Yomi 2 - Leaving Early Access!

[/img]

The road to becoming the best card gamer in Fairview City begins... Yomi 2 is now officially released on Steam and Epic Games Store!

The Journey

Yomi 2 is a card game many years in the making. David Sirlin, Lead Designer and CEO of Sirlin Games, has been developing and designing fighting games since 2008's Super Street Fighter II: HD Remix. In 2011, he released the original Yomi as a card game emulation of the fighting game genre, which later became a digital release on Steam and fostered a large community of the cross section between card-gamers looking for an alternative to CCGs and fighting game players looking for a new fighter to explore.

We also released Fantasy Strike in 2017, a true-blue fighting game featuring the characters from the Yomi universe that you can play right now for free on Steam, PS4/5 and Nintendo Switch 1/2.

With Yomi 2, we're going back to our board game roots and adding a lot of modern fighting game influences to the original formula. 20 characters (and a few new faces!), a new Gem system to augment your playstyle, and a robust single-player Career mode to practice all these different combinations against a variety of AI opponents with quirky personalities. There's also an online queue, asynchronous play ("Chess-by-mail" mode) and friend matches with a spectator system.

Patch Notes

-None! The July 14th Asynchronous online play mode update was secretly the launch patch ;)

A Big Thanks to our Community

We want to thank our entire community on Discord for sticking with us during Early Access development. Your help with balancing Yomi 2 has helped us get the game out the door and into your hands. We can't thank you enough for your huge support of not just Yomi 2 but everything we decide to do.

Special shoutout to all of our Patrons and testers who have supported Sirlin Games for YEARS at this point. We couldn't have done it without you! Be on the lookout for new pre-release test materials on our Patreon page (we've got something cooking right now, too!)

Developer Livestream

Come hang out with Leontes and check out the Developer Livestream here on Steam at 6:00pm EDT where he'll be going through the Career Mode and showing off the nuances of the game!

Thanks so much for being a fan. We hope to see you on the server!

July 14th Yomi 2 Patch Notes

Yomi 2 digital update! This time, weve added Asynchronous Online mode, a few optimizations under the hood, and some bug fixes as usual.

July 14th, 2025 PATCH NOTES

--------------------------------------------------

NEW CONTENT

Asynchronous online games are here! In an async game, you don't need to be online at the same time as your opponent. Instead, you can make your move whenever you're ready, then go offline and your opponent has up to 72 hours to make their move, and so on. Like play-by-mail games, async games give you the flexibility of playing multiple games in parallel, at your own pace, without needing to schedule things as tightly as for a live online game.

If you happen to both be online at the same time, of course, the moves can happen much quicker, as in a live online game! The game handles both cases seamlessly, so play as slow or as fast as you like. The server will send you notification emails to let you know when it's your turn to play, unless you disable those.

Async online games share the same ranking system as live online games, but have their own matchmaking queue. And in the same way as for live online games, you can directly send async friend match challenges, which won't count for ranking.

Improvements

Memory optimization: The game now requires less overall RAM than before, and starts up faster.

A new on-screen button in most menu screens lets you respond to online requests right away, even after the notification itself disappears from the screen. (During gameplay, it's still in the pause menu rather than on-screen.)

The sequence of events for Troq's Giant Growth is now clearer, as the opponent gains the edge visually immediately after the openers get revealed, before the combat animations occur.

Bug Fixes

Eight-Point Counter (Midori Z) now actually stays Ongoing while its honor stance effect is active, instead of getting immediately discarded.

Bare Your Soul no longer accidentally leaks information to the opponent if they look at their deck while you're moving their cards to the top or bottom of the deck.

Fixed the Combo Practice dummy accidentally winning against the player, when set to "always lose", if the player has Troq's Giant Growth active (which gives the edge to the dummy).

Fixed an annoying visual glitch where when playing with the mouse, the main phase buttons would sometimes incorrectly appear in a "mouse-overed big" scale despite not being moused over.

Fixed spectators incorrectly getting increased "time played with this character" in their profile for the watched player's character, after they choose the pause menu button "Stop Watching".

Fixed a few Alecto tweets that only make sense to trigger while at Golf Dragons, but that could still trigger while at Iron Claw Club. They're now restricted to trigger at Golf Dragons. --------------------------------------------------------------

March 24th, 2025 Patch Notes

Yomi 2 digital update dropped last night; a new replay feature to watch a players last played game, some changes to online gameflow, and bug fixes. Check them out below! March 24th, 2025 PATCH NOTES ------------------------------------------------------------------ NEW CONTENT You can now watch the replay for any player's last online match with a given character. On the leaderboards or on the profile screen, a new button lets you "Watch latest game" for that player. The leaderboards rows are character-specific and let you see the latest game played with that character, while the profile screen's "Watch latest game" just shows you the latest game overall. (This will only show games played starting today though.) Improvements In live online games, the first rematch now always alternates who's the first player relative to the first game. Forfeiting a live online game now lets you rematch, instead of quitting the entire set. Bug Fixes Prismatic Shield now correctly avoids the block damage effect from the Lum item Coin. Fixed the online score screen sometimes not correctly showing the results from the last game in a set. Fixed Patriot Mirror incorrectly letting Quince use Dodge the Question (Z-bottom dodge) while knocked down. Fixed Midori's knockdown animation not playing correctly. Fixed the Patriot Mirror video playing twice when it would hit the opponent, but its damage is negated by Keep Away. Replays no longer confusingly show timers (including their annoying sounds). Fixed the discard viewer being accidentally left open over the game over screen if you deal lethal damage with Loyal Pets's 6 damage on knockdown. The leaderboards screen UI's "Watch latest game" and "Profile" keys now work correctly and display correctly in mouse mode. Fixed the "Click to stop spectating" yellow box being unclickable in the friends screen. When you get promoted to master leagues, only the character who won the final match gets to continue that win streak. The others' win streaks are reset to 0. (Because the win streak is shared between all characters during student ranks.) Valerie's stat card no longer incorrectly shows a "final normal" mark next to her E. Career mode: Fixed "Your win record at this location" to include tournament games played there. Career mode: Fixed several tweets that never triggered. Mostly those that encourage you to move on to the next location after placing in a tournament. Career mode: Your Room no longer accidentally uses your *last* tournament placing to describe "Your best finish was #5 with Lum". It now actually describes your best placing. (Oops.) Career mode: Tweets from beating opponents for the first time now award slightly more fans overall. (This change does apply retroactively to your existing career.) -------------------------------------------------------------- As always, come hang out with us on Discord to follow along with the development of all of our games. Thanks so much for being a fan!

