You follow the story of the main character – which you may choose to be male or female – as they learn of the mysterious death of their ex-girlfriend, Lisa Harrison. Soon, the main character finds themselves fumbling through the hidden society of supernatural beings that lurk in plain sight. Some are very much like the legends suggest, while others couldn’t be further from what one would expect.
Will our hero piece together the puzzle behind the murder of Lisa Harrison, or will they be consumed by new attention they’ve brought upon themselves?

Solving a murder while also discovering that there's a whole supernatural world out there is quite a feat, but thankfully you'll have some help! A rowdy country-girl childhood friend, a tricky fae, and even a police detective are amongst your allies as you unravel the threads.
Of course... who's to say that these accomplices aren't also suspects?

Why is the word "adult" in quotes, up there?
Simply put, "Mythos, Book One" does have some sexual content in it. Five lovely ladies are helping you with your investigation, and as you investigate Lisa's death, you may find yourself becoming romantically entangled with one (or all!) of them. If that happens, things can get very spicy, very quickly. However, you can also choose to completely forgo any romantic encounters at all, choosing to instead focus only on the detective work. Whichever you pick, the core story of the murder investigation will be unaffected by whatever amorous side quests you choose to partake in. Mythos is, first and foremost, a mystery visual novel. There's just some naughty bits thrown in if that's the sort of thing you're into.
And for those of you who want the romance without the naughtiness (or if you plan to stream the game), there's a toggle that lets you skip right past any of the NSFW bits, even if you do choose to get closer to one of the ladies.

Hello there, Steam-based Mythies!
It\'s your old pal Nine here with some end-of-the-year cheer to spread. It was a long road with a whole bunch of bumps, but 2025 was the year that I actually completed my first story and put it out there for the world to see. Sure, it may not have exploded in popularity (not yet, anyway), but I\'m actually immensely proud of myself for just having done it. So many solo devs never manage to finish their games, but here we are.
This isn\'t the end for Mythos, though - as I\'ve already mentioned. I\'ve taken my time off to relax and pursue my own things, but now the work on Book Two begins.
For those who weren\'t around for the development of Book One, it\'s gonna be a ride. There\'s character interviews and short stories that get released alongside each chapter of the game as it comes out. Chapter One of Book Two is going to be the \"demo\" of the next game, which I plan to have as an early access title so people can play it chapter by chapter as it comes out.
I\'ll have a store page up for Book Two while I\'m doing development, so you\'ll be able to follow along with me on my journey. I do hope you will, because 2026 is going to be the start of the next entry in my Mythos journey.
Well... after MAGFest, at least. I have a cosplays to get sorted out...
Thank you all for being with me through 2025, and here\'s to staying together through 2026.
Keep the legends alive!\n- Nine

Hello, Mythies!
Last month I asked y\'all to submit your questions to \"Ask Mythos Anything!\" These questions could be toward me or any of the characters in the game (or games, since Book Two characters were on the table). Indeed, the questions were asked!
Most of the questions were for me, which makes sense; all of Book One is done so there\'s not much left to ask those characters. Little is known about the Book Two cast, but each of them got at least one question! Heck, even Morgana (my real-life spouse) got some questions.
Please note that there are hella spoilers for Book One in here, so if you haven\'t finished the first game you may not wanna look any further.
Without further ado, let\'s start with the questions given directly to me...
[/img]
For Nine: Will each book be a murder mystery, or will there be different kinds of stories in the Mythos world?
Nine: I plan on each book being at least a mystery in the sense that something is happening and you need to figure out why. They wont all be murder mysteries, because thatd be kinda weird after a while.
Theyll also have a different narrative structure regarding the central mystery. For example, the mystery of Book One (Lisas death) happened before you even start the game. In Book Two, you spend more time getting to know the characters before the mystery even appears.
For Nine: Which character in Book 1 was the hardest to work with and why?
Nine: I can tell B is probably glaring at me, but she wasnt really the hardest because writing her lines came pretty naturally. Id say the hardest to write for was probably Sophia. Its not just because her mindset is so inhuman, but I have to remind myself not to use contractions or abbreviations constantly. I personally hate acronyms and avoid them as much as possible, but Sophia takes this to a whole new level.
For Nine: Aside from numbering, do the books have proper subtitles? (i.e. Mythos: Gaslighting a Beacon)
Nine: Gaslighting a Beacon is pretty good! But yes, all the books do have proper subtitles. Other than Book One (Lisas Story), all the other games are going to have their subtitles stated from the very beginning. Book Twos has even been announced: Legendary Lore.
For Nine: Are there any return/cameo characters from Book 1?
Nine: Oh, for sure! Two of the love interests in Book Two (Jodi and Violet) were characters in Book One, and some others are going to be back in non-romantic capacities.
For Nine: Which character do you relate to the most in Book One? And (without spoilers, of course) the same question for Book Two as well.
Nine: They say theres a little bit of the author in every character they write, and thats definitely true of Mythos. However, the ones I most relate to in Book One are certainly Kylie and B. Kylie has a lot of my real-life backstory built into her, and B has a lot of my personality.
As for Book Two characters, its hard to say until I actually start writing more as them, but I have a sneaking feeling that Jodi is gonna be pretty relatable for me.
Theres also the Waitress in Book One. I definitely see something of myself in her.
For Nine: Can we have a pet in Book Two?
Nine: I was actually going to have a pet in Book One, but I thought theyd be a little redundant with the cats. Vic may have a pet, but I havent really thought that far.
For Nine: If someone gave you a time machine and you could go back in time and start making Book One from scratch, what would you do differently? What would be your first change?
Nine: Well, the first thing Id do is not try to store all my variables as classes. Not everyone is going to know what that means, but it wreaked hell when RenPy updated and broke a lot of my variables.
I originally had the idea of stats for the characters, so Ky would have actual numerical values for funny and intelligent, and thered be love points for all the love interests. I got rid of the stats because they didnt really accomplish anything, and I got rid of the love points because the characters\' relationships should be focused more on important decisions rather than youve done 6 nice things, heres some sex.
For Nine: Will we see some characters \"unlock their inner animal spirit\", like we saw with Tara?
Nine: To say Tara unlocked an inner animal spirit isnt quite accurate; Tara can change into several animal forms (in the game, she uses wolf and raven forms), but none of them are due to any personal spiritual connection with said animals. One could say thats a more genetic thing, really. If you know, you know.
However, spiritual animalism is definitely something some characters have. Rin is the most obvious example, but there are some more on the way.
For Nine: How does someone become a Celestial? Is the faith of the people enough, or is something else needed? And approximately how many people\'s convictions are needed for this? Did the Roman emperors become gods, like the pharaohs? Is it possible in the world of Mythos for an ordinary person, such as the MC, to become a celestial?
Nine: I clustered all these questions together because theyre all in the same general category. Not only that, but theyre actually a central theme of Book Two (thus the title Legendary Lore).
Celestial is a very blanket term that covers basically any being that could be associated with divinity. Thus, its all the gods, angels, demons, devas, holy spirits, and so forth. However, as seen in The Ascent of Hatshepsut, mortals can ascend to Celestial status through a sort of apotheosis.
Being as this is likely going to be a big part of Book Two, I wont go too deep into how these things work mechanically, but this is something even the Celestials dont fully grasp. Clearly, Hatshepsut wasnt the only Celestial to be lost to time, but (with Seshats help) she was the first to come back from that fate. Is she the same Hatshepsut, or a copy created through humanity rediscovering her? You could ask the same question of her original ascent: Did Hatshepsut the mortal become Hatshepsut the Celestial, or was the Celestial formed completely anew?
What I will say right away is that not all Celestials were worshipped as deities. Some legendary characters of folklore have become Celestials through the belief and love of humanity, as well as some mortals who have captured the hearts and minds of the people. This is also a big part of Book Two.
For Nine: Have you read Riley Sager\'s book, Home Before Dark? If so, are you planning a similar story in Mythos?
Nine: Ive actually never heard of it, but having just read the synopsis, I may just pick it up soon
For Nine: Will Book Two also be a comedy?
Nine: According to some people, Book One wasnt even a comedy! Hah.
But seriously, yes, I plan to have the entire series keep a comedic tone, even if some of the subject matter can veer into heavy territory. If theres a bit of the backstory that needs to be more serious, I try to relegate that to the Tales from Mythos series. I would not approach topics as serious as those seen in Never Again through a comedic lens.
For Nine: Have you ever exercised?
Nine: I actually have, off and on. Im awful at sticking with it, though. I still have an active gym membership, and I really prefer to do cardio to strength training, but I know I have to get back to it in some form.
In my younger days, I was far more active. Id actually studied two different martial arts in my 20s (budo taijutsu and muay thai). I dont think Ill get back into that, but I should at least hit the elliptical a few times a week.
For Nine: As a writer, are you satisfied with Book One, or is there anything you would change?
Nine: I think Im largely satisfied with Book One, as far as the main story goes. Ive said many times that it was originally written without a romantic arc in mind (let alone six of them), so Im trying not to let those being added be part of my own self-critique.
Though I will say that being satisfied with it doesnt mean there arent things I wouldnt change. If I were to write Book One as a standalone novel (like it was before it was a game), I would definitely do things somewhat differently. Tara would be the only love interest until Lisa reappears and causes some interesting conflicts. B would become a person of indeterminate gender; in the original novel, B was written with a running joke that nobody knew what gender B was, and they were afraid to ask. This was before I really understood non-binary people (let alone come to realise I was one, myself), so now Id just say B is They/Them. Rain would go back to appearing like an old woman. Id probably drop Area 42 entirely, since they were mostly included to widen the suspect pool.
Theres probably a bunch of things Id change from the writing side that Im forgetting, but those are the changes that come to mind.
For Nine: Now that Book One has been available on Steam for a little while, how is it faring commercially? And how does its commercial success compare to your goals (or hopes) leading up to the launch?
Nine: Going toward the Steam release, I had a sort of range of what I was hoping for. I didnt really have a set goal going into it; my humble expectation was that if I sold 100 copies, thatd be fair. Of course, there was a little part of me that was hoping Mythos would rake in quit your job levels of money, but thats certainly not where it ended up.
However, I am happy with how Mythos is performing so far. I know its more niche than most adult games, since the adult content is such an afterthought, so Im pleased its doing any numbers at all.
For Nine: What if I don\'t want to submit my questions and would rather dominate them?
Nine: I cant even begin to fathom how one would do this
For Nine: What is your favourite mortar calibre? Light, easy carrying 60mm, versatile 81mm, powerful heavy 120mm?
Nine: I think there has to be a joke in here Im missing. Otherwise, I really have no idea how to answer the question! I suppose I could check the War Thunder Discord and look up all the government secrets to educate myself
For Nine: With which AVN devs are you currently in contact?
Nine: I still regularly talk to RJ Rhodes (Come Home), Joss from ViM Studios (A Shot in the Dark/Prince of Suburbia), Droosk (Between Two Worlds), Storm and Slockie (AlterWorlds), Aya (Sakura Blossom Games), and Moonlight (Glowing Stones). Were all pretty busy people, so its not like I talk to all of them every day, and there are a few others Id consider to be friends that I dont speak to as often as I like (ClassyLemon, NaughtyRoad, Dax, and others I feel awful for probably forgetting).
For Nine: Do you plan to put some references to other games in Book 2?
Nine: I would surely like to, but I dont know how many I can do. Back when I first started working on Book One, I was still playing a lot of other games. Nowadays, I dont really keep up with any other adult games, so the crossover potential is a lot lower. If another dev wants to work something out, Id of course be happy to! I just dont have any other games Im playing right now where Id even think to approach another developer for that sort of thing.
For Nine: Do you prefer players who use a lot of rollback to decide which path they like best or players who just stick to their choice and let nature take its course?
Nine: I dont really have a preference, per se; Im a big advocate for play how you want. For example, I dont mind people who cheat at single-player games, so rollback certainly isnt something Im against (hell, I do it myself if I dont like where I see a choice going). Thats why I try to make my games in such a way that a mod isnt needed.
People have still made mods, but I honestly dont know what theyre for.

