HANGAR 8 v2.0 UPDATE IS HERE!Hello There! cool_seagull It has been a while since the last update, and I have been hard at work trying to get version 2.0 to you amazing people! This is the biggest update yet, and I had to learn some things, so it took a bit of time. I would have loved to get this out sooner, but unfortunately I got a little bit sick and my full-time job got in the way of development. Hopefully I will be able to transition into full-time game development in the next year or two.
Thank you to all the people who have submitted bug reports and have let me know about issues they have had. I also want to say thank you (and sorry) to all the content creators who I had the honour of watching and seeing bugs for the first time live on stream! xD
Without further ado, here are the list of changes to HANGAR 8!
Game Changes
- 8 New Anomalies have been added to the game!
- Overdue update to the in-game HANGAR 8 logo.
- UI should now scale to larger screen sizes.
- Added AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.2 to the options menu.
- Improved the contrast of the text and background for crew logs for better readability.
- You now have to click and hold to confirm when selecting a character in-case you change your mind about whether you want to be feminine or masculine for an attempt. (Added due to streamer requesting it when I was lurking in chat)
- The controls are now shown to the player after selecting their character during the opening scene.
- There was an issue where if the player was still learning the mechanics of the game, they may go backwards and "discover" an anomaly without ever doing so. There is now a checkpoint system that should reduce the chances of this happening. However, due to the way the game works, false positives are still possible. (Where you get it "right" but for the wrong reasonlike thinking the lights flickered differently this time, or some other red herring for example.)
- Increased contrast of undiscovered and collected key items when pressing Q to check key item inventory.
- Changed the anomaly symbols to look more like arrows, and added a hint when interacted with to assist in learning the rules of the game.
- The ship flying outside now passes by more frequently.
- Added and rewrote some pause-menu hints.
- When you pause, it now shows your Level and Loop number, where as before it was just the Total Loop number. This also makes it easier to tell what level you are currently on before you make a guess and check if you went up or down a level to see if you were correct.
- Added new environment interactions and sounds.
- If the player does not have a flashlight, the backup flashlight in the loop will now flicker as they get near in order to draw attention to it.
- Increased visibility of T-Shaped handle by increasing brightness of the red lights on either side.
- When you try open the Medical Bay door when it's locked, the spark will now cause a more noticeable light.
- Red Means Scary anomaly would disappear if you stayed away for long enough. This would lead to some people missing the anomaly, so I changed the design to no longer disappear. You can sneak past, just don't get too close!
- Let Me Out anomaly has a particle effect added to it to increase visibility.
- The Orb anomaly range increased from 3m to 3.5m
- Nyctophobia anomaly spooky audio distance increased from 15m to 30m, which should make it a little louder.
- Eye See You anomaly will now both look at, and additionally follow you once it sees you.
- Haunting Hygiene anomaly now rewards those who were curious enough to explore accordingly.
- There is a new fancy shield shader in the hangarthis is related to a bug fix that potentially caused crashes.
- Edited the Captain's Log to try make the rules clearer.
Pest Control
- I've been working on a few optimisations, simplifying collision shapes, and fixing coding mistakes that will hopefully increase performance and reduce crashes.
- The zoom feature was broken. It was originally working on my system, and probably worked for some new players, but for most people it seems like it was broken. It should now be fixed... I hope. /o\
- One of the spawn locations for the hangar codes was bugged, making it very difficult to actually pick up. This has now been fixed.
- If you waited in the Medical Bay long enough and looked in the right direction, you would see the ship outside fly right through as it resets it's position xD this is now fixed.
- There was a bug with the save system where if you continued a game from the hangar, the game time would be reset to zero. Resuming a game from the loop was working 100% correctly. However this would mean that when you finished the game when you continued in the hangar, you would get an incorrect time and most likely get the achievement for escaping in less than 15min. This should now be fixed.
- If you continued a game, the escape attempts would be incremented by one as if you were starting a new game. This should now be fixed.
- Fixed a bug where some game and display options were not saving correctly.
- The "End of Log" achievement was not displaying as achieved in-game, even if you have achieved it on Steam. This should now be fixed.
- Fixed a bug which made it so the camera zoom didn't work, and zooming should now work when holding Right Mouse Button or V.
- Fixed a bug where anomalies would still be counted toward the total discovered anomalies if you had all anomalies mode turned on.
- Fixed a bug where the achievement "I Love It Here!" would only trigger once you had rolled for a new anomaly after discovering all anomalies. You should now get the achievement the moment you discover all anomalies.
- The times killed by an anomaly was counting up when it shouldn't. It should now display the correct count.
- Red Means Scary anomaly nowlooks at the player correctly during the kill animation.
- If you reset your data while having a saved game, you would still have a continue button when you went back to the main menu. If you clicked it, it would crash the game. This has been fixed, you should no longer see a continue button after resetting your data.
- Fixed a spot where you could get stuck near the Science Lab.
- Fixed another one of the places you could get stuck in the Medical Bay. (If you get stuck somewhere, please take a screenshot report it. Note that spamming crouch and walking into the open might get you free.)
- There was a bug with the shield shader in the hangar that was the potential cause for some crashesthis should now be fixed with the new shader.