March 4th, 2025 Patch Notes

Yomi 2 update; this time focusing mostly on fleshing out the ranked online queue experience; theres now online rankings, leaderboards, player profiles, an XP system, and more. March 4th, 2025 PATCH NOTES ------------------------------------------------------------------ NEW CONTENT Online rankings. In Live Play Online games, rankings are divided into Student leagues (Student 1 to Student 10), Master leagues (Bronze E to Bronze A, Silver E to Silver A, Gold E to Gold A, Diamond E to Diamond A), and the Legend league. Student leagues rank up all characters together, while Master and Legend leagues use character-specific rankings. You gain stars for winning, gain extra stars for consecutive wins, and in the master leagues, lose a star for losing a match. Fill up the stars for your current rank to promote to the next division. New XP system, parallel to this ranking system, which mostly reflects your length of experience with the game - it only ever goes up. You gain +XP for every match you complete, for every match you win, for your first win of the day, and for the time spent in a match. The ranking badge and XP circles appear in the Play Online screen (next to the quick-queue toggle), the character select screen for live online games, the pre-match versus screen, the replay rows, and the friends screen. New online info screen, a two-page overlay that explains how the online rankings work. It's shown when you click on the new (i) icon in top-right of the Play Online screen. New online post-match score screen, which shows how your ranking and XP change after each online match. Matchmaking now takes ranking differences into account, trying to match players within the same league first, then expanding the search to allow players of further-away leagues. New Leaderboards screen, where you can look up your rank among the global online rankings, filtered by league, character, or your own friends. New profile screen, where you can check various stats about yourself or other players. You can access your own profile from the Reference menu screen, or other players' profiles from the friends screen, the leaderboards screen, or by looking them up directly from the profile screen. You can now set match timers in Single Player vs CPU and Pass and Play games. The new timer setting dropdowns appear in the difficulty select screen for Single Player vs CPU, and in the Pass and Play's setup screen. Improvements When playing with timers enabled, a new timer sound alerts you when you're close to running out of time. Updated the sounds for the career mode brackets screen. When you or your opponent forfeits an online game, or your opponent disconnects and you "Claim Victory", you now get a saved replay of that game. Bug Fixes Fixed Quince's Patriot Mirror accidentally being too slow: from speed 6 to speed 7. Fixed a typo on Lum's strategy card (English): "whenever you dodge and hit back" => "whenever you dodge and *don't* hit back" Fixed a French text typo for Gwen's Dreadlands Portal: "block" => "dodge" Fix: When Rook has the orange gem storm active and gets his normal attack hit by a faster attack, Rock Armor no longer incorrectly stops his combo. (The orange gem storm is the stronger effect, letting Rook continue the combo to other normal attacks). Fixed visual card mods, like green speed changes from having the edge, sometimes persisting for too long. Fixed the gameplay music not playing when you get an online match with the "[x] Mute menu music" option checked. --------------------------------------------------------------