For Morgana: Do you and Nine talk about Mythos? If so, do you provide them with ideas or perhaps criticism?
Morgana: Yes and yes. And sooooo much criticism. But its helpful criticism that they adore and have never had an issue with ever.
For Morgana: Have you ever used any of the great jokes used in Mythos on Nine, or ever did a mimicry of one of the characters?
Morgana: Every day, all day.
For Morgana: Morgana did some kind of WWE shit on me when she got home from work and that helped.\" I\'m quoting Nine (from the Discord) here. This might be a funny question, but what special trick did you do that helped Nine with their back problem?
Morgana: Basically a Razors Edge (WWE move), without the throwing at the end.
For Morgana: May I ask what kind of muscular build Morgana has that she easily lifts Nine?
Morgana: Im a warehouse manager! I lift things up and put them down professionally! Im 411, but Im strong!
[/img]
For the main cast: For each of the main girls, what is their favourite thing about themselves?
Tara: Im funnier than Ky. Hell, Im funnier than all these other bitches.
Sophia: I am smart enough that I do not need to overcompensate with humour.
B: How am I supposed to pick one thing? Im fucking perfect!
Rain: I can always get what I want, even when it looks like I havent.
Mara: I, um well, Im immune to magic, apparently, so thats cool?
Lisa: Im not dead, anymore. Or never was, I guess.
[/img]
For Becki (With an I): Where did you meet Ennai? How long have you two been together?
Becki (With an I): Well, looks like someone didnt read my side-story! Humph! But the short answer is that he came to me offering a way to help my mother survive, and I accepted his offer. That was gosh, just a little bit after high school, I think?
[/img]
For Ennai: In your first talk with Ky, you said between two and three and a quarter guardian angels. The first two are obvious, as is the quarter. Who is number three?
Ennai: The quarter is obvious? Well, Ill leave that one alone then, and let the people who havent figured it out to wonder. Number three, though, is myself. Arguably Im still an angel, even if the angels dont think I am.
For Ennai: How do you perceive Cult of the Void activity, since Ky is surrounded by it, and I just dont see it?
Ennai: The Cult has some giveaways to their activity, when you know where to look. One of their biggest tells is that they want there to be strife between the factions of supernaturals, as well as between humans and supernaturals. The death of Lisa was obviously cult-motivated since that would turn all the magic-types against everyone, while making the Bureau look like villains is another. Then involving the police? Brilliant moves, really.
[/img]
For Violet: What was your most embarrassing magical accident to date?
Violet: Magical accident? I guess there was the one time I shrunk Desmonds pants. I dont even remember what I was trying to do. I dont know why he was so mad about it, though.
Desmond: I was wearing them at the time!
[/img]
For the Waitress: How are you since the disaster that struck T\'s Diner?
Waitress: Me? Oh, goodness, Im fine, thank you for asking! I mean I kinda of expected it, honestly, the way I er, I mean the way Nine was having so much difficulty rendering in the diner.
For the Waitress: Did you have good insurance on Ts Diner?
Waitress: Oh, it was good but sadly not good enough for me to consider rebuilding and reopening it. I dont think youll be seeing Ts Diner again.
For the Waitress: Any chance we will see you again in Book Two?
Waitress: I think, if you look very closely, you may see me in Book Two.
[/img]
For Nine: Is there a tentative cast list for Book 2?
Nine: Tentative? I actually have a full cast list! I wont go over every single character that appears (or may just loom in the background), but the main characters are Vic Mercury (the main character) and four love interests (Hattie, Melanie, Jodi, and Violet - articles linked). And it looks like some people have questions for them, already
[/img]
For Vic: What\'s your problem with the supernatural?
Vic: My problem? It should be bothering everyone! Like why is everyone so calm about fuckin wizards and shit? Am I supposed to be okay with the idea that I could be walking down the street and a vampire jumps out and bites me?
Sylvia: We dont really do that, anymore
Vic: Back off, bitey, or Im gonna throw a handful of garlic powder in your eyes.
B: You just keep that shit in your pocket or something?!
[/img]
For Melanie: Can you only heal physical injuries/illnesses, or mental issues as well?
Melanie: If I could heal mental issues, I wouldnt have to heal the physical issues so often. Any medical professional will probably tell you, most of the injuries we have to deal with are from patient stupidity. Skiing is dangerous as hell, but every year we have something like 600,000 people getting hurt because they wanna throw themselves down a mountain.
Yeah, Ill still heal you, but god damn are you stupid for letting it happen in the first place.
[/img]
For Hattie: What does your power manifest in? Did all pharaohs become gods/goddesses?
Hattie: Well, now! It would appear some of you have already figured out who I am. Its revealed rather early on in Book Two, so I dont believe Ill be ruining things by answering your questions.
All the Pharaohs, at some point, did become Celestials, yes. Due to the belief in our divinity, we sort of ascended after death by default. Sadly, many of us have passed on due to being totally forgotten. As far as I know, Im the only one to return.
For Hattie: Did you take revenge on your brother?
Hattie: Revenge? Quite the opposite; I believe he has learned of my return and is plotting in the shadows as we speak. With the supernatural being known to the public, he may not even need to be quite as subtle about it.
For Hattie: As a celestial being, are you above human emotions?
Hattie: If Celestials were above human emotions, B wouldnt even be part of these stories.
B: Rude! Fair, but rude!
[/img]
For Jodi: What do you actually do for a living?
Jodi: You seem to think theres more to me than working for an insurance company? What else could there be to me?
For Jodi: Did you know your cousin is a beacon?
Jodi: Im not even sure what that means. Do they glow in the dark or something?
For Jodi: You were in all three Nelsons Sick Day stories, but they were all different from each other in ways that go beyond just POV bias. How did things happen from your perspective?
Jodi: My perspective? I dont remember that day at all.
[/img]
For the cast: Dear Mythos. Nipple piercing for men. Yay or nay?
Ennai: Ooooh, yay!
Becki: Not in my body, you ain\'t!
Ennai: Boo. Maybe we can pierce Aiden\'s, then...
Aiden: ...
Lilith: I may pierce a man\'s nipple as I stab him through the heart.
B: Wow, really overplaying the whole \"villain\" thing...
Nine: Ooookay, I think that\'s a good place to leave it for now!
Be on the lookout for Book Two news coming soon! The main plot has all been worked out, so I just gotta start banging out scripts and getting my PC upgraded so I can start doing renders, again (one of the critiques I got a lot was that the renders look \"dated\" in Book One, so I wanna take my game up a notch).
If you read this much, thank you! If you didn\'t, you\'re not seeing this anyway, so I can say anything I want. Aardwolf piss titanium nail clippers. See? You can\'t see that.
Keep the legends alive!\n- Nine
Hello, Mythies!
It\'s 9/9, so I figure on this lovely Ninesday I should give you all a special treat. For long-time Mythies, you\'ll be mostly familiar with \"Ask the Dev\" and \"Ask the Cast\" But it\'s going to be a little different this time around.
Just what the heck is goin\' on, here?
As Mythos, Book One was being developed, I\'d open myself up for questions between each chapter release. These \"Ask the Dev\" segments were basically much like your standard \"Ask Me Anything\", but I wouldn\'t be answering them in real time. Instead, there was a window for question submissions, and then I\'d compile all the questions and answer them in an article.
Also, between chapters, I would have a totally different window for \"Ask the Cast\", which would enable players to ask questions directly to the characters in Mythos. If you\'ve read any of the character interviews I posted here, it\'s much like an interactive version of those; a fourth-wall breaking look into the lives of the Mythos cast.
This time, it\'s gonna be both. You can ask questions of me. You can ask questions of the characters. You can ask questions to Morgana (my real-life wife), if you really want to. She\'s under no obligation to answer, but you can sure try.
So what can I ask?
Quite literally anything. It doesn\'t even have to be related to Mythos. You can ask me about my favourite dinosaur. You could ask Rain about skincare techniques. No question is really off-limits.
That being said, there\'s no promise that every question will get answered. And even then, there\'s no guarantee that the questions to the characters will be answered honestly. Plus, if the answers to any questions would spoil something in a future game, I will probably not answer directly. I\'ve asked the cast to also not give away spoilers, but sometimes they let things slip if they\'re asked just the right question and they\'re in the right mood. You know how characters can be...
Who in the cast can I ask?
Anybody that you know exists. That means it can be any character that you\'ve seen on screen, in the Tales from Mythos, in a preview image, or even the cast of Book Two (the main cast of which has been announced to crowdfunders)!
You can even make the question\'s target somewhat vague, like \"to whoever Monica\'s boss is\" or \"the bald guy at Sylvia\'s gala\".
Just remember to specify who the question is for. There\'s no limit on the number of questions you can ask! If you ask a question to \"the whole cast\", only a few of them will respond I\'m not going to go down the line and have every single character answer what kind of bread they like.
How do I ask questions?
There are so, so many ways you can ask things! The easiest way is probably just replying to this post with your questions, though there are other methods.
You can get to me on my Bluesky account , either through DM or @ me. I don\'t actively look at the bird platform, though my account still exists there, so if you try to message me on there I will not see it.
You can send me a private message on one of my crowdfunding platforms! If you\'re a subscriber there, that\'s likely where you\'re seeing this post.
You can email me! I mean, it\'s a strange way to do it, and I have no idea if you\'ll get stuck in the spam filter or not, but you can try. I\'m \"nine at nineofswords dot studio\". I\'m sure you can figure out how to format that as an actual email address.
You can post your question in the #ask-mythos-anything channel on the Nine of Swords Discord . I tend to take your questions and copy/paste them into that channel for my own organisation anyway.
When can I ask questions?
Questions are open right now! The cut-off to submit your questions is going to be Sunday, September 21st, at 10:00 PM Eastern time. I don\'t know what time that is in your time zone, because I don\'t know where you live, so like... use Google or something. I\'m not your mother.
The post with all the answers will go up about a week later, depending on how many questions I get.
I look forward to hearing from you!

