Awesome Item/Crafting Guide from our Community

Hello,
i wanted to hint out that that the gamer Kipriou made an awesome guide for items and structures in Beasts of Prey.

It's highly recommended that new players take a look as it can really get you started a bit faster as the guide also covers the basics like gathering and shows you how you advance through the different crafting tiers of the game.

Again, many thanks go to Kipriou for taking the time and giving everyone a detailed guide on our crafting system.

Have a look!

Update 21 - A New World 40% Discount!

This update is one of the biggest Beasts of Prey has ever received. It took us quite longer as so many drastic changes involved forced us also to update/replace a lot of the games main code. With the new game-world the game also received a new UI and updated game-mechanics. A lot of code has been rewritten from scratch to improve performance and to incorporate the new UI into the game.

For new players:
Getting started in Beasts of Prey can be very hard, especially when playing on the official servers with others. It's recommended that you learn the basics of building, conquering and surviving. The basic steps are gathering some wood and stones and finding a suitable place for building. To prevent other players from stealing you should build at least 2-4 foundations and cover them with palisades. Many players figured out that having multiple levels of defense can greatly discourage raiders. You are also able to build turrets that will automatically shoot other players on sight.

To access the higher tiers of crafting you want a crafting table and later on a CNC table. The table saw can greatly reduce the grind because it will give you 3 wood planks for each wood log you turn into. Gathering stone can be tedious, so make sure you get oil pumps at some point, they allow you to produce fuel which powers mining drills that will produce both stones and ores. Fuel can be produced through the refinery, at that point you might want to add some sulfur to the refinery so it will produce plastic instead of fuel.

Important for tribes :
Since you don't have coordinates or mini maps with only a compass you can get lost quite quickly in the new world. It's recommended to get a tent up for your fellow tribe mates as soon as possible so your friends don't spawn in random locations all the time. The new map has a lot of landmarks (Vulcan, rivers, waterfalls, swamps, caves etc.) so use that to your advantage.

Changes :
- A new game-world featuring oceans, rivers, cliffs, Vulcan, swamps, waterfalls and canyons.
- Several SpeedTree(tm) Trees have been integrated into the world.
- New foliage has been added to the game-world.
- Several local sound effects have been added.
- New grass and ground textures.
- New water shaders for ocean, rivers and swamps.
- New Main Menu Design.
- New In-game Menu accessible through a single key (TAB).
- New Crafting, Armour Slots, Inventory System, Hot-key System.
- New In-game Video Options.
- New Memory Management for both client and server.
- New Network routines to further minimize latency.
- New day/night cycle.
- Several PostEffects have been added to the game which can be enabled/disabled based on your computers performance.
- Switched rendering to linear deferred.
- Several structures and dinosaurs received visual adjustments to improve their appearance.
- New Random-Spawn System. You no longer spawn in predefined spots. The system looks for empty places to spawn you in case you do not have a bed.
- New Dinosaur Spawning Algorithm. Small Dinosaurs are now more common, the larger ones have a smaller spawning chance.
- New Inventory System based on Slots. Your personal inventory now is limited to max. 24 Slots.
- New Stone Spawn System. Instead of "chopping stone with a knife" you now can find smaller stones around the world to get started in the crafting process.
- Several smaller trees and bushes can no longer be used to gain wood-logs, stick to the bigger trees.
- Amount of grass in the world has been drastically reduced.
- Wall Upgrades now require a crafting table.
- When picking up smaller stones there is a 4% chance to pick-up iron ore instead. (can be increased through skills up to 12%)
- Crafting raid ladders requires now a crafting table.
- "Structure Removal Tool" renamed to Destruction Hammer. Requires now a workbench.
- Torch removed from the game and replaced with a camp-fire that will increase your stamina recovery and heal you up slowly while standing close to it. Don't get burned.
- Coordinate system has been removed. Instead you have to rely on your compass.
- The compass now always shows your flag if you placed one.
- You can only have 1 flag per server.
- Flags no longer require maintenance.
- Flags can be captured again.
- In the new UI under Options you can now remove your flag from the game-world.

Changes 21.1
- Fixed foundation placement.
- Fixed server list glitch.
- Fixed missing damage on lava.

Update 20 - The Ankylosaurus - Colin from JurassicPark:Aftermath joins!