January 8th, 2025 Patch Notes

Yomi 2 update; mostly some multiplayer game flow fixes, including a match timer option, but also some UI updates and bugfixes. Check out the full notes below. January 8th, 2025 PATCH NOTES ------------------------------------------------------------------ New Content Match timers for online games. When a match uses timers, each player has an on-screen meter of 3 bars of time. The timer depletes if it's your turn to act, and when it reaches zero, the game automatically plays a timeout move for you, which is usually "Done" or playing the leftmost hand card. "Live Online" matches (from the matchmaking queue) now use slow timers. Online friend matches default to not using timers, but you can now choose to use them anyway, setting them to Slow, Normal, or Fast speeds. Some details: You start at a full 3 bars and can never gain more than that. When you start your main phase, you gain +1 time bar. When the opponent starts their main phase, you gain +0.5 time bar. Whenever you play a meaningful move and you're still the active player afterwards, you gain a small +2s. Whenever you gain any timer, you always fill up to at least a minimum of 5s. Improvements The gem select screen now shows tooltips for the gem cards when you mouse over them, or when you zoom them. (Ex: Unsafe on block, knockdown, armored...) QoL: Persephone's Dominance "fetch 4 cards" is now aware of your hand limit, so if you can only fetch 2 cards before hitting the hand limit, the UI will now say that you can fetch 2 more cards, rather than 4 (and so on). QoL: When against River's stances, Bleeding Wounds no longer shows a popup claiming that "Bleeding Wounds: Nether Orb discards ", since Finesse stance cards cannot be discarded. (The Finesse card already correctly returned to hand, but it's less confusing to skip the entire Bleeding Wounds popup in this situation.) Flash Heal (Gloria Z) now triggers to return to hand before Invigorating Winds (white gem storm) triggers drawing 2 cards, rather than after. (They both trigger "at the end of combat", but doing it in this order avoids the bad feeling of ever having Flash Heal fail to return to hand because of the hand limit.) When Alternative Facts (Quince ability) fetches more cards than the player has space for in their hand (during Patriot Mirror), the player can now choose which cards to fetch. When Grappling Mastery (Midori ability) fetches more throw cards than the player has space for in their hand, the player can now choose which cards to fetch. Improved the computer performance of the AI. This especially improves Gwen's AI performance. Gwen AI improvements. Bug Fixes Fix: Mistress's Command can now correctly control the Tyrant Crusher on-hit effect phase. Not that this will ever happen on purpose to any human playing this game. Fixed Final Authority's discard condition when it's a foreign ability during Ability Mismatch. Fix: Research & Development no longer puts itself on top of the deck if it's no longer in discard at that point. Fix: Yagami Counter now correctly deals damage, even when it's used when Keep Away or Invisible (from Surprise Gift) is active. In Slugger's Delight and Guard Staredown, which have "If you open with and don't get hit, draw a card", you now get to draw the card before playing your combo cards, rather than only draw it at the end of combat. Fixed several cases where an effect icon that counts down over a number of turns (ex: Deathstrike Dragon or Fireworks) could temporarily get visually duplicated, especially when playing against the AI. Prohibition no longer incorrectly goes to the Ongoing zone for one turn. Its effect also no longer stays pending indefinitely when it's affecting River in Finesse or Hyper Finesse stances. (Instead the effect fizzles and does nothing.) Midori's Dragon Form transformation now happens before Invigorating Winds (white gem storm) draws 2 cards at the end of combat. (Dragon Form doesn't say to wait before transforming.) When Geiger uses Echoes of the past to draw cards from powering up, the powerup pair now gets discarded before Geiger draws cards. Gem storm particles no longer intermittently appear over the discard overlay. (It looked glitchy.) Fixed Ability Mismatch foreign ability cards showing the incorrect card art. Fixed Chains of Ice (Gwen Z)'s hit reaction and sound being accidentally delayed by 5 entire seconds. Fixed the Event Hall tournament Ability Mismatch sometimes giving you a duplicate of your existing ability when you choose Random as your character. Career fix: Don't show the "View Quests" pause button when playing at the Event Hall, which does not have any quests. Fix: In Gem Bonanza, when Orange burst replenishes the extra gem storm, it now visually replenishes right away instead of only doing so at the end of the whole animation sequence. Don't show "Knocked down: Lose the edge" when you lose your own edge by knocking down the opponent. (It's confusing because you're getting something better than the edge that way.) Fixed the known-hand-cards failing to remember when you use Phase Out to fetch another copy of Phase Out, and other similar situations where you fetch cards during combat. Visual fix: When you take an extra hit while knocked down (ex: Slots of Fun summons Coin), then instead of awkwardly standing up to play the get-hit animation, your knocked down character now flashes red to take that hit. When Gwen plays Desperation and gets her life reduced below 0 during that combat, the life counter will now properly show negative values right away, instead of briefly showing 0. Added hit effects to Rushing River's goldfish. Don't show cards in a "penalized" red highlight when they can only be played as pumpers. (Ex: Bursts are red-highlighted after a dodge because they can't trigger their effect, but they are no longer red-highlighted when you can discard them to pump another card.) The first Shadow Plague log icon now correctly appears after the first turn's turn start log icon, instead of before. When Phase Out hits Argagarg and causes his Poison to get discarded, the "Phase Out hits back for 8 damage" message now appears first, and the "Poison ends after getting hit" message appears second, rather than the opposite. The replay controls for "slower" and "faster" buttons now look like the actual double-triangle fast-forward symbol, instead of a >> double chevron. Improved the visuals of one of the Chinese fonts. Several localization fixes for text in the replays screen, and for "Fans" on career mode screens. Fixed German typo for Bag of Tricks ("abund" => "ab und"). --------------------------------------------------------------

