I am happy to announce that Cardinal Sequence will release into version 1.0 this month, April 25th. That's in three weeks! Thank you to everyone who has helped me improve the game over the past months. With the release will come a heap of new features and improvements, namely the introduction of permanent rogue-lite modifiers, achievements, new cards and decks and more. Be sure to Wishlist the game to not miss the release. https://store.steampowered.com/app/3331370/Cardinal_Sequence/ See you soon.

I have been hard at work, adding many more features and content to Cardinal Sequence. This update greatly expands on the options and build variation available during runs. You can try out this update by downloading the Demo: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3514780 [previewyoutube=mmntFFD4ZGw;leftthumb][/previewyoutube] I also tried myself at a devlog for this update, talking about some of the additions made. Let me know what you think.
New Shop Section
The third section of the shop is available now! Finally, booster packs are no longer limited to be found on the map only. After every round, a selection of booster packs can be purchased as an alternative to buying cards directly. In return for a small upfront credits cost, you can try your luck at finding valuable cards of a specific category.

The visuals and variety of card packs are still a work in progress.
Crits
It is now possible for cards to crit when they are scored. A critical scoring guarantees the maximum points being generated, additionally boosted by the current crit power (default of +50%). Crit chance can go beyond 100%, which means there can be the chance for the crit power to be applied sever times.

Ways to increase crit chance and power are fairly simple at the moment but will be improved and expanded on soon.
Meta-Progression Card Unlocks
Expanding on the card discovery introduced in the last major update, some cards are now locked behind some additional requirements. These cards will not appear during a run until their requirements are met.

This system will see improved communication for when cards (and decks, for that matter) get unlocked or discovered in a future update.
More Card Editions
I have added several more editions to be found, bringing up the number of editions to 6. The new ones are:
- Shifting: 50/50 chance to double or halve rank
- Fractured: x2 mult, then halves rank
- Mirrored: +4 mult when scored
- Monochrome: +50 Score

Help Icons
Help Icons can now be found at some places. Hovering over them shows a quick reminder about the core mechanics of the game. They can be hidden in the options menu.
Improved Animations
I fixed and overhauled many animations, bringing a nicer and smoother experience to the game's flow. This is still an ongoing effort and I'd love to hear of your opinion on them.
Many More Cards
The number of cards to be discovered has surpassed 80. This is certainly not the last time new cards will be added. Many old (and new) cards also received their own models.
Updated Engine
I updated the Godot engine to version 4.4, bringing with it all the improvements and fixes introduced. And, of cause, a bunch of balance adjustments, bug fixes and other minor improvements I forgot to properly write down. Due to the significant changes made, existing save data will be reset.

In preparation for the upcoming Steam Next Fest, I am excited to have the Demo for Cardinal Sequence available to play now. This release comes with a major patch, bringing the game into beta status and introducing many new features and improvements compared to the playtest. https://store.steampowered.com/app/3514780 Check out the Demo Trailer here: [previewyoutube=LLD4aikPdgo;full][/previewyoutube] Here are some highlights of the Beta update:
New Card Render System
A major change is the complete rework of the card rendering system. The previous method, while functional, came with issues of card clarity and significant performance problems. The new system improves on both issues while also looking nicer in general.
Card Editions
Inspired by Balatro's card editions, which add some extra abilities to a card, I decided to also adapt that feature into Cardinal Sequence. For now, there is a small chance to find a card with the Polychrome or Stealth modifier. There will be more editions to discover in the game's full version.

A Polychrome Star with a Stealth Superconductor.
Card Discovery and Library
Cards are now undiscovered until acquired. With this, you can now browse all your card discoveries in the Library accessible from the main menu. There are over 50 cards to discover in the Demo, which will increase significantly in the full game.
New Music and Sounds
The game's music went up to 6 unique tracks, totaling over 35 minutes of spacey music. They switch dynamically, depending on the current phase of the game you are in. Some actions and effects also received new sounds.
In-Game Tutorial
The demo now also comes with a basic in-game tutorial, introducing you to the core mechanics of the game. This tutorial will be expanded in the future.
Many more Fixes and Improvements
There are many more, smaller fixes, improvements and visual updates. Download the Demo to check all of it out for free and don't forget to wishlist the full game too.
In Development
The game is still in active development. This means the Demo contains some unfinished or placeholder assets and probably a bunch of bugs. Please be patient while I continue to extend and improve the game for the upcoming (TBA) release. https://store.steampowered.com/app/3514780 For questions, feedback or just for fun, please join the Discord: https://discord.gg/5juxHhDZGz