In this patch we are introducing the Ankylosaurus. This dinosaur was previously created for the Stomping Land, we are happy about Vlad's involvement in Beasts of Prey as the quality of the models speak for them-self. To animate them we hired Kiko from Borderlands/Star Wars:The old republic to give the model some tripple AAA look and feel. The engine got updated to the latest Unity 5 version which is now officially released. In addition to that DirectX 11 is back on Windows while MAC / Linux versions now still work fine with DirectX11 features enabled on Windows Builds. Turrets in the game no longer react only on range, but will change target based on what they can "see". Also their view-range has been increased making raids much harder. To further improve this palisades now cause damage when standing on top of them.

The day/night cycle got adjusted to bring you some extra light during the night and to improve the graphics which are now based on direct light, ambient light and reflection light. The rendering-mode has been switch from forward to deferred which results in a better performance with multiple light sources around. In addition to these changes several bugs you reported have been fixed.

We are happy to announce that Colin from the Jurassic Park:Aftermath Project has joined us to create a new map for Beasts of Prey. Within the next weeks we will update you on this progress. With Vlad we already have a very talented 3D Artist, last week we talked to Robert Fabiani who also is very talented to create the Stegosaurus for us. With Vlad, Robert, Colin and Kiko on-board we have now a stunning team that is able to deliver AAA models, animations and game-worlds.

Patch Notes :
- Ankylosaurus has been added to the game.
- Updated client & server to the latest unity engine.
- Optimized client to improve performance slightly.
- Adjust day/night cycle and graphic effects.
- The night is now slightly brighter on close range but darker on the far.
- Turrets now take line of sight into account, no longer just aiming at the closest target.
- Turret range has been increased from 45m to 65m.
- Palisades now cause damage when walking/standing on them.
- Adjusted client-code to address vanishing walls/structures (Please confirm!)
- Fixed a bug in the main menu.
- Server now loads and stores data much faster.
- Fixed Fall-Damage.
- Fixed several visuals on structures.
- Fixed several animations on the dinosaurs.
- Official servers received a full wipe.

Hotfix for GFX issues applied.

Hello everyone,
after yesterdays patch i received a few reports about graphic issues. I applied a Hotfix today that solves this. Also todays Hotfix allows you to recapture a base as the owner of the base which will set all structures again to yours (if it got raided previously).

Official - Please welcome Vlad Konstantinov to Beasts of Prey.

Hello everyone,

i announced/hinted it out earlier but i'm glad to announce that i had a talk with Vladislav Konstantinov to supply us with new dinosaurs within the next 6 months (3-4 or more if possible) and that we actually signed a contract 3 days ago. I admire his work and i'm very excited to work with him!

Vlad already supplied me with the Ankylosaurus which i will show you next days. The new model still needs to be animated and while i'm negotiating already with an animator i like to ask for your help - if anyone of you has the skill/background to animate dinosaurs i will be happily offer you a contract for the upcoming work. You can email me at burnz@beastsofprey.com, please include some samples of your work. I currently plan to get the model into the game within the next 4 weeks.

I agreed with Vlad that our community can choose the dinosaurs he will be working on, the next days one of our moderators will organize everything with you so please be sure to visit our forums. We are a bit in a hurry as we like to get things started so at the end of the next week development for another model should be started.

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Update 19.6 - Open Letter To The Dinosaur God Players!

Now this week was seriously the worst week i ever had since i started working on Beasts of Prey. First there was a memory leak in the server haunting us, then the dinosaurs went absolutely nuts and to tip it off the patch yesterday broke the game. What was supposed to be a smooth patch that allowed me to relax at least a day or two turned into daily 16 hours shifts and patching the hell out of the game. On top of that the dinosaur god decided to shut-down the internet-connection and threw a huge Storm on the town where i'm living in.

Now whoever was cutting the internet here and is responsible for this awful weather and everything else i can currently blame someone for let me tell you : You won't stop me from making this a nice little survival game that people enjoy to play. So here we go, solved this annoying memory leak, rewrote the tribe system and squeezed out more FPS of the client and added a bunch of features while my web-browser kept telling me "Server not found, keep working!".

I also hired another 3D Artist, let's name him Vlad, to supply us within the next 6 months with 3-4 more dinosaur models that our community can choose - starting with the Ankyosaurus which is just missing animations at this point. A more detailed announcement will be made next days on our forums.

The Tribe System is now fully Steam-Integrated. To play with your friends simply create a group in Steam, invite everyone and choose the group as Tribe in-game. Quite simple, yet powerfull because at any point you can switch groups and everything you build will be available for the tribe you currently have selected. To build structures that are not shared with your tribe simply select "Solo (No Tribe)" and the structure can only be used by you.

