Small improvements based on feedback from version 1.0.4:
- The player joining the game no longer needs to worry about entering the code in uppercaseit should now automatically convert it.
- The joining player's alias is now saved for future connections, so there's no need to re-enter it every time. It can still be edited as desired between sessions.
- Adjustments have been made to how the game adapts to players' screen resolutions. I lack sufficient feedback on this for now, so further improvements may be needed.
- A clear pause screen now indicates whether the game has started or not. This appears when both players havent joined yet or in case of an unexpected disconnection.
- During level selection, the selected level now displays correctly.
- Some elements on the screen that werent displaying properly in the second level have now been fixed.

On this January 1st, Ive just uploaded version 1.0.4 of the Emergency Exit demo. I wont go into a long list of all the changes because it would simply be too much. Thats the official reason. The real reason? Ive made so many updates and improvements that I cant keep track of everything! That said, heres whats new in this version:
- Significant graphical changes, with a much more cohesive, darker, and polished artistic direction (visible in the new trailer and screenshots).
- Several UI and UX improvements, refining the overall experience.
- Bug fixes, including a major one (thanks to everyone who pointed it out!).
- An extended demo: The first three levels are now accessible instead of two, as the games playtime has tripled since the previous version.

Just a quick hello to let you know that the new trailer is out, and its much more representative of the games current state. Ive also made a few changes to the screenshots. If youve already tried the demo, youll likely notice some big differences. If you havent, no worriesand in fact, thats even better, because an update is coming very soon. Itll be the perfect time to give it a try! See you soon !

Announcement about the next update (the biggest one yet) Its been a while since I last wrote something here, so lets fix that right now. Heres some news, broken into three parts (because I like structureits my obsessive side, I guess): Regarding the demo currently available: -By the end of the year, a major update will be rolled out for the Emergency Exit demo. I can already tell you that there will be a noticeable change in the games visuals. Will the art style drastically change? Yes and no. Fundamentally, the overall artistic direction will remain the same: the graphics will retain their minimalist style, but the change will still be striking! The games visual identity will be even more pronounced. I think youll like it. Personally, Im very happy with the changes. -Ill also take this opportunity to improve a few things, particularly the user interface and feedback for some player actions. -Finally, Ive decided to extend the demo so it better reflects what the final game will be like. Youll now have access to the first three levels instead of just two. Regarding the progress of the game itself: -I havent announced a release date yet, and I wont do so today. However, heres an estimate: Emergency Exit will launch in the first quarter of 2025. Its not that far away. -Ive chosen to take my time with development and expand the games content, but not in the way you might expect. I have to stay vague to avoid spoiling anything. Just know that Im progressing (intentionally) slowly but steadily! The part nobody cares about (so why not write it, since no one will read it): Emergency Exit isnt attracting much attention. Its genre is niche, its art style isnt the most eye-catching, and the fact that its an online co-op game adds another layer of look how niche I am. As a result, there arent many wishlists so far. The bright side? (Theres always one.) : There are almost as many people who played the demo as there are wishlists. This tells me that my audience (yes, you!) may be small but is genuinely interested in what Im offering. Lets be honest: faced with this situation, a developer usually has two options. Option 1: Cancel the project or cut out a large part of what was planned to limit the losses and move on to something else. Option 2: See the project through to the end, polish the game, and try to deliver the best experience possible to the (few) players who are waiting for it. After giving it some thought, I made my choice. Ive chosen the second option. With that, Ill see you in the next update, which will likely coincide with the release of version 1.0.4 by the end of the year. Until then, take care! Romain

Lists of these small changes: -Visual indications added to the screen, for greater clarity on the role of the players as well as the objective of the game. A sort of Tips & Tricks, but in an image, so to speak. -Indications regarding keyboard commands moved and reduced in size -Removal of the elevator and the mention "Add to wish list", in order to make the whole thing less visually busy (especially with the addition that I mentioned above)

After some back-and-forth and quite a bit of frustration, Emergency Exit now uses NW.js as its rendering engine, replacing WebView2. Although this makes the game a larger download, it allowed me to fix some bugs that, while not game-breaking, caused a bit of discomfort (e.g., issues with full screen mode). Im crossing my fingers that this was the right choice, though right now Im seeing both pros and cons. Ill cross them a little harder, just in case Also, Ive just released a Linux version. For the same reason Ill be adding support for additional languages before the final release of Emergency Exit, I want to make the game accessible to an even wider audience. I think our Linux friends will appreciate this. However, note that this is still an untested version. I will give equal attention to both the Windows and Linux versions, so any issues that arise will be fixed. Romain.

