After years of hard work, the biggest Murder Miners update has finally released! This update contains so much content, we can't put it all in one post. Make sure to check out the in-game update logs or the linked post at the bottom of this page to see all the changes in this update.



[Double Barrel Shotgun]


The Double Barrel Shotgun is a new on map weapon. This means you wont find it on the weapon wheel when you spawn. You can get your hands on the Double Barrel Shotgun by placing a weapon spawn on a map and setting it to the Double Barrel Shotgun. The Double Barrel Shotgun fires one powerful shot before you must reload so make it count! It also comes equipped with a hook you can use to reel yourself in closer for the kill. The hook has a 7 second cool down but landing a kill will instantly recharge the hook.

[Plasma SMG]


The Plasma SMG is a new weapon you can spawn with. It shoots a stream of plasma bolt projectiles that rewards excellent aim. The alt fire is a deadly blast of energy that must be charged up before firing. Landing hits will greatly charge the alt fire, while simply firing the gun will only charge it slightly.

[Murder Car]


Its mean, its green, its the Murder Car! The Murder Car is a brand-new vehicle that can hold up to four players. It has the highest amount of health compared to the other vehicles in the game and protects the driver from the front far better than other vehicles. Load up your crew and take down any who dare to stand in your way.

[Larger Maps]


The max map size has been expanded allowing for maps larger than ever before, and the height limit has finally been defeated! Maps can now go up to a total size of 134217728 blocks (that's a 512x512x512 cube!) in any configuration. You have the choice of making the map wider, giving up some height (for example 1024x64x1024), or taller while giving up some width (for example 64x1024x64) or go crazy and make something really long and thin (for example 8192x64x256). We look forward to what players will create with these new limits!

[New Blocks]


Update 40 adds 123 new blocks to the "Default" block set, and also adds around that amount to every other existing block set in the game, some of these blocks even have new unique properties, you can find out about those below!
[Massively Updated & New Block Sets] All of the seasonal and other reskin block sets have the new blocks as well, including the all new "Summer" block set.
[New Funtioncally Different Block Set] The Pastel block set has doubled in size! It has 14 new sets of inbetween colors and it also includes the new map making blocks.
We have added an entirely new block set called "Frostbite", this block set is a functions completely differently to the default block set similar to pastel.

[Improved Legacy Map Support]


The default block set has been modified several times throughout Murder Miners lifetime. Due to this, some older maps created with earlier versions of the default block set don't look or function like they did when they were originally created. Great effort has gone into ensuring that these older maps will now use the period correct block set they were originally created with when loaded, and it's not just for show, these block sets have accurate stats and properties so these old maps can be played exactly how they were back in the day.
[Classic (2019-2024) Block Set] This block set is based on versions of the game between Update 36 and Update 39.4 as well as earlier versions of the Update 40 Public Beta. These would be the block textures you are familiar with if you have played the game recently. It's not as different as the other block sets but we feel enough has changed in update 40 to justify it's existence.
[Classic (2013-2019) Block Set] Based on versions of the game between Update 3 and Update 35. This is what you would remember if you are familiar with the Xbox 360 or Xbox One versions of the game. This block set also replaces almost all of the blocks added in Update 40 with entirely different blocks taken from cut, unused and removed content imnplemented as faithfully as possible, and some other blocks use early unused versions of their textures meaning that very few of the new blocks remain unchanged. This block set replaces the "Classic" block set from Update 39.4.
[Alpha (2012) Block Set] Based on the inital release versions of the game up to Update 2 as well as alpha and beta builds of the game. These are the block textures you would remember if you played the game right after it released on Xbox 360. Similar to the block set above, this block set replaces many blocks with formerly unused content salvaged from old files and some new blocks modified to fit with the old art style. This block set replaces the "Alpha" block set from Update 39.4. While these block sets can be used the same as any other block sets, we view them as Map Compatibility Modes instead of regular block sets, but that doesn't stop you from creating an new map using them, or even editing an existing map to them, you can even change the block set a map uses mid game in the lobby settings!
Explosive Block: The explosive block will explode when it receives enough damage. They can also be chained together.

Hazard Blocks:


Hazard blocks such as lava, acid and barbed wire will damage anything its in contact with (including Grenades!) so make sure to watch out!

New Map Making Blocks


We have added six new map making blocks (meaning there is now a total of 8) .
[No Draw Block] Can be used as a one way window, and can greatly improve performance when used correctly!

