Update 0.5.8 is out!

Patch Notes - Beta1: 0.5.8 - 12/1/2015


  • Crop farming has been added! This is a pretty big feature and still VERY rough around the edges. Please see this forum post for details on how it all works: https://www.steambanditsoutpost.com/forums/index.php?p=/discussion/928/crop-farming-and-you
  • Added a new trade mission for selling your crops for gold. The interface for this is a bit different (and pretty temp). Clicking on the mission cost icon will open up a panel to select which crops to pack for the mission.
  • You can now rename your island and select which music track plays for people visiting your island. Click on the icon next to your island name to open up the Island Settings panel.
  • Removed a bunch of old resources and replaced them with the new stuff. Were still transitioning to the new resource system, so expect crafting/harvesting to still have temp stuff for now.
  • Added a new NPC to Runners Rest near the market named Mr. Fixit. Hes a helpful little guy that can unlock stuff in the shop for you that we add in patches. Definitely chat with him after every patch :-)
  • Added a bunch of resources to the Market in Runners Rest.
  • Fixed: NPCs on Runners Rest wouldnt talk to players. They were super shy, but we had a stern chat with them and theyll be more outgoing now.
  • Fixed: Game freezing sometimes after combat. We think we fixed it...


Coming Soon

  • More crop types.
  • Cooking.
  • Better UI stuff.
  • Funner combat. (yeah, I said funner!)

New Stuff

  • Lots of tutorial/prologue changes.
  • Captain Harquin redesigned
  • Combat abilities now come in 3 flavors: Instant, Turn, and Charged. Instant abilities will not consume your turn. Turn abilities consume your turn. Charged abilities are pretty strong, consume your turn, trigger after a charge-up time, and can be interrupted by other abilities (bosses use these a lot, so interrupting them is a good strategy)
  • Added combat conversations for more story hooks during fights.
  • Added the Walkie Talkie to allow characters to remotely phone the player. This is currently only used by Jonas, but well be using this all over the place eventually ;-)
  • The camera is now locked to the player while in their town (similar to Animal Crossing). The camera still is unlocked when placing buildings.
  • Clicking on something no longer moves you to it. Clicking on it again will move you to it. Now players can assess an enemy before auto-moving.
  • Default movement speed sped up a little.


Fixes

  • Lots of balance tweaks.
  • Lots of ability effects fixed.
  • Other fixes. (we really should keep better track of what weve fixed)

New Patch: Beta0: 0.4.0.171 is up and running!



New features:

Combat Update: Faster Fights, Cooler abilities, slicker UI, monsters updated
Level cap raised to 19.
The Atmid Survey Platform is a new area available to players ~ level 18.
Tonics have been added! A tonic can be used for healing, or restoring energy, and some do both. Currently you can only find these from loot, but future patches will allow you to craft them and purchase them from vendors.
Island Beacons have been added! Right now you only get one during the prologue, but well be adding A LOT more for the Beta1 patch. Once a beacon is activated, you can travel to the island its pointing to. If a beacon hasnt been activated, youll be able to trade it with other players.
Tier0 resources and been changed to Tier1 resources. This change wont be too noticeable unless you had a lot of Tier0 resources before (they have _OLD at the end of their name now). You can sell those at Runners Rest for some gold since you wont need them for anything.
The foundation has been set for item augments, gadget, and combat companions. Future patches will introduce these.


Fixes:

Existing players can once again purchase new islands. Youll need to talk to Archi and be level 12+. Hell have a conversation named (Prologue Fix). Simply choose that conversation and island purchasing should be unlocked in the shop!
More optimizations for mobile and tablet devices.
Combat abilities rebalanced.
Minor quest fixes.

  • Just about everything relating to monsters has been changed behind the scenes. We now have a lot more control when balancing them.
  • Fixed some quest icons not appearing.
  • Ability balancing for lower level items and monsters.
  • The tutorial sword was unable to be crafted, has been fixed.
  • Captain default equipment and weapons were not set to their initial unlock level, making them underpowered.

Hello, Skyrunners!

We looked at all your feedback and changed a few things for Patch 0.2.7


New Stuff:

Starting gear and prologue items stats/attacks fixed.
We have resumed testing on mobile devices.
How combat functions behind the scenes has been improved and is being balanced. Much more to come on this.
Combat health bars changed for better clarity.
New combat abilities are now being phased into the game. Look for many new abilities in the coming patches.
New music has been added to a few areas..

Island load times should be significantly faster.
When respawning, captains would only have partial health.
Combat islands are being improved.
Some enemies in the prologue had incorrect attacks and stats, making them much too difficult.
Minor game performance improvements.

Update: 5/5/2014 - v0.2.6

New Stuff


  • The inventory button now does something! You can find it in the top menu. We’re still working on it, but you’ll be able to view your inventory and remove stuff. In later patches, you’ll be able to get some resources back after disassembling an item.
  • The combat changes we’re planning are trickling in. No significant changes just yet, but there’s some minor cosmetic stuff.

Fixes

  • Folks that were stuck after Snake Grass Enclave can talk to Archi to get some extra XP. We plan on adding more routes to gain xp later, but for now Archi’s got you covered.
  • Skirmish islands have been rebalanced slightly.
  • Other minor island fixes.
  • Under the hood fixes to help the mobile version of the game.