Emergency Exit demo is now live! This is version 1.0.3, as it has already undergone numerous changes since its initial release on itch.io. Today is an important day for me, and I hope it's an enjoyable demo for you. But thats not all! To celebrate the demo release (what a festive day, indeed), Im launching a little giveaway: Download the demo, play it, and if you manage to complete the second level, take a screenshot (the "Emergency Exit Reached" screen). To participate, simply share this screenshot on X, tagging @cheekycatgames and using the hashtag #EmergencyExit. Thats it! On October 31st, I will hold a drawing. I will contact the winner, who will receive 2 Steam keys for the full version upon its official release. Until then, a big thank you to everyone for trying out the Emergency Exit demo. See you soon!

Emergency Exit is on version V1.0.2. Here is an overview of the changes and fixes made:
- the camera is closer (a little closer than last time again)
- darkness slightly less opaque (-0.25% and yet, that changes everything) and slightly bluish
- the game is about 12 times lighter now!
- electrical cabinets can now inflict significant damage on you if misused
- fixed an annoying bug on the electrical cabinet present in the second level (two switches were inadvertently reversed, which of course could hamper the resolution of this puzzle)
- fixed a sound bug that played in a loop for player 2 (the player in the control room)
- fixed some fires that did not detect collisions when the player crossed them
- removal of the display of player 2's name on player 1's screen, for more visibility on the screen
- use of some royalty-free sprites: it's temporary of course, it's in the meantime to redo them myself

I spent a lot of hours today remaking the trailer for Emergency Exit and I wanted to let you know. Not that I'm particularly proud of it, but I tell myself that we have to celebrate every little step, I guess. steamhappy [previewyoutube=Zy7O_WPO4Ik;full][/previewyoutube] It highlights certain things, but in subtle ways, so I'll let you discover it for yourself. That's all for today. It's not much, yes, but it's only the beginning :)

Hi folks!
First of all, thank you for the intention brought to Emergency Exit and for taking the time to read me. This is an exciting project for me, a project that I am carrying out with my partner and into which I have been putting all my energy for almost two months. I might as well warn you, I will regularly write here to give you news and precisely... Bam! First news: a demo will be available, if all goes well, mid-September The demo is almost ready actually, but I would like to improve it a little more before releasing it, so that you have the best possible experience. I would also like, at the same time, to update the trailer. The one visible today (and which you will also find on YouTube) dates from two weeks ago now. The visuals have changed slightly since then and I'd like to show you some cool things. [previewyoutube=W1CyQpajxBc;full][/previewyoutube] Finally, don't hesitate to follow me on social networks and in the meantime...well, all we have to do is finish developing the game I guess, so here we go! :)

Emergency Exit: Puzzles, Communication, and Escape
Discover Emergency Exit, an intense cooperative game where you must guide your teammate through the darkness and solve puzzles together. Communicate constantly, be resourceful, synchronize your actions, but remain quick and efficient. Avoid traps, solve puzzles and find the emergency exit before time runs out!
Your attention: Emergency Exit does not include a traditional tutorial. This is entirely intentional and part of the game’s vision. There’s what’s on the screen, and then there’s what’s implied, hidden, obscure, or deliberately left unexplained
Key Features:
Two players, two distinct roles:
*The first player, equipped with a limited-battery flashlight, navigates alone through an emergency escape plan. Flames spread, deadly traps are triggered, and disturbing noises are heard in the distance... He must advance carefully, remain vigilant and not get lost.
*The second player, from the control room, does not hear or see the first player. His mission is to guide his partner through the darkness, protect him from various dangers and help him solve puzzles. For this, he has an emergency manuals containing notes and instructions for solving puzzles, as well as several control panels filled with buttons, levers, screens and switches, allowing him to manipulate the environment (open doors , trigger sprinklers, manage access to ventilation ducts, etc.). However, each system consumes electricity, which must then be managed wisely.
Difficulty:
The further you progress, the more obstacles there are, puzzles become more complex, and time becomes crucial. Mistakes have no place here. Add to this several game modes, adding additional constraints and requiring perfect mastery of the puzzles and effective communication between players. Few players will be able to complete all these challenges...
Replayability:
For the full experience, it is recommended to complete the game playing both roles. Will you do better than your partner when you take their place? You will win or fail together, but it will surely be each other's fault.Secrets to Discover:
You’re not the first to explore the depths of Emergency Exit. Pages from a scattered journal lie within the levels, holding both clues and unanswered questions.
Secrets and surprises await the most curious players. The Perfect Duo:
Reaching the exit of each level is good, but doing it in record time, without making mistakes, while saving all the lost cats, is even better... Achieve the highest scores and earn the right to brag!
Inspired by classics of the genre such as Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, Operation: Tango or We Were Here Together, Emergency Exit caters to fans of cooperative and puzzle games, where communication is as essential as the ability to handle pressure.
Ready to take on the challenge? Add Emergency Exit to your wishlist and get ready for a unique cooperative experience!