- Added an invert mouse controls accessibility option into the controls section of the options menu.
- Added an environmental sound effect to the crew quarters and hangar areas.
- Made the backup flashlight in the loop slightly more visible.
- Buffed the flashlight light angle from 50 degrees to 60 degrees.
- Added a new reference to the Easter Egg related to an certain anomaly.
Bug Fixes
- Modified collision shapes in order to reduce the likelihood of getting stuck. (Try crouch and sprint spamming to get out of these situations.)
- Fixed a bug with the interact cursor continuing to show when it shouldn't.
- Fixed a bug where the interact cursor would show when looking at a decorative item that had an intractable item behind it.
- Fixed a bug that made the toilet flush sound reset if you spammed interact.

Firstly, I want to say thank you to everyone who's purchased HANGAR 8 and left a review, as we've recently hit the 10 review milestone on Steam! It's been challenging as a solo dev releasing their first game, and I really appreciate everyone's support with reviewing and getting the word out about my game! I can't describe how great it is to see people having fun playing something I've created
Now! Onto the patch notes:
- Added a Camera Zoom feature which you can use by pressing Right Mouse Button or V
- Added sparks to the environment in order to improve the puzzle gameplay.
- Added a drop-shadow to text and interaction cursor to increase visibility on white and bright backgrounds.
- Added hints to the pause menu.
- In-game hints will stay on-screen for longer.
- Ghoul and RoboHead speed increased due to previous player speed buff.
- Adjusted the volume of various sounds.
- Fixed a bug that would cause RoboHead to stop playing it's audio.
- Fixed a bug that would make the Ghoul overshoot the player when attacking.

- Glitched text in logs now have a fancy effect to clearly show they are glitched.
- The drone/spaceship outside the station will now pass the window more frequently, making it easier to notice when you're on the reference level.
- Added a new hint to the hangar for when you've got all the items you need to escape.
- Modified the camera movement of the escape animation slightly.
Bug Fixes
- Key items you have collected will no longer spawn when you continue a previous game. (Note that the items you have not collected will spawn in a new random location when you continue from a save.)
- Hopefully fixed a few places you could get stuck in geometry.
[ 2024-12-07 14:19:15 CET ] [ Original post ] Performance Improvements & Auto Save FeatureHello there. It's been a while since the last patch note, how are you? Is that a new shirt?! Me? Oh, I've just added an auto-save system and an extra 100fps to my anomaly horror game!
Game Changes
- Auto Save System: In response to feedback, I have added a way for players to continue a game they have previously stopped playing. The game will automagically save after every loop, and when you enter the hangar. So if you feel like it, you can take a break and continue playing later. (Note that the Auto-Save System is not available when Speedrun Mode is active. Also, if you start a game with All Anomalies Mode active and then turn the mode off, you will not be able to continue a previous game that had the mode on.)
- Various Performance Improvements: HANGAR 8 is my first game as a solo developer. Due to this I have made far too many errors with regards to programming, as well as a lot of other game development tasks required to actually get a game from design to playable. I have been doing my best to learn ways to optimize my games, and I have now dramatically improved the performance of the game. Sorry to everyone who has had to struggle with the performance, and thank you for your patience!

- Moved Speedrun Mode toggle to Extras menu.
- Added a hint to the hangar.
- Scarlet Signal Anomaly Now stops spinning in addition to it's light colour changing to red in order to assist those with colour blindness or colour deficiency to identify the anomaly.
- Increased the size of the interaction hitbox of the ship lift controls and the control lever to make them easier to interact with.
- Unfortunately reducing the size of the space station is not realistically possible due to how I have developed the game. There are also some design reasons for how long the hallway is, as looking down into a dark hallway and not knowing what is at the end is quite intimidating and subtly adds to the psychological horror. So as a response to the run being quite long if you need to go all the way back when there's an anomaly, movement speed has been slightly increased again.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed a bug with the collision box of the showers that prevented you from entering.
- If you are crouching when you read a log, you would stay crouching and have to press crouch again to stand up. You will now stand up after reading the log if you were crouching before.
- The links in End-Game credits now work when clicked.

- Modified the wall decals for hints to be more noticeable at the end of the looping hall and during an anomaly.
- Increased the interaction hitbox size for the spaceship.
- Multiple minor optimizations to physics and occlusions.
- Slightly increased the size of the interact cursor icon. (NOTE: If you use a resolution higher than 1080p, try increase the cursor size to help with noticing interactable items.)
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed a character model bug that occurred when you were killed by an anomaly.
- Fixed misaligned walls in the crew quarters.
- The interact cursor will now correctly adapt to the cursor size chosen in options.

Game Changes
- Added decals on the doorways to hint at which direction to go if you spot an anomaly, or don't spot an anomaly. I have no idea how much this will actually help, but hopefully it does?
- More lighting adjustments in the Medical Bay.
- Added decals on the control panel in the hangar to hint at what to interact with.
- Flipped the pentagram. This was an asset included in one of three asset packs I used by Synty. I used it because I personally have no opinion on which way some spooky pixels are positioned, just that they give a creepy space cult-like vibe. I did however notice that some people would have strong responses to an inverted pentagram. If I flip the asset upside down and add another decal of an infinity symbol in the middleI've kept the weird cult-like visual, while not offending certain people.

