Small patch

Hello everyone! We recieved a few reports about bugs so we fixed them. Changelog: - Folders in collectables are now expanded by default - Added setting to invert inventory scrolling direction - Smoking cigarrets now does consistent damage - It's possible to get "Green sludge" achievement - Drones behavior improved And as always if you find any bugs don't hesitate to contact us and report it.

KVARK is out now!

It's finally here, release of the third and last chapter of Kvark. It was a long journey to get here but we did it, with your help of course. Big thanks for everyone who submitted feedback or wrote us a review. The game wouldn't be what it's now without you! You can look forward to 4 new levels, more enemies, new weapon, 5 new localizations, and much more. We also added new system for collectibles and greatly improved binding settings to be able to bind almost anything (so the guy who wrote us that he can't bind shooting to space bar can do so now :D). Small update 0.6.12.59

This is just a small update to fix some bugs we encountered after release of the second chapter. Thank you to everyone who reported bugs, we couldn't have fixed them so quickly without you.

Fixes:


  • Weapons are saved correctly when you die after loading from level selector
  • Added preview to last save machine
  • Elevator doesnt deal damage now
  • One secret was made considerably easier
  • Camera shake plays correctly at the start of the game
  • Cables should no longer spawn underground

  • Acid in C2L3 deals damage now
  • Some buttons are all caps
  • Improved font of censored text to be more clear

We are finally back with a new chapter. Including plenty of new features and improvements. You can now explore the second chapter with 5 brand-new levels, each offering unique challenges and puzzles. Including many new enemies and weapons.

Development News and Update

Hey everyone!


We are back with an update and information about the future development of the game. Let's just start with the important thing: Our original plan was to have 5 chapters in the game. This was also stated in early access description on our steam page. After careful consideration and planning we have decided that we will merge some levels and instead of 5 smaller chapters there will be 3 bigger chapters.

Why?


We originally thought that each chapter would have a different number of levels, so chapter 2 would have 3 levels, chapter 3 would have 4 and so on. But we have realized this is quite confusing and impractical so we are merging everything into 3 chapters each with 5 levels. As it will be easier to manage this you can expect more content with this change.

Where are some dates?


We know that we didn't share any public roadmap with you and now we want to correct that, so this is our plan:

What are those feature updates in between chapters?


We are always working on some cool new features that aren't dependent on release of the next chapter and we would like to release them as soon as they are ready. For example we are now planning to add level selection and speedrun timer. Those features don't need to wait for a next major release.

How is the 2nd chapter going?


We were working hard for the past few months and here are few sneak peeks from the development. Small spoilers ahead!

Comunity spotlight


Small comunity of speedrunners emerged organized by goober was able to create category for Kvark on Speedrun.com and we already have some great runs, skips and funny glitches. So if you ever considered speedruning Kvark we encourage you to give it a try.

And finally here is the changelog for the new update:


New features:
  • Enemies limbs can now be shoot off
  • You can now interact with lamps and oil cans!
  • Mutant's projectile will now splash on impact and create more dangerous area around it
  • Enemies will now try to split when attacking player so they don't go in one line
  • Fire extinguisher will now start to fly and explode when shot
  • New and improved animations for rat, chemik, chemik with gun and mutant
  • Improved saving system, we measured twice as fast loading times in some cases
  • Pickaxe and spade are now also props
  • Changed and improved system for switching movement animations
  • New system for setting parameters on materials, this will optimize enemies, interactibles and more
  • [audio] Added sound to mutant's goo
  • [audio] Improved audio in animations
  • [audio] Heavily optimized all audio features, measured 10% less utilization on CPU

Balancing:
  • Decreased damage from enemies on easy difficulty
  • Increased mutant's goo damage
  • Players will get a little bit more ammo from pickups on easy difficulty
Bugfixes and tweaks:
  • Improved lightning
  • Fixed some stuck spots in level 3
  • Enemies won't shout if they don't have head
  • Improved physics on some props
  • Radio audio no longer gets occluded when shot
  • Optimized some shaders
  • Tweaked FOV change intensity when running
  • HDR setting is now loading correctly
  • Chemik will drop his gun when killed (just a visual thing)
  • Step sound has a different volume for each movement state (walk, run and crouch)

Hands!

