A trend is an experimental feature that may affect match styles across different periods. Currently, there are four default trends spanning from 1870 to 2034 (From Aggressive to Defensive):
Pre-1960:
Aggressive - This trend reflects the early days of the sport when teams embraced an attack-minded approach. You can find there are a lot of high-scoring matches during this era.
1960s to 1998:
Normal - The influence of total football and Italian's Catenaccio style ended the Aggressive approach.
2002 to 2018:
Defensive - Particularly following Greece's EURO victory, which emphasized a strategy of strong defense.
2022 to 2034:
Normal - Reinstating a balanced approach similar to earlier trends.
You can check out the trends over the years by navigating to the "Records" tab. You can also add or delete a trend there.
Whenever the simulator is unable to find an existing trend, it will automatically create a new one, with the "Normal" approach being the most commonly generated style.
While this feature may increase the likelihood of certain outcomes, both teams' elo ratings and other attributes remain the key factor in how a match result unfolds.
