What's in this update?
- A new, cooler, score screen. It looks like handwriting!
- 4 new tracks!
- A few quality of life improvements; now you can rebind the UI controls and use the Space bar for playing notes, and there's a wide mode available.
What's this about a new score screen?
Well, before the score screen was very utilitarian, it had a lot of info, but you had to scroll through it and it wasn't as exciting. It was also very quiet as it didn't have any music.
Now, when you've finished a track and want to view your score, the score sheet is dropped onto your screen, and the scores are handwritten one by one. It's a pretty cool effect, I had to write numbers backwards with a black-to-red digital pen to make it work, but it was definitely worth it. Now viewing your score is a much more pleasant experience.
It also now has some music to go along with it!
What are the new tracks?
A score to settle! - This is the music that goes in the score screen; as such it's also available in the demo version. It has three playable variants other than the empty one used for the score screen itself. The first is on the easier side but not too easy. The second is pretty hard as you play a barrage of highly randomized and echoing notes. The third one is ridiculously hard as the echoes are changed into ghost notes.
4~ Quatre notes - You've asked for it, and I hear you. This collection is exclusively 4-key! First track is on the easier side but still a bit tricky since some notes fall in the offbeats. The second is a step up, and the third is getting a bit challenging, but nothing too bad if you're experienced with 4-key games.
Marcia incessante del progresso - This was a pretty fun experiment, the idea is that the tempo of the song always increases until it is double what it was at the beginning, after which it halves and loops back. The collection as a whole is not too hard though, the first two tracks are 4-key, with the first one being quite beginner friendly, and the second, third, and fourth tracks are the same version of the song, except with 4, 6 and 8 keys respectively. It's a fun track if you want to practice going from 4k to 6k.
And finally, the collection I'm most excited to share with you...
Distant Duet (by fizzd) - This collection is coming from a rhythm game I really like, Rhythm Doctor! They've been happy to collab, so I made a cover of one of my favorite tracks from the game, Distant Duet, a beautiful piano track.
To pay homage to Rhythm Doctor's one-button gameplay, and to have a really beautiful track for those new to rhythm games, the first track in the collection only uses one key. You essentially have to tap the same notes you would've had to in Rhythm Doctor! Except in this version it is significantly easier. Still, I recommend checking our Rhythm Doctor if you like this track, it's an amazing rhythm game.
The second track on the other hand has you play the piano melody. It's really fun, definitely on the medium-harder side but it's quite different from other tracks in EternAlgoRhythm as it doesn't have any randomization.
What's coming next?
I'll be working a bit more on my upcoming game, which I will be announcing soon. It's going to be a pretty fun puzzle game with replayable co-op multiplayer (as well as a solid single player mode).
But this doesn't mean development on EternAlgoRhythm has stopped, on the contrary. The next major feature I want to add is some leaderboards, and I'll also want to make a few more tracks every now and then. You can expect this next update sometime this summer.
By the way, if there's any type of track you'd like to play let me know, I really like having some inspiration from requests. I should also be able to sneak in any feature requests you have if they're not too complex.
