Today is Murder Miners 12th Anniversary! To celebrate, the anniversary event is now active in game. The whole game has been re skinned to look like the original 2012 alpha version of the game. Changes from last year return and have been expanded. A "Classic Maps" list which contains a collection of maps from the original Xbox 360 release and alpha versions. Four weapons, ported over from the 2012 alpha. A new lobby setting that switches out the weapon wheel for different sets of weapons, allowing for the alpha weapons to be picked on spawn. We also plan to host some special game nights to celebrate. Later today we will be hosting a special game night where we will be playing every version of the game in the order they released, including the 2012 Alpha, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC versions of the game as well as a public beta for the upcoming Update 40 on the "update40-beta" branch on steam! Today is 10th Anniversary of the PC version of Murder Miners! To celebrate, the anniversary event is now active in the Update 40 beta along with a new update with some new stuff for you to check out. Today is Murder Miners 11th Anniversary! To celebrate, the anniversary event is now active in game. The whole game has been re skinned to look like the original 2012 alpha version of the game. Changes from last year return and have been expanded. A "Classic Maps" list which contains a collection of maps from the original Xbox 360 release and alpha versions. Four weapons, ported over from the 2012 alpha. A new lobby setting that switches out the weapon wheel for different sets of weapons, allowing for the alpha weapons to be picked on spawn. We also plan to host some special game nights to celebrate. Later today I will we be hosting a special game night where we will be playing every version of the game in the order they released, including the 2012 Alpha, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC versions of the game as well as a public beta for the upcoming Update 40 on the "update40-beta" branch on steam! Thanks to community member DarkHare, we are also hosting another Trick or Treat competition where players can compete to see who can find the most buckets of candy. The hunt starts tomorrow (10/30/2022) and will last for 1 week (Until 11/06/2022). Unfortunately only one person can take part at a time. The top 35% of players (or more depending on the number of players that take part) will unlock a new exclusive armor skin.

If that doesn't sound appealing to you or if your not happy with your score, you can try your hand at speed running last years trick or treat map, any players that can beat the top scores of last years map on Speedrun.com will also earn the exclusive armor skin. After the main Trick or Treat competition comes to and end, there's one final chance to earn the skin, on 11/07/2022 you have 10 days to speed run the new 2022 Trick or Treat map, once again the top 35% of submitted times will receive the new armor skin. This mode uses a special version of the game that you can access with a beta branch on Steam. Go to Steam right click Murder Miners and click "Properties". Under the "Betas" tab click the drop down menu to switch the version of the game you are using. The game should update and you can begin the hunt. Remember to switch back to the current version of the game when you are done.

Today is Murder Miners 10th Anniversary! That's right, a whole decade of Murder Miners! To celebrate, the anniversary event is now active in game with some new stuff for you to check out. The whole game has been re skinned to look like the original 2012 alpha version of the game. A new temporary Classic Maps list has been added which contains a collection of maps from the Xbox 360 release and alpha versions. Four new on map weapons weapons have been added! We have ported over the original weapons from the alpha into the game. The Machine Gun, Pistol, Sniper and Shotgun on the weapon wheel have been replaced by the Alpha Machine Gun, Alpha Pistol, Alpha Sniper and Alpha Shotgun. The new weapons will still be available from weapon spawns even after the event is over. Alongside the 2012 alpha version that we released last year we have decided to release a PC equivalent of the final Xbox 360 version under a new `classic_xbox360` branch. We also plan to host a special game nights to celebrate the 10th anniversary. The Murder Miners Easter Event has started and will last until 04/24/2022. During the event players have a chance to unlock a new exclusive variant of the rare "Jegg" helmet, the top 35% of players that compete in the new 2022 "Egg Hunt" map receive the item, the more players that compete means that more players will receive the item. This event uses a special version of the game. Go to Steam right click Murder Miners and click "Properties". Under the "Betas" tab you should be able to find the "egghunt" branch of the game. The game should update and you can begin the egg hunt. Remember to switch back to the default branch of the game when you are done. To submit your time you need to record your game, any method you use is fine but please make sure in game text is readable. When recording please start the recording when you are on the main menu of the game so that you can show yourself starting the mode or show the lobby settings before or after your run. Theres still more work to do before were happy with it, and we are experimenting with how often dismemberments happen during gameplay. The color of left and right armor pieces can now be changed separately. This wasnt a planned feature but it was easy to add while working on the bloody armor effect. More performance improvements have been made by converting some critical parts of the code from Unreal Blueprints to C++. We are releasing a previously unreleased alpha version of the game that's dated 05/26/2012, over 3 months before the game released on Xbox 360. This version of the game has been modified to allow it to be played over steam like the current PC versions of Murder Miners, allowing easy play with other players. The current version of the game has been significantly changed, featuring an almost entire re-skin of the game to look and sound like the now released alpha version. There is a chance to permanently unlock a helmet in the old alpha style of the game just by playing both versions. The event also adds a collection of maps from the alpha and original Xbox 360 release versions under a new temporary map category called "Classic Maps". To play the alpha version of the game, all you need to do is go to Murder Miners in Steam, right click it and click "Properties". Under the "Betas" tab you can pick the "Anniversary" branch using the drop down menu, the game will then switch to the alpha, just remember to switch it back later. The event will run for 1 week, ending on ending on 16/09/2021. The alpha version will still be available to play afterwards but the unlockable helmet will not be obtainable after the event has ended. To unlock the helmet, you must launch the the current version of the game at least once after you play the alpha version (possibly until next year). If you wish, all event content can be disabled by adding "NoEvent" to the games steam launch options under "Properties".