Hey everyone! Last month we were busy working on this new update and we finally adressed the most wanted feature hands! Of course everything is subject to change so if you have any feedback for hands or other feature we would love to hear it on our discord. We also upgraded engine version from Unreal engine 5.0 to 5.1 which greatly improved lightning on moving objects, reflections, physics and much more. We tested improved physics of both versions and you can see difference here:
Here is the full changelog: New features:

  • Enemy head will explode if you kill them with headshot
  • Added hands to all weapons and improved animation. Added idle animation
  • Player will push props around when walking through them
  • Improved camera shake on all weapons
  • Added HDR support
  • Improved fire feedback, player now sees flames when burning
  • Added highlight on pickup items for better visibility
  • Added headshot and damage indicator to the crosshair
  • Reprogrammed the whole weapon system from scratch (you wont notice that, but we did it :D). Its now more robust and modular. This will enable us to create alternative attacks and more.
  • [audio] Headshot kill now has unique sound
  • [audio] Overhauled all weapon sound to have stronger feel and fixed mixing
  • [audio] Wrench attack has more weight upon impact
  • [audio] Many new impact sounds, destruction sounds and prop sounds - rubber, plastic, metal, wood, cardboard
  • [audio] Reading device has audio feedback: beeps when not read
Balancing:
  • Change accuracy of all enemies
  • Changed damage of some weapons
Bugfixes:
  • [audio] Infinite loop of shotgun reload sound fixed
  • [audio] Infinite loop of ladder sound fixed
  • Many small environment fixes (alignment, levitating props, clipping, etc.)
  • Physics props will now detach from player if he is too far away, so props should now clip much less
  • Barrels close together will now consistently trigger each other when exploded
  • Save machine material fixed
  • Improved green acid pool in level 4
And what we worked on beside this update? We started by planning whole second chapter, all enemies and new weapons. After everything was planned we started on blockout of first level:

First update!

Hey everyone! Thank you so much for playing the game! Since we are in early access, we would love to hear your thoughts about the game. If you have any feedback, suggestions, questions, or just want to chat with us, join our Discord. Here is the change log: New features:

  • Changed how interaction works with props - You now need to press E once to take them and E once to put them down
  • You can also now throw those props with LMB
  • All cardboard boxes are now props and can be destroyed
  • Camera shake of all weapons improved
  • Shotgun feel improved
  • Added Discord icon to the main menu
  • HUD will get more glitched out the lower your HP gets
  • Added in-game text tutorial at the start of the game
  • Texts in levels will now show their translation when hovered

Balancing:
  • Decreased accuracy of all enemies
  • Drones now start shooting after they spot the player (not right away after spawning)
  • Shotgun damage increased
  • Made easy difficulty easier and hard difficulty harder
  • Increased headshot damage multiplier
Bugfixes:
  • Improved Chinese localization
  • Brightness setting is now also affecting main menu
  • Indicator device is switching to green when pumps are turned on
  • You can now interact with every interactable actor and also should see their tooltip
  • Anethium tutorial screen now has correct image
  • Rat isnt getting stuck on dead enemies
  • Ladder movement improvements - It is now possible to use W to get of ladder when looking away from it
  • Player isnt rotating when any key is bound to left or right arrow and pressed
  • You were able to duplicate N1 Great when picking it up
Bugs we are aware of and are trying to fix them:
  • Drones get stuck in wall sometimes
  • Shotgun reload sound is playing infinitely and restart is needed for fix
  • For some people flicking flashlight on and off frequently crashes the game

As we now have a little time between chapter we want to upgrade to Unreal engine 5.1 for better physics engine and we would also like to move game repository from git to subversion for better teamwork.