November 1st, 2024 Patch Notes

Another big update for Yomi 2; weve added the final four venues to the Career Mode, so you can finish your journey of becoming the greatest Yomi player in the city! November 1st, 2024 PATCH NOTES ------------------------------------------------------------------ New Content
The last four career locations are now available, along with their related quests, tournaments, and wacky rulesets in the Event Hall: Iron Claw Club, along with the Event Hall rulesets Knockdown Brutality, Yagami's Exhibition, and Dark Tryst Drummond Towers, along with the Event Hall ruleset Money Match Yomi World East, along with the Event Hall ruleset Yomi Counter Challenge Yomi World West, along with the Event Hall ruleset Gem Bonanza Added sounds for Menelker and Dragon Midori's moves. Balance Changes Gloria's Flash Heal (Z) damage 9 -> 6. Improvements New "Versus screen", shown right before matches (for a few seconds) in single match vs CPU, in career mode, and in live online games. It also appears when we restore a career game that's in the middle of a match, to remind you of what you were doing. (You can press a button to dismiss it faster if you want.) During the second step of power up, the pair that's on the table is no longer considered to be known-hand-cards, for purposes of the known-hand-cards display. (For instance, while the opponent is powering up a pair of throws, you could still see those throws in the opponent's known-hand-cards, even though they were no longer in the opponent's hand, which could be confusing.) In the career tournament bracket screen, you can now hold any button to speed up the bracket animations. In the career tournament bracket screen, you can now pan around the larger brackets with the gamepad's right stick or by dragging the brackets around with the mouse. Career: You can now "like" and "repost" the feed messages by clicking on the relevant icons or by pressing the Accept or Done buttons on gamepad. This lights up the related icon and adds one to the count. (It doesn't have any other "real" effect, it's just for fun.) Career: When an incoming message makes you gain new fans, there is now a new animation where particles fly from that message to the fans counter, showing your number of fans grow "in real time" instead of instantly and silently. Clarified the Neutral Grounds quest "Perform 5 super moves" to "Perform 5 super moves (and see their animation)". Improved CPU performance of gameplay and AI code by about 44%. This should especially improve performance when playing against the AI, which can sometimes take a moment to choose its move. Merely mousing over the main phase's [Gem Storm] button will no longer hide your hand cards and show the gem storm card instead. Actually clicking the button will do that. (This doesn't change gamepad/keyboard mode play, where focusing the [Gem Storm] button will still show the gem storm card. Only mouse mode is affected by this change.) The game now remembers your last character and gem selections for Single Match vs CPU, Combo Practice, and Pass and Play modes, instead of always defaulting to Red Grave and Blue Jaina. It also remembers your last chosen difficulty for Single Match vs CPU. The gem select screen now has a button help to let you know you can zoom the gem cards. Friend requests and challenges now stay on screen longer before disappearing (3s => 6s). Gem storm cards now say "Red * Storm" instead of "Red * Gem" at the top. Bug Fixes Fixed River's Riposting Flourish (Hyper Finesse 5-dodge) incorrectly knocking down Quince's Dodge the Question (bottom side of Z, during Two Truths or Patriot Mirror). Fix: Coin will now correctly trigger its damage when it's spawned by a special block that hit the opponent during the Wild Night ruleset. Midori's Dragon Form super now always plays its super animation, even if it doesn't hit the opponent. It also always counts for the career mode quest "Perform 5 super moves (and see their animation)". The Prismatic Shield card now explicitly mentions: "(Rushdown characters can punish blocked unsafe moves with a full combo.)" Fixed crash when you select "Random gem" at the start of the fifth tutorial section. Fixed notifications from sending a friend match challenge not appearing at the correct time. Fix: You can now correctly mouse-click on friend alerts while you're in the Friends screen. Fixed especially long card tooltips (ex: Zane Y in Russian) overflowing the bottom of the screen. Fixed Russian player names not appearing correctly in-game. AI improvements. --------------------------------------------------------------
We also want to shoutout our Gamefound campaign for the physical version of Yomi 2. Its a high quality tabletop production of the same card game youve been playing on Steam and EGS! September 20th, 2024 Patch Notes

Huge update for Yomi 2; FOUR new characters, two new languages, balance changes and bug fixes. Check it out below: September 20th, 2024 PATCH NOTES ------------------------------------------------------------------ NEW CONTENT

Zane, the Blood Guard Anarchist is now available to play. Gloria, the Hopeful Healer is now available to play. Gwen, the Doomed Wanderer is now available to play. Quince, the Flagstone Chief Magistrate is now available to play. This means all 20 characters are now available to play! (Plus 2 more in the Renegades Expansion.) The game is now playable in German and Spanish. (The Spanish "tweets" for career mode are still incomplete though, but we're working on it.) Balance Changes Setsuki: Bag of Tricks (Ability) has an additional effect: "If you then have 4 or fewer cards, draw 4 cards." Green gem: Crashing Rhino (Gem special move): "Armored." -> "Armored if you're not knocked down." Breath of the Wild (Gem storm): Old: When you play a super, it costs no meter and instead GIVES you 1 meter. New: Your supers are free. Gain 1 meter each turn that you DON'T play a super. Black gem: Shadow Tentacles (gem storm) no longer triggers on block damage. Troq: Giant Growth (ability) changed: OLD: If your high and low blocks are in your discard pile, then this gets: Ongoing: Your moves do +3 damage each. Discard this from play: When you take 10 or more damage in a turn. NEW: Ongoing: Your moves do +3 damage / +3 block damage. Whenever you open with an attack, the opponent gets the edge. Discard this from play: When you take 10 or more damage in a turn. Onimaru: The E attack no longer gives the edge. During the green gem storm, the Martial Law super now only gets the level 2 or 3 effect if Onimaru actually had level 2 or 3, respectively (even though the super is free during green storm). Bal-Bas-Beta: Junkshot (X) is now Can't Combo, rather than Starter. It no longer returns to BBB's hand if Keep Away prevented damage that turn. Persephone: On Your Knees (Super 2) is now unsafe on block. Improvements New sound and visual effect for healing life. New sound for triggering Persephone's Dominance (innate). Bug Fixes During the green gem storm, Martial Law (Onimaru Super1) no longer incorrectly drains all meter when played after a dodge or as an unsafe-on-block punish. Healing Potion is no longer legal to play when you have no blocks in hand. (Doing this would just discard Healing Potion for no benefit.) Lum's Bamboo now correctly gets discarded when either player is hit by something else than direct moves, like Bubble Shield or Firestorm. Acrobatics (Vendetta Y dodge) can no longer incorrectly be played when dodges are disabled by Rainbow Disc (Valerie Super 2). Intimidating Roar (Dragon Midori Ability) can no longer force a River stance card to the top of her deck. It also no longer voids River's known-hand-cards if used while she's in a stance. (Because stance cards are immune to getting discarded.) The known-hand-cards now correctly track the situation when Midori is the victim of Intimidating Roar (which temporarily wipes his known-hand-cards until he draws a card), then transforms to Dragon Form before drawing a card. Fixed main phase buttons overlapping when your character has a fifth main phase button (like Bal-Bas-Beta) in some languages. Fixed a possible AI hang during the AI's Mistress's Command. Fixed crash when Blue Gwen applies both Prohibition and a throw or Chains of Ice effect at the same time to skip the opponent's main phase. Fixed a bad layout for the big known-hand-cards when none of the hand cards are known (i.e. when they're all shown face down). Possible fix for the "ghost character" character select glitch, where the animated character in center screen displays with glitchy textures from the background image. Fix for friend match going into a bad flow (incorrectly showing the ruleset select screen) when you go into rematch character select, then press Back. If you played the game before we added the "Known Hand Cards" remappable button, we now map that button to its defaults (R3 on gamepad, Q on keyboard) rather than leave it unassigned. Fixed button configs not being saved correctly when using Steam Input. The game no longer shows a "Random" button help (that does nothing when clicked) in the gem reference screen. On MacOS, opening the Steam overlay (Shift-Tab) should now actually work. When either Master Volume or Effects Volume are set to 0, super videos now don't play any sound at all, instead of incorrectly playing some very quiet sound. Text fixes: Updated several character stat cards that were out of date. Added some text explaining the definition of a "hit" to the third page of Quick Rules. River's stances now mentions that while in a stance, you can't interact with your regular hand cards. Fixed the career location screen's infopane about the tournament not correctly showing the location name. Fixed "~~Final Authority~~" briefly showing up when someone plays Final Authority. The gem select screen now correctly shows the blue burst's three lines of text The friends screen no longer occasionally drops some mouse input when displayed over the gameplay pause menu. The friends screen tabs now correctly get auto-placed and auto-sized according to the size of their localized text Gwen throws now show their ability text in a bottom secondary gray stripe, rather than in a generic white ability box. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Were always working on new features for Yomi 2, so hang out with us on Discord and stay up to date on further developments! Thanks for being a fan of our games.

