Hey everyone!
In the last few weeks, Ive made a lot of progress on Solace Creek. Id estimate that around half of the game is finished. Since the first level, Ive added two more large areas and also gone back to refine the first level with more assets and details. Some of those updates are already available in the current demo version.
Finding the Heart of Solace Creek
Im also getting closer to the atmosphere I want the game to have. When I start a game project, I have ideas, references, a visionbut a lot of what makes a game work only comes together while building it for me. The atmosphere, the pacing, the way different elements interactthese things reveal themselves in the process. Solace Creek has always been a horror game, but the more I work on it, the more I realize that mystery plays an equally big role. And sometimes, even a moment of levity can make the eerie parts hit harder. A good example is this small companion you can come across:

Finding the Sound of Solace Creek
Ive also been working a lot on the music. Not only on the overall vibe I want to go for, but also how to incorporate it in the game. The soundtrack has to build tension without always being in the foreground, which makes it a challenge, but I think Im finding the right balance. I recently finished a track for a new area that I really like. It also includes a small homage to one of the inspirations behind the game:
