Mythos Character Interview - Mara MacLachlan!

[/img]

Jessica Lee: Good morning, and welcome back. Today we go back to interviewing characters from Mythos, starting with Detective Mara MacLachlan. Welcome to the show, Mara.

Mara MacLachlan: Thank you for having me, Jessica. Happy to take a break from helping Ky through their "mortal" troubles.

JL: So you're saying the main character faces some real peril, then?

MM: (Laughing) Apparently, but... there obviously can't be the death of the main character, being as they live to tell this tale. I know it sort of lowers the stakes a bit, but being as the narrator can't tell the story when they're dead...

JL: Well, I don't know about that -- have you ever seen Casino?

MM: Oh. That's a good point.

(Author's Note: Whoops. I guess I should have warned there's a Casino spoiler in here.)

JL: So the events of the game have alerted the police on a State level?

MM: In a sense, yes. Without going into too much detail, Howard County Police were the first on the scene, but due to some specific circumstances, I have to get involved.

JL: I see. And I assume you can't detail those specifics?

MM: Not if I value my life!

JL: Then let's talk more about you! Are you a supernatural creature?

MM: (Pause) Not everyone in the story is going to be some sort of monster, you know.

JL: Er, right... sorry. So you're just a regular police detective?

MM: "Regular" doesn't really sound much better. I'm a damned good detective, that's why I was promoted so young.

JL: Well, that does sound impressive. Sort of like Sherlock Holmes?

MM: "You see, but you do not observe." I wouldn't quite put myself on his level, but I notice things that probably escape others.

JL: Oh? Can you give us an example?

MM: Are you sure you really want that...?

JL: Sure! I think we'd love to see what we're in for from you in Chapter Two.

MM: You're profoundly insecure about yourself.

JL: I'm sorry...?

MM: In Western cultures, most read in their language from left to right. As such, people tend to subconsciously sweep their vision in the same way. You always make sure you're seated so that you're on the left side of the screen, so that the viewer will always notice you.

JL: Oh. Um

MM: Additionally, you make sure your outfit always sets you apart from the set. For every interview you've conducted, the set has been redesigned to that particular character's colour B's set was blue, Rain's was green, and so on. That means the subject of your interviews always sort of blends in with the set, whereas you always stand apart. Your outfits also match the colour of the character you're interviewing next, proving that you're very conscious of these colour themes.

JL: I didn't

MM: It can't be a coincidence that you're wearing an outlandishly pink suit; you try to stand out, but you haven't worn anything quite so garish. This says to me that you're possibly interviewing Becki (With An I) on your next show, but you didn't own anything sufficiently pink and this is the best you could find on short notice, since you didn't know character interviews were going to continue after mine.

JL: (Staring)

MM: But there's more to it. There's an underlying reason for you to draw attention to yourself beyond vanity and self-doubt... no, you crave affirmation in your life as a journalist, because there's some other aspect of your life you need to keep se

JL: (Cutting in, loudly) And that's all the time we have for today! Tune in next time, where I sit down with Becki (With An I) to talk about her part in Mythos!

MM: Called it!

JL: (Trying to maintain her smile) Thank you, Baltimore! This is Jessica Lee, WETT Channel 6 News, reminding you to keep the legends alive!

Stage Manager: And we're clear!

JL: I didn't need you to dissect me on the air like that.

MM: Well, you asked...

JL: You didn't have to be so brash about it... wait, do you have family in Edinburgh?

MM: Eh... Probably, with my name being as it is, but nobody I know.

You follow the story of the main character – which you may choose to be male or female – as they learn of the mysterious death of their ex-girlfriend, Lisa Harrison. Soon, the main character finds themselves fumbling through the hidden society of supernatural beings that lurk in plain sight. Some are very much like the legends suggest, while others couldn’t be further from what one would expect.

Will our hero piece together the puzzle behind the murder of Lisa Harrison, or will they be consumed by new attention they’ve brought upon themselves?

Solving a murder while also discovering that there's a whole supernatural world out there is quite a feat, but thankfully you'll have some help! A rowdy country-girl childhood friend, a tricky fae, and even a police detective are amongst your allies as you unravel the threads.

Of course... who's to say that these accomplices aren't also suspects?

Why is the word "adult" in quotes, up there?

Simply put, "Mythos, Book One" does have some sexual content in it. Five lovely ladies are helping you with your investigation, and as you investigate Lisa's death, you may find yourself becoming romantically entangled with one (or all!) of them. If that happens, things can get very spicy, very quickly. However, you can also choose to completely forgo any romantic encounters at all, choosing to instead focus only on the detective work. Whichever you pick, the core story of the murder investigation will be unaffected by whatever amorous side quests you choose to partake in. Mythos is, first and foremost, a mystery visual novel. There's just some naughty bits thrown in if that's the sort of thing you're into.

And for those of you who want the romance without the naughtiness (or if you plan to stream the game), there's a toggle that lets you skip right past any of the NSFW bits, even if you do choose to get closer to one of the ladies.