July 26th, 2024 Patch Notes

Another update for Yomi 2; weve added two new characters to the base roster (free for everyone who owns the game!) and a new location for the campaign mode! Read more below: July 26th, 2024 PATCH NOTES ------------------------------------------------------------------ NEW CONTENT

Vendetta, the Undead Assassin, is now available to play. Vendetta often does pokes of single hits or small combos, hiding behind the safety of his speed, Acrobatics, and Frost Web, while biding his time to land a super to close out the game. Persephone, the Nox Oracle, is now available to play. Her ability to control the opponent can be brutal when she gets fully set up. She gets a big bonus from knocking down opponents and keeping them down. New career location: Matrix Future Cube. (There are now four different venues to conquer in Career Mode.) In this futuristic mega casino, you'll find yourself in the middle of a turf war amongst various colorful AI characters. Try to finish the quests, unlock the venue's tournament, and win it in order to unlock the Hyperspace Portal tournament at the city's Event Hall. New Event Hall tournament ruleset: Hyperspace Portal: All starters and enders are linkers. Balance Changes Research and Development (Geiger ability) now allows you to Exchange cards one more time, on top of its existing ability. Changed Growth Surge (Green gem special): OLD: This turn, your openers deal +8 damage on hit and your opponent's openers deal -8 damage on hit to a minimum of 1. NEW: Fetch a super from your discard pile. This turn, your first hit deals +8 damage. Changed Breath of the Wild (Green gem storm): OLD: Your supers don't cost meter to use. NEW: When you play a super, it costs no meter and instead GIVES you 1 meter. Changed Inner Focus (white gem ability): OLD: Choose one: Fetch a super card from your discard pile. Draw 2 cards. NEW: Draw 2 cards, then discard a card. Changed Prismatic Shield (Diamond gem special): OLD: When you block an attack, gain the edge. NEW: When you block an attack, prevent block damage, gain the edge, ignore lockdown, and draw a card. Changed Healing Potion (orange gem ability): OLD: Discard a block (and this card) to heal 7 life. NEW: Discard a block (and this card) to heal 9 life. Changed War Stomp (orange gem special): OLD: 4 damage NEW: 5 damage (Note: Green, blue, and black gems recently saw buffs which put them more in line with pick-rates of other gems, except the green gem still struggled to find a place on most characters. These changes are partly to increase the green gem's power level so it's closer to the rest, but also to adjust its role to be more clearly about gaining supers than the white gem. Meanwhile, the diamond gem's special block has been buffed to put its power level closer to that of the special moves of other gems, and the orange gem's Healing Potion ability is slightly buffed because it was hard to actually use the card at all given its high cost of requiring discarding a block.) Improvements Added new card tooltips explaining the keywords Disabled and Item. The orange gem storm card now shows a tooltip for "Armored". Rainbow Disc (Valerie Super 2) now shows a tooltip for "Armored". Added a VSync option to the options screen. Especially useful for portable devices like the Steam Deck, as a way to reduce battery drain from an overly-high framerate while the game is running. When launching the game for the first time: The game now defaults to your computer's language, if we support it (for French, Russian, Chinese). It now has a language dropdown, so you can change language without going to the main menu. It also has some protection against accidentally button-mashing your way through it. Quality of life: When the round is effectively already over because one player has reached 0 life, the game: Doesn't ask for a card to fetch for Purple Burst, Phase Out, and similar cards Doesn't bother showing info badges for Lockdown or Unsafe on block Doesn't ask to choose which Tyrant Crusher effect to use Changed Keep Away (Bal-Bas-Beta ability) text for clarity: OLD: Long range. Prevent all combat damage you'd take (including block damage). The opponent can't combo or pump. NEW: Long range. If you would get hit or take block damage, prevent that damage and the opponent can't play more cards this combat. (Note: the wording consistently handles all cases the same way, so you don't have to worry exactly which type and timing of thing prevented block damage to know what is or isn't legal to play next. Regardless of whether the damage prevention triggered on an opener, or block damage from an unsafe move, or BBB triggering the red gem storm's damage just before openers are resolved, etc, etc, in all cases various kinds of followups from playing extra cards are disallowed, rather than some accidentally allowed and some disallowed.) Bug Fixes The purple button to cancel your online matchmaking queue status is now correctly mouse-clickable in the character / gem select screen. Fix for the purple matchmaking box and the yellow spectating box: When you move the mouse while holding down the E key (by default), the little timer circle that shows how long you still need to hold it no longer disappears. When the game log shows a combat-reveal with a "hit" that was reduced to 0 dmg, because it was prevented by Keep Away, then it now says "DAMAGE PREVENTED" instead of "HIT" and "GOT HIT". Fixed a confusing lifebar animation during the combo playback when you take damage from abilities during combat (ex: Firestorm) as well as from combo cards. Fixed the Bare Your Soul UI showing the wrong player's gem icon when showing gem ability cards. Fixed that same UI (target card icons) overflowing the "(Gem) Ability" text from the icon in non-English languages. Fixed bad text "[cardname:-]" being shown in infobadges and logs when using items in the Wild Night ruleset. When Gimme a Jackpot (Lum ability) deals damage, the hit sounds will now be the same as for the Coin item, instead of incorrectly being those for the last combat card that Lum used. Fixed a UI crash when a game ends in a time-over draw game (when both players have equal life). Fixed Inner Focus (white gem ability) crash when it triggers a time out while drawing the final card of the deck. At the end of the turn, the game now always visually updates any card mods for cards in hand, instead of first waiting for the opponent's play sequence to end. Ex: Attacks and throws showing as speed 10 for knockdown, or speed +3 for the edge. When you kill with a dodge into super, or an unsafe-on-block punish super, that super's video is no longer accidentally skipped. Geiger's Research & Development's effect icon tooltip no longer shows a broken text tag. The purple gem's Phase Out can once more correctly fetch a card when it dodges an attack and deals 0 damage (because of the opponent's Keep Away or Invisible). Localization fixes, for things that previously always showed English text instead of the correct localized text: Career tournament brackets' player handles The Quick Rules p3 diagram (A > T, T > B/D, B/D > A) The career map markers The "Discard this from play" text from the cards Argagarg F and Bal-Bas-Beta F Several tutorial images Several popup messages from friend interactions Several default player names: "Player 1" and "Player 2" in Pass and Play The combo practice dummy's "Practice Dummy" name The generic "Yomibot" and "Yomibot (Hard)" names The default Career mode name "YomiChamp" ------------------------------------------------------------------ Were always working on new features for Yomi 2, so hang out with us on Discord and stay up to date on further developments! Persephone and Vendetta emerge from the shadows!

Mistress Persephone, Nox Oracle and Vendetta, Undead Assassin are the next two characters to join the cast of Yomi 2! Theyre both enigmatic fighters with questionable motives and shrouded pasts. Learn more about them in todays blog post below:
Mistress Persephone is an enigmatic character who seemingly has her hand in many of the affairs of the realm. She granted DeGrey his seeming immortality and retrieved the Stormborne Family Sword from Onimaru to return it to its rightful owners. She twists, manipulates and respects the inner strength of friend and foe alike. Persephone controls her opponents by restricting their actions and getting a huge bonus for knocking her opponents down. Her innate ability, Dominance, lets her recur cards from the discard pile when she scores a knockdown, and lets her get four cards when her Y Loyal Pets effect (a projectile summon) triggers on the same turn. She can even recur her supers with this to keep the oppression going. Most uniquely, her super Mistresss Command is kind of slow and only deals 1 damage, but it allows her to control her opponents combat card selection on the following turn. This allows her not only to fully see the opponents hand, but also force them to use their Super moves, Block the wrong direction or break apart Pairs to prevent them from powering up. She has generally low damage on a lot of her options, so this is just one of the ways that she can slowly grind you out over the course of a match.
Can you resist the Nox Oracles temptations long enough to secure a victory?
Vendetta is one of the more mysterious characters in the Fantasy Strike universe; on the surface, hes an undead mercenary working with Zane (well meet him later!) and the Blood Guard, but he secretly serves a dark master from the Dreadlands. Gameplay-wise, hes the premier poking character in the Yomi series. He has fast and varied normal attacks that can string to short combos, but they also draw him extra cards when he plays them and doesnt get hit (when he outspeeds enemy Attacks, gets Blocked, or stabs into a Throw). Vendetta uses that card advantage to draw into his powerful special moves and gain fodder for powerups. He can also use his X Attack, Tumbling Strike, as a combo ender or Dodge follow-up to do 20 damage while discarding some of those excess cards. His Y Dodge, Acrobatics, is perhaps his most iconic move; it avoids Attacks and Throws, and can even be used while knocked down!
Youll need to work hard to pin down this cold and calculating killer.
One last thing! Weve added the fourth location to the single player Career Mode, Matrix Future Cube. If you can fight through the ranks and win the tournament there, youll unlock another new wacky ruleset, Hyperspace Portal:
Theres lots more to come for our single player career mode; keep fighting to see if you can become the most powerful Yomi player in the city! Thats all for now. June 12th, 2024 Patch Notes