Weve finally got split-screen going again, and have optimized the game for tons of zombies. Basic Zombie AI is working, so the Zombies can actually follow you through any twists and turns in the map. We are testing a new Physics Props feature. They will be placeable in map-making mode, and will have varying degrees of destructibility. Back when we were first testing out 512x64x512 maps, we sent one to The Largest Dog to try out, he pretty quickly made a map called "The Largest House". The map resembles one of TLDs most well known maps "House of Madness", but it is completely empty other than TLDs famous Spacedog that he built.

Starting soon this map will be hosted publicly and everyone is allowed to build on it, to make things more manageable the map has been split into 4 256x256 sections and has had the other sections blocked off until the current section is completed. The map will continue to be hosted each day for a week or until it is filled for 5 hours a day (how long game nights last). Eid Mubarak everyone. Today we are releasing Update 39 - Eid-ul-Fitr Event, yes it's a little late but better late than never! This update is going to be mainly loved by our fellow map makers and of-course everyone else. [NEW ADDITIONS] Workshop Publisher: - This means you can edit the title, description, privacy, and tags before it gets shipped out to the workshop. This also includes automatic preview image creation so everyone would be able to see what your map looks like before clicking on the workshop item. Another thing is that the map info is automatically included in the description.
Helmet names now appear when viewing in the armor customization screen. New Current Map Category in the lobby map menu. Player Texture Exporter in Armor Customization menu if debug mode is turned on. 4 New Maps (listed bellow). New music for credits screen. New redesigned Achievement art.

We've also been adding discord integration through our custom discord bot called "MinerBot". There are many useful and interesting commands that you can use. Just to mention a few: - "+workshop" : When using this command, add a Murder Miners workshop item link to return an organized embed with all the stats of the map and workshop item. - "+armor" : When using this command, search for an armor name from the available list. The bot will return a screenshot of the armor colors and include a .txt file with all the info about it. If you have any questions regarding MinerBot, use the command "+help" to get descriptions and examples for each command that the bot provides. Weve got some fancy new animated skyboxes, with more styles to come. The Minergun has been freshened up and can now use the copy-paste feature weve shown previously, and you can now change the size when you paste it! Lots of under-the-hood work this month.