\nWelcome back, Mythies! Or, for those of you who are only now discovering the world of Mythos: Welcome! You are now one of the Mythies. No takebacks.
Its been a long time since Ive posted an update, and theres so much to cover that I had to organise my thoughts a bit. I wanted to have this posted last night, but it became so long and rambly that I decided to start over with a more clearly defined outline of things I need to cover. Its still gonna be long, but at least its organised! Lets start with\n
Book One Postmortem
What I learned, and how Ill be applying it to Book Two\n
[p align=\"justify\"]Mythos, Book One was my first game. While Im satisfied with how the story shook out, there are quite a few things I learned that are going to shape how Im going to develop future games.[/p][p align=\"justify\"]Bear in mind that I havent even begun work on Book Two yet. Yes, I have the general plot knocking around in my head, but I havent even sat down to work out an outline of how things specifically go. Unlike with Book One, I dont have a base novel to work off of, so this outline is going to be more thorough as Im not reworking an existing story. On the other hand, since this is being planned as a game (rather than a novel), it may adapt better to the player experience.[/p][p align=\"justify\"]There are a few minor adjustments Ill be making, such as never using Investigation Mode again, possibly making the achievements a bit easier, and reducing some of the musics repetitiveness. In fact, Im already looking to redo the Diner/Nines Theme so its a little less grating on the ears. I also learned not to make so many images that contain text, because that becomes an absolute nightmare when the time comes for translations.[/p][p align=\"justify\"]So now come the big things I need to talk about as we head into Book Two:[/p]\n Relationships felt like an afterthought!
[p align=\"justify\"]Even amongst Mythos biggest fans, the number one complaint by far is that there was very little substance to the relationship/romance aspects. Id argue that only Taras path felt logical. This is one of the side effects of the game being adapted from a novel where the main character was asexual. I had to shove relationships into a story that was originally not meant to accommodate them.[/p][p align=\"justify\"]Book Two is different. Being built from the ground up as a visual novel, I can have relationships be a stronger focus, though I still want the story to be enough to stand on its own, even if you want to forgo any sort of dating. The first chapter (which Ill be releasing as the demo version) isnt even going to have any adult content in it; just introductions to the story and the characters, and perhaps giving you an idea of who you may want to set your sights on as the story progresses.[/p][p align=\"justify\"]While I dont plan on forcing monogamy, I also dont plan on having any of the girls outright state how cool they are with you banging everyone. Thats not really how real relationships evolve, so Im probably going to frame it more like youre just starting your relationships with these girls, and while there may be sex, there isnt going to be the talk about the future until very near the end of the game.\n[/p]Payment Processors are prudes.
Most of you have probably already seen something about this, since the news has blown up pretty much everywhere. Payment Processors are trying to be the moral police and crack down on what they allow people to spend their money on. Youd think that they would be required by law to accommodate any legal purchases, but apparently not! In an age where so much commerce is done online, for some reason, the payment processors required for that online commerce are allowed to be the arbiters of what you can buy. There are plenty of movements to fight against this (Im doing my best to push for them, as well), but so far, the future of adult games being legitimately purchasable is still kinda up in the air.
As such, I have to really think about how I want to distribute Mythos, Book Two. Naturally, I want to have it on Steam, but if things keep going this way, that could be difficult. I could remove the adult content and provide an NSFW patch on my website, but that feels clunky, and I also dont know if players would want to go through that extra hassle. Then again, if all adult games are forced to go this route, its probably going to be just the accepted norm that if you wanna see naughty stuff, you gotta get a patch separately.
This has also hindered any plans I have had for releasing Book Two in early access on Steam, because it seems Steam will no longer support early access for NSFW games. Thats not such a big deal, since Book One wasnt on Steam until it was finished, but it means that I dont even have the option of distributing it chapter-by-chapter on Steam like I had been doing on crowdfunding platforms
That leads me to
[p align=\"justify\"][/p]I need a PC Upgrade!
[p align=\"justify\"]My current PC (Sombra) was purchased five years ago specifically to make Mythos, Book One. Shes starting to show her age, so I really want to get a new one before I start doing the heavy stuff in Mythos, Book Two.[/p][p align=\"justify\"]That can be a problem, though. Daz (the software I use for the visual elements of Mythos) still doesnt support the NVIDIA 5000 series video cards, and every off-the-shelf PC Ive seen so far comes with a 5000 series card. I may have to go a custom route to have one built with a 4000 series card, or wait for Daz to update and work with the 5000 series. I really dont wanna start doing renders until I have this new rig in place, since I dont want to have to switch PCs in the middle of production.[/p]\nAsk the Cast/Ask the Dev
This ones always a fun time!
[p align=\"justify\"]\nThis isnt the formal announcement, so dont start hurling questions at me! This is my warning announcement, so you know to get your questions ready and not miss the submission window (you know who you are). This is also a preview for those of you new to being Mythies and dont know about this fun little perk.[/p][p align=\"justify\"]Periodically (usually once per chapter update), I will open up questions for an article called Ask the Cast or Ask the Dev. Ask the Dev is basically an Ask Me Anything segment where you ask questions and I answer them. These questions dont even have to be about Mythos or game development at all![/p][p align=\"justify\"]Ask the Cast is kind of the same thing, only youre talking to the characters. If youve read the character interviews posted for Book One, its a similar concept. Basically, the characters will fully break the fourth wall to talk about their experiences in the game world, with the questions coming directly from the players.[/p][p align=\"justify\"]This time around, the two articles are going to be the same: Ask the Cast and Ask the Dev are going to be done at the same time. God help me.[/p][p align=\"justify\"]Because were currently between games, the questions are probably going to have an even wider range than before! Keep an eye out next week for the announcement that questions are open![/p]Personal Life Happenings
Since some of yall care about me.
[p align=\"justify\"]\nAll this time without game updates has meant an equal amount of time without any Nines Personal Life updates! Generally speaking, Ive been enjoying this month of lessened stress (despite my wanting so badly to start working more on Book Two). During this time, I got to dip my toes into different things.[/p]Hey Nine, Whatcha Playin?
[p align=\"justify\"]I got to play a whole bunch of games during my downtime! I was already starting to get into Genshin Impact before Book One was done, but I dove much harder into it when I had nothing to keep me away. I played a fair bit of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (I really need to finish that) and a lot of Slay the Spire and Hades.[/p][p align=\"justify\"]My Genshin playing has tapered off a bit since I discovered Honkai Star Rail, which is what I love about Genshin, but turn-based (I greatly prefer turn-based games to action-based ones).[/p][p align=\"justify\"]My time in Final Fantasy XIV has been lessened of late; Im still three story patches behind, even. I dont dislike the game or the direction its gone or anything like that. I think I just wanted to do other things for a while. Im still playing it, just not as much right now.[/p][p align=\"justify\"]Ive also gotten back into Magic: the Gathering, partially thanks to the Final Fantasy expansion, but also because a group of friends and I are doing weekly Commander nights. It means I can play Magic with more than just Morgana without having to play with strangers.[/p]Ive been reading, too!
[p align=\"justify\"]In addition to the stuff Ive been reading as research for Book Two (that doesnt count as violating my break!), Ive gotten into the Locked Tomb series. I finished Gideon the Ninth, and Im 22% of the way into Harrow the Ninth.[/p][p align=\"justify\"]While the actual storyline can be pretty confusing and complicated, the writing style is what really keeps me going. Tamsyn Muir seems to have a similar sense of humour to mine, but she tells a darker story.[/p]We got a new cat.
[p align=\"justify\"]This wasnt planned or anything, but weve expanded our little family. We had swung by PetSmart in hopes of finding some hydrophobic cat litter for our current cat when we discovered they were having a special adoption event. Many people were cooing and signing up to take kittens home, but there was one sad orange boy that nobody was really paying attention to. He made eye contact with Morgana and me, and so we asked if we could spend some time with him. The lady running the event was thrilled that someone was interested, and he was just the sweetest thing, so we decided to take him home.[/p][p align=\"justify\"]Hes a seven-year-old orange tabby (with one arm being completely white), and weve named him Cecil Perpetua. The name Cecil was chosen because I wanted to have a Mythos reference in his name, as well as a Final Fantasy reference (Cecil Turner in Mythos was named after Cecil Harvey from Final Fantasy IV), while Morgana is happy that Cecil is also a reference to Welcome to Nightvale. The name Perpetua is his middle name because of the current Papa Emeritus in the lore of the band Ghost.[/p][p align=\"justify\"]He and Gulliver (the cat we already had) had a little friction at first, but now theyve gotten to the part of their relationship where they just outright ignore each other. We also discovered, a week into owning him, that Cecil is deaf. For a cat, thats really not a big deal; its just kind of amusing that hes always startled because he never knows when someone is approaching.[/p][p align=\"justify\"]While were talking about cats, you may remember that Gulliver was diabetic. We were at PetSmart in the first place because we needed special litter to try to get a urine sample and make sure his kidneys were okay. Well, his kidneys are just fine (they wanted to test, since hes so old), and it looks like his diabetes has gone into remission! Were going to do a glucose test this weekend to verify, but this may be the end of me having to inject him with insulin twice a day![/p]In Conclusion
\nThis is probably the longest update Ive ever written, holy hell. Im not sure if Im going to be doing the weekly updates again just yet, since Im still in the planning stages. I also need to learn a few things to better work on the next game (like more musical stuff, some deeper understanding of code, etc).
[p align=\"justify\"]So until next time, Mythies[/p]Keep the legends alive!