On a personal note i'd like to apologize to all the new players who purchased the game during the last week, i feel ashamed that the game went on sale and then i messed it up a few days later with the worst patch ever - so again, i'm very for that and learned my lesson.

Both servers have been patched to the latest version and appear to be running nice and smoothly now. Good night, everyone!

Patch Changes :
- Fixed dinosaur spinning when attacking.
- Dinosaur packs no longer walk in a straight line.
- Fixed bed spawns.
- Prepared client/server network for new tribe system based on SteamFriends/Groups.
- Added menu option to select your tribe at the main screen. To create a Tribe simply create a new Steam Group and invite your friends. Existing Steam Groups can be chosen in-game.
- When building, everything constructed is now constructed with your current selected Tribe, which means access is granted to all members to doors and chests excluding the metal safe.
- You can switch to "Solo" to construct structures only accessible to you, this gives you full-control who will have access to your structures.
- Fixed several bugs in the main screen menu.
- Properly aligned the main menu to the screen.
- Optimized performance again by tweaking some graphics settings.
- Fixed a serious server bug that stopped it from saving structures and inventory.
- Fixed a memory leak that was haunting the game for the last week.
- Tribe members now show up on the compass as a green dot.
- Tribe members now appear with a green hud instead of the default white one.
- Capture System is back! You can now capture the flag again if it's not yours.
- Removed Login System, instead we are using your Steam Name.
- You no longer need an internet connection to play the game.
- Due to the changes all servers have received structure wipe.

Patch 19 - Smarter AI, Better FPS More Survival!

This is one of the biggest updates Beasts of Prey has received. The AI and the path-finding of the AI have been completely rewritten from scratch. Dinosaurs are now aware of walls and platforms and are able to enter your base. They will hunt and fight each other based on their breed, group-up & roam through the island.

You will no longer be safe anywhere on the map as dinosaurs now are able to wander around and reach every location on the map. The game-world has turned into a huge wild-life simulation, the official servers now are populated with a minimum of 500 dinosaurs at all times. In addition to these changes the game-client has been heavily optimized to increase your FPS. Several bugs and annoyances have been fixed which have been reported by our community. Loot-tables have been revised to make hunting dinosaurs and cannibals worthwhile. Health no longer recovers automatically, you either have to eat something or craft bandages to recover your health.

One important change that has always been requested was combat-logging. Now all characters will remain in the game-world for 20 seconds when you log-off so always ensure that you are in a safe place when leaving the game. With the system for dinosaurs in place we will move forward within the next weeks and bring you a new UI, dinosaur pets and the ability for dinosaurs to damage/attack your base. You are welcome to join the discussion for the development process on the Steam forums. We hope that everyone enjoys this update! Have fun!

- Improved FPS on all 3 quality settings.
- Adjusted several shaders to improve graphics quality and performance.
- Several post-effects have been adjusted to improve visual quality of the game.
- Wildlife improvement: Birds now fly a bit lower and will visit you more frequently.
- Wildlife improvement: The quetzals no longer fly on the ground or through trees.
- Day/Night cycle has been changed to 120 minutes per in-game day.
- The night cycle is now a lot brighter.
- Fixed Day/Night synchronization.
- Server AI has been completely rewritten/replaced resulting in smarter and roaming dinosaurs that actually fight each other and hunt you in packs.
- Cannibals have been nerfed. Reduced their damage and run-speed.
- Several attack distances and damage has been adjusted on dinosaurs to match the new AI behavior.
- When logging out your character will remain in the game-world for 30 seconds.
- Your character now longer recovers health automatically. You have to cook food to recover health. (Roasted Bacon, Roasted Meat, Dino Sausages)
- Hit-boxes and Hit-detection has been revised and tweaked to be more accurate.
- Loading Timer has been increased to 30 seconds for low-end computers.
- Random Spawn Point have been shifted to the outer regions of the island and separated with bigger distance.
- Rockets received a slight nerf. Added 1 beryllium to the requirements.
- You now receive 15 Bullets instead of 10 when crafting ammunition for snipers.
- You now receive 25 Bullets instead of 20 when crafting ammunition for rifles.
- You now receive 30 Bullets instead of 20 when crafting ammunition for pistols.
- Client now logs you in on launch.
- Server population now shows Low/Medium/High Population.
- Lobby has been recoded to boost FPS, several bugs have been fixed (mainly performance issues)
- You now start out with 3 Bandages after dying to heal up during the early game.
- You can now craft bandages.
- The persistantObjects.dat file is now depending on the server version. If you like to re-import structures from old versions simply rename the file to reflect the latest version.
