50k sales + small update on Kabuto Park localization

TL;DR: We are still working on new languages and full controller support, they should be there around December

Localizing a video game is a huge amount of work. Translating the texts is just a small part of it! You need to set up every sentence and every world in your game so it automatically translates, and now everything will be longer or shorter depending on the language so you need to make sure it always looks good by tweaking tons of parameters. Then of course it leads to new bugs so you need to test a lot and fix a lot. How about images with text in it? You need to redo those to, plus many other things that I won\'t list there.

Same goes for adding controller support to a game that was designed to be played with a mouse! It\'s not only a big design work but you really have to break everything and build it again.

On Minami Lane, I decided to take the months of work needed to do both on my own. I\'m proud of what I did back then, but seeing how painful it was, I decided not to do it on Kabuto Park. Seaven Studio, who did an awesome work on porting Minami Lane to consoles, offered to do it for me so that they could then port the game to the Switch. I agreed, and we started working on it that way: I supervise, they implement, and LocQuest, a great localization company that we worked with on Minami Lane, does the translation and LQA (localization quality assurance).

That means less work on my side, so I could rest a bit more during summer, work on other projects like the Doot Tiny Grant, and I\'m now starting to work on a new game with Blibloop. But that also means that it takes longer than if I did it myself! I hoped we could have something by now, but it\'s more likely going to be ready around December.

Kabuto Park 1.0.4 update

Hey everyone!

That launch is crazy! We got the Overwhelmingly Positive rating on the store page extremely fast, and sales are going much much faster than I expected. Thanks to this I'll be able to continue my life as an indie dev! Thank you so much
As always, a big thanks to people who reported bugs and issues on the Steam forums and on our discord. Here is a small update that fixes most of those.

Balancing

  • "Excite" card now costs 6 instead of 5.
  • Slight tweak to shiny probabilities. [spoiler] Shinies are slightly rarer than before in the late game but repeating spots with the max magnifier ability will boost the shiny chance slightly. This is a very small tweak but it will make it a tiny bit easier to find a specific shiny without making them feel less special. [/spoiler]

Bugs and fixes

  • Fixed shiny Roly Poly sprites having the wrong size in some UI panels.
  • Fixed achievements for catching all bugs in an area sometimes not triggering properly.
  • Fixed another visual bug on number of bugs and candies when selling a large number of bugs at once.
  • Fixed cards stacking in your hand if you used "Copy Action" after your opponent used "Amnesia".
  • Fixed minor bug that would induce a tiny lag if you launched the game with a demo save that contained no bugs caught.
  • Fixed typo on Roly Poly flavor text.

Other

  • Save backup will now happen a bit more often after you finish the game.
  • You cannot use honey during the animation after you caught or missed a bug.

Kabuto Park 1.0.3 update

Hey everyone!

I'm extremely thankful for how the release is going. Reviews are so positive, and sales are much better than anticipated. We sold almost 6k copies in 24h and it's still going strong!
A big thanks too to people who reported bugs and issues on the Steam forums and on our discord. Here is a small update that fixes most of those.

Balancing

  • Excited Flapping now costs 3 energy instead of 2.

Bugs and fixes

  • Fixed a game breaking bug that could happen if you paused a fight with the top left button and went back to menu with the fight still paused.
  • Fixed the deck panel appearing behind the opponent selection in post game, making it impossible to close it normally.
  • Fixed weird dates on bugs brought from the demo.
  • Fixed visual bugs on some big numbers (when selling a very large amount of bugs + other).
  • Fixed terrarium sometimes duplicating bugs.
  • Fixed terrarium info panel stuck open when quitting the terrarium with the panel open.
  • Fixed typo on card "Small Tenacity" (was Tenactity)

Other

  • The game will now do a backup save on every new in-game day. It's extremely rare and out of my control, but save corruption can happen if the game crashes for unknown reasons while saving. With this backup file I'll be able to help people if this happens.

Kabuto Park Demo 1.2.0 update

  • The game now saves automatically every time there is a transition screen! You can come back to see your awesome collection at any time now.
  • Ultra rare shiny bugs added to the game. Each bug in the demo now has its shiny variant with different colors and some nice sfx. They also usually have above average stats.

Balancing

  • Buffed Soothing Buzz by lowering cost.
  • Buffed Calm Down by lowering duration.
  • The last encounter with Doot (hey it's me!) is slightly harder and cooler.

  • Fixed typo in name of Cerulean Chafer.
  • Fixed duplicate sounds playing on top of each other.

Kabuto Park Demo 1.1.0 update

Hey everyone
I got some nice feedback on the demo, thanks a lot!
This update focuses on team selection and overall collection UX improvement.

Feel free to use the Steam forums or Discord to report any bug you find or give me some feedback!

New features

  • Heavy rework of the team selection. You can now select or unselect bugs for your battle team without opening each bug panel. It's also easier to clear your whole team to select a new one.
  • You can now sell multiple bugs at once directly from the collection by using a new quick action menu.
  • New cute cursor.
  • You can now catch bugs with the spacebar.
  • You can now skip the post capture size bar animation by clicking anywhere or pressing the spacebar.
  • The "new" tag will also appear in the bug panel the first time you look at bugs that you just caught.

Balancing

  • Opposing team will now always get the first push. I'll work back on this for the full game but having it as random without a proper UI to show it felt bad and could lead to some underwhelming fights.

Bugs and fixes

  • Fixed Kim's name (was called Jun 2)
  • Fixed a typo. (specy => species)
  • Fixed level up animation (title was not bouncing as expected)

Other

  • Changed the "Battle Selected" icon for two cute little swords instead of a boring checkmark.
  • Games now run in the background, music won't stop if you do something else like manage your chat while streaming.
  • Removed "base stats" sort options from collection to keep things simple.
  • Upgraded to latest Unity 2022.3.58f1 to avoid crashes during build and potential in game crashes.