New Yomi 2 update; weve added one new character and language support for multiple languages! Read more about it below: June 12th, 2024 PATCH NOTES ------------------------------------------------------------------ NEW CHARACTER
Bal-Bas-Beta, also known as BBB, is now available to play. He's a robot who uses keep-away tactics and is extremely strong when at long-range, but he does have one super move that he can use when close. MORE LANGUAGES In addition to English, the game now fully supports Chinese, French, and Russian Bug Fixes Master volume slider now mutes music/sounds at zero volume. The backspace and arrow keyboard key icons are no longer displayed too low in the button help. Fixed bad combat-reveal animation (missing reveal of the opponent's card, missing all on-openers-revealed UI animations) when an on-openers-revealed effect causes the combat to end prematurely. (Surprise Gift, Keep Away.) Fixed a bad Career mode tweet trigger for winning or losing against bacon&eggs at specific locations, which could trigger the wrong win/loss tweet. Grappling Mastery (Midori Ability) is no longer legal to play when Midori has no throw cards in discard. (Because then it would do nothing.) Fixed crash when choosing random select in online friend matches. Fixed Lum's Gimme a Jackpot ability so that it actually reveals the hand cards shown in the game log to the opponent. When Bigby's Jail super kills the opponent as an opener, the game no longer plays the Jail super movie twice. When a super dodge or super block kills the opponent, the game no longer shows its movie twice. Fix to known-hand-cards: When you exchange to fetch a second known copy of a given card, your known-hand-cards will now show two of that card, not just one. When Lum's item card Coin comes from a move whose hit was prevented (it dealt no damage because of Invisible, for instance), then that Coin will no longer incorrectly deal 6 damage. When Onimaru has the green gem storm active, his Martial Law super is now always considered to be level 3, and using it no longer drains his meter. Fixed some gamelog events such as "Hand Limit: Can't return Low Block" occasionally losing their text. River's stat/strategy card now correctly says that Bladestorm goes to Finesse stance, not to Hyper Finesse stance. UI Improvements The AI is better able to value dealing lethal block damage, and lethal damage mixups in general. AI River expects attacks much more often while in Finesse Stance, and thus no longer mashes Counter Lunge (Finesse 4) quite as often ------------------------------------------------------------------ Were always working on new features for Yomi 2, so hang out with us on Discord and stay up to date on further developments! Bal-Bas-Beta is firing on all cylinders!

We have some exciting news to share today; firstly, Bal-Bas-Beta, the Clockwork Guardian, joins the cast of Yomi 2, and were also adding support for French, Chinese and Russian languages (with Japanese, Spanish and German coming later). Full patch notes can be found here. Bal-Bas-Beta, the Clockwork Guardian
Bal-Bas-Beta is a clockwork automaton created by Max Geiger. It is rumored that Geiger found a way to communicate with an ancient race who possessed technology beyond our own, and that perhaps some of BBBs design is from another time period entirely. General Onimaru contracted Geiger to mass produce clockwork soldiers to bolster his ranks, but those automatons dont possess the same degree of sentience and personality that BBB does. BBB hopes to someday reunite with Geiger and learn the true nature of his creation and his purpose.
BBBs archetype is the classic, runaway zoner. He has several ways of pushing his opponent to long range, and while hes at long range he can recur his powerful special attacks to control the pace of the fight. His Keep Away ability recurs easily and prevents him from taking damage at long range while hes spamming special moves, including a special throw that works from long range, breaking the usual rule of no throws. He doesnt do much damage outside of his Super I (which cant be used at long range), he has a limited ability to Dodge and his Throws are slow. If you can find your way through his steady barrage of projectiles, rocket punches and extensor grabs, you might stand a chance of taking down this plucky automaton! Language Support
Were working hard on adding more language support to Yomi 2; today were finished with French, Chinese and Russian languages and Japanese, Spanish and German are on the way. We hope that expanding the pool of available languages helps grow our community and give more international folks the chance to enjoy our game! --- Thats all for now. Thanks so much for being a fan of our games. We hope to see you online or chatting with us about Yomi 2 in our Discord channel. See you next time!

Onimaru and Bigby enter the fray!

Let slip the dogs of war; General Onimaru and Judge Bigby Hayes are the next two characters to join the cast of Yomi 2! Theyre two of the high ranking officials who enforce the strict laws of the tyrannical Sirus Quinces Flagstone Dominion. You can find the full patch notes here.
Onimaru is an armored juggernaut who wields a giant, two-handed sword. He pummels his opponents with high damage normal attacks that cant combo into anything else, but they give him the edge so he can keep swinging for the fences. While he has the edge, those same normal attacks also become faster and unblockable! These powerful, dominant moves help him control the tempo of a fight; he needs fewer cards in hand to take down his opponents, and he even has an unblockable level 3 super. His other super, Clockwork Soldiers, summons an army of robotic minions that help restrict his opponents options even further.
Outplan and outmaneuver your opponents, then deal them a deadly, crushing blow!
The honorable Judge Bigby is a grappler character with an emphasis on controlling his opponents, either with his powerful throw game or his innate ability, Injunction. Putting cards from your opponents discard pile on the bottom of their deck prevent them from exchanging for them later; this can even take their Low or High Block away for most of the game if theyre not careful. Bigbys first super, Jail, essentially takes away your opponents turn until theyre able to discard a pair to get it back; that means they usually need to keep a pair in hand just to handle the threat of getting hit by Jail at all. Oppressive! His mechanical arm can even throw opponents when throws are disabled, which can happen a variety of ways.
Use the law and an iron fist to protect the integrity of the court!
One last thing! Weve added the third location to the single player Career Mode, Neutral Grounds. If you can fight through the ranks and win the tournament there, youll unlock another new wacky ruleset, Wild Night:
Theres lots more to come for our single player career mode; keep fighting to see if you can become the most powerful Yomi player in the city! Thats all for now. January 6th, 2024 Patch Notes