Hello Everyone! We hope you've all had a good holiday and some good fun playing Murder Miners, the game that just keeps giving! With a new year comes new content in the coming months so here's a roadmap for what you can expect as well as how you can help out! Let's get into it. New Blocks Community Contest That's right! We've pulled some strings in the game and managed to clean some stuff giving us space to add a few new blocks to the game and one of them will be from one of you! Starting soon, send us block textures in our discord server for a chance for it to be a part of the main atlases for the game! Check in the discord server for updates and more information, we only have little space though so your block has to be either one 32x32 texture or have some sides that use an existing texture. We're excited to see what you all cook up for us! We'll give you some time to hone in on your pixel art skillz before we start it. Good luck!
More Events & Unlockables In 2020, we added events that spice things up with a whole host of changes such as time limited weapon skins, block textures and unlockable helmets. You can expect many more events to come as well as some old ones returning with some revisions. One of these new events starts in February named 'Love Hurtz Event' where love will be spread all around, even to unlovable murdernauts! Some of you have made maps using some of the seasonal event atlases and we love that so we're going to be making all future block atlases stay in the game as an optional override allowing for more diverse and beautifully crafted maps. With these events, we want to work with the community more in order to make it feel more of a passion of love for the game so we'll be listening to all feedback on the new content going forwards!
Non-Limited Helmet Unlockables Over the year, you'll be getting new challenges to unlock some shiny new helmets! Our first of the lot will be the Rhino helmet awarded for getting a set amount of ram kills (Where you look down and run at inhuman speeds) so practice your movement skills because this will be chaos. Making helmets can be difficult so please be patient if there's some time before more helmets are done, we are only human after all, I think. Please send us suggestions on what kind of helmets you'd like.
Player Made Atlases & Block Sets We're cooking up something special for everyone by making more atlases to choose from other than what we have at the moment. Whats better? Having texture atlases made by the community of course! We'll be looking for and adding the best of the best texture atlases so everyone can experience maps in a fresh new look to liven up the game with a new spray of paint. We'll be making more too with the release of more seasonal texture atlases and more stylised packs such as simplistic and higher res packs! Want to choose an atlas that makes things look extra colourful? Sure! Want an atlas that makes things look dilapidated? Maybe. Want an atlas that makes the Spiral block not damage peoples retinas? Sorry but that's not possible, we tried, believe me! People that contribute added atlases (or other community content) will receive an exclusive helmet (Believer 4- Eva Helmet) and will be credited in game, get making everyone! A few new blocks is neat and all but why not a FEW HUNDRED BLOCKS?! We're adding a thing called block sets that change the way players interact with their environments as well as sprucing up the place by replacing the worlds sets of blocks with completely new blocks, each with their own properties! If you're getting tired of space themed maps and want to create something new then you can make a more natural looking map using sets of bricks, foliage and woods or maybe event a painters paradise that turns the world into a canvas! This will only be changeable by the map maker and not in any lobby menus in order not to break any existing maps. We couldn't be more excited to get this all into the community hands but this will take awhile as there's just so much to do, stay tuned for updates. This is going to be a game changer.
New Maps & Skyboxes Good maps deserve to be seen, each month we'll be adding new maps into the default selection with a new category named Monthly Maps which will rotate with new ones over time. New Skyboxes are also coming as expected and we are looking into the possibility of making more unique skyboxes that fit well in the murder miners universe. We hope this sheds some light on what you can expect from us over the year, we want to be transparent with you so please ask any and all questions you have to us. Our little group of aspiring developers have been voluntarily working on the game for over a year now and we couldn't be happier to have such a welcoming and thankful community! We can't promise we'll work on this game forever but we're gonna make sure we work to the best of our ability while we are working on the game. Weve converted the Murder Miner to be compatible with the countless animations available in the Unreal Engine Marketplace. The animation system is much more flexible now and will make it easier to add new animations for weapons and abilities in the future. We are still tinkering with the lighting, materials, and effects of the game. We have not settled on a style yet. Many of the animations shown here need to be tweaked or changed as well.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone, To show you the magic of giving we have pushed out another small update for the Holiday Season. Small Changes/Additions: - Added Free-Build lobby option under Map Making Mode settings (Map Making Mode must be on first!)
Free-Build is a mix of map making mode and non map making mode settings with twist which makes public building lobbies much more possible and tolerable. This makes griefing and murdering less likely to happen. - New Parkour default map auto-settings: All Weapons disabled, no time limit, no score to win. (Only for Parkour maps in default map list) - Added an Extras button (In Options and In-Game Pause Menu) - Added Spectator to spawn as in Map Making mode (Go to Debug Options) - Spectators can now infinitely dash and can no clip when flying. - Added Speed-Run Timer lobby option under General settings (Time limit will be disabled if Speed-Run is enabled & vice versa!)