Update: 4/20/2014 - v0.2.5

New Stuff


  • Friends! You can now add friends and visit their islands! Access the social panel from the top buttons. You can add friends either by their forum nickname or their skyrunner name. This is the first version of this feature, so expect bugs.
  • Most weapons now have sound effects during combat.
  • GUI reskinned with better art. This is still a work in progress.
  • The colorizing panel now shows bottles/paints, as well as color categories.
  • Nothing costs iocoins anymore. We’re removing that for now while we figure out the proper costs for things.

Fixes

  • Sound effects improvements.
  • Captain mission tweaks.
  • Players that were unable to purchase taverns/houses should be able to again.
  • A few weapon attack fixes.
  • Various island bugfixes.
  • A lot of desyncs should be resolved.

Update: 3/18/2014 - v0.2.4


New Stuff


  • The first version of the Prologue is in! The Skyrunner Recruitment Center is the first area players will experience when starting a new game. If you already have a character made but would like a character reset, let us know in the Steam Bandits forums: https://www.steambanditsoutpost.com/forums/index.php
  • New quest islands: Bristledon Cove, Darkheart Bay, Dry Pines Island, and Bullseye Cove.
  • New instance: Atmid Mining Base (think of an “instance” as a dungeon, but one that could be outside).
  • Level cap has been raised to 17!
  • Lots of new combat, safari, and resource islands, including new islands in the Southlands! Send your captains out on “advanced” captain missions to find them!
  • Two new player islands: one contains flox and one contains silica.
  • The first signs of structure NPCs! Be on the look-out for a few people working in your town buildings. Soon you will be able to meet all of them and go on quests to help them out!

Fixes

  • Fixed Linux time issues. Buildings should have proper build times now.
  • Loot drop improvements.
  • Snake Grass Enclave improved.
  • The majority of combat animations have had their timings improved.
  • Some quests and conversations have been edited for better grammar and narrative flow.
  • Player leveling rates have been improved to feel less rigid.
  • A few menu function and sizing improvements.
  • Characters now animate more realistically when entering and leaving conversations.
  • Many other under-the-hood improvements and tweaks. Too many to list here.
  • Re-balanced the Engineering Workshop resource crafting.

Known Issues

  • Some objects on Snake Grass Enclave and Rivet’s Isle have the lootable particle effect before they should.

Update: 2/11/2014 - v0.2.3


  • A new island, Runner's Rest, is now available. This special island features a Marketplace where resources can be bought and sold. It becomes available right after the tutorial. Just ask Archi about it!
  • Engineering Workshop can now refine resources (create Tier1-3 resources out of raw resources), but it’s more pricey than refining at the harvesters.
  • Engineering Workshop can now be built once the Office is at level 4.
  • All harvesters can now refine resources starting at the harvester level 2.
  • New resource islands added.
  • Gecko companion now in-game!
  • Jetpacks are no longer available from some chests.
  • Possible fix for the disappearing island floor issue.
  • Lots of GUI fixes.
  • Loot table corrections.
  • A few combat tweaks.

Update: 2/3/2014 - v0.2.0

New Stuff


  • Combat Overhaul! Combat now involves multiple enemies, team turns, icons, descriptions, and improved particle effects! Wow!
  • New Outpost Island. At level 10, talk to Archi to get a new outpost island! This new island has new resource nodes and extra space for you to expand your town. You can build and maintain on both islands at the same time.
  • Cottages and Townhomes. Worried about island space? At higher levels you can buy these better buildings that give increased housing.
  • More Resource and Safari islands added.
  • A few new captains added!
  • Wrist, Neck, and Face items are now colorizable.

Fixes

  • Alpha Tutorial improvements. Completing the alpha tutorial unlocks the full buy menu.
  • The flow of gold and resources has been reduced. Upgrading your harvesters and Tavern now extends how long they will acquire gold, rather than increasing income. It still is required to unlock new work orders and crafting recipes, depending on the building.
  • Lots of GUI fixes and optimizations.
  • A few better icons.
  • A few visual improvements on buildings.
  • Building pivots fixed. Rotating buildings should not cause them to jump around as much.
  • All sorts of monster balancing.
  • Paths build instantly.

New Stuff


  • Item names will be colored based on their rarity. More to come on this in the future.
  • A few visual improvements on buildings.
  • Icons and names for higher tier resources updated.
  • New pets are now in the game!
  • New Harvest and Safari islands! Send your captains out to get them.
  • Look for huge updates to combat coming soon!

Fixes

  • ”Heading to Atmid” quest can now be completed by talking to the Greeter on Atmid Survey Station and restarted if abandoned.
  • Clockbot Dragon and Knight should now be properly awarded to players. You’ll need a Companion Habitat built to deploy them.
  • Coggler’s Karst quests can now be repeated daily.
  • Rivet’s Isle: bonus chest location improved.
  • Package Retrieval mission bugfix.
  • General quest improvements.
  • Berry Bushes on a few islands are now reachable.
  • Tutorial Quests can now be restarted if abandoned.
  • Captain Missions now give appropriate rewards.
  • Unarmed attacks are no longer overpowered.
  • Buildings that disappear during quests are no longer clickable.
  • A few collision issues fixed.
  • Run speeds for a few pets adjusted.
  • Shop items fixed.