At last, the French Translation of Mythos, Book One is available! And to celebrate, we're having a sale. You can get Mythos (in two languages, no less) for 24% off for the next nine days!
My idea was to try to get the game to sell for $9.99 for 9 days because that's like... thematic. But Steam only lets me do percentage discounts, I'm bad at math, and that really only matters if you use USD for currency so... just take the discount, okay?!
In addition to adding the French translation, there's been a few (minor) changes to the game itself.
The main font has changed (the one used in menus and the main character's name). The original font didn't play well with foreign language characters, so I had to use a more "universal" font.
[/*]The main menu screen logo is now a separate element that can change when translated. Additionally, for those who use the non-animated main menu option, there's a new image for it.
[/*]Fixed a strange bug where the Lorebook wouldn't display correctly the first time the game was run.
[/*]Fixed some minor typos scattered throughout the story (Sophia will now correctly wish Nelson has a good day, instead of insisting that she herself would have a good day).
[/*]Some other various changes were made to make future translations easier, like the chat windows now being text instead of images.
[/*]There is now 25x more werewolves (25 x 0 = 0)
[/*]
I hope all you Francophones enjoy the game, and keep the legends alive!

Hello, Mythies!
The first (of hopefully many) Mythos games has been out for about a month now, and I'm so glad to see so many of you enjoying it! While it's been a great relief to have my first volume finished and published, I haven't exactly stopped working on it, either. In fact, you're going to see the fruits of my post-release labour this Saturday!
Version 1.1.0.0 won't contain any new story content, since I'm saving all that for Book Two. Therefore, if you've finished Book One, you don't even really need to worry about the rest of this announcement.
There were various bugfixes and minor typo corrections for this new version, but the bulk of it was preparing the French translation while also laying the groundwork for future translations. A lot of images had to be reworked, the main font changed, the videos dissected, and the Lorebook... re-booked? Basically, Mythos, as it was originally published, was not very friendly to translation.
My French translator was very patient and helpful. While I can't speak to how well some of the jokes translated (I don't speak French, so I'm basically taking my translator's word for it), I have the utmost faith in their work. I've already begun talks of translating into a few other languages, but I want to make sure the French translation worked out first. If that's free and clear of issues, that means plugging in future translations will be much, much easier.
This new version will drop on Saturday, July 26th!

Jessica Lee: Good morning, and welcome back. Today we go back to interviewing characters from Mythos, starting with Detective Mara MacLachlan. Welcome to the show, Mara.
Mara MacLachlan: Thank you for having me, Jessica. Happy to take a break from helping Ky through their "mortal" troubles.
JL: So you're saying the main character faces some real peril, then?
MM: (Laughing) Apparently, but... there obviously can't be the death of the main character, being as they live to tell this tale. I know it sort of lowers the stakes a bit, but being as the narrator can't tell the story when they're dead...
JL: Well, I don't know about that -- have you ever seen Casino?
MM: Oh. That's a good point.
(Author's Note: Whoops. I guess I should have warned there's a Casino spoiler in here.)
JL: So the events of the game have alerted the police on a State level?
MM: In a sense, yes. Without going into too much detail, Howard County Police were the first on the scene, but due to some specific circumstances, I have to get involved.
JL: I see. And I assume you can't detail those specifics?
MM: Not if I value my life!
JL: Then let's talk more about you! Are you a supernatural creature?
MM: (Pause) Not everyone in the story is going to be some sort of monster, you know.
JL: Er, right... sorry. So you're just a regular police detective?
MM: "Regular" doesn't really sound much better. I'm a damned good detective, that's why I was promoted so young.
JL: Well, that does sound impressive. Sort of like Sherlock Holmes?
MM: "You see, but you do not observe." I wouldn't quite put myself on his level, but I notice things that probably escape others.
JL: Oh? Can you give us an example?
MM: Are you sure you really want that...?
JL: Sure! I think we'd love to see what we're in for from you in Chapter Two.
MM: You're profoundly insecure about yourself.
JL: I'm sorry...?
MM: In Western cultures, most read in their language from left to right. As such, people tend to subconsciously sweep their vision in the same way. You always make sure you're seated so that you're on the left side of the screen, so that the viewer will always notice you.
JL: Oh. Um
MM: Additionally, you make sure your outfit always sets you apart from the set. For every interview you've conducted, the set has been redesigned to that particular character's colour B's set was blue, Rain's was green, and so on. That means the subject of your interviews always sort of blends in with the set, whereas you always stand apart. Your outfits also match the colour of the character you're interviewing next, proving that you're very conscious of these colour themes.
JL: I didn't
MM: It can't be a coincidence that you're wearing an outlandishly pink suit; you try to stand out, but you haven't worn anything quite so garish. This says to me that you're possibly interviewing Becki (With An I) on your next show, but you didn't own anything sufficiently pink and this is the best you could find on short notice, since you didn't know character interviews were going to continue after mine.
JL: (Staring)
MM: But there's more to it. There's an underlying reason for you to draw attention to yourself beyond vanity and self-doubt... no, you crave affirmation in your life as a journalist, because there's some other aspect of your life you need to keep se
JL: (Cutting in, loudly) And that's all the time we have for today! Tune in next time, where I sit down with Becki (With An I) to talk about her part in Mythos!
MM: Called it!
JL: (Trying to maintain her smile) Thank you, Baltimore! This is Jessica Lee, WETT Channel 6 News, reminding you to keep the legends alive!
Stage Manager: And we're clear!
JL: I didn't need you to dissect me on the air like that.
MM: Well, you asked...
JL: You didn't have to be so brash about it... wait, do you have family in Edinburgh?
MM: Eh... Probably, with my name being as it is, but nobody I know.

(Author's Note: Rain speaks with a "Bawlmer (Baltimore) Accent". For the uninitiated, it means she says "hon" a lot, and a "unique" pronunciation of some words - such as Tuesday being Tuesdee, iron being arn, etc - may seem like odd typos, but I assure you they are intentional. It's a sort of difficult accent to convey through typing, so I encourage you to look up videos of people speaking to get a good grasp on how Rain sounds... and what I've lived around all my life.)
Rain Sunbeam: Wow... it's so bright in here!
Jessica Lee: Yes, the lighting in here can be a little harsh if you're not used to the studios... which clearly you're not - did you come in here barefoot?
RS: (Sitting cross-legged on the couch) I try to be barefoot whenever possible, hon. It keeps me in tune wiff Gaia.
JL: Ah, right... Well, this is just going to be a standard interview
RS: Like the one wiff Tara?
JL: Oh, um... no, that one wasn't standard. More like
RS: The one wiff B?
JL: Er... Not like that, either. More like the one with Ky. Think of Ky's interview.
RS: So there won't be any innerruptions like Sophia had?
JL: No no, certainly not. Security is on high alert now. We should go undisturbed.
Stage Manager: And we're live in five... four... three...
B: (Peeks up from behind the couch. The stage manager's eyes widen.)
JL: (Not noticing) Good evening, and welcome back! We continue our series of Mythos interviews with another cast member Rain Sunbeam! Thanks for coming, Rain.
RS: Thank you, Jessica! And hello, Bawlmer!
JL: Now, you're the fifth member of the Mythos cast we've interviewed technically the sixth, if you count Ky as two people, which I'm still a bit confused about. Regardless, what can you tell us about your role in the story?
RS: (Cringing slightly, pulling her braids forward over her shoulders) Sorry, hon, felt like something was yankin' on my hair back dere.
JL: It's alright, whatever's most comfortable.
RS: That totally weird. So anyway, I've watched your other interviews every Tuesdee, hon. I come into the story wivout any connection to Ky the main character at all. I was actually Lisa's employer.
JL: For those at home who don't recall, Lisa Harrison is the victim whose murder starts off the story of Mythos.
RS: That's right. She worked part-time for me up until... well, she died.
JL: Her death was a murder, correct?
RS: Well, that's what we're trying to figure out over the course of the game. Offishly, she died of natural causes, but you know how spicious that sounds, hon? When the poh-leese can't figure it out, they just let it go like wooder under the bridge.
JL: I see. So it seems like things come together, so you join forces with the others. Like a sort of "mystery gang."
RS: Seems kinda like that, don' it? We all just know there's more about Lisa's death than anybody wants us to know.
JL: So you say you were her employer what business is it you run?
RS: Oh, it's a lil' place out by Highlandtown called Gaia's Cradle a greenhouse right on the edge of Patterson Park.
JL: I see! So you mentioned Gaia to me off-camera a little earlier; is there a significance there?
RS: (Flipping her braids back over her shoulders) Absolutely! Gaia's the spirit of the erff, who I feel a real special connection wiff.
JL: Interesting. Now, with the name of the game being Mythos, and you feeling connected to this "earth spirit," is there some deeper meaning to all that?
RS: Naw, hon! I'm just a regular gardner just tryin' to make a livin'. Ow, dangit! Somethin' back dere keeps dickin' with my hair!
JL: (Oblivious) Speaking of hair, that's an interesting style you have! Green on one side, black on the other. What made you go with that particular look.
RS: (Turning to look behind the couch) Ey! What are you doin' back dere?!
(B springs up, holding a few green and black hairs plucked from Rain's head)
B: Gottem! Now I can do a wacky Gaia ritual to make you looooove me!!!
RS: Gaia don' work that way!
JL: Security! You were supposed to keep her out of here!
B: (Running off the set with a security guard stomping after her) Fast as fast can be, you'll never catch me~!
JL: I am so sorry about that, Rain.
RS: Eh, I'm used to it, hon. I always see her 'round Gaia's Cradle takin' pixtures of me through the glass. Pretty sure she even followed me downyoshun once.
JL: And unfortunately, that's also all the time we have left for the interview. Maybe we can have you back again to talk more?
RS: We'll, uh... hafta see 'bout that, hon...
JL: Sounds good! Tune in text week for (Putting her hand to her ear) Oh... I'm sorry, I've just been informed that our interview with Monica has been cancelled.
RS: (Looks uneasy)
JL: (Listening to her earpiece for another moment) So join us next week where I'll be coming to you live from Ram's Head to cover the final round of the Battle of Baltimore Bands; Crystal Sh*t versus the Gargle Blasters! Until then, I'm Jessica Lee, WETT News, reminding you to keep the legends alive!
Jessica Lee: Just... "B"? That's not short for anything?
B: Oh, it is!
JL: Great! What's your full name, then?
B: B-yootiful.
JL: (Sigh) Right. Well, I'm glad to see you came dressed professionally, at least.
B: Well, of course! I have to look my best for the interview.
Stage Manager: And we're on in five... four... three...
B: Why don't they ever say the last two?