We've released a small update with some changes and marks the end of the Halloween Event. Halloween skins, hats, helmets and other cosmetics have been replaced with the default ones. Anyone who played during the Halloween Event will unlock the new Pumpkin helmet!! The Spiral block Helmet will be added in later in a future update as a possible unlockable.
Small Changes/Additions: - New Lobby Setting: "Fog Distance". This overwrites every players current fog distance to the one set by the host. This can be great for maps that want to make maps spooky or make sniping more challenging. ("Fog Distance: None" does not overwrite the player fog distance) - Players who played during Halloween Event will unlock the Pumpkin Helmet - Halloween Skins, Hats, Helmets, and other Halloween graphics removed. - Added "Fog Maps" to the default map list (This was previously called Halloween Event Maps) - Turning Off Music now turns Off Ambience - Added an "Extras" Button (In Options and In-Game Pause Menu) - Fixed a bug where portal tint stays if you get stuck or die in a portal or end the game - Other bug fixes... Today is the 8th Anniversary of Murder Miners, the original Xbox 360 edition of the game was released on 9th September 2012. To celebrate we are temporarily updating the game with re-made versions of the original textures including blocks, weapons and effects along with the original sounds, and also the new weapons in the original style. We have also added 12 classic maps from older versions of the game to go along with the original textures. It also has received a laser pointed indicator (ala TF2) to reveal a snipers position and to let miners know if a sniper is waiting for them as they turn a corner. ----Fully charged Minergun blaster is no longer a one hit kill. ----Shotgun now reloads one shell at a time. ----The Murdership's attack has been buffed (explosions don't blast miners as far away from subsequent shots).

• Zombie Regurgitating! Sharing is caring, and what better way to care for your fellow zombies than by regurgitating up some sweet nourishment for them to level up on?
• Vile Wind Attack! In the interests of maturity, we decided to tone down our inner 12 year old and include a more measured, practical ability: The “wind” will travel to wherever the cursor is pointing when activated and serves primarily as a smoke grenade and secondarily for area prevention. They say if you listen to the wind as it passes (hehehe) you can hear the souls of devoured miners softly crying out in disgust.
• We’ve also added a text popup urging hosts to not abuse their banning authority, keeping it mainly for cheaters, spammers, and other extremely loathsome individuals.
• Some miscellaneous changes like the Miner Gun defaulting to blaster.

Took a quick break from working on Murder Miners X to update Murder Miners 1. The update is live on Steam now. Here's what we added:

• New ban options! You can now permanently ban a player from your current session or all of your future sessions. You can edit your blacklist via the blacklist.txt file. There's a few other hacking fixes included too.
• Infection changes! Zombies now start off with insta-tentacle shot and their devouring time and health recharge time have been reduced.
• JForce developers now have gold chat text to distinguish from JForce posers.
• A few default settings have changed along with some menu stuff. For instance, there's now a link to our Steam workshop when selecting a map so you can quickly get new maps right in the lobby.

Hey murderers, sorry again for the lack of updates on Murder Miners X (the sequel to Murder Miners). Jonny's had some big technical hurdles to get past while developing this game so he hasn't been as productive lately, but updates should start to get more frequent once he gets back to programming the more fun and exciting features. One of the things that took him awhile to get right was our networking solution, Bolt (now called Photon Bolt after the buyout). This is the best networking engine you can purchase for Unity. It means we basically have AAA-quality networking, with features like authoritative movement and lag compensation. Another thing that's been taking a lot of time is perfecting our animation system, trying to get aiming/rotating, strafing, etc. to work properly (unlike in MM1, where aiming straight up doesn't look correct from 3rd-person view, and doing a 180 turn just rotates the whole player around without leg movement, and strafing/backward walking animations don't exist). This has been pretty complicated, but we'll show this off in our next sneak peek video. In the meantime, here's some progress on a new weapon that will be in the game.

If you run into issues please post them in this forum section so the port developer, Ethan Lee, can help you out. Cross-platform multiplayer is in, so no matter which OS you use you still get to play with everyone else. Oh boy.

We may have Mac & Linux versions of Murder Miners 1 on the way. We have a dev working on that now and it looks like it's doable so far. We have basic cross-platform multiplayer working. Hopefully there won't be any huge technical hurdles that murder the project's feasibility.

Murder Miners X status

Recently Jonny started a fresh build for the game as the previous prototype build was becoming too complicated to work with. Working with Unity is very different from XNA. After starting this new build it was convenient to add in split-screen during this time (it would have been a bit more of a hassle to add it in later on top of other systems), so 6 player split-screen is in the game now:
We'll have an option to let you play 3x2 screens rather than the 2x3 screens there. Nothing shown in this video is finished. It's still very early. A lot of networking / 'under the hood' type stuff has been worked on in the past couple of months. We just got custom armor colors in. You'll be able to change two colors on each armor piece instead of one, plus we plan to have custom user-made skins available for both armor and weapons. One of our players who goes by the name of "LeFurger" made a metal remix of our theme song. It's really well-done, check it out! Did you know that our theme song was the result of a contest we ran? In a future post I'll show you some of the other submissions we had.