Happy New Year, happy new patch! Today we have some updates for Yomi 2, including a new visual game log, speed improvements across all animations (including a Fast animations option you can check in the menus), some balance changes, and more. Check out the full patch notes below. January 6th, 2024 PATCH NOTES ------------------------------------------------------------------ New Feature There's now a visual game log which is very helpful in looking up what exactly just happened at any moment. You can access the log by pressing the Triangle button if you're using a PlayStation controller or mouse clicking on the small log button at the top if you're using a mouse. The visual log then opens and you can scroll through all the events of each turn and see all the interactions and effects that happened. This is a very complete implementation that's packed with info and visuals to help you understand what's happening. Game Speed Changes --Many animations that happen throughout at turn have been sped up. For example, your own card exchange animation (as opposed to the opponent's), playing your own ability card (as opposed to the opponent playing one), the display of all "info badges" (the blue box with white text saying what just happened), the resolution of block vs block during combat, and more. --There is a new feature in the game options called "fast animations". If you check that, the entire game will play significantly faster overall. --During a super move, you can now hold the X button (on a PlayStation controller) to speed up the movie. On keyboard, whichever key you have bound to "accept" will do it (default is the Enter key) and on a mouse, you can right click to do it. Balance Changes --Lum Slots of Fun super, number of items it gives is reduced 4 -> 3. --DeGrey Final Arbiter super, combo point cost increased 2 -> 3. --DeGrey Tyrant Crusher (Y-special) revised effect. Now it beats ALL strikes of speed 8 or greater, rather than only "normal and special strikes of speed 8 or greater." It is now a "can't combo" move rather than a starter, but it gets another boost: when it beats a strike, you can choose to either return the Y card to your hand OR choose to have it deal double damage (including double damage from his innate ability). --Menelker: Dragon's Breath super damage reduced from 11+11 -> 11+7. UI Improvements --When Argagarg has two Poisons active at the same time, the game now gives just a single notification about 6 damage rather than two separate ones for 3 damage in order to speed things up. --In the main phase, when you focus one of the four main buttons (Exchange, Ability, Power Up, and Gem Storm) and it's grayed out, some red text appears that explains why it's grayed out. (This is the same red text that already appeared after you clicked on that button, but now it's visible directly on the main phase, saving you two clicks to figure out what's going on.) Bug Fixes --Fixed a minor visual bug where sometimes an effect that created a status icon (the icons on the far left or right of the screen) would show the card creating that effect travel to a spot below that icon, rather than to the appropriate icon. --Fixed an AI bug that caused the AI to sometimes choose moves 100% guaranteed to lose the game. AI now avoids these moves on all difficulties, if at all possible. --Fixed a bad game state that occur when Midori plays Prohibition (blue gem ability), then transforms to Dragon Form while Prohibition is still ongoing. --When Lum is knocked down, the "ZZZ" text above his head is no longer wrongly reversed on the player 2 side of the screen. --Removed a stray vertical bar of blue pixels on the left side of the single player menu background. --In Career Mode, the profile text boxes no longer show overlapping text for players who have 3 lines of profile text. --Fixed a case where the opponent's powered-up super card would be shown with the wrong card modifications. For example, the opponent knocks you down, then a combat passes where knockdown ends, then the opponent powers up and the super card returned to their hand would wrongly show speed changes as if knockdown where still in effect. --Fixed an issue where the "known cards" feature would be incorrect after cards were put on top of a deck from Midori's Intimidating Roar, Geiger's Research & Development, and purple gem's Future Sight. --Fixed issue where setting exclusive fullscreen (as opposed to borderless windowed fullscreen) on a secondary display would only show resolutions whose size fits within the primary display. --Fixed a slight visual error when scrolling through cards in the known-cards area. These cards slightly overlap each other on purpose, but which cards were in front or behind would suddenly change as you scrolled. --Tooltips (such as the definition of Recurring, Armored, etc.) now appear anytime you zoom a card to be fullscreen. Also, they appear when you scroll through cards in the known cards area. --Tooltips now also explain knockdown and the edge. --Fixed a slight visual issue where sometimes, combo cards and their associated combo point dots would appear on the wooden table slightly too soon. This would briefly show black combo point dots against a dark wooden table, but now they appear correctly, only after the table switches to the light colored wood version. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Were always working on new features for Yomi 2, so hang out with us on Discord and stay up to date on further developments! We hope you had a fantastic holiday season and hope to bring you more Yomi 2 news throughout the year.

Yomi 2 is a fighting game in card form. Learn your character, practice combos, and read the opponent's tendencies. Yomi captures the feel of fighting games such as Street Fighter and Fantasy Strike and was created by a lead designer of both.

Cards represent your moves: attacks, blocks, throws, dodges, and abilities. For example, throws beat blocks:

Manage your hand to keep your options open while also trying to build up the right cards to pull off a big combo:

Fighting System

 • Exchange! You can exchange a card in your hand with one in your discard pile each turn as long as both have the exchange symbol. Will you use this to build stronger combos or to cover your weaknesses?
 • Gems. Pick a gem to augment your character. Each gem gives you different special moves and abilities as well as a once-per-game "gem storm" that can turn the tides to your favor.
 • High and low attacks. Just like in a fighting game, some attacks must be blocked high while others must be blocked low. These “mixups” are especially effective if your opponent is knocked down.
 • Projectiles. “Zoner” characters can build up their hand size while throwing relatively low risk fireball-type moves.
 • Super moves. Build up super meter that you can spend on powerful super moves. To get super meter, you can discard pairs or you can land "chain combos" of consecutive attacks.

Features

 • 20 characters.
 • 6 gems to augment characters.
 • Single player career mode where you visit numerous card-playing venues, fight regulars, compete in tournaments, and try to become the best Yomi player in the city. (And the most popular on fake social media!)
 • Single player vs AI with four difficulty levels.
 • Online synchronous play as well as asynchronous play.
 • Pass-and-play mode for local play against a friend.
 • Tutorial to get you started.

MINIMAL SETUP
 • OS: Ubuntu 18.04+
 • Processor: x64 architecture with SSE2 instruction set supportMemory: 4 GB RAM
 • Memory: 4 GB RAM
 • Graphics: OpenGL 3.2+ capable