JL: Good even--
B: (Cutting in) Good evening, Baltimore! I'm here with our guest Jessica Lee to talk about the upcoming game, Mythos. Thanks for coming in, Jessica.
JL: (Staring dumbfounded)
B: (Unperturbed) Great! So, what can you tell me about your role in Mythos?
JL: (Attempting to recover, putting on a far-too-wide smile) Haha... ladies and gentlemen, introducing B - one of the main cast from the upcoming game Mythos!
B: "One of the main cast," she says! Girl, I am Mythos! The game wouldn't exist without me, ya know!
JL: Is that so? What makes you so central to the story?
B: Oh, there's so many reasons, Jessie! Can I call you Jessie? You let Tara do it.
JL: I did not.
B: Thanks, Jessie. So my part in Mythos? I'm the sexiest, the funniest, the smartest, the blue-est. The game's like... stupid-boring without me in it. You think people would wanna play a game with nothing but Sophia in it? She's about as interesting as wet parchment!
JL: I see, but that doesn't really explain your role in the game.
B: I'm gettin' there, zammit! (Looking right into the camera) Check out April O'Neil over here tryin' to be all "investigative." My role is to be what's needed, when it's needed, and where it's needed. Does Ky need some faces punched? I'll be a punch-o-matic! Set things on fire? Hooo-DOGGIE, will I set some s*** on fire! If Ky needs to know something, I'm there and I know it.
JL: Well, hold on a second there, B! Sophia was on last week - as you know - and she claimed that her role in the story was to be an information dispenser.
B: (Rolling her eyes) Uuuugh, Sophia. Yeah fine, I guess she does know stuff. But she'll all mysterious and obtuse about it. Nah, dawg - I just come out and say it. She's like me, but boring and without the other stuff. I'm way more shocking.
JL: So, judging by last week, it looks like you and Sophia have some sort of rocky past together?
B: Dude, okay. So like I'm cool with Sophia! I really am! But like... a long-ass time ago, when we were younger, there were some cliques. You know how it goes, right? And like... the popular one in my clique did something to piss off her clique, and so she just hates me by extension. I haven't done a damned thing to her! Salty bitch.
JL: So you'd say this conflict is one-sided?
B: I mean... kinda. Like I don't have a problem with her, but it's really fun to mess with her too, you know? Nobody gets her upset the way I do, so I gotta take advantage of that, you know?
JL: I see. Do you have any other relationships with the cast like that?
B: Nah, just Sophia, really. I actually screwed around with Monica before, but she has no idea who I am. Pretty funny, really. She's even more uptight than Sophia.
JL: (More interested) Monica? This is the first time any of you have really mentioned Monica, and her preview text is... well, there isn't any. How do you connect to her?
B: Ah... I... wouldn't say it's a connection so much, as it's a burning need to watch her get pissed off. Let's just say she takes her job way too seriously.
JL: Right; do you have a job? All the other characters seem to have some sort of employment, but it seems that you just sort of... "hang out"?
B: Er... well... I guess I'm what you could call "asset rich, cash poor"...
JL: So you're broke and jobless.
B: Basically, yeah. But I got a bunch of cool stuff! Like this necklace.
JL: ... that's my necklace! I haven't seen that since last week!
B: Pretty sure it's my necklace. And hey, who's the one running this interview, anyway?
JL: Me!!!
B: Aw, damn, you right.
JL: Make sure to give me that back after the interview.
B: (Nasally voice) Absolutelyyyyyy...
JL: Now, what is your relationship with the main ch--
B: Well, folks, that's all the time we have for tonight! Tune i--
JL: No! This is not your interview! You can't say when we're out of... (Looking off-camera) Oh. Oh, we are out of time? Right.
B: Told ya so, bitch!
JL: (Ignoring B) Tune in next week, for a hopefully more normal interview with... (Squinting at the teleprompter, then slowly looking crestfallen) ... Rain... Sunbeam...
B: Whoo-hooo! Rain! She's freakin' hot.
JL: I'm... sure she is. So be sure to tune in next week! I'm Jessica Lee with WETT, reminding you to keep the legends alive!
Stage Manger: And we're clear!
JL: Okay, give me my fucking necklace, you crazy bitch!
B: Hey! Language!!! (Already running away)
JL: God dammit... where is security, anyway!?!
B: (Shouting as she darts out the door) Probably watching for Tara!!!

Jessica Lee: No! He really said that?!
Sophia: It is true! The eulogy was actually pretty funny, at times!
Stage Manager: And were live in five four three
JL: Good evening, Baltimore! Tonight we continue our weekly interviews with the cast of the upcoming game Mythos. Our guest today is Miss Sophia erm
S: Just Sophia is fine. Thank you for having me, Jessica Lee. I hope your time with me will be found more enjoyable than when Tara Norwood was here.
JL: (Strained laughter) Oh she was a handful! But lets talk about you, Sophia! What role do you play in Mythos?
S: Well, to hear others describe it, I am to be the brainy one. In short, I am present to provide crucial knowledge to others when such a time becomes pertinent. But really, I am just a normal person that works at an electronics store.
JL: CyberDaze, right? Oh, yes, it says so on your shirt.
S: That is correct! I decided to come in my work uniform, as that is how you will be seeing me in the game during my introductory scene.
JL: I see! Now some of the other promotional art weve seen of you shows you with what appear to be glowing green eyes. Is there a story behind that?
S: (Lightly laughing) They did look as if they were glowing, did they not? No, no, my eyes do not glow. It was some issues with lighting and perhaps my contact lenses. That has been corrected, as you can see!
JL: We definitely can! Still lovely, of course just not so glowy. So what is your relationship to the main character?
S: Well, initially I am simply an acquaintance, of sorts. The main character comes to CyberDaze often, being as they are I suppose one could call them a nerd.
Tara Norwood: (Off-camera) A big ol nerd!!!
JL: Why is she still here? Could someone please
(There are sounds of security escorting Tara out of the studio)
S: Right. Being as such, the main character found themselves in my presence often they always seem to stop by when I am working for some reason.
JL: So you two never met outside of your work? No dates or anything.
S: Ah dates? Why, no. I do not think well, rather I did not assume No. No, at the point of my first appearance, we have never had the pleasure of each others company outside of the store.
JL: (Grinning at Sophias reaction) I see, I see. But it seems rather clear that youre one of the main cast members in Mythos, so surely you cant just stay at work the entire time, right?
S: Well, of course I am not permitted to speak too much on the events, but I can assure you that I will be seen wearing something other than these clothes.
JL: Naturally. So it would make sense that you are going to be assisting in the investigation of Lisa Norwoods death, right?
S: Oh, I am not so much an investigator, no. I simply provide information relevant to the mystery as I find it.
JL: Finding information sounds kinda like youre an investigator.
S: (Sternly) No. I am not to be involved in these affairs.
JL: Did your eyes just do that glowing thing again?
S: (Laughing) Oh, Jessica Lee, you are so humorous at times! I was simply stating that I have a different role in the story than you may be thinking.
JL: Ahem, yes. So do you have any relationships to the other characters? Did you know Lisa before her death?
S: I actually was never personally acquainted with Lisa Harrison, no. But I did learn much about her! I wish I had seen some of her dancing performances while she was alive. Tara Norwood was occasionally with the main character to visit CyberDaze, but other than that I do not have any particular connection to any of the other characters.
JL: Is that so? I see here that you and B-
S: No connections. At all.
JL: I swear I just saw your eyes-
S: (Laughing again) But of course I will meet others as the story progresses. No woman is an island, as they say.
JL: These interviews just get more peculiar, dont they?
S: We are just having a conversation.
JL: Right. Um, so the name of the game is Mythos, and the synopsis states that the main character finds themselves mired in the world of the supernatural. What role do you play in all of that?
S: Well, of course theres that supernatural element. Most of the information I supply is of the mundane variety, but there may be a few instances where I am called upon to provide more esoteric knowledge.
JL: Indeed. And being as this is also an adult game, are you going to be one of the potential love interests, as well?
S: (Looking down) Well that is for the individual players to decide, of course. If they believe me to be appealing in such a manner.
JL: Were running out of time for this interview is there any last words youd like to say to the audience, Sophia?
S: Yes! When you mee-

B: IM UP NEXT, BITCHES!!!
JL: Oh, what the hell
S: (Visibly furious) What is that doing here? I did not agree to appear with B!
B: Cmon, Sophia. You know you love me!
S: I most certainly do not. Do not come near me!
B: Just a lil hug, cmere!!!
JL: (Shouting over the chaos) Securi
(The screen cuts to a picture of a Maryland Blue Crab holding up a sign that states WETT is having technical difficulties!, before cutting to a commercial of a group of ladies talking about their bowel movements while eating yoghurt.)

