behind the scenes: Jin's story

Greetings psychlines! This week, weve got something special from behind the scenes to share with you: a flash fic we wrote when we first started solidifying Jins character. Its set about two weeks before the game starts. We thought it might be fun to see where the character started and how their voice has changed. The story also gives a sneak peek at some details from Jins life that arent in the demo as well as some more of whats going on in their head. Enjoy and let us know what you think! It pays the bills and thats the important part. And sometimes it can be nice. When I look past all the selling and upselling and cross-selling, and just focus on the people. Its been nice to learn about clients and be in a position to offer helping advice. For example, this older lady came in with her grandkid to get matching nanobot-animated tattoos. That was so sweet! They were happy and it was harmless and fun. (And I got paid a ton for bringing in two customers.) Right, trying to focus on the human aspect. Its hard to ignore the money. Especially when Im barely scraping by. Im hardly doing better than paycheck-to-paycheck at this point. Ive been pushed out of the apartment I can no longer afford into one a few floors down that I can barely afford. Its hard not to think about money when my budget passed tight a month ago and is well on its way to suffocating. Ive thought about giving up Nibbles to a friend. Ive thought about it a lot. But Im worried that faced with this wall of problems on my own, Ill never make it to the other side. I need a bit of love, compassion, and companionship, and Nibbles has always been there for me. Giving her up would be worse than deprival, it would be tearing out a piece of my heart. Im trying to stay positive. Really, I swear. Things are slowly starting to look better, especially with this new job. It pays better, the hours arent bad, and my boss is only 70% the worst. I get to talk to people, get to know them. In not too long, Ill hopefully have saved enough to move someplace better. Im trying to fill myself with hope and tie it into a raft to carry me onwards. Maybe it wont be today or tomorrow, but one day soon, I think Ill wake up and know deep in my heart that things will get better. That they are getting better. That I am pulling myself back together one day at a time.

The Storyteller's Festival & Exciting Demo Update!

Salutations body mod sellers! Were so excited to announce that we were selected for the Storyteller Festival, hosted by Two and a Half Studios. To celebrate our inclusion, were releasing some updates to our demo! Heres a rundown of the updates: Weve added a ton of new art, including a new background, an updated background, and an all new character! This means we have three new scenes in the demo (one featuring the new character). Weve also added two new musical tracks for your ears to enjoy. In response to feedback, weve added loading options for checkpoints and manual saves (as opposed to only manual saves) and an exit to main menu option (from which you can start a new game if youd like). And, of course, we've fixed a swathe of bugs and typos Theres a lot thats hard to notice until youve got so many more eyes on a game! Thank you so much for your support so far. only a few days until demo release

Hello body mod salespeople! As we wrap up the final touches on our demo, I want to take a moment to chat about the client interviews in Quality Dreams, Reasonably Priced. These sessions really make up the heart of the game. They hold key moments where we ask you to learn about someone else and empathize with them, before then deciding whether to put their wellbeing ahead of your characters. For some clients, the decision is easy; for some, you might start thinking of them one way and end a different way; and some lie in a moral grey zone, where just your understanding and biases are left to support your decision. Since these scenes are so critical to conveying the themes and emotions of the game, we put a lot of thought into how theyre crafted. Each client interview has a uniquely designed dialogue flow based on the clients personality and how they converse. Jin (the player character)s job is to understand others and communicate with them, so we shape dialogue options based on how Jin understands the clients conversation norms. The client then responds to these options based on their own feelings and understanding of the situation. Take Ocean, the first client you meet in the game, as an example. (And mild spoiler warning here for anyone wanting to go into the game completely blind.) Ocean is fairly straightforward, but he feels bit uneasy sharing about some topics. Theyre also often willing to give the benefit of the doubt, choosing to be cordial and open until someone proves him wrong. Because of this, Jin will slowly breach and issue, generally only diving in more if Ocean seems open to talking about it. On Oceans side, the game tracks how many times youve upset him or said something that they view as a red flag. This is the main thing that impacts Oceans willingness to sharehe starts out giving you a baseline of trust and then watches to see if you abuse it. This, and Oceans straightforward honesty, makes them one of the easier characters to talk to in the game. upcoming demo

Greetings sellers of all things body mod! Weve got some very exciting updates for the new year First and foremost, were preparing to release a demo of Quality Dreams, Reasonably Priced (QDRP) to Steam in the upcoming months. The reason for our demo launch is tied to our second exciting news item: QDRP will be participating in two upcoming festivals! Namely, The Storytellers Festival and the Womens Day Game Showcase. Well be dropping a demo to coincide with the festivals and will be extra active on our socials, so feel free to reach out to us there or by email! Wed love to hear your feedback on the demo Those of you wanting to go into the demo 100% blind stop reading here! Ill be going over some of its details next. In the demo, youll meet Jin, the protagonist. Youll get to experience some key scenes from the first three days of the game. These include meeting with and consulting two clients, having a performance review with your boss, and spending some quality time at home with your rabbit! While upselling functionality isnt ready to share yet, we will have a bit of budgeting available! The budgeting features will be basic, but they should give you a sense of what itll be like in the full game. The demo will include five characters (including Jin), one adorable rabbit, four backgrounds, just under 30k words, and just over 1000 choice options. Each scene has multiple endings, and decisions made in each scene will be felt throughout the game. Your relationships with characters are tracked separately, and in the full game, they can influence each others opinions of you. Hopefully youre as excited to try the demo as we are to share it with you! Stay tuned for future updates

Work at a body modification clinic in a cyberpunk tower-city. Play as Jin, a salesperson advising clients on mods. Making little money aside from what you earn on commission, save up enough to afford your sick rabbit's surgery in two weeks. Watch your decisions ripple through the lives of each character you meet.

Clients from all walks of life visit the clinic. As you speak with them and uncover their secrets, you'll have to decide if they should get the mods they seek. Choose between morals and your bottom line, and impact the client’s future as well as your own.

Each decision you make ripples out into the world, changing the lives of your clients and coworkers. Watch the results of your actions play out in a responsive world.

Through your conversations with characters, you may develop positive or negative relationships with them. Learn about your clients and coworkers in wide-ranging dialogues. Impact their lives through your words and actions, then experience how they impact your life in return.

If you recommend the procedure, you will have the opportunity to upsell your clients. Decide which upsell options and sales tactics work best to win over your client. Be careful not to push too hard though—it may cause resentment and impact your work reviews.

Every time Jin speaks, you decide what they say. Figure out which options lead to the information or outcomes you seek. Use words to shape what kind of person Jin becomes over the course of the story.

At the end of each day, budget your finances and decide what luxuries you want to spend on (if any). Plan and allocate money to ensure you have enough saved up to afford your rabbit’s surgery.

Throughout the game, you may unlock keepsakes from various characters. Use them to decorate your home or sell them to try and meet your savings goals.
