Version 1.10 Bugfixes

Hello everyone! It's me, El Demso. I know it's been a hot minute, so let's get down to business.

Here's the changelog for this update.


UI:


  • Added arrows to highlight the choices.
  • Added arrows to highlight the e-mails in the e-mail menu.
  • Fixed some UI buttons not being selected in some instances.
  • Fixed some bugs related to controller handling of the UI.
  • Improved and added some UI sprites.
  • On the win screen results: Moved stats to the middle. It looks better this way.
  • Improved the Settings screen. Graphics and audio are separate now (before the shaders slider was grouped with audio sliders, oops).
  • Added Language dropdown to settings screen.
  • Fixed a bug where if you opened up a mail, then clicked on another menu tab, when you went back to the mail menu the mail was still opened and blocking the mail list.
  • Added a close button on the corner of the mail window for clarity.
  • Redrawn controls glyphs and added support for different controllers.
  • Fixed a bug where some buttons audio playback didnt change with the settings.

Gameplay:


  • Added Spacebar as a default key on keyboard to submit choices and advance dialogue.
  • Fixed some typos and wrongly mapped choices in some dialogue bits.
  • Added the ability to use analogue sticks to move the cursor and shift blocks.
  • Added limited support for AZERTY keyboard layouts.
  • Reset button hold time reduced from 1 second to 0.7 seconds.
  • Made the easing on the Reset widget Linear. It was making people release the button earlier than expected.

Misc.:


  • Fixed a bug where screen resolution and full screen settings were not being saved in between playing sessions.
  • Added 1280x800 resolution for Steam Deck.
  • Added Christmas easter egg (play the game during Christmas!).

Known issues:


  • Using a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller might disable your connected Xbox controllers for the game.
  • In some cases (mostly when CoCo goes 'Welcome back!'), the puzzles button will be selected even if CoCo is talking to you, causing some weird behaviour if you select a puzzle too quickly.
  • CoCo no longer does random greetings when you log in.
  • In some cases during the post-game if you get 99 moves the game will softlock. I have no idea why this bug happens to some people. It has never happened to me or any of my testers. Still trying to track this one down.
  • For Steam Deck users: I couldn't consistently get the virtual keyboard to show up automatically on input fields. You will have to rely on the ol' Steam+X shortcut. Sorry!

Where have you been?


I've been hard at work at the localization side of things and also taking care of real life stuff. Not gonna lie, localizing the game has been kind of hell lol First I had to actually code the on-the-fly text replacement and make it so it would support several languages. As you will see, I also changed the Settings Menu to reflect this (although English is the only language available for now still). The framework I'm using for the dialogue system does not have any integrated solution for localizations. As such, I had to look for a solution around the internet and thankfully I found some GitHub repo with a script that homebrewed and automated some of the process. The rest I had to do by myself. I also had to sacrifice some things here and there, such as CoCo's random greetings. I will be looking to integrate that back into the game in the future, as I feel it gives CoCo a bit more personality and I think it's pretty neat. But for this update it won't be there, sorry. Right now, I'm working on the Spanish localization (given how it's my native language), while some friends are working on the German and French localizations. The Spanish localization is definitely coming out first. And soon!

Will the game be ever localized in [X]?


I will see into it. So far, Spanish, German and French localizations are planned because that's the language me and some friends speak. Anything else will definitely have to be paid for out of my pocket, since I'm not making any real money off of this game. What's next?


Sorry for taking so long, I know some of the bugs were a bit annoying and you had to put up with them! I had to take care of some real life stuff, but I should be good for now. So if any really annoying bugs (re)surface in this version, I will try to fix them fast and upload an update as soon as possible! I will be watching this update for any potential bugs while continue working on the Spanish localization update, I will make a proper announcement for that when the time comes. After that, I'm going to start working on refactoring a bunch of code and ironing out more bugs in preparation for the inevitable Puzzle Editor update. I don't know how long that's going to take, so please, stay tuned and hang tight!