We just discovered last night that any player in a game can boot other players. Some guy was abusing it during our weekly playdate so we canceled it and promptly released the patch that night. This update also fixes the issue where you couldn't increase your sniper zoom level if you were using Hold to Zoom controls. Now you just press the "Special Alt Fire" key, which by default is the Alt key. Note this won't work in MapMaking Mode where Alt changes your sniper's destruction/creation radius.

Development of Murder Miners X is gradually coming along. More pics coming soon. A few weeks ago we decided to make the switch from Unreal Engine 4 over to Unity. This engine uses C# which is much faster/easier to code in, at least for Jonny, especially since he's used to XNA which also uses C# (UE uses C++). Originally we decided on UE4 because we thought it would be the safe choice especially in terms of avoiding networking bugs. But the on-going development of the 3rd-party Unity networking library, Bolt, and the realization of just how much longer coding the game in C++ would take and how much higher the system requirements a UE4 game would have, has tipped the scales. Switching to Unity shouldn't have any real impact on how our game will look since we were never going to use the full graphical capabilities of UE4 anyway. Also, possibly the best thing about Unity is that we could have an Xbox 360 version, with UE4 that's impossible. Though if we want this to happen we'll need Microsoft to approve the game for XBLA way before they phase out Xbox Live on 360, which is apparently going to happen in 2016. So we really need to buckle down and get something ready to submit to them sometime later this year. Before then though, we will be giving alpha access to PC pre-orderers, hopefully raising enough funds to purchase Voxel Farm. And after that we'll head to Early Access on Steam and then hopefully to Xbox 360 sometime later, and eventually Xbox One/PS4 and even iOS/Android if this game really takes off. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Meb9dRBrGFI

This update adds several new player options. You can now turn on/off the following: sprint, fast movement, turbo fire mode (where all weapons fire as fast as you can click your mouse), infinite ammo, and spawn beams. We also lowered the number of players required for achievements down to 6. Also changed the name of Murder Games to YOLO Mode!

In this update we decided to increase walking speed by 5% since we've had a few complaints about that. We also fixed the issue where a player's hitbox would spawn before the player was actually beamed in. And we fixed a little menu bug that was introduced in the last update.

This mode is now fully implemented. To recap, turning on Murder Games essentially just turns on 1 life, last man/team standing wins. It defaults to starting without weapons on a forest map with weapons in the center, a la Hunger Games. We also have two afterlife options: you can set it to where when you die you play as a spectator or as a zombie. We made this mode because there's huge demand for it on Xbox Live. We're playing this at 3pm CST today. Join us!

Added a new mode to Murder Miners on PC today: Murder Games! It's basically a Hunger Games style mode where you play as a zombie when you die. It's free-for-all MurderMatch, players start with no weapons. At the start of the match you can rush the center (on the default map) to get weapons. When you die, you respawn as a zombie (edit: we have another update coming that adds the option to respawn as a spectator instead). Last man standing wins. We're playing this right now for our weekly community playdate. Join us! We also added new zombie options, they'll be in a midnight update tonight. You'll be able to turn on "tank zombies" that have increased health but can't sprint. Plus there'll be an option to turn off tentacle grabs. This will all be added to the Xbox version too along with a few other small fixes.

AKA Murder Miners 2. It's now in development! We’re using Unreal Engine 4, with the hope of releasing on at least PC/Mac/Xbox One/PS4. We’re taking the core Murder Miners gameplay, fleshing it out and focusing on:

• a complete graphical overhaul, including smooth terrain and actual lighting
• extreme weapon diversity
• extreme player mobility
• open-world survival/infection mode: Basically the plan with this mode is that you’ll be exploring an infinite, procedurally generated world (maybe with non-procedural dungeons/temples hidden here and there), mining for resources and using those resources to build defenses and gain more weapons/vehicles which allow you to explore more of the world and explore it more efficiently, while combating AI and player-controlled zombies/creatures and other miners.
• matchmaking/ranking for competitive play. We want a big tournament scene for MMX (we even want the functionality to bet on games with real money, like a game called Blood Toll tried to do).