Jessica Lee: Please don't put your feet up on there...
Tara Norwood: Why? You told me to make myself comfortable. Yer lucky I left my boots on!
JL: But that's not wh--
Stage Manager: Jessica! We're live!
JL: (Pauses, then puts a brightly smiling face) Good evening! I'm Jessica Lee, sitting down with another of the characters from Mythos - Miss Tara Norwood! Thanks for coming by, Tara.
TN: Thanks fer havin' me, Jessie!
JL: Haha, that's Jessica, please. So who are you in the story of Mythos?
TN: Well, Jessie, I'm actually the best friend of Ky - the main character. Me an' them's been friends since we was real young, 'bout 8 or 9 years old, I reckon.
JL: It's Jessica. So you've been friends with Ky basically all your lives. The catalyst that begins the story is the death of Lisa Harrison, Ky's ex-girlfriend. Were you and Lisa close?
TN: With Lisa? I mean... listen, Jessie--
JL: Jessica.
TN: (Without even pausing) -- I honestly barely knew 'er. While Ky and I were friends fer 'bout fifteen years or so, I can't say we was always best friends. Up through middle school we was like a pair o' pigs in s***, happy as can be. When we got to high school though, things kinda changed fer us. I took an interest in athletic stuff, and Ky turned into one o' them emo drama nerds. They was always doin' weird things, like rollin' all them funny-shaped dice an' playin' their online games. We didn't hate each other or nothin', we was just mostly movin' in different circles.
JL: I see, and that's when Ky and Lisa met?
TN: Yes ma'am! There was dancin' in them plays Ky was in sometimes, an' Lisa was the dance team captain. She'd help 'em with their fancy stage dancin' and I reckon them two just hit it off. Dated fer years outta high school 'fore they split.
JL: Was the breakup hard on Ky?
TN: HAH! You said "hard on!"
JL: (Forces a smile, but stays silent)
TN: But naw, Ky an' Lisa felt they was driftin' apart when Ky dropped outta college an' Lisa was livin' on campus up in Towson. It was only 'bout a 20 minute drive... well, about a 3 hour drive on Fridays... but with Lisa's schoolin' added to that, they just kinda decided to do their own thing. Or I guess Lisa probably doin' someone else.
JL: You sounded a little scornful there, Tara - is that a little jealousy?
TN: F*** no!
JL: (Forced laughter) Whoa, you're definitely Ky's friend, talking like that, but try to keep it PG - we're live.
TN: Shucks, sorry Jessie...
JL: Jessica!
TN: (Smirking and obviously enjoying herself) Naw, I'm Tara - I think we went over this.
JL: (Obviously not enjoying herself) Right. So you and Ky became close again after they broke up with Lisa?
TN: Yep! I ain't never bothered goin' to college, an' without Lisa takin' up all of Ky's time we could hang out again.
JL: So you feel like Lisa was monopolizing on Ky's time, perhaps keeping you away?
TN: (Pause) ... I reckon I don't like where yer goin' with that thinkin', Jessie.
JL: O-oh. I was only aski--
TN: (Coldly, her eyes suddenly hard) You just gon' just keep askin' me 'bout Lisa?
JL: (Swallows) Ah, no... no no... (Glancing nervously to the teleprompter) Right, so outside of your relationship with Ky, what can you tell us about yourself?
TN: (Suddenly all smiles again) Well, before I came into Ky's life an' made it a million times better, I was actually livin' on my parents' farm out west in Hampstead. My folks sent me here to Baltimore to live with my grandparents when I was a kid, an' that's how I met Ky. Nowadays I'm a cashier at the Endrox station out in Ellicott City.
JL: Ah, alright. Looks like we're coming up against a break, Tara. Is there anything else you would like to say to the players at home before we wrap up?
TN: Hmm... I reckon if I had to say one thing, it'd be this: Don't assume you know how anythin' works goin' into this. Our world ain't yours.
JL: Alright! Thanks for your time, Tara...
TN: Aw, no problem, Jessie! I'd be happy to stop by again!
JL: Oooh, haha... that... that definitely won't be necessary. (Looking to the camera) That's all for tonight. Tune in next week when we have Sophia joining us! From WETT Baltimore - I'm Jessica Lee with Nine of Swords Studios. Until next time, keep the legends alive!
Stage Manager: All clear!
JL: Ugh. Someone bring a drink to my dressing room.
The following is the first in a series of interviews of the Mythos cast, giving you an idea of the personalities and motivations of the characters in the world. Think of these as a sort of "behind the scenes" glimpse into Mythos, where the characters can talk about their role in the game.
Without further ado, I'll pass this along to Jessica Lee!

Jessica Lee: Good evening! I'm Jessica Lee, and here with me are the main characters from the upcoming game Mythos. Or... rather... I guess only one of you is the main character? How does this work?
Ky: Thanks, Jessica. So at the very start of the game, the player chooses which of us they want to play through the game as - male or female. Then they can choose my first name and my nickname - if they go with the default, no matter my gender, my nickname will be "Ky".
JL: Did you both... just speak at once...?
Ky: No, just me.
JL: (Clearly unnerved) Alright... so what can you tell our viewers at home about yourself?
Ky: Honestly, my life is pretty boring at the start of the game. I'm working as an IT rep for a local insurance company, just kinda muddling my way through life, when I find out my ex-girlfriend died.
JL: That's Lisa Harrison, right?
Ky: Yeah, Lisa. She was great, and we parted on... I guess good terms? But it's not like we really stayed friends after that. We sorta drifted apart. I found out about her death when I stumbled upon a friend's post on social media.
JL: Social media? Do you mean Tw
Ky: Just social media. Nine doesn't want the Muskrat to sue.
JL: Right, right. So you discover Lisa's passing - what next?
Ky: Well, it's a weird feeling, you know? Even though we hadn't talked in years, she was still a pretty big part of my life, y'know? Plus, Lisa was healthy. Like even without keeping in direct touch, I saw she still was a dancer in her off-time and just kept in good shape. I wanted to know how she died, but it's really uncomfortable to just like... ask someone out of the blue "hey, I know we haven't talked in a while, but... how did Lisa die?" So with all that, I decided to go to her funeral to see if maybe I could learn about what I'd missed in the last few years of her life.
JL: I see. Now it says here that this string of events has you "find yourself fumbling through the hidden society of supernatural beings that lurk in plain sight" Can you elaborate on how that comes to pass?
Ky: Haha, well obviously I can't give away too much, or I'll spoil the game. But let's say that, starting with the funeral and some chance encounters I run into right after it, I start digging into what could have caused Lisa's death, because like... nobody actually seems to know. She's just dead. Before long, I somehow find myself being an investigator, and sticking my nose into places I probably shouldn't.
JL: So you sorta play detective?
Ky: Well, yeah! The stuff that the crew and I start to uncover are things you really can't go to the cops with. Supernatural stuff.
JL: Sounds spooky! Are there going to be horror elements involved?
Ky: Believe it or not, no! It's a game about a murder with supernatural terrors all about, but it's really just a mystery-comedy. Like if you've ever seen films like "Murder by Death," "Clue," or "Knives Out," you're probably on the right track. It's like that, but with sorcerers and s***.
JL: Whoa! Hahah... language, Ky!
Ky: Oops, f***, I'm sorry! AH! S***, I did it again.
JL: Well! That's all the time we have for today, folks. Join us next time when we have an interview with Tara Norwood!
Ky: Oh, god, you'd better have a drink beforehand. That bi(Microphone cuts off)
JL: Thanks for watching! I'm Jessica Lee with Nine of Swords Studios. Until next time, keep the legends alive!

Hello, Steam Folks!
It's Nine, again.
... Well, who else would it be?
With Mythos, Book One going through the final approval for Steam (that means a release date is gonna be posted super soon!), I decided to wet y'all's whistles with some more juicy previews about what to expect in my weird world. Today we're going to meet the "main cast" of Mythos. Each of these characters can not only be beneficial to your investigation, but they are also all suspects! Who do you trust...?

"Nelson"
The Main Character
The game is told from the perspective of Kylie or Kyle Nelson (aka - Ky), depending on which gender you pick (and you can change their first name). For the purposes of the story and your romance options, there is no difference in which you choose to play as.
A bit of a nerd, Ky was a theatre kid back in high school, as well as a gamer. Lisa Harrison and Ky began dating as teenagers, and it seemed very likely the two were going to be married. Despite all that, Lisa very unexpectedly broke things off, and the two havent spoken since.
Ky hasn't dated anybody else after breaking up with Lisa Harrison two years ago.

Lisa Harrison
The Victim
After college, Lisa worked as a paralegal. She enjoyed dancing all through her childhood, and continued to pursue that as a hobby into her twenties, until her death. Being as she was dead at that point, she did not continue to dance, as that no longer fit into her lifestyle. Or would it be deathstyle?
Regardless, shes dead, now.