[Passthrough Blocks]


These blocks will allow certain players, and even bullets, through while blocking others. [Alpha Team Passthrough] and [Omega Team Passthrough] These blocks will only allow players on a certain team pass through. All bullets and rockets from either team will also pass through. All grenades and zombie vomit from either team are blocked. [Miner Passthrough] This block will only allow non infected players (on any team) through. All bullets, grenades, rockets and zombie attacks will also pass though. [Zombie Pass Through] This block will only allow AI zombies and infected players pass through. All bullets, grenades, rockets and zombie attacks will also pass though.

[Bullet Passthrough] This block only allows bullets, grenades, rockets, zombie vomit, and vile wind to pass through. Players, AI Zombies, vehicles and sentries are blocked.
The blocks Alien Window, Prison Bars, Pipes, Iron Fence, Barbed Wire and Barbed Wire Fence share the same properties as the Bullet Pass Through block.

[Trigger Volumes]


Trigger volumes are a powerful new tool for map makers that will take maps to a whole new level. Trigger volumes have many options such as: - Choosing if a volume is visible outside map making mode - The color and opacity of the trigger volume - The texture and noise level of the volume - If the trigger volume's effects persist when a player exits a volume.
There are seven different volume types to choose from. You can even use any combination of these volume types for even more possibilities.

[Gravity Trigger Volume] Gravity volumes give you the option to change the state of gravity. A higher gravity multiplier will make gravity heavier to the point players can barely hop. A negative gravity multiplier will inverse gravity causing players float to the top of the volume.


[Fog Color Trigger Volume] A fog color volume changes the color of the fog when a player enters the volume.
[Fog Distance Trigger Volume] Fog distance volumes will change the density of the fog when a player enters the volume.

[Screen Color Overlay Trigger Volume] A screen color overlay volume applies a color overlay to the screen when a player enters the volume. You can choose the transparency level of the screen color overlay.
[Sound Effect Trigger Volume] A sound effect is played once when a player enters the volume. There are 28 different sound effects to choose from.
[Display Text Trigger Volume] Text will pop up on screen when a player enters the volume. The message can be up to 70 characters long and the color of the text can also be customized.


[Kill Zone Trigger Volume] Players die as soon as they enter the volume.


[New Cosmetics]


Tons of new cosmetic options have been added. Play the game to unlock new options to customize your miner with. The customization menu has also received a UI overhaul.

Three new Cosmetic Types:

  • Zombie Skins
Five new Helmets:

  • Assassin
  • Bta Taester / Fake Tester
  • Fancy (for Believer DLC owners only)
  • Goblin
  • Samurai
and New badges have been added.
[New Limited Time "Bling" Badge]
The badge can be unlocked by playing the game any time within the first 2 weeks of the release of Update 40!
And as a special thanks, the matching Zombie skin has been given to everyone who has played any of the Update 40 public beta builds we have released.

[Shadows]


A new map option to enable shadows has been added. You can change the strength of the shadows to your liking. Shadows can also be enabled on any map with a lobby settings override.

[Mod Support]


We've added a new "Mods" folder to the game's files to make modding easier than ever before. Simply place the file in the correct folder to change an asset without messing with the original files and without worrying about game updates removing your mods.

[New Modes/Modifiers]


A ton of new options have been added to customize how your lobby plays to your liking. Some examples of those are:
[Weapon Wheel Sets] Feeling nostalgic? Switch out the weapon wheel with an older version and play how you remember. Choose between "Default" which is the current iteration of the weapon wheel, "Classic" the original blue weapon wheel used on Xbox 360 and older PC versions of the game, "Alpha" which is a port of the weapon wheel from the 2012 alpha (weapons included) and the new chaotic "Everything" weapon wheel which includes every weapon in the game, including the on-map only weapons!
[Gravity] Make gravity stronger or weaker, similar to how the new trigger zone effect works but for the entire map. [Player Health and Shields] Increase or decrease the amount of health/shields a player has. [Air Dashing] Enable the ability to dash while in the air, works best when combined with the new gravity setting.
[Player Scale] Change the size of players to make them tiny or turn everyone into giants.
[Big Head Mode] A secret setting that increases the size of everyones head!
[Headshots Only] and [Assassinations Only] Only allow specific types of damage. [No Health Regeneration] Makes all health damage permanent until death. [Sprinting] Toggle the ability to sprint. Can work well with the existing "Player Speed" setting. [Ramming] Toggle the ability to ram. This has always been toggled when playing specific game modes (Murder The Flag and Infection for example) but now you have the option to toggle it yourself if you wish. [Wall Jumping] Toggle the ability to wall jump. Can work well combined with the new "Gravity" setting.
[Player Knockback Multiplier] Increase the distance that players are knocked back when taking all forms of damage, can lead to some very chaotic and fun situations when combined with other settings such as "Player Speed" and "Gravity". [Fire Speed] While turbo fire was already an existing setting, it has now been replaced with the "Fire Speed" setting with multiple options, one of which being a restored version of the original much faster Xbox 360 "Turbo Fire" setting.
[Pass Through Blocks When Flying] We finally added a "no clip" mode for map making, this should help save a lot of time when creating maps.
[Zombie Starting Level] and [Zombie Level Cap] The level that all player zombies start at can now be set, for both the starting "alpha" zombie and infected players, as well as the max level that zombies can level up to. And much more!

