New Demo Released!

We are happy to announce that we released a free demo version of Stardust Demon for PC, Mac, & Linux! We had a demo from Next Fest back in June, but we felt it no longer accurately captured the game... so instead there's a new one this time! It's the first section of the full game, showing off the intro and first planet of the game, and the little town there, etc. It should give people a nice way to experience the feel of the gameplay and atmosphere of the world. So if you're curious but unsure, or want to check for any technical issues before buying, then please try the demo out! Keep in mind in the full game there is so much more with more gameplay variety, power-ups, puzzles, NPC's etc... there's quite a lot to the full game and some unexpected twists!!

Really positive impression from Rock Paper Shotgun + a small patch

We have a small patch but we wanted to bring up some positive press we got as well! This Rock Paper Shotgun article (link) is short and sweet but the writer really likes our game! Some highlights are "How two people developed this is beyond me" and that the game's locations "look 1000% more interesting and quirky than a lot of worlds I've seen in retro-filed platformers nowadays." We also appreciate the term "bizzarovanias". And about the patch, the changes are few: - fixed issues with the "Full Health After Death" and "Infinite Other Berries" cheats in the cheat menu not becoming active Mac and Linux are up to date now as well as Windows (v1.02)

Stardust Demon is Now Released!

We're proud to announce that Stardust Demon is now out! The game has turned out way bigger than we initially anticipated, and we think we made something really unique, fun, and memorable! There is action-platforming fun, a large variety of enemies and bosses, and lots of different puzzles that utilize unique gameplay mechanics. It's cute and surreal and silly... definitely has retro vibes while still being a unique resnijars thing. Stardust Demon will be released on October 23rd

It's official... Stardust Demon will be released on October 23rd, 2024! Tell your friends :) We're just finishing the last bit of music and art, and polishing out some remaining bugs. We will have a new trailer up soon as well. We're both very excited about the game, we think its our best game we've made so far! It's quite big too, way bigger than we initially intended... but it also feels pretty fleshed out. We think the visuals, sounds, gameplay, and story work nicely together and offer a unique videogame experience. We don't really have much of a marketing budget, so we're mostly relying on word of mouth. If you have a Twitch or YouTube channel and are interested in streaming the game once it goes live, that would be super helpful! We put a lot of hard work and love into this project and we are excited for people to play it!

Stardust is getting really close!

Hey everyone. We've been pretty quiet lately as we've been working on the game a ton, and it's getting really close! Feeling super good about it and can't wait for people to try it, we think it has lots of charm as well as being fun to play. For the past month, we have been focusing on finishing up art and putting a ton of story and NPC cutscenes into the game. Really just padding out the flavour and vibes, cause we feel those are really important in a game! There some silly, funny, cute, and heartwarming things in the game, as well as a good dose of that resnijars queeretro-surrealness that people might come to expect from the stuff we make. I'd say in about 1-2 weeks, we'll be sending the beta version out to some playtesters. We also have to make a new release trailer and update some of the screenshots and stuff too, and our press package... So we're looking at a mid-October release if things go to plan. We're also going to be disabling the demo on Steam and itch in a week from today (September 12th) as we get ready for launching soon. Anyway, here's a couple screenshots in the meantime.

Jumping and movement is now faster! + Demo patch notes

Hi everyone. After the feedback from Next Fest we decided to change the jump speeds (in other words you don't stay in the air as long), in addition to the big change from earlier where you can now manually cancel out of your dash instead of being forced to lose momentum. We've also made the character less "slippery" and subtly sped up the horizontal movement speeds too. As for our progress towards a finished game, we're working hard on it and have a lot of fun stuff in store! We recently added a unique stealth mechanic for a particular area, some fun cutscenes, among other things. We're looking forward to getting the chance to share it all! Thanks for playing! We have the full patch notes for the demo below. demo v0.03 patch notes:

  • player jump/gravity sped up
  • player horizontal movement sped up slightly (+ being able to cancel out of dashes from last patch)
  • player starting/stopping momentum changed to be less "slippery"
  • can air-dash only once per jump now (there will be upgrades for this in the full game)
  • added sound effect when walking past triangular puzzle elements
  • minor graphical change

Re-working the Dash Ability

Hey everyone, after getting feedback on the game we decided to change how the dash works in the demo and the full version.

The Change:


Before, you would be locked in until you lost momentum and landed on the ground for a moment. Now, the dash is much more flexible where you can cancel out of it any time after it starts, either by jumping or attacking. The exception is when you bump into a wall and fall down, or when you're in water (for the time being). It will also have its own dedicated button now!! (R shoulder button on controller, or shift on keyboard in the full game)

And so...


This should make the game feel overall speedier and make movement more interesting. The original idea was that we didn't want the player to feel they had to have Dash equipped all the time, leaving only 2 slots for everything else, but we'll change it so that Dash not an equippable power anymore and in the full game it'll be accessible at all times through just the dedicated button. Originally there was going to be a "Dash Cancel" upgrade later on in the full game... which would enable special movement techniques, such as jumping out of an air-dash to go higher than normal, or to dash again and double your momentum. Instead of getting that all at once, you'll start with being able to do basic movements out of a dash similar to the new demo, and more extreme movement options will be in the full game as upgrades. The change to the demo is now live tonight in the Windows version, and tomorrow the Mac and Linux versions should be updated too. We also fixed a couple bugs / a typo.   • Stardust Demon is a retro metroidvania adventure about exploring alien planets. It features a mixture of challenges, from platforming to fighting to solving puzzles. Power up with an arsenal of abilities and many hidden upgrades and secrets.