Tara Norwood
The Best Friend
At a very young age, Tara was sent to live with her grandmother near Baltimore, which is when she met Ky. The two became best friends and mostly stayed that way ever since. Tara didnt seem to get along with Lisa, which caused her friendship with Ky to become somewhat strained. However, after the breakup, Tara was quickly back at Kys side for support through that troubling time.
Despite not having lived in the country (her parents farm) for twenty years, Tara still has a rough-and-tumble farm girl attitude, and an accent that sounds rather out of place for the Baltimore area. Unlike Lisa, Tara is not dead.

Sophia
The Brains
More of a friendly acquaintance to Ky than an actual friend, Sophia is a ridiculously knowledgeable employee at CyberDaze. Her knowledge goes well beyond the electronics she sells, seeming to know everything about everything. She also has the strange quirk of always referring to people by their whole names (first and last), as well as never using contractions.
Sophia has always been eager to help out Ky whenever they crossed paths, so perhaps shell be useful in figuring out Lisas cause of death (because Lisa is dead).

B
The Hacker
More than just a single letter, B is the chaotic techie that seems to come and go at lightning speed. Shes quick-witted, impulsive, and usually hungry. Other than that, nobody seems to know where she came from, where she lives, or why shes so tall. She seems interested in Lisa Harrisons death, and thus has become entangled with the rest of the crew.

Rain Sunbeam
The Hippie
Rain is a stereotypical hippie - quite literally. Her name, her clothing, and her demeanor all seem to be almost a parody of what a hippie would be, except for perhaps her thick Baltimore (Balmer) accent. She owns a greenhouse in Highlandtown, which most definitely does not grow weed.
Lisa (the dead one) seems to have some personal connection to Rain, which may be key in solving the case.

Mara MacLachlan
The Cop
The death of Lisa Harrison (who is dead) wasnt ruled a homicide, so one would think the police wouldnt get involved. Detective MacLachlan unfortunately gets swept up into the mix for completely different reasons. Is she someone who will help the investigation or hinder it?

Monica Schwartz
The Spy
The Bureau is a mysterious agency that seems to be focused on dealing with the supernatural, and its likely that this is the organization that Monica Schwartz works for. Nothing is known about her, other than her apparent intolerant behavior and her arsenal of high-tech weapons that look straight out of science fiction. She is also alive (unlike Lisa).

Becki (With an I)
The Influencer
Another of the group that grew up with Ky, Rebecca Davenport seemed to be on bad terms with both Tara and Lisa (currently dead). Despite that, Becky (as she was known at the time) never seemed to show any particular hostility toward Ky.
In the time since high school, Rebecca now goes by Becki (With an I), and has become a wildly popular influencer online - so much so that she and her mother now live in an upscale gated community outside of Baltimore.

Sylvia DuBois
The Socialite
Sylvia is the chairperson of a nonprofit organization known as the Fame and Nature Group, which focuses on the preservation and restoration of historical and culturally significant sites. She is affluent and well-connected, with wealthy elites often making appearances at her fundraising events. Her connection to the super-dead Lisa remains a mystery unto itself.

Aiden Drest
The Edgelord
The excessively broody and pointlessly morose Aiden Drest is, surprisingly, always seen in the orbit of Sylvia DuBois. While the two couldnt be more opposite from each other, with Aiden being so gruff and Sylvia being so urbane, they seem to have formed an inseparable bond. While Sylvia had a strange connection to Lisa (the dead one), Aiden kept his distance from the girl.

Cecil Turner
The Dotard
The mortal world has largely forgotten about Cecil Turner, a World War 2 veteran - but hes very important amongst supernatural circles. Cecil is the head of the organization knowns as The Convocation, an alliance of magic users headquartered in Baltimore. Perhaps due to his advanced age, Cecil seems rather scatterbrained, but generally seen as a kindly old man that probably keeps butterscotch candies in his pocket.
Ostensibly, nothing mystical happens in the region that doesnt catch Cecils notice. So how does he fit in with the murder of Lisa Harrison (which resulted in her death).

Desmond Medraut
The Curmudgeon
Along with Cecil, Desmond is also part of the leadership of the Convocation. While Cecil is the friendlier face of the group, Desmond is the grumpy one; often the enforcer. Its unclear if Desmond will be of much assistance, being as he seems to dislike pretty much everybody. Did his dislike extend to Lisa - possibly to the point where he would kill her to death?

Rami
The Rock Star
The Baltimore music scene is pretty familiar with the local band currently known as Area 42. Rami is the leader and thunderous drummer of the all-girl rock band. She has no connections to Ky, isnt part of the Convocation, isnt dead like Lisa, and certainly isnt a cop or secret agent. How did she get involved in all this?

Rin
The Groupie
If Ramis connection to the case is strange, Rins is even more so. Rin is, simply put, a groupie of Ramis. She is always seen wherever Area 42 is playing, but she also has an uncanny habit of lurking about the fringes of events in the area. She has a part to play in the mystery, for sure - but what is it?
Oh, and Lisa is dead. I think I forgot to mention that.

Naturally, there's quite a few side characters you'll meet along the way. An over-eager apprentice mage, a completely inconsequential waitress, a pair of friendly dogs, and a possibly friendly cat.
I look forward to you meeting every one of these characters, and agonizing over which one of them to call out as a murderer.

Ahoy-hoy, Mythies!
My beta testers (or "Testies", as I like to call them) are combing over every last detail of the final build of Book One. This is an exciting time! That also means the full release of the game is imminent.
Of course I'm not giving a concrete release date just yet, as I want to be damned sure that the final product is completely and utterly finished before I tell you the exact day you can get it - otherwise I'm just jinxing myself and setting everyone up for disappointment.
But don't fret! You can get a sneak preview of this game right heckin' now (pardon my language) by downloading the Mythos, Book One demo!
While the final game will have five whole chapters, this demo will take you about 63.33% (repeating of course) through the first chapter. Just long enough to give you a morsel of information about the world you'll be jumping in to.
Don't forget to Wishlist if you haven't, yet! That will help me out immensely, and make it so much easier for me to make more games for you in the future.

You've seen the page. You've looked at the screenshots. You may have even taken a sip of a nearby beverage. But the burning question still remains...
What is Mythos?
The easiest starting point for understanding what Mythos is would be a simple definition: Mythos is a "modern fantasy" setting that reflects a world similar to our own. However, in the world of Mythos, the standard fantasy tropes don't necessarily reflect what you've always been led to believe.
Vampires can be out during the day, and are probably not interested in your blood. Demons may be helpful, angels may be deceptive, and mages may use shotguns instead of staves.
Werewolves? Werewolves don't exist.
Unlike most "modern fantasy" out there, Mythos is a comedy. While this whole thing starts with a murder mystery, the tone is not one of oppressive darkness or creeping horror. The "murder comedy" feeling takes cues from classic films like "Clue" or "Murder by Death". The overall setting could be described as "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Dresden Files".
Why is this "Book One"?
This game here is your primer to the larger world. By itself, it's the story of a murder being solved by someone who is only just learning about all the weird magical stuff in the world, but the solving of this murder is the catalyst to much, much larger events. Book One takes place in a world that could be our own, but the paradigm will have shifted considerably by the time it's all over.
But there's adult content?
if you want there to be!
Okay, that was a cheeky answer, let me try that again.
Mythos has sex scenes. Explicit sex scenes. However, none of them are integral to the overall story. If you want to reject every character's romantic advances, you can do so and still enjoy the world to the fullest. If you want to pursue romances, but not see the intimate naked times that come with it, there's a toggle to make it all "safe for work" (though I can't be held responsible if you get in trouble for playing Mythos at work).
Sex isn't the focus of Mythos, but it's the sticky icing on the lore cake I've baked for you.
So who are you, then?
I'm the single person behind the making of Mythos. I'm the author, graphic designer, music-maker (except for one song that I licensed), coder, and now the promoter, I guess!
Officially, I'm "Nine of Swords", but you can call me "Nine". I do all this myself, with the support of my wife Morgana and advice from a bunch of other adult indie game devs that seem to like me for some reason.
When can I play this game?
Very soon! I'm writing this little intro up so you all can see that Mythos is really a thing that's happening. My beta testers are going over the final build as we speak, and I'm going to put up a demo version in the near future so that you can see what you're getting in to.
And there will be more games?
I have plans to basically keep doing Mythos content until I die. I have many stories planned in the setting, as well as ideas for novels (which this whole thing started out as) and even a tabletop RPG. It all basically depends on the interest of the players.
Feel free to post questions, comments, ideas, or recipes in the community hub and I'll be lurking around there with answers or at least stupid responses.
Until then, keep the legends alive!