[Mini Game Mode Presets]


These mini game mode presets make it quick to set up fun mini games created by the community, now properly implemented with new features.
[Duck Hunt] Team Ducks have no weapons and one life to try and retrieve the flag and capture it. Team Hunters have several weapons to try and take out the ducks before they can capture the flag.
[Murder Moles] A tunnel of dirt sits between yours and the other team's base. Dig to the other team's base using weapons and tools such as the miner gun to make more holes and capture the flag.
[Flag Duel] With weapons and melees disabled, pick up the flag and throw it to take out the enemy team.
[Hide and Seek] Miners spawn with an empty shotgun and must use the shotgun's camouflage feature to hide from the zombies until the timer runs out. Zombies must hunt down and murder all miners to win.
[Murder Melee] Punch the other players off of the edge or into the sky to win! The last player standing or with most points when the timer runs out wins.
[Murder Games] A restoration of the removed Xbox 360 gamemode that eventually became "Murder Royale". A one-life mode where all players spawn with no weapons and must fight over weapons that spawn in the middle of the map.
[Maze Royale] Navigate through a maze to find weapons and become the last miner standing. Beware and don't get stuck outside the ring!
[Zombie Dodgeball] Miners spawn on a middle platform and must dodge the zombies' tentacle grab. Miners win when the timer runs out.

[Murderpedia]


The Murderpedia has been added as a new option on the main menu. Anything you might want to know about the game is contained within the Murderpedia. [Music / Original Soundtrack]


Over 50 music tracks have been added to the game including 40 songs from an original soundtrack made specifically for the game by starfyrox103! Music can be set to play in the map options or overridden in the lobby settings.
[4 New Ambiences] 4 new ambient music tracks have been added, 3 of which (Distant War, Frost Fields and Radiant) have been created specifically for the game by XG Stephen.

[New Achievements]


20 new achievements for you to earn have been added, some even unlock new cosmetics!

[Updated in-game chat box]


The in-game chat box has received some quality-of-life updates to make it easier to use. New chat features: Emojis, Commands, Server messages, and a new scroll bar!

[Discord & Steam Rich Presence]


Discord rich presence will let your friends on Discord see what you are up to in Murder Miners when they check your Discord profile. Rich Presence has also been added to Steam so your steam friends can see what da miner doin.

[Third-Party Voxel Editor Support]


You can now import maps created in third-party voxel editors such as MagicaVoxel or Vengi-Voxedit. You can even export a map from Murder Miners and continue editing it on a voxel editor, or even convert it to be used in another game!

[Import & Export Options Menu]


All game exports have been sorted and moved to a new sub menu, along with new export options that allow you to convert Murder Miners maps to formats that other games can use. [And much more!]

Halo-inspired core gameplay

3-shot-kill pistol included, with new additions such as wall-jumping, unlimited sprint, multi-directional dashing, alt-fire modes, and the ability to choose any weapon at spawn.

Unique Infection mode

One player starts as a zombie with the goal of infecting the other players until they've all turned over to the zombie army. The humans can use the Minergun to build forts, while the zombies can dig through walls and use their tentacle grab to reach higher places or pull players toward them. Unique to our game is the ability to feast on player corpses to level up your zombie. You can play this mode with up to 30 players. We'll usually have a full 30 player lobby in our weekly JForce play date. Come join us! It's a very intense experience when you're the last man standing and you have a whole swarm of player-controlled zombies coming after you.

Online co-op map making + completely destructible maps

The Minergun makes map-creation easy and fun. Almost every popular map you can think of has been remade by our community, and you can share them via Steam Workshop.
