question twice anymore when you play on your sixth game (yeah it was a weird one).
- Oh. And all the typos... corrected. But I'm sure there are even more of them, so let me know!
Hello everyone! I'm super excited to share with you all the info about the latest dev updates of Fallacy Quiz. It's been an absolute joy to work on this project.
Fallacy Quiz is a game where you are challenged to identify logical and rhetorical fallacies in various statements. In this devlog, I'd like to show the new features, explain what was changed, some bug fixes that have been implemented based on beta players valuable feedback, and also share some info about the future of the project!
New Features
The Fallacy Glossary, a book simulation
This is clearly the highlight. I've created a virtual book filled with descriptions and examples of close to fifty rhetorical fallacies. This is now accessible within the game, allowing players to flip through pages just like in real life!
It's been an incredible learning experience for me as well, as it has deepened my understanding of logical fallacies, but also my technical know-how, because this book was a pain to make on the technical side. It's not a menu, it's an actual 3D book with realistic physics that you can interact with, even down to the sound of the pages flipping. The book can be explored using either your mouse or your keyboard. All the descriptions are available both in English and French.
Ive introduced a new feature as a follow up to the new glossary: pages from the Fallacy Glossary now have to be unlocked as you play the game. This means that you can read about the fallacies you already encountered and will have to play more games to fill out the glossary. This adds some challenge and lets you discover fallacies without being overwhelmed by a whole book of definitions from the get go.
Make your own rules, Custom Mode
Some players of the beta suggested to create a mode without time limits to be able to play with other people, discuss and debate about each statement at their own pace. It's a feature that has been highly requested, so I'm thrilled to finally include it in Fallacy Quiz. But I went even further. Players can now create their own entirely custom game modes by choosing the number of rounds, questions, using timers or not, game difficulty and more.
Changes
Fancy New Game Mode Selection Screen
Since I now have a custom mode and a glossary, the title-screen started to feel a bit crowded with a row of six buttons. That's why I've added a new and improved mode selection screen with super fancy illustrated, parallax effect-fueled buttons.
These interactive buttons are made out of drawings placed on different planes, giving the whole interface an amazing visual appeal, in my opinion!
Content fixes
Content did not change too much yet. Thanks to your feedback I updated the names of some fallacies and corrected some statements. But I am planning to add new content in the future, including two to three times the amount of questions. This will provide players with even greater challenges and opportunities to test their knowledge of logical fallacies. Stay tuned for these exciting news!
Bug Fixes & Improvements
Based on beta players feedback, I have addressed several bugs that were affecting the gameplay experience. These bug fixes should make the game run smoother and more enjoyable for everyone. There are still some known bugs in the game, for instance some sound effects not being paused in the pause menu.
Thank you all so much for your interest about Fallacy Quiz.I'm always eager to hear what you think about the project, as it helps me make improvements and develop new features that will enhance the gaming experience. If you have suggestions, please don't hesitate to share them with me! I am committed to making Fallacy Quiz one of the best logical fallacies trivia game out there. Go Wishlist the game and share the page everywhere, bye!