Yup, that's right, HANGAR 8 is on Speedrun.com!
I wanted to keep getting the "Escape Artist" achievement casual, so the timer gets paused when you pause the game by default. If speedrun mode is enabled, this is no longer the case.

- Added an option to toggle "All Anomalies Active". This will make it so when an anomaly is picked, it is picked from all 50 anomalies. This will make it so there is a possibility of the same anomaly being picked twice in a row. This is disabled by default, but can be enabled in the extras menu.
- Added a decal to visually show in-game that you have all anomalies active.
- Added an arrow to help prevent players getting turned around in the dark.
- Increased time for heavy breathing to start while sprinting from 8 seconds to 15 seconds, and black out animation from 12 seconds to 20 seconds. I have also increased the stamina regeneration rate. You can sprint more now, but remember to slow down sometimes. You might catch an anomaly you would otherwise run past.
- Added environmental details to an anomaly that could kill you. This is in order to hint at how to survive the anomaly.
- Changed wording on quit confirmation from "Continue" to "Back"
- Increased the size of two sneaky anomalies slightly in order to make them more identifiable.
- Turned on a light in the Medical Bay to highlight an environmental hint.
- Added Achievement Decals to the Medical Bay. Note that these are tied to your player data, not your Steam achievements.
Bug Fixes:
- Pressing escape now closes the opened logbook correctly.
- Fixed a Steam Cloud Sync error when resetting player data within the game.
Dev Note:
Thank you so much to everyone who has played my first game and worked through any challenges or frustrations. I really appreciate all the feedback I have been getting, and I've been doing my best to address the issues and bugs that have come up. Just knowing you're playing the game means the world to me, and seeing content created around it is honestly an amazing feeling!
That said, platforms like Steam are very numbers-driven. Through research, Ive found that one of the biggest challenges for new indie developers is getting reviewsand its often recommended to ask for them, as getting the first 10 reviews really helps with exposure of the game. While it feels a bit cringe for me to ask, Im passionate about making game development my full-time job!

Bug Fixes:
- If you stood in a certain spot within the restroom toilet stall, some geometry would disappear. This should no longer happen.
- Possibly, hopefully, have fixed another player collision bug. I hope.
- If there is no anomaly on level 8 and you move forward, an anomaly should no longer spawn causing you to go back to level 7 if you try enter hangar 8.

- Made a key item more easily identifiable.
- Added hints for when you've picked up key items.
- Increased reach from 1.7m to 2m (You got some looong arms now, all the better to pick things up with.)
- Moved a flashlight location.
- Adjusted the stamina system by splitting it into two stages. Stage 1 is heavy breathing, stage 2 adds the visual effect on top of heavy breathing.
- Added a sound effect for when you regain your stamina.
Bug Fixes:
- The "out of breath" effect should no longer play during the credits.

[ 2024-10-03 15:45:30 CET ] [ Original post ] HANGAR 8 v1.0.3 Patch NotesHello there! Thank you to everyone who has been playing the game, and sorry to those who have been frustrated by bugs. I am working hard to try reproduce and fix any bugs that are being reported (or that I happen to notice while watching people play.) It's difficult as a solo part-time developer to find all the bugs and glitched, but I will do my best to get them fixed as soon as I can.
Here is the first batch of game changes and bug fixes that will hopefully improve the game.
Game Updates:
- Reduced the volume of the "out of breath" sound when sprinting for too long, as it was a bit too loud.
- Flashlight angle increased by about 10 degrees to help with spotting anomalies in the dark.
- Hint added for when you escape the medical bay and you do not have a flashlight yet.
- Changed the default FoV to 80 for improved gameplay as 90 was too zoomed out. If you have played before, your Field of View will still be 90 unless you changed it, as settings are saved per user.
Bug Fixes:
- Fixed a Menu Interface bug when trying to type in a maximum fps limit.
- Fixed a bug that occurred after getting killed by an anomaly that would not properly reset the player's camera and position. This would cause collision errors.
- Fixed a bug that would happen if you got killed by an anomaly and you were crouching. The camera should no longer clip through the floor or be misaligned during animations.
Please note that if you have played before, the next time you launch the game it will restart itself after loading for the first time. This is normal, as the game is removing any old files that could cause issues with the update. Your progress should not be affected by this.

- Investigate: Navigate through Hangar 00 and take note of every detail.
- Survive: Explore floors 01 to 08, each filled with horrifying anomalies. Identify anomalies and choose your path—move forward if nothing is amiss, or retreat to avoid danger.
- Collect: Gather key items scattered across the space station as they will help you escape this looping hell.
- Escape: Reach Hangar 08 without anomalies and with all key items to unlock your way out!

- 50 Unique anomalies to discover, but beware as some are deadly!
- Collect the 6 key items required to escape!
- Find and read the 6 logbooks hidden throughout the space station!
- Achievements to gain and player stats to track, such as fastest escape time and total anomalies guessed!
